All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all commnn / rations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE. NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly staled. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted ut a cost of lb*, per portrait, and of ~ s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Erery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against h im, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lets rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on • payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. THE EDITOR. New Scotland Yard. SPECIAL NOTICE. LICENCE HOLDERS AND SUPERVISEES. In most cases in which Licence- holders and Supervisees residing in the Provinces fail to report themselves and whose arrest is con- sequently desired, the Editor is requested to iasert the particulars in the GAZETTE. Arrests on such informations are made subsequently, but the particulars are not always forwarded for the purpose of the original information being can- celled as required by Rule 9 of the Regulations ; the Editor therefore desires to call special atten- tion to this matter with a view to the Rule mentioned being invariably acted upon. Warrant issued. 3.— X Division.— For stealing, 18th inst,, £ 4, entrusted to him to get change— ALFRED HAYDEN, age 28, height 5 ft., complexion fair, hair light, eyes ( one grey, other blue) ; dress, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, light tweed cap, tan colour boots. CITY OF LONDON. 4.— For obtaining surgical instruments by a worthless cheque — ALBERT EDWARD TAYLOR, alias THOMPSON, age 30 to 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, hair dark brown, well dressed. He represents himself to be a doctor. May be accompanied by a woman, age 26 to 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair brown ; dress, grey costume, straw sailor hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. BUCKING HA MS HIRE. 5. — Slough ( County). — Escaped from custody, 16th inst., while under remand, charged with larceny — WILLIAM SKELTON, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, eyes brown, sore on left side of chin ; dress, brown mixture vest, old cord trousers, brown cap, lace boots with toe- caps, may be wearing a blue and red silk neckerchief. A labourer. It is supposed he will endeavour to enlist, Information to Deputy Chief Constable Sutton, Slough. CHESHIRE. 6.— Macclesfield ( County).— For steal- ing, 15th inst., at Bollington, a " Victoria" half plate photographic camera and lens, with turn table bottom, " James Woolley, Sons & Co., Victoria Bridge, Manchester," engraved on plate under handle; a studio camera, half wet plate slide, " No. 1916" stamped thereon— A MAN, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, com- plexion fresh ; dress, dark grey tweed suit, dark tie, straw hat with black band. Had with him a bicycle and a satchel containing camera plates, & c. He called at a chemist's shop and asked to be allowed to use the dark room for the purpose of changing some plates. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Downes, County Police Office, Macclesfield. CUMBERLAND. 7.— Carlisle ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 19th inst., a lady's gold keyless Geneva watch, No. 118690, long gold guard attached; 1 lady's gold ring with heart and coral stone ; and £ 1— Expiree FRED RADCLIFFE, alias RAT- CLIFFE, FOX and WILSON, Office No. 948- 01, age 40, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, moustache dark brown, waxed at ends, scar left of forehead, left elbow and left forearm, mole right of neck, left upper arm and left of back, artificial teeth, lisps slightly; dress, black jacket suit, white tie with bright stone pin, lace boots, black hard felt hat. Had in his posses- sion a black overcoat with velvet collar, and a light dust overcoat, also 3 brown- coloured iron trunks, different sizes, 2 of which supposed to have been taken to Leeds or Halifax, 3rd inst., and deposited at railway stations. Sentenced at Preston Quarter Sessions, 30th June, 1897, to 5 years penal servitude for stealingjjtvearing apparel, and was under supervision on a former sentence till 6t. h inst. Has been convicted at Manchester, Wakefield, Hitchen, Newcastle- on- Tyne and Sal- ford, and is now wanted for failing to report at Manchester. Information to Supt. Graham, Carlisle. DENBIGHSHIRE. 8. — Denbigh ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), at Ruthin, a double- barrel breech- loading gun, central fire, dent in left barrel about 8 in. from end, screw between hammers damaged, lever under trigger guard, left nipple much worn, maker ( supposed) Osborne, Birmingham — THOMAS BASSINDALE, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, slightly round shoulders, small aval face, hair dark, moustache light sandy ; usually wears dark morning coat, hard felt hat. A groom. Absconded 20th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Denbigh, or to Sergt. Woollam, Ruthin. DERBYSHIRE. 9.— Chesterfield ( Bormiqh).— For fail- ing to report— Supervisee JESSE HUTCHIN- SON, Office No. 572- 02, age 39, height 5 ft. 8* in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, scar left eyebrow, back of head and back of left shoulder ( large), 2 large white birthmarks centre back and 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. Sentenced at Derby Quarter Sessions, 1st January, 1902, to 2 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. 1806. Information to Chief Constable Kilpatrick, Chesterfield. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 10.— Chipping Campden ( County).