All annoutwemei. ts for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should he addressed to THE EDITOR oi' THE POLICE GAZETTE. NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought trill he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enuble the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 1. TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of iwt lets rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number and as far us practicable, they are alphubetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the • next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be ivholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, a/ ul the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. E. R. HENRY, Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. THE Metropolitan Police still continue to receive numerous complaints about a dealer in dogs named ASTORIA, of 52 Maida Yale, London, N. W. ( See POLICE GAZETTE, NO. 1510, 17th of June, 1898, and No. 1748, 28th of September, 1900). He now gives the name of L. CLEMENT, 18 Beak Street, Regent Street, W., and 41 Wych Street, Strand, and succeeds in obtaining dogs from many persons in the provinces. Unless process can be obtained against him for fraud, the Police cannot assist, and action should be taken in the County Court. ( C. I. D. Corre- spondence, 113155). APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 12.— Cambridge { Borough).— For stealing, 29th August last, a " Popular Riley," Brooks's saddle, front brake, no mudguards— CHARLES PEARSON, alias BURROWS, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes brown, pimples on face, speaks with Yorkshire accent; dress, grey jacket suit, black soft felt hat, lace boots. He represents that he is the son of the Clerk of the Peace of Cambridge. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. DEVONSHIRE. 18.— Exeter { County).— For arson, at Chaw- leigh, 14th ult.— ROBERT LUCAS, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, wart over right eye and on right thumb, 2 scars back of left leg, has varicocele; dress, light coat and cap, cord trousers. A tramping labourer ; native of Bagber, Dorset. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. 19.— Exeter ( City).— For stealing £ 12— JOHN HENRY DALE, age 19 or 20, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion fair, thin face, hair dark brown, Roman nose, upper front teeth missing, rati-" r dsaf, speaks quietly; dress, blue serge suit, chick cap, had with him a brown leather portmanteau. A confectioner ; native of Dransful, Derby. May be found at Church Army Homes. Absconded 30th September. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Exeter. 20 — Devonport ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence- holder ALFRED GILL, alias JOHN CLARK and ALFRED DAVIS, Office No. 2548- 01, age 52, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair grey ( bald), eyes blue, scar centre of forehead and back of neck, burn scar below right knee. A fireman ; native of Cargreen, Cornwall. Sentenced at Bodmin Assizes, 13th June, 1899, to 3 years penal servitude for curtilage breaking and larceny. Licenced 13th September, 1901. HZ 594. DURHAM. 21.— Sunderland ( Borough).— For em- bezzlement— WILLIAM SHARP, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair brown, slight moustache light, 1 or 2 upper teeth deficient, walks indolently ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, dark tie, black soft felt hat, tan colour boots. Is accompanied by his wife, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion pale, long thin face, hair brown, 3 upper teeth missing ; wearing dark clothes and sailor hat; and a child, age 18 months. Warrant issued. 26.— Watford ( County). — For embezzle- ment— A. WILLIAMS, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair brown, wears glasses, turns his feet outwards; dress, dark clothes. A native of London. Warrant issued. 27.— Watford ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, a steel grey Raglan coat, lined Italian cloth, vertical pockets, black bone buttons — E. J. EDWARDS, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, rather large nose. He represents himself to be a clergyman. Warrant issued. KENT. 28.— West Mailing ( County).— For desert- ing her two children at Snodland— CAROLINE DRUBE, age 30, height 4 ft. 10 in., complexion dark, h ur black, artificial teeth ; dress, black jacket and skirt, coloured blouse, white sailor hat. Was last heard of at Brighton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hoare, West Mailing. 29.— Dover ( Borough). — For obtaining £ 3 10s. by a worthless cheque, No. B/ E/ 20814, on Parr's Bank, dated 23rd August last, purporting to be drawn by John Turner, in favour of J. Edwards— J. EDWARDS ( supposed false), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft, 8 or 9 in., hair brown, moustache light, nose rather long and thin; wearing dark clothes, grey soft felt hat. Appear- ance of a commercial traveller. Is identical with John Powell, Case No. 61, 25th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Knott, Dover. LANARKSHIRE. 30.— Glasgow ( City).— For failing to report — Supervisee GEORGE HARRIS, alias JOHN GOLDING, Office No. 3766- 99, age 27, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, anchor and heart above left, cross and dot above right wrist, mole above inner angle left eyebrow. A dealer; native of London. Sentenced at South London Sessions, 13th May, 1896, to 3 years penal servitude and 3 years police supervision for larceny ( person) W 188. Reported at Glasgow, 30th August last, his intention of proceeding to Liverpool. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 31.— Chorley ( County).— For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences, 15th ult.— A MAN, who gave the name of KILLICK, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, round face, hair black, clean shaved, eyes dark ; dress, grey plaid suit, light check cap, white tie, canvas shoes. Stated he was a native of Crewe. He took lodgings, obtained money for the purpose of fetching his luggage from the railway station, and decamped. Supposed previously convicted and wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. 