All announcement* for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE. NEW SCOTLAND YAED, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in o/ u issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable' action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen a rticle. 6. Beery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than. Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in ttu next- issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than / won o/ i Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotlattd Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Offiee Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. E. R. HENBY, Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. : . The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1.— Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery ot property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibite 1. with the sanction of the Commis- sioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points :— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( J) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The name and address of the person by whom it will be paid. ( d) The name and address of the printer must appear thereon. 2.— No exDression must be used in such an advertisement, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdine out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularlydirected to the conditions ( a) to ( d), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c). Such notices are not distributed. NOTE.— There are 190 Stations of the Metro- politan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1 — B Division.— REGINALD WESTLEY HAYDEN, Case No. 32, 22nd ult., committed suicide. 2.— V Division.— For obtaining 18s. 6d. by a worthless cheque on the London and South Western Bank, Harlesden Branch — ERNEST CLARKE, age about 37, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion sallow, thin face, hair dark brown ; dress, dark suit and cap. A native of London, late a corporal of the 7th Fusiliers. He called on loser and stated that her master had sent him with the cheque which she was to change. Warrant issued. BEDFORDSHIRE. &.— Biggleswade ( County). — For em- bezzling £ 80 3s. 6d., 29th September last— WIL- LIAM COUSINS, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion sallow, full face, hair, moustache, and eyes black ; dress, brown lounge suit, hard hat. A native of Langford. Was employed as an assistant overseer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Baldwin, Biggleswade. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 4.— Conway ( County). — For stealing a violin KASTEN, a German, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft, 9 in., hair ( inclined to curl) light, eyes blue, speaks good English ; wearing a black over- coat and soft felt hat. A musician ; will no doubt seek employment at theatres or music halls. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rees, Conway. CHESHIRE. 5. — Dukin field ( County). — MICHAEL MCCARTY, Office No. 332- 01, Case No. 6, 1st March, 1901, not to be apprehended. DERBYSHIRE. 6.— Ashbourne ( County). — For horse- stealing— A MAN, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache and whiskers sandy, turning grey, carries his head forward, speaks slowly; dress, dark grey suit, rather large pockets to coat, black hard hat. Appearance of a farmer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Burford, Ashbourne. 7.— Eckington ( County). — For stealing, 28th ult., at Killamarsh, a silver English lever watch, rather large numerals, " J. Lawton" scratched on case — JOHN BAILEY, alias BISHOP, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion, hair, and slight moustache dark, rather large front teeth, slightly deaf, of delicate health ; dress, black coat, moleskin trousers, dark cap, strong boots. A labourer; native of Mansfield, Notts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Talbot, Eckington, near Sheffield. 8 - Matlock Bridge ( County).—¥ or stealing a gold diamond ring, snake pattern, set 3 diamonds; 1 lady's gold ring, set 3 diamonds and 3 sapphires; 1 gold medal, dated 1898 or 1878, 14th October, " Presented to Mr. Otter by R. Fawcett for his gentlemanly manner and his good performances as an artist," name " Otter " in centre thereon ; and £ 10 15s.— LEWIS WIL- LIAM CREUSHAW, a negro, age about 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion, hair and eyes black ; wearing a long check overcoat, soft hat. States he is a native of America. Travels the country with a circus or show. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hollingworth, Matlock Bridge. ESSEX. 9.— Castle Hedingham ( County). — For assault on police, 15th ult. — REUBEN SHEARMAN, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., thick set, slightly round shoulders, stoops when walking, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown ; wearing grey cloth trousers and vest. A native of Steeple Bumpstead. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Wapling, Castle Hed- ingham. FLINTSHIRE. 10.— Holywell ( County).— For obtaining money by a worthless cheque — FRANCIS OLIVER, age 40 to 45, height about 6 ft., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, beard cropped short; dress, grey jacket suit, yellow leather leggings, check cap. HERTFORDSHIRE. 12— Hitchin ( County). — For being con- cerned with a man in custody, charged with stealing, at Stevenage, 28th nit., an overcoat frecovered)— HARRY BARKER, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair fsupposed cut short) brown, mole on one cheek, right little finger crooked, nail of 2nd right finger discoloured; wearing dark clothes, dark blue overcoat, nearly new, dark plaid wrap, plaid cap, lace boots. A moulder; supposed a native of Manchester. Is well known at Dunstable and Bedford. He may endeavour to dispose of a pawn- ticket relating to a coat which was pledged with Messrs. Morley & Co., pawnbrokers, Hitchin, 28th ult., in name of Harry Barker, 42, Old Park Road, Hitchin. Supposed wanted else- where. 