All announcement* for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD. LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken, upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of sonic person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be elearli/ stated. à. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15 « . per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. á. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent : and, if the iwme of such person is required, to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must he signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ATIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rant than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and,, as fur as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged hy counties. 9. The force which ca uses particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor iwtice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Annovncements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost, or persons missing can only be accepted, on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. E. R. HENBY, Editor. NOTICE. Letters relating to criminal business addressed by other Police Forces to Scotland Yard, are very frequently delayed, owing to the envelopes con- taining them being directed incorrectly or inade- quately. CITY OF LONDON. 1.— For forgery and fraud— JOFIN HERVEY REDGRAVE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., weight 16 or 17 stones, complexion fair, heavy fleshy jaws, narrow forehead, hair dark, slight moustache brown, good teeth, wears pince- nez, well kept hands, of good address. He escaped from custody, 18th ult., and is supposed to have in his possession 10 £ 100 Bank of England notes, Nos. 20922, 89602, and 88701 to 8. dated 27th February, 1901 ; 2 £ 50 notes, Nos. 02162 and dated 26th February, 1901; 4 £ 5 notes, Nos. 31547 to 31550, dated 21st February, 1901. ( See Case No. 9, 21st ult.) Warrants issued. Information to Supt. McWilliam, 26 Old Jewry, E. C. BERKSHIRE. 2.— Reading ( County).— For obtaining £ 14 13s. by false pretences, 20th ult.— HENRY WILLMER, afo'as WILLIAMS, LORD and NASH, age 42, height 5 ft. 5f in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair ( bald on top) and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, scar ba3e of left thumb; dress, dark or black ( morning coat) suit, black tie, soft felt hat. A pianoforte tuner. Is ac- companied by his wife, age about 40. May endeavour to obtain employment by a forged character. Warrant issued. Photograph can be seen on application. Information to Supt. Davis, County Police Office, Reading. 3.— Wokingham ( County).— For stealing £ 3— KARL BERTOLLETTI, an Austrian, age 18, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair light; dress, light suit and overcoat, soft felt hat, had with him a slate colour portmanteau. An indoor servant. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 4.— Wokingham ( County).— For stealing 2 overcoats ; 2 boys' suits; and 2 serge dresses ( workhouse clothing)— MARY BARNES, age 35, height 5 ft., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes ( small) grey; dress, dark blue dress, grey and blue plaid shawl, black straw hat trimmed black feathers. A native of East- hampstead. May be found working in fields, or at lodging houses. Is accompanied by 2 boys and a girl, ages 11, 9 and 7 respectively. Warrant issued. 5.— Wokingham ( County).— For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Wokingham Union — ALBERT BARNES, age 32, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes ( lost sight of right) blue, 1 hand has been injured ; dress, dark pilot coat, cord or fustian trousers, cap. A brickmaker; native of Eaet- hampstead. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Goddard, Wokingham. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 6.— High Wycombe ( Borough). - For stealing. 3rd inst., a silver English lever watch, No. 24805, " Graves Express " on dial, long small link silver neck chain attached; 1 pair new lace boots, size 10, tipped and nailed — YOUNG VOUSLEY, alias NEWMAN, SOLDIER, and LANKEY, age 55, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., com- plexion fresh, hair, heavy moustache, and imperial brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, walks badly, one knee turns inward, of military appearance; dress, dark overcoat, brown or grey tweed trousers, brown cap, heavy boots; carried a bundle wrapped in a blue handkerchief. A labourer. ( See Case No. 26,11th October, 1901). Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Head Constable Sparling, High Wycombe. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 7.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For obtain- ingfood and lodgings by false pretences, 15th, 16th, and 17th inst.