32.— Hurst ( County).— For stealing a gold watch and chain ( recovered), and £ 2 13s.— A MAN, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion, hair ( turning grey), and heavy moustache dark, low forehead, large nose; dress, brown overcoat, dark suit, blue tie, black billy- cock hat, lace boots. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst, near Ashton- under- Lyne. 33.— Skerton ( County).— For obtaining 100 geese by false pretences, at Morecambe— A MAN, who gave the name of J. T. INGHAM, age about 52, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, clean shaved, one forefinger stiff, speaks with Lancashire dialect; dress, grey jacket, dark trousers, silk neckerchief, light cap. A hawker, maybe found at Public Markets. He represented himself as a poultry dealer. Had in his possession bill headings with " J. T. Ingham, Fish, Game and Poultry Dealer, & c., Middlesborough " thereon, supposed a long firm swindler. Is accompanied by his wife, age about 50, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, several old scars on face; wearing double breasted J heliotrope colour jacket, with large buttons, black sailor hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barnett, Skerton, near Lancaster. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. 31.— Daventry ( County).— For stealing £ 13 from his lodgings, 14th ult. — WILLIAM EDMUND HAMES, age about 42, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion pale, hair ( turning grey, bald on top) and moustache brown, walks lame, one knee- cap fractured; dress, light plaid jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, dark blue tie with white spots, black Cashmere peak cap, new lace shoes. A painter. Warrant issued. I Information to Inspector Webster, Daventry. 14.— Nantwioh ( County).— For being con- cerned with ARTHUR LAMBERT, in custody, charged with stealing £ 9 Is. 4d., 24th ult., from a Post Office at Crewe ( see Case No. 58)— TWO MEN, lst, age about 19, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion and hair dark, of smart appearance ; dress, dark grey suit, red tie, dark cap, tan colour boots. 2nd, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, thin features, rather broad fore- head, clean shaved, of smart appearance ; dress, dark blue or black suit, dark tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. 15.— Nantwioh ( County). — For stealing, 26th ult., at Crewe, a new blue pilot reefer coat, with velvet collar, body lined with light tweed, sleeves with white calico, large pocket inside— DAVID WILLIAMS, alias WOOD and TIVET, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion pale, thin features, hair and heavy moustache brown, recent cut mark over left eye; dress, old dark suit. A native of Crewe. Had the appear- ance of a labourer. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Meredith, Nantwich. DENBIGHSHIRE. 16.— D O n big h ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a watch ( recovered)— JAMES COOPER, age 30 to 32, height about 5 ft. 8 in., muscular build, complexion fresh, hair and heavy mous- tache light, scar across abdomen ; dress, light jacket and cap, light cord trousers, strong lace boots, may be wearing a cord vest. A tramping farm labourer. Supposed a native of Cockermouth. Has served in the Army. Absconded 3rd ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Denbigh. HAMPSHIRE. 22.— Basingstoke ( County).— For embez- zlement— WILLIAM HOWARD, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache brown ; dress, dark suit, grey tie with moonstone pin, black hard felt hat, or white straw hat with brown leather band ; wear- ing a gold watch and chain, small cross attached. Stated he was a native of Cardiff. Was employed as a local agent to a London firm for the sale of their musical instruments. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hale, Basingstoke. 23.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to their recognisances at Quarter Sessions, 22nd ult.— WILLIAM BARTLETT, age 21, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, 2 crosses, anchor indistinct, left forearm, and square with dots at corners left upper arm. An engineer; native of Notting Hill, London. Is a deserter from the Royal Field Artillery, Woolwich.— GEORGE ASQUITH, POWER, age 66, height 5 ft. 5J in., stout build, complexion fresh, oval face, hair ( bald on top) and moustache grey, eyes hazel, scars back of neck, large scar on right shin. A dealer in jewellery; native of London. Has been pre- viously convicted. Warrant issued. 24.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his recognisance at Quarter Sessions on 19th July last— ERNEST BRIDGER, age 21, height 5 ft. 11| in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A prostitute ; native of Montaigut, France. Description of property :— About 40 scarf- pins ( including 1 extra large round pearl; 1 triangle shape diamond, with round pearl pendant attached; 1 large triang'o shape sapphire, surrounded with dia- monds ; 1 small pear shape pearl, set in platinum ; 3 composed of a circle of diamonds and obverse side composed of circle of sapphires, rubies, and emeralds; 1 similar made in tur- quoise ; 1 large heart shape diamond, surrounded with rubies) ; about 40 gentlemen's gold rings, all very small ( 1 set very fine uncut ruby and old brilliant; 1 set 1 sapphire, ruby, and emerald ; 1 set 1 ruby, sapphire, and brilliant; 1 platinum, set yellow diamond between 2 extra white fine diamonds ; 1 set large uncut emerald; 1 set large uncut ruby ; 1 large black enamel, set 2 large diamonds; 1 set large heart shape diamond ; 1 set emerald); about 30 charms, set precious stones ( 1 about the size of a 5s.- piece, set sapphires and diamonds, in shape of a shamrock ; 1 shape of elephant, 1 shape of swan, each set pearls and diamonds); about 12 sets of 6 fancy dress buttons, all set precious stones ; 1 set of 3 studs, composed of black diamonds, surrounded with small diamonds ; 1 pair of cat's- eye sleeve- links, surrounded with diamonds; and about 20 other pairs of sleeve- links, set precious stones ; 6 gold watches ; 1 chain, about 12 in. long, composed of diamonds, set in platinum; 1 black steel do., mounted white pearls.