13. — Hitchin ( County). — For failing to appear to a summons for an offence under the Poaching Prevention Act, which he committed 11th September, 1894- JAMES LOYERIDGE, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, several scratches on face and nose ; wearing light fustian clothes. A gipsy. Travels with a small van, drawn by a black pony, white mark on face. Is accompanied by his wife and 3 children. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Rey nolds, Hitchin. Sentenced at Bedford Quarter Sessions 17th January, 1900, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for larceny, also at Northampton Quarter Sessions, 4th January, 1901, to 12 months hard labour for larceny, and liberated 19th ult. 490. FLANNIGAN, TIMMINS, PHILIP EDWARDS, JAMES TIMONS, KERR, and MICHAEL GOD FREY, Office No. 3164- 01, age 51, height 5 ft. 7£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes dark grey, indistinct marks and J right forearm, lost tip of 3rd left finger, high forehead, prominent cheek bones. Sentenced at Leicester Quarter Sessions 26th June, 1894, to 7 years penal servitude for larceny ( person). Liberated on 2nd licence 18th ult. M U 686. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Liverpool. 20.— Salford ( Borough).— For failing to report, Licence- holder ANNIE WHITTAKER, alias MARIA WHITTAKER and ANN GARDINER, Office No. 3084- 01, age 49, height 5 ft., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar left eyebrow ; chest and lower lip, abscess scars under right arm, nose broken, vari- cose veins both legs. A native of Pendleton, Lanes. Sentenced at Blackburn Quarter Sessions, 20th October, 1899, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 9th November, 1901. K. Z. 16. NORFOLK. 21.— Norwich ( City).— For obtaining goods by false pretences— CLAUD HAROLD RUDD RAMSBOTTOM, age 20, height 5 ft. 2 in., com- plexion fresh, hair light, eyes blue ; dress, black morning coat and vest, light trousers, white tie, black hard hat, lace boots. A native of Norwich. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Norwich. OXFORDSHIRE. 22.— Oxford ( City).— For stealing ( bailee), 28th October last, a bicycle ( recovered) — G. DARBY, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair and moustache dark. Supposed recently employed at a Music Hall at Lincoln. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Oxford. KENT. lb.— Sandwich ( County).— For stealing a silver fish knife and fork— A MAN, who gave the name of DICK MATTHEWS, age about 20, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, oval face, clean shaved, fleshy mark on back of head ; dress, light grey suit, light blue knitted tie, light cap, brown boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Chaney, Sandwich. 16.— Tonbridge ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— BOB BEANEY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue; dress, pepper and salt colour coat, vest, and cap, cord breeches, box- cloth gaiters, black Raglan overcoat. Warrant issued. 17.— Tonbridge ( County).— For day poach- ing— HARRY COOPER, age 24 or 25, height about 5 ft. 6£ in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes hazel; dressed as a bricklayer's labourer; native of Southborough. j[ ^ Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 18.— Wigan ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences at Pemberton, 20th ult.— C THOMPSON ( supposed false), age 37, height 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark brown jacket, blue trousers with light stripe, red silk muffler with white stripes, light brown soft felt hat, lace boots. He represented that he was a photographer's agent, obtained an order, and gave a printed receipt form signed " C Thompson." Had with him a large frame taining the photograph of a child. Cocker, County Police Office, Wigan. 1 Liverp OOl ( City).— For failing to re- port— Licence- holder FREDERICK WILLIAMS alias JAMES TIMMONS, SIMMONS, McCANN,' con SUFFOLK ( West). 27.— Mildenhall '.( County).— For failing to surrender to his bail, charged with fraud— SAM MANN, age 50, height 5 ft. 10 in., slightly round shoulders, complexion sallow, hair, moustache and side whiskers dark, eyes dark brown, speaks with American accent, turns his toes inwards; dress, blue Melton overcoat, black velvet collar, dark tweed reefer jacket, red cashmere vest, blue and white spots, white buttons flowered with gold, grey tweed breeches, brown leather leggings, black soft felt hat, lace boots. Attends race meetings. He represented himself as an owner and trainer of racehorses. Had in his possession cards with " Sam Mann, Trainer and Commission Agent" thereon. Warrant issued. STAFFORDSHIRE. 23.— Burslem ( County).— For assault, 16th ult., at Norton- in- the- Moors — WILLIAM GEE, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark, heavy moustache, blue coal scars on face ; dress, dark cloth jacket and vest, moleskin or striped cloth trousers, silk neckerchief, cap with knot at top, lace boots. A miner; native of Biddulph. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem. 24.— Hanley ( Borough).— For failing to re port— Supervisee ROBERT THOMAS, Office No. 841- 00, age 35, height 5 ft. 3J in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, 98, Staffordshire knot with girl under, left arm, bust of female' left wrist, cut scar right of forehead. A collier; native of Mow Cop, Stafford. Sentenced at Hanley Sessions, 30th June, 1899, to 10 months hard labour and 5 years police supervision for larceny. Liberated 31st March, 1900. 