— A MAN, age about 24, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair cut short, clean shaved; dress, black jacket, dark blue fancy vest with spots, dark plaid trousers, brownish mixture overcoat, black tie with blue and white spots, black hard felt hat, lace boots, " Public Benefit Boot Company " on loop. He took lodgings, 15th inst., stating he had just arrived from Belfast, that he was an electrical engineer, and had obtained employment in the town. Absconded 17th inst. Supposed wanted else- where. Warrant issued. 8.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For larceny ( bailee), during November last — WILLIAM HYSLOP, alias WILLIAM CAMERON JOHN- STON, and WILLIAM GEORGE ALEXANDER HYSLOP, a Scotchman, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion sallow, long face, hair and moustache dark ; dress, grey suit, black hard felt hat. A credit draper's traveller. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge. CHESHIRE. 9. Middlewich ( County).— For stealing, 10th inst., at Cranage, a circular fluted gold brooch, set coloured stones, place in centre for photograph ; 1 white muffler; 1 blue satin tie ; 1 white linen collar and front; and a tea infuser— WILLIAM TURNER, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 in., 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. Information to Supt. Pearson, Middlewich. CORNWALL. 10.— Launceston ( County).— For obtaining ladies' wearing apparel by false pretences— A MAN, age 50 to 60, height about 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair grey, supposed slight white whiskers under chin, low voice, pointed chin, stoops slightly, well educated; wearing long dark overcoat, supposed bound with black braid, white neckerchief, black square top hat, boots much worn. He has been answering advertisements inserted in the Lady by writing thus :—" Madam,— My wife, who has sprained her wrist, asks me to write you with reference to your advertisement in the Lady, and if you have not yet disposed of your satin dress, send it on ap- proval, and if suitable 1 would at once forward the amount," & c., and signs himself as " Richard Eustace, retired Fleet Surgeon, R. N.," also " Wm. G. Bird." He asks that the parcels may be sent to small post offices at country places, calls for them the same day, and absconds. Is now believed to be using the names " J. B. C. Warrington, retired Fleet Engineer, R. N.," and " Herbert Renshaw, retired Fleet Surgeon," is no doubt one of a firm of swindlers, and has received parcels from the Metropolis, Midlands, and the North of England. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Nicholls, Launceston. DEVONSHIRE. 11.— Exeter ( County). — For obtaining a soft grey evening cloak, trimmed white fox fur; 1 seal skin jacket and skirt; 1 red costume dress, and other articles by fraud— BERNARD RENSHAW, alias B. E. WARRINGTON, age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 8 to 10 in., thin features, whiskers and moustache grey, chin shaved ; dress, black frock coat, dark trousers and vest, white muffler, brown gloves, hard felt hat with rather flat top. Is identical with man, Case No. 7, 7th inst., and his mode of operating is as described therein. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. 12.— Exeter ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences— E. T. LUCOCK, age about 45, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, complexion pale, full face, hair and moustache dark ( turning grey), crescent shape scar between eyes, addicted to drink ; dress, dark navy blue suit, long dark overcoat, black hard felt hat, supposed brown boots. Has been employed as a canvasser for a Safety Ink Bottle Syndicate, Ltd., Birmingham; also distributing bills for animated pictures. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Exeter. DURHAM. 13. — Barnard Castle ( County). — For stealing a silver Geneva watch — RiCHARD WILLIAM FOX, age about 40, height 6 ft. 1 or 2 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache brown, walks erect; dress, dark green cloth jacket suit, hard felt hat, lace boots. A plasterer; supposed a native of Shropshire or Staffordshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cameron, Barnard Castle. ESSEX. 14.— Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 15th inst., a gold medal ( re- covered) GLOVER ( supposed false), age 30 to 40, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion rather dull, hair brown, heavy moustache reddish ; dress, mixture tweed suit, trousers lighter than jacket, dark rain- proof overcoat, cloth cap, lace boots, brown gloves, carried a stick with crown handle. Stated he was an electrical engineer. Supposed identical with Wilfred St. Aubyn, Case No. 24, 14th inst. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somer- set, Chelmsford. 15.— Romford ( County).— For stealing, 26th ult., a lady's " Singer" bicycle, Model de Luxe, No. 141056, 1898, enamelled black, picked out gold, usual parts plated, 23 in. frame, 26 in. wheels, Palmer tyres, some of the paint rubbed off rim of front wheel, small tool bag, lamp, accessories, and cyclometer ( broken) attached— A MAN, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, hair and alight moustache dark ; wearing black jacket and vest, black hard felt hat, lace boots. 16.