All announcement! for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAED, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name ami address of some person responsible for the payment n, vst be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per plwto- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. E. K. HENRY, Editor. In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. FLINTSHIRE. 10.— Holywell { County).— For obtaining money by a worthless cheque — FRANCIS OLIVER, age 40 to 45, height about 6 ft., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, beard cropped short; dress, grey jacket suit, yellow leather leggings, check cap. Jacobs, Bitterne. 12 — IWinchester { City).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 3rd inst., a " Rudge- Whitworth " bicycle, enamelled black, usual parts plated, diamond frame, 28 in. wheels, Clincher rims, do. front tyre, Goodyear detachable back tyre, flat handle bar, cork grips, rat- trap pedals, transfer on back mudguard " Rudge- Whitworth," plain brown saddle, " No. 5" scratched on leather, inked over, dome bell, plain black Jupiter lamp, brass pump, no brake— WILLIAM GUNDRY, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion sallow, rather long face, high cheek bones, hair and slight moustache dark brown; dress, dark brown tweed jacket, dark trousers and vest, black tie with white spots, dark cap, side spring boots. Has been in an Industrial School. Supposed recently discharged from the Royal Marines. Stated he was an engineer, and had been employed at motor and cycle works. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Felton, Win- chester. 13.— Portsmouth { Borough).— For stealing from her lodgings, 30th ult., a slate colour mail cart, picked out gold; and £ 7— MILLY HOWARD, age about 26, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion dark, thin face, front teeth missing, slight scar on forehead; dress, short fawn colour jacket, dark skirt, black fur boa, white straw hat trimmed large black feather. Had with her a child, age 15 months. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. £ 1 REWARD. 14.— Bromyard { County).— For deserting his wife and family— RICHARD ROGERS, age 36, height 5 ft. 4 in., hair dark brown, moustache sandy, eyes grey, cut mark on back of head and right thumb. A labourer ; supposed a native of Llandewy, Radnorshire. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Bromyard Board of Guardians to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Rogers. Information to Supt. Lewis, Bromyard. HERTFORDSHIRE. 15— Hitchin { County). — For being con- cerned with a man in custody, charged with stealing, at Stevenage, 28th ult., an overcoat ( recovered)— HARRY BARKER, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( supposed cut short) brown, mole on one cheek, right little finger crooked, nail of 2nd right finger discoloured; wearing dark clothes, dark blue overcoat, nearly new, dark plaid wrap, plaid cap, lace boots. A moulder; supposed a native of Manchester. Is well known at Dunstable and Bedford. He may endeavour to dispose of a pawn- ticket relating to a coat which was pledged with Messrs. Morley & Co., pawnbrokers, Hitchin, 28th ult., in name of Harry Barker, 42, Old Park Road, Hitchin. Supposed wanted else- where. 16. — Hitchin { County). — For failing to appear to a summons for an offenco under the Poaching Prevention Act, which he committed 11th September, 1894 — JAMES LOVE RIDGE, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build! complexion fair, hair light brown, several scratches on face and nose ; wearing light fustian clothes. A gipsy. Travels with a small van, drawn by a black pony, white mark on face. Is accompanied by his wife and 3 children. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Rey- nolds, Hitchin. 17 — Watford { County).— For failing to re- port— Supervisee GEORGE WILSON, Office No. 2565— 01, age 41, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, scar on nose and corner of right eye. Sentenced at Birmingham Sessions, 7th January, 1901, to 9 months hard labour and 1 year police supervision for larceny. Liberated 14th September, 1901. 10858. May be dealt with wherever found. W." on front, and " N. B. I. F. C." on back) attached; 1 gold signet ring; and 2 bird claws with red stones— WILLIAM HERBERT, age about 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, moustache grey, several scars on hands and arms; dress, serge coat and vest, grey trousers, black and white scarf, black hard felt hat, sea- men's boots with strap across. A sailmaker. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. 19.— Sandwich { County).— For stealing a silver fish knife and fork— A MAN, who gave the name of DICK MATTHEWS, age about 20, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, oval face, clean shaved, fleshy mark on back of head ; dress, light grey suit, light blue knitted tie, light cap, brown boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Chaney, Sandwich. 20.— Tonbridge { County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— BOB BEANEY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10£ in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue; dress, pepper and salt colour coat, vest, and cap, cord breeches, box- cloth gaiters, black Raglan overGoat. Warrant issued. 21.— Tonbridge { County).— For day poach- ing— HARRY COOPER, age 24 or 25, height about 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes hazel; dressed as a bricklayer's labourer; native of Southborough. Styles, Tonbridge. 22. — Dover { Borough). — On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 7 4s. fine and costs imposed for an offence under the Importation of Dogs' Order, 1897— MAX MILLER, medium height, moustache light, square jaws ; wearing tweed overcoat with cape, bowler hat. Supposed a German. Information to Head Constable Knott, Dover. LANCASHIRE. 23.— Wigan { County).— For obtaining money by false pretences at Pemberton, 20th ult.— C. THOMPSON ( supposed false), age 37, height 6 ft,, complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark brown jacket, blue trousers with light stripe, red silk muffler with white stripes, light brown soft felt hat, lace boots. He represented that he was a photographer's agent, obtained an order, and gave a printed receipt form signed " C. Thompson." Had with him a large frame con- taining the photograph of a child. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cocker, County Police Office, Wigan. 24.