1595. SUFFOLK ( East). 25.— Halesworth ( County). — For obtain- ing money by false pretences at Southwold, 7th ult. — GEORGE WILSON, alias DARBY, STACEY, & c., age 64 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, high cheek bones, prominent nose, a sailor with outstretched arms standing on top of 3 steps tattooed on back of right hand, 3rd and 4th fingers deformed, sailor holding a glass in right hand, pipe in left hand, J. C. in circle between legs, left forearm, anchor and rope back of left hand, 3rd and 4th fingers deformed, abscess scar on left leg, small red spots on body ; dress, blue cloth jacket suit and cap. A native of Beccles. Appearance of a seafaring man. Has been previously convicted. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrews, Halesworth. 26 .— Ipswich ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 14 by false pretences, in August last— G. L CALVER, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., weight 9 stones, complexion fair, hair light, moustache pointed ; dress, blue serge lounge suit. A foundry- man ; native of Ipswich. Has served with the Suffolk Regiment in South Africa. Is accom- panied by a woman, age 22, short and dark. May be found at Bristol or Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Lieut.- Col. Russell, Chief Con- stable, Ipswich. SURREY. 28. — Chertsey ( County). — WILLIAM PIDGEON, Case No. 40, 4th October last, not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. 29.— Hersham ( County).— On commitment warrant for assault— JOHN DAY, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes grey. A labourer; native of Walton- on- Thames. May seek employment on public works. Absconded 8th July last. 30.— Hersham ( County).— For embezzle- ment— DOUGLAS, alias WILLIAM JOLLY, age 23, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue. A baker's assistant; native of Albury, Surrey. May endeavour to enlist. Ab- sconded 21st October last. Warrant issued. 31 .— Hersham ( County). — For deserting their wives and families, leaving them chargeable to the common funds of the Chertsey Union— GEORGE DAY, alias SWANNY, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair light brown. A labourer; native of Hersham. May seek em- ployment on public works.— ARTHUR BLACK- LOCK, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, broad forehead, hair light brown, moustache light, eyes blue. A greengrocer ; native of Hersham. Absconded about 15th September last. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Boon, Hersham. SUSSEX ( East). 32.— Brighton ( Borough). — For stealing ( bailee), 20th August last, a horse ( recovered) ; a set of black leather harness, white metal fittings ; and a canoe- shape landau, painted dark red, picked out light red, crossed springs behind, lined blue cloth, plain door handle, morocco covered cushions, oval lamps. The landau and harness was sold on the same date.— THOMAS POTTER, age, 50 to 55, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( turning grey) dark, stoops slightly. A cabman. Information to Chief Constable Gentle, Brighton. 33.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For stealing, 28th ult., a lady's Mizpah ring, worn ; 1 do. 9 ct. gold dress ring, set cluster of 5 red stones, pearl in centre, 3 small pearls each side of cluster^ pearls and 1 red stone missing); and £ 1 4s.— A MAN, who gave the name of BEN DERMOTT, age about 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion fair, thin face, hair and slight moustache dark, eyes rather sunken ; dress, bluish- grey square cut jacket suit, white wrap with blue spots or blue and white stripes, black soft felt hat, lace boots. Stated he had served in the Army. He left behind a nearly new pair of white buckskin gloves ; 1 pair of spurs ; 1 hair brush, " E. Denmont" or " E. Den- mond " stamped on handle. Was accompanied by a woman, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin features, hair ( short) dark; dress, three- quarter sealskin jacket with high collar, trimmed fur, black dress, pale blue blouse, black sailor hat, rather broad brim, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Major Teale, Chief Constable, Eastbourne. 34.— Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing a horse, harness, and carriage ( recovered)— JAMES JONES, age about 48, height 5 ft. 11 in., stiff build, square shoulders, complexion fresh, hair ( curly) dark, side whiskers; dress, brown over- coat, light jacket and vest, blue Cardigan jacket, grey trousers, blue tie, coaching hat, Brighton shape, heavy lace boots. A card sharp.— WILLIAM HAINES STYLES, alias STRIPES, age 36, height 5ft. 10in., slight build, complexion fresh, sharp features, hair brown, long moustache sandy; dresses well. A bettirg man; supposed a native of London. Warrants issued. 36.— C Division.— For stealing £ 33 12s.— GEORGE WILLIAM WEBB, age 18, height 5 ft, 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes hazel. A native of Margate. Warrant issued. WARWICKSHIRE. 37. — Stratford- on- A von { County). — For larceny, 27th October last — GEORGE MULLIS, alias BENDY TRINDER, age 27, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar right side of forehead and right forearm. A native of Leamington. Warrant issued. 38. — Stratford- on- Avon ( County).— For larceny— ARTHUR WELLESLEY LOUCH, age 63, height 5 ft. 7 in., round shoulders, stoops, complexion dark, hair ( bald), moustache and eyes grey, is suffering from heart disease ; dress, dark jacket and vest, grey trousers, black overcoat, black hard felt hat. A native of Stratford- on- Avon. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lambourne, Stratford- on- Avon.