— Romford ( County). — For larceny— ERNEST WILLIAM LOCKETT, alias JOSEPH and WILLIAM LOCKETT, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curl) light, slight moustache ginger, small eyes, squints, drags one foot slightly. A plumber and gas fitter. Absconded 15th ult. Was accom- panied by his wife and 2 young children. Warrant issued. 17.— Romford ( County). — For obtaining £ 3 14s. by false pretences— HORACE BANKS, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, high forehead, hair light brown, slight moustache fair, eyes ( small and sunken) supposed grey; wearing dark over- coat, black hard felt hat. He took lodgings 5th inst., advertised 7th and 8th inst. a bulldog for sale in the Exchange and Mart and Our Dogs, received a large number of letters and telegrams, and absconded 12tli inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Creasy, Romford. 18 — Saffron Walden ( County). — On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 1 3s. imposed for wilful damage— EDWARD TAYLOR, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair, and slight moustache dark, eyes dark brown, broad features, slight impediment in speech ; dress, long dark drab jacket, drab vest, cord trousers, old black cap. A hawker, travels with a van painted drab and light green, and attends fairs with a cokernut stand. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Saffron Walden. £ 2 REWARD. 19.— Colchester ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Colchester Union— WILLIAM SMITH, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, 2 moles small of back, burn scar on one knee. A native of Colchester. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Colchester Union, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Smith. Information to Chief Constable Coombs, Col- chester. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. £ 2 REWARD. 20.— Bridgend ( County). — For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Bridgend and Cowbridge Union— JOHN EVANS, age 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion, hair, moustache and eyes dark. A tailor, but was employed until recently by the Singer Sewing Machine Company soliciting orders ; native of Carmarthen. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Bridgend and Cowbridge Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Evans. Information to Supt. Davis, Bridgend. 21 — Cardiff ( Borough). — For failing to report— Licence- holder HENRY ATKINS, alias WALTER THOMAS JONES, and HENRY TAYLOR, Office No. 638- 02, age 40, height 5 ft. 2^ in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes hazel, scar left eyebrow, bridge of nose, and back right hand, mole left side, old fracture under left knee, bunion each foot. A labourer; native of Torquay. Sentenced at Northampton Sessions, 8th April, 1897, to 5 years penal servitude and 2 years police supervision. Liberated on 2nd licence, 7th inst., which expires 4th June, 1902. T X 37. Information to the Head Constable, Borough Police, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.— BristolKCity).— For failing to report— Licence- holder WILLIAM HENRY HANNAN, alias THOMAS HARGREAVES, WILLIAM HENRY HANNON, and HAMAN, Office No. 289- 02, age 38, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar right of forehead, each eyebrow, WHMHMR, blue line over and under left, American coat- of- arms, wreath under, with YOUNG AMERICA in centre, right fore- arm, anchor between left thumb and finger. Sentenced at Blackburn Quarter Sessions, 20th October, 1899, to 3 years penal servitude for shop- breaking. Licenced 25th January last. R Z 181. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— Aldershot ( County).— For failing to report— Licence- holder WILLIAM JONES, alias FREDERICK ALLEN, Office No. 291- 02, age 49, height 5 ft. 11£- in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes brown, scar left of forehead, flower back left wrist, male and female and 2 animals left, animal and blue dots right thigh ; dress when last seen, long dark overcoat, brown trousers, brown skull cap. Three times convicted of burglary ; a dangerous criminal, and it is strongly suspected that he is now engaged committing similar offences. Sentenced at Hants Assizes, 15th November, 1895, to 7 years penal servitude and remanet of former sentence for burglary. Liberated on licence 24th January, 1902, which expires 4th January, 1904. R V 289. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 24 . — Bournemouth ( County). — For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Common Fund of the Christchurch Union— WILLIAM COWARD, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown ; dress, Norfolk jacket, brown tweed breeches and gaiters, black hard felt hat. A groom. Has served in the Wiltshire Militia. Supposed accompanied by a woman, age 24, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair red, eyes blue; dress, black skirt and jacket, black sailor hat, trimmed black band. Warrant issued. Photograph can be seen on application. Information to Supt. Foster, Bournemouth. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing a Post Office Savings Bank book, No. 9245, in name of Henry Richard Johnson, showing a deposit of £ 5 15s.