All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken uvon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must, be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of pvsons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15i. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension, of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed I g the chief officer of police, or h is immediate d, ruse may be. ! deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the LTI O 3W S. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must he guaranteed by an officer of not leu rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprclu ndcil or of stolen property bear a number, and, us far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, ut once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will lr wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to he received not later that• noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must he clearly written on one xidc of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Lists of all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. The same course will be followed with respect to property lost and persons missing. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRIOT 1.— J Division.— For stealing a piano— WILLIAM THOMPSON, age about 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark; dress, dark suit, soft felt hat. He obtained the piano on the hire purchase system. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 2.— J Division.— For embezzlement— T. LEVIE or LEVY, a Swede, age about 27, height 5 ft., complexion, hair and heavy moustache dark, fleshy growth under chin ; dress, black serge suit, white straw hat with black band, brown boots. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 3. — K Division. — For embezzling £ 5, 8th inst.— EIVIND FEILBERG, a Norwegian, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair light, eyes grey; dress, black frock coat, fancy pattern vest, striped trousers, black hard felt hat. Absconded 8th inst. Warrant issued. 4.— S Division.— For embezzling £ 10, 9th nit.— BENJAMIN CHARLES CLARK, age 35, height about 5 ft. 9£ in., complexion, hair ( short), and eyes dark, high forehead, pointed chin ; dress, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat. CITY OF LONDON. 5.— For fraud— CARL PETENSEN SEKJER, a Dane, late of Effra Road, Brixton, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair and very slight moustache light, several scars on right cheek ; dress, black double breasted jacket suit with thin light stripes. BERKSHIRE. 6.— Wokingham { County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a light brown wooden box, 31 in. by 18 in. ; a lady's pneumatic bicycle, front forks bent; 1 pair of blue and white vases— CHARLIE SIMPSON, alias NASH, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion very dark, hair ( curly on fore- head) black, slight moustache dark, eyes dark ; dress, light grey jacket and vest, dark large ribbed cord breeches, navy blue cloth cap, black leather leggings, brown lace boots. A groom ; native of Hampshire. Was accompanied by a woman, age 34, height 4 ft. 6 to 8 in., complexion ( freckled) fair, hair light brown; drees, black dress, black straw hat, trimmed black, lace boots, a native of Finchampstead ; and a child, age 7 years, com- plexion fair, hair light, ejes grey; dress, white dress, navy blue jacket, white buttons, white straw hat with pink band, lace boots. BRECONSHIRE. 7.— Brecon { County).— For deserting his wife, leaving her chargeable to the Brecon Union — WILLIAM WILLIAMS, age 43, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, mous- tache sandy, eyes hazel, addicted to drink ; dress, dark reefer jacket and vest, cord trousers, hard felt hat, lace boots. A mason or bricklayer; native of Brecon. ( See Case No. 3, 30th March, 1900.) Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Joseph, Brecon. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 8.— Aylesbury { County).— For obtaining money by fraud— F. FITZGERALD ( supposed false), age about 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair light, clean shaved, artificial left arm ; dress, navy blue serge jacket suit, blue cap, had with him a dark overcoat. He takes lodgings, advertises canaries, ferrets, & c., for sale through the Feathered World and Exchange and Mart, receives remittances and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. CHESHIRE. 9.— Liscard { County).— For embezzling £ 5 at Seacombe, 9th April.— ALFRED BOOTH, age about 29, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown; dress, greenish tweed suit ( square cut jacket), black hard felt hat, Uace boots. A native of Hyde, near Manchester. Was employed as manager to a bill posting company. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. DEVONSHIRE. 10.— Devonport { Borough).