— For housebreaking and stealing a light brown dust coat; 1 light check jacket and vest; 1 pair Chipping Norton tweed riding breeches ( right knee torn), strapped inside knees with light colour velvet; 1 pair brown leather leggings ; I white neckerchief; 1 light colour shirt, collar attached, with pink stripes; 1 pair light lace boots; 1 silver watch, " A. S." engraved inside case ; 1 common keyless watch, imitation gold case ; 1 lady's silver neck chain, small links— A MAN, age about 24, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, thin face, hair brown, clean shaved, speaks with North Country accent, very talkative; wearing the stolen clothing. Ap- pearance of a groom; supposed a native of Leicestershire. Is believed to have been employed at hunting stables. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Chipping Campden. 11.— Ours ley ( County).— For forgery— RICHARD DAUNCEY, age 40, height 5 ft. II in., complexion fair, hair brown, rather heavy moustache light, eyes grey, rather thick lips; dress, dark lounge jacket and vest, blue striped trousers, dark bowler hat. Is fond of billiards and horse racing. A native of Watton- under- Edge. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Perkins, Dursley. 12.— Stroud ( County). — For obtaining money, food and lodgings by fraud— CHARLES BERNARD WHITE, age about 25, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light, eyes blue, Roman nose ; dress, black coat, grey mixture trousers, blue tie, white sailor hat with black band, black hard felt hat or grey check cap, lace kid boots, wearing gold colour chain. Stated he was a native of Grimsby, and that he had been invalided from Thorneycroft's Horse in South Africa. Had in his possession a pair of khaki breeches. He left behind a khaki jacket with star on shoulder.— BIRDIE WHITE, alias RASHLEY, age about 22, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark; dress, dark blue dress, large white straw hat with white silk rosette, lace boots with pointed toes. Sup- posed a native of the Isle of Wight. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. 13.— Bristol ( City).— For failing to report— Licence- holder GEORGE GREENLAND, age 63, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, scar 2nd right, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd left fingers, mole right of neck. Sentenced at Central Criminal Court, London, 20th July, 1896, to 7 years penal servitude for forgery. Licenced 18th October last. M W 6. Information to Chief Constable Allbutt, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 14.— Bournemouth ( County).— For em- bezzlement — CHARLES ANDREWS, age 26, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, prominent chin; dress, navy blue suit, light check cap, brown boots. A baker; native of Fulham ; formerly employed at a biscuit factory at Reading. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Bournemouth. Id— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 14th inst., a £ 10 Bank of England note ; 1 gold wedding ring ; and £ 8— ETHEL FREDA NORWOOD, age 25, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue, addicted to drink ; well dressed. A native of Southampton. May seek employment at theatres, & c., or be found in company of music hall artists. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HER TFORDSHIRE. 16.— Hertford ( County).— For obtaining 14s. by false pretences, 28th ult.— PETER HARRINGTON, alias JOHN ARMITAGE, and RICHARDSON, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair turning grey, whiskers and moustache ' dark brown, eyes dark; dress, dark jacket suit. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Shore, Hertford. 17.— Ware ( County). — For stealing, 19th inst., at Bnntingford, a silver dagger about 10 in. long ; 1 straw hat; 1 travelling mirror— DAVID GILBERT, age about 28, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion ruddy, hair brown. A carpenter; native of Ware. Has served i nthe Royal Engineers. Was invalided home from South Africa, and discharged about 12 months ago. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. KENT. 18.— Chatham ( County).— For stealing a lady's small silver watch, picture of boat on dial; and £ 3 5s.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, heart, & c., tattooed left arm, scar top of head and on left elbow, gun shot wound left leg; dress, light grey suit, light tweed cap, canvas shoes with black leather binding. Supposed to have served in the Army. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. 19.— Tonhridge ( County).— For cruelty to their children — WILLIAM CHANTLER, age about 42, height 6 ft., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, peculiar walk; dress, brown jacket and vest, black trousers, plaid scarf, hard felt hat, light lace boots ( all old). A labourer. — EMMA HUMPHREY, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes dark, peculiar walk; dress, black jacket, brown skirt, black hat trimmed blue flowers, light lace boots, carried a bundle tied in a red hand- kerchief and an umbrella. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Styles, Tonbridge. LANCASHIRE. 20. — Chorley ( County). — For stealing, between 7th and 11th inst., a lady's small gold watch, white dial, gold hands, back of outer case set pearls ( 2 missing); 6 Indian gold rings, unstamped ( 1 snake pattern; 4 plain gold ; 1 dress, set 12 diamonds, ruby in centre); 2 silver Albert guards ( 1 heavy curb pattern, other small link pattern), both have silver medals attached; 1 pair gold bracelets, snake pattern— GEORGE MARINER, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, thin features, hair and moustache dark brown, limps; dress, black jacket and vest, light trousers, and cap. Warrant issued. Information to Acting Supt. Williams, Chorley. 21.— Skerton ( County).— For stealing, be- tween 9th and 10th inst., from his lodgings at Morecambe, a gold guard ( recovered), and a Maltese cross— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., square build, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark, of smart appearance and good address ; dress, dark suit, black hat. Supposed a native of Bradford or Leeds. Will seek employ- ment as a waiter, & c. He pledged the above guard at Lancaster in the name of Richard Taylor, Clarence Cafe, Goose Gate, Nottingham. Ab- sconded 10th inst. Information to Supt. Harnett, Skerton. 22.