Announcements concerning stolen property mux' be guuranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprelumled or of stolen property bear a number, and. as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request far the insertion of any announcement will h. wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only : they must be in the usual form, ami accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. The aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries respecting the antecedents of prisoners under re- mand, and such inquiries often result in identi- fying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be com- plied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that four clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind, to complete the inquiries asked for.