— For deserting his wife and children — ALBERT EUGINE SMITH, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion and slight moustache dark, hair black, ej- es brown, bottom lip very thick, cut scar left third finger; dress, brown coat and vest, black trousers, military shirt and boots, brown cap. A labourer. May seek employment as a cab driver, or endeavour to enlist. May be found at common lodging- houses. Warrant issued. J. Riddley"; 1 white cotton table cloth — A WOMAN, acre about 35, tall, rather stout build, com- plexion swarthy, hair dark ; dress, red cape with fur around neck, red dress with white spots, red felt hat. A gipsy fortune- teller, hawks lace. Was accompanied by other gipsies who had with them a grey horse and van. Warrant issued. 12. — South Shields { Borough). — For stealing ( bailee), 26th April last, a watch ( re- covered)— HARRY JAMES JARVIS, age 43, height 5 ft. 4j in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache ginger, crooked nose, eyes blue; shabbily dressed. ( recovered)— JOHN TAYLOR, ago 19, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion, hair, slight moustache, and eyes dark, several pimples on face; dress, dark cloth jacket suit, white sweater, blue cloth P. & 0. cap. A native of Tend ring. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Thorpe. 14.— Colchester { Borough).— For stealing £ 16—- PHILIP MILLARD, alias HORATIO LAWRENCE, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion ruddy, hair ( wavy) dark brown, heavy moustache brown, eyes ( full) dark, wears gold rimmed glasses, carries his head to the left, indented scar ( size of a sixpence) on right cheek near mouth; dress, grey cashmere suit, black bowler hat, Oxford shoes. HAMPSHIRE. 16.— Aldershot { County). — For stealing, 2nd inst., a pneumatic safety bicycle, " Humber " 1900 pattern, black enamelled, usual parts plated, has been' repaired near middle bracket and not re- enamelled, 28 in. frame, " William Shuker" on transfer, straight handle bars, cork grips with white tips, mudguard on each wheel, clockwork bell, Brooks's saddle, pouch containing oil can and spanner, pump attached, " Warwick tyres" engraved thereoni— BENJAMIN BRIDGE, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, grey suit, black tie, dark grey cap, Army boots. A native of Oldbury, Worcestershire. Is a deserter from the 4th Battalion Worcester Regiment. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 17.— Southampton ( Borouqh).— For steal- ing £ 15 from his lodgings, 20th ult.— ALFRED IBERG, age 26 or 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache ( long and curly) light, 2 upper teeth and top of 1 finger missing, flat feet, weak legs; dress, light grey ( double- breasted) suit, white straw hat with black band, patent leather boots. BURNS ( sup posed false), age 68, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, stoops slightly, complexion dark, aquiline nose, hair ( thin and slightly bald), moustacho and beard grey, eyes ( left glass) brown, 3rd and 4th right fingers contracted; dress, dark tweed jacket suit with thin white stripes, dark Chesterfield overcoat, brown soft felt hatj brown spate', lace shoe's. A nativfe of Norwich, He stated that he was a colonel in the army, and that he was employed by the War Office to survey the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. 19.— St. Albans { City).— For stealing a " Humber " bicycle, straight handle bars, frame black enamelled, cream colour wheels, 30- in. front, 28- in. back wheel, Dunlop ' 95 tyres, rubber pedals, brake, no mudguards— A MAN, age about 35, height 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved; dress, long black coat and trousers, soft felt hat. A carman. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, Chatham. LANCASHIRE. 21.— Chorley { County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— A MAN, who gave the name of DR. JUDIFINE or PAUL, age about 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair ( slightly bald on top), and small moustache dark, Jewish accent, of good address; dress, navy blue jacket and vest, black and white striped trousers. He took lodgings and represented that he was a ' medical student. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 22.— Chepstow { County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, a silver watch ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 46, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 in., stout build, complexion pale, hollow cheeks, hair and rather heavy moustache dark, of good address; dress, dark ribbed cloth jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots, carried an umbrella with white metal knob, and a black leather bag. He represented that he was em- ployed by a local watchmaker, and obtained the watch for repair. Is believed to be identical with — SMITH, Case No. 10, 31st ult., and sup- posed wanted elsewhere. NORFOLK. 23— Great Yarmouth { Borough).