All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them, by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment m ust be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of loi. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ^. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not lest rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. " 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than iwon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, avid accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons misting can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. E. R. HENRY, Editor. NOTICE. Supposed a native of Lowestoft, Suffolk. Warrant issued. 5.— M Division*— For obtaining £ 100 by false pretences— GEORGE F. STANTON, alias KOHN, age 39 or 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, hollow cheet, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes ( small) grey, heavy eyebrows light, large mouth, front teeth divided, carries his head forward; dress, dark grey tweed suit, dark blue melton overcoat, bowler hat. A native of Germany. He stated that he was the patentee of a funnel, and that he required £ 100 for the purpose of bringing out the patent, lender to have a part share in the business. Supposed known at Liverpool and Birmingham. Warrant issued. FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is unwilling to incur any expense with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communication sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. 6.— P Division.— For stealing a £ 100 Bank of England note, No. 26415, dated 27th March, 1901; 10 £ 10 do., Nos. 86865 to 86874, dated 21st March, 1901; 12 £ 5 do., Nos. 08330 to 08337 and 08339 to 08342, dated 1st February, 1902— HER- BERT AUGUSTUS READER, age 13 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, ears project, broad nose, thick lips, cut scar 1 in. long behind left ear, well educated, can speak German ; dress, black coat and vest, grey trousers, Eton collar, cap, lace boots. SSsvision.— For stealing £ 18 7s. 6d- — RUPERT DURRANCE, age 22, height 5 ft. 7$ in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes grey, elephant and other marks tattooed right fore- arm, restless manner, walks quickly ; dress, black overcoat, velvet collar, black jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, dark tie, dark brown cap. A fishmonger ; native of Leeds. Warrant issued. 8.— x Division.— For obtaining a set of harness and £ 1 5s. by false pretences— ARTHUR STONE, age 45, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue; dress, light suit, black Muller hat. A horse dealer; native of Spark- brook, Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 9.— For stealing £ 341 17s. 10d.— EDWARD M. S. SOUL, age 54, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair, slight side whiskers, and moustache light, nose slightly distorted ; dress, black frock coat suit, silk hat. A banker's clerk ; late of Well- meadow Road, Hither Green, S. E. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McWilliam, 26 Old Jewry, E. C. ANGLESEY. 10.— Menai Bridge ( County).— On com- mitment warrant for non- payment of 19s. 6d. fine and costs, imposed for obstructing the high- way — CLEMENTINE WEBB, age about 70, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair grey, eyes blue. Travels with a van drawn by a white horse. 11.— Menai Bridge ( County).— On com- mitment warrants for non- payment of £ 2 9s. fine and costs, imposed for highway offences— ALBERT WEBB, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark. A gipsy ; native of Dorking, Surrey. Travels with a van and 2 horses ( 1 bay, 1 cream colour), both in poor condition. Information to Inspector Jones, Menai Bridge. A YRSHIRE. 12.— Ayr ( Burgh).— For stealing, 15th inst., 2 pairs ot trousers ( recovered)— JOHN KINNON, alios KEENAN and GOUDIE, age 31, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fair, long full face, hair ( short) rather red, slight moustache light, right leg about 5 in. shorter than left, and wears an iron clamp on boot, carries a stick ; dress, dark brown tweed jacket, light brown tweed vest with red check 2 in. square, dark tweed trousers, blue and white spotted muffler, dark peak cap. A tailor ; native of Ayr. Stays at common lodging houses. Has worked at Ardrossan, Belfast, Carlisle, Glasgow and Kilmarnock. Warrant issued. BERKSHIRE. 13.— Wokingham ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences, at Bracknell— ARTHUR RANDELL, age about 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) dark, eyes hazel, deep scar on left cheek, nose bent, walks badly, carries a stick ; dress, brown check jacket suit, brown cloth cap, lace boots. He stated he was a pensioner of the Royal Horse Artillery. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector ( ioddard, Wokingham. 14.— Reading ( Borough). — For stealing a safety bicycle, 24 in. frame, drop handle bars, cork grips, 28 in. wheels, Grappler tyre on front, Warwick tyre on back wheel, rat- trap pedals, " No. 69 " stamped on seat pillar tube, transfer " Speedwell Cycle Co., 83 Broad Street, Reading," on head and down tube ; a green plaid coat and vest; 1 pair check trousers ; 1 pair boots; 1 brown cap— WALTER GEORGE MABBERLEY, age 20, height 5 ft. 5£ in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache ; wearing the stolen clothing. CHESHIRE. 15.— Birkenhead ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences at Lower Bebington— GORDON RUSSELL, age 32, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache and pointed beard ( cropped short) brown, cut mark left elbow and above left knee, 2nd and 3rd right fingers deformed, well educated ; dress, dark grey tweed jacket suit, small check pattern, greenish- brown peak cap, lace boots with square toes. Supposed a native of Bath. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bowyer, County Hall, Birkenhead. 16.— Dukinfield ( County).— For obtaining 3s. by false pretences, 5th inst.— FRANK CHAP- MAN, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, thin features, hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes ( full) dark, pro- minent teeth ; dress, dark suit, black overcoat, silk striped muffler, hard felt hat, lace boots. A native of Hyde, near Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Croghan, Dukinfield. DEVONSHIRE. 17. — Exeter ( County). — For forging a cheque, 4th inst.— A MAN, who gave the names of MAJOR BARNETT, MORRIS, DEITZ, and CAPT. HURSK, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slightly bow- legged, complexion fresh, face and neck rather red, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown ; dress, dark coat, grey trousers, lace boots. Had in his possession a card, " Deitz, 3 Dorset Square, N. W." thereon. Supposed identical with Victor Brassey, Case No. 37, and Man, Case No. 41, 21st ult. Stated he was a EYeemason. Warrant issued. 18.— Exeter ( County).— For embezzlement at North Tawton— A. PHILLIPS, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, heavy moustache, may now be clean shaved ; dress, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, and supposed dark blue overcoat. A native of Morchard Bishop. Has been em- ployed as working manager to a firm of coal and general merchants. Absconded lst inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. 19.— Exeter( City).— For obtaining by a forged • cheque, a double- barrel gun, hammerless, top lever ejector, " Agnew & Son, Exeter," on barrels, No. 7553 on trigger guard, in a leather case; and 2 packets of cartridges, 50 in packet— HERBERT G. MORRIS, Major ( supposed false), age about 38, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown; dress, dark overcoat, grey trousers, lace boots. He obtained goods, and in payment tendered a cheque which was afterwards returned marked " no account." Is identical with Victor J. Brassey, Case No. 37, and Man, Case No. 41, 21st ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Exeter. DURHAM. 20.— Sunderland ( Borough).— For stealing 10 dentist's forceps, 3 nickel- plated, others steel, honey combed grasps ; 6 stopping instruments ; 1 mouth mirror; and 10 impression trays— R. ANDERSON, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., thick set, complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, blue scar bridge of nose ( supposed to have been broken); dress, dark grey single breasted overcoat, dark blue striped trousers, dark grey soft felt hat. A mechanical dentist; native of Glasgow or Dundee. Absconded 29th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Sunderland. ESSEX. 21.— Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing, 17th inst., from her lodgings, a lady's silver Geneva watch, white dial, steel hands, chased back; 1 white lace collarette ; 1 gold bracelet, £ in. wide, chased fern leaves ; 1 silver do., $ in. wide; 1 black alpaca skirt, bound with black velvet at bottom; 1 white linen nightdress; 1 twill do.; 1 blue silk tie: 6 ladies' handkerchiefs, and 19s.— A WOMAN, supposed name ELLEN MAYHEW, age 29, height .> ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair ( curled on forehead) brown, several right front and back teeth of upper jaw missing, of lady- like appearance, fond of cycling; dress, black skirt, light blouse, trimmed black velvet ribbon, dark grey jacket, black patent leather shoes, fastens with 2 straps. A dressmaker; supposed a native of Essex. She poses as a detective. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 22,— Witharn ( County).— For stealing, 15th inst., a pony, cart and harness ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 27, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., com- plexion inclined to sallow, hair and moustache dark, eyes supposed slightly crossed, Roman nose; dress, black diagonal jacket suit, fawn colour rain proof overcoat, hard felt hat; wearing gold coloured ring on left little finger, and gold coloured watch chain. Information to Supt. Harrington, Witham. FLINTSHIRE. 23.— Mold ( County).— For stealing a brown mackintosh, velvet collar, " Distinguished Water- proof " on tab ; 1 pair grey tweed trousers with patent studs ; 1 blue and white striped silk muffler — HARRY CORBETT, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved ; dress, dark blue jacket, black low- cut vest, side spring boots with high heels, navy blue cap, and the stolen property. A saddler, recently employed as a labourer ; native of Nantwich. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davies, Mold. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 24. — Cardiff ( Borough). — For stealing ( bailee) £ 5 15s. 6d.— EDWARD LINDSEY, age 44, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark, moustache dark brown, gruff voice; dress, grey suit, brown leggings. A bailiff. He absconded in February last, and may be ac- companied by his step- daughter, age 18, complexion fresh, hair dark. Warrant issued. 25.— Cardiff ( Borough). — For stealing a horse, cart and harness ( recovered) — JOHN MOGG RIDGE, age 25, height 5 ft. 6J in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes dark grey, good teeth, cut scars on head, under right side of jaw, both eyebrows, above nose and left side of fore- head, 3 abscess scars outside left forearm, scar back of left little finger, end of left thumb injured, scars both knees, boil scar right hip and back of right thigh, ruptured right side, light brown mole right side of back. A seaman or labourer. May be found in company of prostitutes, low class seamen, or at common lodging houses, or may endeavour to go to sea. Warrant issued. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 26.— Bristol ( City).— For failing to report — Supervisee JOHN FORD, Office No. 421- 02, age 22, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes grey, cross and 3 dots left forearm, dot between right thumb and finger and lst and 2nd left fingers. Sentenced at Gloucester, 16th October, 1901, to 4 months hard labour and 2 years supervision for tool stealing. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 27.— Aldershot ( County). — For stealing, between 22nd and 23rd inst., a light colour check tweed jacket suit, double- breasted vest, " Johnson, Tailor, Chester," on buttons; 1 black dress suit, with silk facings, " Flight, Tailor, Winchester," on tab; and about £ 40— GEORGE OSBORNE ROOKS, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light, eyes hazel, protruding forehead, eyes set rather close together, takes quick steps ; supposed wearing the above check tweed suit. A stableman ; native of Blackburn, Lanes. Is a private, No. 6233, of the 2nd Hamp- shire Regiment. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 28. — Bournemouth ( County). — For neglecting to maintain their children, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Christchurch Union — FREDERICK SIDNEY FOOTE, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair sandy, eyes hazel. A labourer; native of Pokesdown.— ALFRED JOHN HURLEY, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes hazel, gunshot, cross flags, cross anchors and 2 crosses tattooed left forearm, 5 crosses with star in centre, back left hand, star, wheel, and anchor right forearm, bracelet right wrist, cross back right hand, scar left side of head. A labourer ; native of Brighton. May be found on public works. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Bournemouth. 29.— Winchester ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 18th inst.— A WOMAN, who gave the names of SARAH BURNEY, AYTON and HORTON, age about 30, rather stout build, complexion dark or sallow, hair ( heavy fringe on forehead) dark brown, eyes dark ; dress, green costume, rather large black straw hat, trimmed black silk, white daisies and flowers under brim, wearing an oval silver brooch, " Jennie " thereon, carried a black silk umbrella with white T- shape handle. She called at registry offices, represented herself as a cook, and having obtained names of ladies, called upon them, and, after being engaged, obtained money for the purpose of paying her railway fare. Warrant issued. 