— Oldham { Borough). — For embezzle- ment- CLARKSON MINIKIN, alias CHARLIE PRESTON, age 29, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion fair, hair light brown, long moustache sandy, eyes ( full) blue, leans forward when walk- ing, turns his toes slightly inwards, hurried gait, is fond of billiards; dress, dark grey overcoat, dark grey jacket and vest, black trousers, black tie with white spots, black billycock hat, lace boots. Supposed a native of Leeds. Has been employed as a collector and traveller to a firm of clothiers. Absconded 7th inst. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Chief Constable Turner, Oldham NORFOLK. 25.— Norwich { City).— For obtaining goods by false pretences— CLAUD HAROLD RUDD RAMSBOTTOM, age 20, height 5 ft. 2 in, com- plexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue ; dress, black morning coat and vest, light trousers, white tie, black hard hat, lace boots. A native of Norwich! Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall Norwich. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 26.— Kettering { County).— For embezzling £ 5, 8th October last, at Rothwell— ARTHUR KERRY, age about 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, slight moustache light, eyes grey, nose has been broken and inclines to one side, 1 false front tooth, addicted to drink ; dress, black coat and vest, old grey trousers,. brown cap, black tie, old dust overcoat, lace boots. A surveyor's assistant. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrews, Kettering. SUFFOLK ( East). 27.— Ipswich { Borough).— For obtaining £ 14 by false pretences, in August last— G. L. CALVER, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in, weight 9 stones, complexion fair, hair light, moustache pointed ; dress, blue serge lounge suit, A foundry- man ; native of Ipswich. Has served with the Suffolk Regiment in South Africa. Is accom- panied by a woman, age 22, short and dark. May be found at Bristol or Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Lieut.- Col. Russell, Chief Con- stable, Ipswich. SUFFOLK ( West). 28 .— Mildenhall { County).— For failing to surrender to his bail, charged with fraud— SAM MANN, age 50, height 5 ft. 10 in, slightly round shoulders, complexion sallow, hair, moustache and side whiskers dark, eyes dark brown, speaks with American accent, turns his toes inwards; dress, blue Melton overcoat, black velvet collar, dark tweed reefer jacket, red cashmere vest, blue and white spots, white buttons flowered with gold, grey tweed breeches, brown leather leggings, black soft felt hat, lace boots. Attends race meetings. He represented himself as an owner and trainer of racehorses. Had in his possession cards with " Sam Mann, Trainer and Commission Agent" thereon. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heigham, Mildenhall. SURREY. 29.— Hersham { County).— On commitment warrant for assault— JOHN DAY, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 in, complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes grey. A labourer; native of Walton- on- Thames. May seek employment on public works. Absconded 8th July last. Information to Supt. Boon, Hersham. SUSSEX ( East). 30.— Eastbourne { Borough).— For stealing, 28th ult, a lady's Mizpah ring, worn ; 1 do. 9 ct. gold dress ring, set cluster of 5 red stones, pearl in centre, 3 small pearls each side of cluster ( 2 pearls and 1 red stone missing); and £ 1 4s.— A MAN, who gave the name of BEN DERMOTT, age about 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in, slight build, complexion fair, thin face, hair and slight moustache dark, eyes rather sunken ; dress, bluish- grey square cut jacket suit, white wrap with blue spots or blue and white stripes, black soft felt hat, lace boots. Stated he had served in the Army. He left behind a nearly new pair of white buckskin gloves; 1 pair of spurs ; 1 hair brush, " E. Denmont" or " E. Den- mond " stamped on handle. Was accompanied by a woman, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 3 in, slight build, complexion pale, thin features, hair ( short) dark ; dress, three- quarter sealskin jacket with high collar, trimmed fur, black dress, pale blue blouse, black sailor hat, rather broad brim, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Major Teale, Chief Constable, Eastbourne. 31.— Hove { Borough).— For non- payment of maintenance arrears— CHARLES CAVAYE, alias WILLIAMS, FERGUSON and FRASER, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 in, complexion fresh, hair dark, moustache dark brown, eyes grey, pointed nose; dress, dark blue serge suit, grey Scotch plaid cap, brown boots. A horticulturist; native of Edin- burgh. Is accompanied by a woman, age about 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in, complexion fresh, hair light, mole on left cheek ; wearing darK clothes. A native of Cambridge. Warrant issued. 32.— Hove { Borough).— For deserting his wife and child, leaving them chargeable to the Steyning Union— JAMES ARTHUR YOUNG, age 23, height about 5 ft. 9 in, slight build, com plexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache light, eyes ( small and peculiar looking) light; dress, old dark clothes, black bowler hat. A betting man ; supposed a native of London. Warrants issued. 31.— C Division.— For stealing £ 33 12s.— GEORGE WILLIAM WEBB, age 18, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel. A native of Margate. Warrant issued. WARWICKSHIRE. 35.— Aston Manor [ County').— For em- bezzling £ 8, 5th inst.— HENRY HANSON, age 35, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin sharp features, hair dark brown, moustache light brown, eyes grey, of good address. Supposed a native of London. Stated he had been employed as a vanman to a firm of furniture removal contractors at Islington. Warrant issued. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 83.— f Division.— 7th inst., by burglary, two chased silver tankards, flat tops, one stands on 3 feet, coin let in top, other has no base, English Hall mark 1688; 2 small silver sweet dishes, plain in centre, figured outside; 5 silver dessert forks, ribbed handles; 7 ditto knives; 2 round silver waiters, plain centre, chased flowers around edge, Gilbert Hall mark scratched on bottom ; 1 glass claret decanter, wide silver band, round top, silver handle, small silver band near bottom; 2 old French fans with ivory frames and figures in gold or silver gilt with satin mounts, figures painted thereon ; 1 heavy enamelled key, grey colour, unscrews in centre, lower part opens ; 1 Russian platina mug, inlaid alternate dull and bright parts; j 4 small silver toys, including a small chair and milk can ; 1 pickle fork with pearl handle; 1 black silk umbrella, ribbed handle with silver tip ; 1 black bowler hat, " C.