— WILLIAM JOHN ALLEN, age 21£, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar on left eyebrow, dot tattooed on left fingers. Is a gunner of the R. Marine Artillery ; when last seen was wearing uniform. He withdrew the above amount by telegram, on 1st inst. 26.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For larceny ( lodgings), 6th inst.— WILFRED ST. AUBYN, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, heavy moustache auburn, eyes blue ; dress, grey suit, trousers of lighter material than coat, dark overcoat, black felt hat, brown gloves and boots. Stated he was an engineer at the gas works. 27.— Portsmouth ( Borough). — For em- bezzling 4s., 26th ult.— WILLIAM JAMES LOAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, com- plexion, hair and moustache dark; dress, dark suit, dark grey overcoat, dark blue and white tie, black bowler hat. A canvasser and salesman. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. 28.— s outhampton ( Borough).— For maliciously setting fire to the steam yacht " Ada," in the River Itchen, 25th ult.— WILLIAM GUY, age about 55, height 5 ft. 8 in., hair dark, beard and moustache ginger, turning grey, lost sight of one eye; dressed as a yachtsman. A native of Bristol, was employed as captain of the above yacht, and is well known around the south coast. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. KENT. 29.— Chatham ( County). For deserting his wife and children, and for neglecting his two illegitimate children — TOM DAVIS, age 47, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache ( turning grey) brown, eyes grey, scar on chin; dress, reefer jacket, fustian trousers, neckerchief, skull cap. A labourer, usually employed on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. 30.— West Mailing ( County). — For larceny— ALBERT SHORTER, age 21, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, slight moustache light, eyes grey, stoops when walking ; dress, grey dust coat, light tweed suit, hard felt hat. LANCASHIRE. 31.— Rochdale ( Borough). — For stealing, 14th inst., a lady's gold Geneva watch, No. 34893, open face, white dial, chased back, in dark red leather case, " Butterworth, Jeweller, Shipley," in gilt letters inside ; 1 gold crescent brooch, set brilliants, large in centre graduated to extreme points; 1 lady's gold ring, set diamond; 1 do., set 2 garnets and 3 pearls; 1 do. 18 ct. ring, empty setting for stone; 1 long dark brown bear- skin boa ; 1 light grey fur necklet; 1 helio- trope and white striped silk blouse; 1 fawn colour cape ; 1 green mackintosh cape; 1 dark velvet belt, large gilt oblong buckle at back; 1 pair button boots, size 4— ANNIE ELIZABETH DOYLE, age 21, height 5 ft. 1 in., hair ( with heavy fringe) and eyes dark, 2 boils on face; dress, black skirt, fawn colour cape, large hat trimmed black quill and red flowers, and the stolen blouse and boots. A domestic servant; native of Manchester. She obtains situations through registry offices. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Barry, Roch- dale. TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 1902. DEVONSHIRE- — Exeter ( County).— Committed for trial at Quarter Sessions, 8th prox., for larceny ( person), viz., stealing diamond rings from ties, on 6th inst — JOHN CLARK ( supposed fake), age 40, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, scar under lip right side and back of right hand, blue dot and large brown mole back of right forearm, injury to 3rd joint of right fore linger ; well dressed. States he is a native of Leicester. Supposed previously convicted. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED SURREY. 33.— Reigate ( Borough).— For absconding from Redhill Reformatory School, 14th ult.— A LBERTNICHOLLS, agel8, height about 4 ft. 9 in., high clieek bones, hair dark brown, eyes brown, short nose, right shoulder drops slightly, asthma- tical; both wearing drab colour cord suits, 41 Farm School" in ink under knees, arms and on waistband, shoes with rubber soles. Information to the Head Constable, Reigate. LEICES TE R SHIRE. 34.— Leicester ( Borough).— For stealing, 5th inst., a bicycle ( recovered)— HERBERT GILL, age 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, hair light sandy, turning grey, moustache light; dress, light suit and cap. A native of Springates, near Bradford. Has been travelling the country selling imitation chamois leather. Information to the Chief Con table, Leicester. hair dark brown, eyes brown, flat nose, nearly blind left eye, of gipsy appearance.— GEORGE DUN- CAN, age 17, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion dark, NORFOLK. 35.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing ( bailee) a piano ( recovered)— GEORGE MIDDLETON, age about 34, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair light brown, supposed slight light moustache, thin lips, wide mouth. A cloth hawker; native of Norwich. Absconded about 24th ult.; is sup- posed travelling the country hawking cloth. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Winch, Norwich.