30 — Winchester ( City).— For stealing, 19th inst., a silver cigarette case, chased, " B. C." engraved thereon ; 1 yellow stone seal, mounted in gold, with 3 sides, 1 side basket, one side lamp with butterfly, and other with hour glass, 1 English and 2 French mottoes on seal— A WOMAN, who gave the names of ALICE TAYLOR and ROSE HOLT, age about 25, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., rather slight build, com- plexion dark, hair ( frizzy over forehead) dark brown, eyes dark, small marks left cheek, small mark upper lip ; dress, black skirt, trimmed 3 rows of black satin ribbon, three- quarter length fawn colour jacket, trimmed with several rows of braid, black straw sailor hat with black band, or black velvet hat with paste buckle. She called at registry offices, represented herself as a cook, and having obtained names of ladies, called upon one of them for the purpose of being engaged, and, during her temporary absence, committed the above larceny. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Felton, Guild- hall, Winchester. KENT. 31.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For deserting his wife, leaving her chargeable to the CommonFund of the Maidstone Poor Law Union— WILLIAM J. ANGELL, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., rather thick set, complexion dark, thin features, hair dark brown, slight moustache sandy, eyes grey; dress, light coat and vest, grey trousers, hard felt hat, grey overcoat. A ventriloquist. Had with him a black portmanteau containing figures. Is accompanied by a woman, age 31, rather tall, slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown ; dress, check skirt, fawn colour coat, white sailor hat. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 32.— Newport ( Borough). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— A MAN, who gave the name of SMITH, age about 48, height about 5 ft. 8 in., thick set, complexion fresh, round features, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes small, piercing ; dress, black suit, square cut lounge coat, long black single- breasted overcoat, black bow tie, black hard felt hat. He took lodgings, 12th inst., for 6 days, stated that he was a preacher engaged on a mission at the English Baptist Chapel; also that he belonged to London, and had come from Pontypool. Absconded 18th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, New- port. STAFFORDSHIRE. 33.— Longton ( County).— For deserting his wife and family, 27th ult.— HENRY BARLOW, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes blue, head trephined with silver plate ; dress, dark jacket and vest, moleskin trousers, white neckerchief, dark cap, heavy lace boots. A collier or sinker; native of Longton. Warrant issued. 34.— Longton ( County).— For deserting her 3 children— EMILY FOX, age 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion, hair, and eyes dark ; dress, dark jacket, grey dress, black sailor hat. Left London 10th October, 1898, for Leeds, and is supposed to have visited Boston Spa, Preston, Holmes Chapel, METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 37.— C Division,— For obtaining £ 20 by conspiracy and fraud, 27th ult.— Licence- holder FRANCIS BRUNO KAHLER, alias BRUNO BEHRENS and SINCLAIR, Office No. 3147- 01, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, birthmark ARTHUR FINN, WILLIAM EVERETT, and THOMAS FANCOURT, Office No. 2888- 98, age 49, height 5 ft. in, complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey, right arm wasted, elbow deformed and Castleford, Derby and Peterborough, and to have been latterly employed at Hanbury, Staffs. SURREY. 41.— Reigate ( Borough). — For obtaining money by false pretences, 11th inst.— A WOMAN, who gave the name of MAY LONGHURST, age about 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in, complexion pale, hair dark, supposed small birthmark on left cheek ; dress, short fawn colour coat, black skirt with black silk bands round bottom, black hat with heliotrope trimming under brim, black boa. She obtained from a registry office for servants, names of persons requiring cooks, then called upon them, stating that she had been sent from the registry office. After agreeing to accept each situation, she represented that she had lost her purse, and obtained her expenses to return to Haslemere, where she stated she was in service. Warrant issued. He called at a shop, pre- sented a note purporting to be from a gentleman well known in the district, asking the manager to cash a cheque, which was afterwards found to be worthless, and the note a forgery.