— Widnes ( County). — For larceny— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., hair auburn, long moustache, large scar bridge of nose, 3 fingers one hand crooked; dress, light colour jacket, cord trousers, cap, clogs. Information to Supt. Keighley, Widnes. 23.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to report — Licence- holder JOHN CORNWALL, alias BURTON, WHITLEY and WHATLEY, Office No. 878- 02, age 66, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair grey ( bald), eyes blue, scar back of neck and left forefinger, mole left of neck and elbow. A joiner; native of London. Sentenced at Boston Quarter Sessions, 27th June, 1898, to 5 years penal servitude for fraud. Licenced 26th March last. N T Y 25. For failing to report— Licence- holder JEMIMA BENNETT, alias BROWNHILL, WILSON and JOHNSON, Office No. 295- 02, age 41, height 4 ft. 5 in., complexion ruddy, hair brown, eyes grey, scar forehead, left forearm and right elbow, mole left cbeek, left of neck and 2 left collarbone] lost several teeth, blotchy face. A charwoman ; native of Manchester. Sentenced at Oldham Sessions, 26th January, 1900, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 28th January last. A 5. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 24.— Warrington ( Borough).— For horse- stealing— WILLIAM MACKIE, alias TAYLOR and BURROWS, age 27, height 5 ft. 6| in„ com- plexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, 3rd right finger missing. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 25.— Newport ( Borough). — For stealing, 15th inst., a watch and guard ( recovered)— A MAN, who gave the name of CHARLES T. LEWIS, age about 23, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallow, slight moustache dark, of good address ; dress, dark vicuna or blue serge suit, black hard felt hat. He called at a house, ascertained from a child that her parents were out, stole the above articles, and decamped. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, New- port. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 26.— Kettering ( County). — For obtaining £ 16 5s. 9d., by false pretences, 9th inst.— ( 1EORGE F. HURDLE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 in., rather stout build, complexion dark, hair ( turning grey) and slight moustache black, eyes dark, scar ( about 1 in. long, i in. wide) back of head, has a habit of biting under lip, wears a ring on right little finger, carries a cane, bright studs in knob. May seek employment as an insurance agent or follow racing. Usually stays at public houses. May have letters addressed " Mr. George." Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrews, Kettering. SOMERSE TSHIRE. 27.— Bath ( City).— For embezzling £ 17 10s. — WILLIAM MARTIN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair brown, moustache rather ginger, cut scar left thumb; dress, slate colour jacket suit ( double- breasted vest), fiat straw hat with black band, button boots. Was employed as manager to a firm of Colonial butchers. Has served 12 years in the Royal Horse Artillery. Supposed accompanied by hie wife and 2 children ( a boy and girl). Absconded 7th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bath. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 28.— West Bromwich ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee WILLIAM PETERS, Office No 1910- 02, age 64, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair grey ( bald), eyes hazel, blue mark left temple and left forearm, burn scar right elbow, 9 dote between left thumb and fore- finger, ring 2nd left finger; dress, black jacket, dark vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, flat top. A tailor ; native of Birmingham. Sentenced at West Bromwich Sessions, 25th October, 1901, to 9 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for larceny. Liberated on remission, 3rd inst. 4490. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich. SUFFOLK ( East). 29.— Lowestoft ( County). — For stealing, 6th inst., a " Louisville" bicycle, nearly new, 22 in. frame. Palmer tyres, back rim brake, dropped handle bar, no bell, lamp, or mudguards — WILLIAM GOGGINS, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel; dress, blue serge suit and cap. A native of Bow, London. Is a private of the Royal Marine Light Infantry, and a deserter from H. M. S. Hearty. Absconded 7th inst. He booked from Yarmouth to London, on 7th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Shipp, Lowestoft. 30.— Ipswich ( Borough). — For stealing ( bailee), 8th inst., a bicycle— WALTER HENRY DOBSON, age 22, height 6 ft., weight about 12 stones, complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, cross swords and heart tattooed on right forearm, crown on left forearm; dress, blue guernsey, moleskin trousers, and cap, sometimes wears a white guernsey. Supposed previously convicted. Information to be forwarded to Supt. Vedy, Y Division of Police, Kentish Town, London, N. W. complexion, hair ( inclined to curl), slight mous- tache, and eyes ( near sighted) dark, sometimes wears pince- nez, gold rims, blinks wh ? n not wearing same. A bank clerk. FLINTSHIRE. 32.— Holy well ( County).— For stealing £ 200 from the Rhyl Branch of the London and Pro- vincial Bank, Ltd.— RICHARD PERCIVAL, age 33.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing and fraudulently converting a bill of lading of the value of £ 166 8s. 7d., to his own use on 18th July, 1899 — FREDERICK WALTER TYLEE, square build, complexion, hair ( short) and whiskers ( trimmed) dark, walks erect; dress, dark jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, grey soft felt hat. Was employed as Secretary to the Burton- on- Trent Co- operative Society; a native of Enderby, near Leicester. Has served in the Army. Absconded 15th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Burton- on- Trent Co- operative Society, to any person giving such information as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the above. Information to Supt. Hicklin, Burton- on- Trent.