— For stealing a lady's silver Geneva watch, flowered back and face ; 1 small silver Geneva watch, dark face; and £ 10 10s.— GEORGE PICKERING ( supposed false), age about 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair brown, clean shaved, teeth decayed ; dress, brown dust coat, black suit ( tight fitting trousers), black tie, black hard felt hat with broad brim, brown canvas shoes. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 24.— Northampton { County).— For steal- ing £ 3,22nd ult., at Lamport— A MAN, who gave the name of ANTHONY, age about 29, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark ; dress, light grey coat and vest, dark grey trousers, dark soft felt hat, appearance of a valet. He left behind a bicycle which was afterwards found to have been stolen at Ely, 15th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Webster, County Police Office, Northampton. 25.— | Wellingborough { County). — For obtaining £ 10 10s. by false pretences, 29th ult.— ALFRED C. 1IICKERSON, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion and hair dark, full round face, clean shaved, turns his feet outwards; dress, black suit and cap, check tie. A groom ; native- of Pit. sford. Had in his possession a. blank cheque, No. F 3547 on the Capital and Counties Bank, Northampton Branch. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. OXFORDSHIRE. 2( j.— Deddington { County).— For obtaining an old patent lever watch, bull's eye glass; 1 white metal curb chain, 2 sixpences attached with split rings— A MAN, who gave the name of SMITH, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair and moustache inclined to sandy, walks badly ; wearing dark jacket, black hard felt hat, carried an umbrella and a small black bag containing jewellery and watches. He represented that he was employed by a local watchmaker. See Case No. 10, 31sc ult. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Hope, Deddington. SOMERSETSHIRE. £ 3 REWARD. 27.— Weston- super'Mare { County). — For stealing a Kodak camera ( recovered)— FANNY JACKSON, alias FODEN and NURSE NEARY, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey, left forefinger deficient, usually well dressed. A native of Salford, Lancashire. Has been previously con- victed. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Weston- super- Mare, by whom the above reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of Jackson. S TA FFORDSHIRE. 28. — Stoke- on- Trent { County). — For obtaining 16s. 6d. by false pretences, 20th ult.— — BASSETT ( supposed false), age about 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) sandy, eyes grey; dress, green cloth suit, light colour overcoat, black hat. He pretended to sell an ice cream freezing machine, and received the above amount as payment of the carriage of same. Warrant issued. 29 .— Stoke- on- Trent { County). — For stealing ( bailee) a " James" pneumatic bicycle, 21st ult.— FREDERICK WILSON, age 32, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue ; dress, dark blue cloth suit, brown cap, lace boots. A carman ; native of Manchester, formerly employed as a fireman on the Midland Railway. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gilbride, Stoke- on- Trent. 30 — Stone { County).— For stealing £ 5, 4th inst.— GEORGE BASIL EMERY, alias CLIFFE, SUGAR, GEORGE CADDIE, and NORTON, age 38, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, light bristly moustache, eyes grey, scar on forehead, stammers ; dress, black cardigan jacket, brown cord trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots, all old. A native of Stone; has travelled with circus companies as a labourer, may seek employment at farms. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bishop, Stone. 31.— Tettenhall ( County). — For stealing £ 16, 7th inst., at Penn— A MAN, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, round features, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, brown plaid jacket and vest, cord trousers, black and white plaid cap, lace boots, had in his possession a blue serge suit. A native of Penn, near Wolverhampton. May seek employment at gardens or stables. Information to Supt. Price, Tettenhall. £ 1 REWARD. 32 — Ne wcastle. under- Lyme ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the common fund of the Newcastle- under- Lyme Onion— SAMPSON MIFFLIN, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair ( inclined to curly) brown, bald spot about the size of a shilling back of head, moustache sandy ; dress, brown sacque jacket suit, cap, light lace boots. Appearance of a barman or cellarman. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Newcastle- under- Lyme Union, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Mifflin. 33 .— Newcastle- under- Lyme ( Borough).— For stealing and embezzling several sums of money— FREDERICK WILSON, age 32, height 5 l't. 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache light, eyes blue; dress, dark blue suit, brown cap.
