All announcemei. ts for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communication* relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOK OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one, issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken wvon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to he thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Poi- traits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per pluito- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, m ust be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. LTIOKT S. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they arc alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on tluir apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor iwtice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request fin- the insertion of any announcement trill If wholly responsible for any proceedings u- h ich may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should he forwarded so as to be received not later th" H noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. Th </ must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. Warrant issued. 4.— T Division.— For forging and altering a money order for the payment of £ 10— FERDI- NAND MOORLAND, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, Jewish nose, hair black, eyes dark, prominent teeth, nervous manner, speaks quickly ; dress, grey check tweed suit, dark check tie, black soft felt hat, lace shoes, wearing a yellow metal fob chain. HP obtains a money order for a small amount, alters same, and usually asks a shopkeeper or publican to change it, by giving them an order. Warrant issued. BERKSHIRE. 5.— Wokingham { County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a light brown wooden box, 34 in. by 18 in. ; a lady's pneumatic bicycle, front forks bent; 1 pair of blue and white vases— CHARLIE SIMPSON, alias NASH, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion very dark, hair ( curly on fore- head) black, slight moustache dark, eyes dark ; dress, light grey jacket and vest, dark large ribbed cord breeches, navy blue cloth cap, black leather leggings, brown lace boots. A groom ; native of Hampshire. Was accompanied by a woman, age 34, height 4 ft. 6 to 8 in., complexion ( freckled) fair, hair light brown ; dress, black dress, black straw hat, trimmed black, lace boots. A native of Finchampstead ; and a child, age 7 years, com- plexion fair, hair light, eyes grey; dress, white dress, navy blue jacket, white buttons, white straw hat with pink band, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Molsher, Wokingham. BUCKINGHA MS HI RE. 6.— Aylesbury ( County/).— For obtaining money by fraud— F. FITZGERALD ( supposed false), age about 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair light, clean shaved, artificial left arm ; dress, navy blue serge jacket suit, blue cap, had with him a dark overcoat. He takes lodgings, advertises canaries, ferrets, & c., for sale through the Feathered World and Exchange and Mart, receives remittances and decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Pitson, Aylesbury. 7.— Chesham ( County).— For leaving his children chargeable to the common fund of the Amersham Union — JAMES DARYELL, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair and whiskers dark, turning grey; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, soft felt hat. A labourer; native of Chesham. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Pearman, Chesham. OA MBRIDGESHIRE. 8.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th ult., an " Osmond Road Racer" bicycle, 24 in. frame, black enamelled, usually parts plated, dropped handle bars, nearly new, plain tyres, bell and lamp attached— GEORGE CARR, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, full face, hair dark, clean shaved, hands slightly deformed; wearing naval uniform, " H. M. S. Revenge" on cap. Stated he had served on H. M. S. " Powerful" and that he was present at the Relief of Ladysmith. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge. CHESHIRE. 9 — Liscard ( County).— For embezzling £ 5 at Seacombe, 9th April.— ALFRED BOOTH, age about 29, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown ; dress, greenish tweed suit ( square cut jacket), black hard felt hat, lace boots. A native of Hyde, near Manchester. Was employed as manager to a bill posting company. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Liscard. CUMBERLAND. 10.— Carlisle ( County).— For disobeying an order made under the ( Married Women) Act, 1895 — JONATHAN WATSON, age about 47, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair ( bald on top) and beard on end of chin grey, eyes blue. DEVONSHIRE. 11.— Devonport ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and children — ALBERT EUGINE SMITH, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion and slight moustache dark, hair black, eyes brown, bottom lip very thick, cut scar left third finger; dress, brown coat and vest, black trousers, military shirt and boots, brown cap. A labourer. May seek employment as a cab driver, or endeavour to enlist. May be found at common lodging- houses. Warrant issued. Information to- Head Constable Matters, Devon- port. KENT. 18.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For stealing, 21st ult., a silver watch and chain ( recovered)— A MAN who gave the name of ZENO KOHL- MAN, a Dane, age about 22, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved, rather flat feet; dress, dark brown mixture suit, black hard felt hat with broad brim, old lace boots. Stated he was a photo- grapher. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Reeve, Folke- stone. split rings— A MAN, who gave the name of SMITH, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. G or 7 in., liair and moustache inclined to sandy, walks badly ; wearing dark jacket, black hard felt hat, carried an umbrella and a small black bag containing jewellery and watches. He represented that he was employed by a local watchmaker. See Case No. 10, 31st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Hope, Deddington. SOMERSETSHIRE. £ 3 REWARD. 26.— Weston- super- Mare ( County). — For stealing a Kodak camera ( recovered)— FANNY JACKSON, alias FODEN and NURSE NEA11Y, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes grey, left forefinger deficient, usually well dressed. A native of Salford, Lancashire. Has been previously con- victed. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Weston- super- Mare, by whom the above reward will be paid to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension of Jackson. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. £ 1 REWARD. 27.— Ne wcastle. under- Lyme ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the common fund of the Newcastle- under- Lyme Onion— SAMPSON MIFFLIN, age 32, height 5 ft, 6 or 7 in., hair ( inclined to curly) brown, bald spot about the size of a shilling back of head, moustache sandy ; dress, brown sacque jacket suit, cap, light lace boots. Appearance of a barman or cellarman. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Newcastle- under- Lyme Union, to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Mifflin. 2&.— Newca s tie - unde r- L ym e ( Borough).— For obtaining money by false pre- tences— Supervisee ROBERT HIGGINBOTTOM, Office No. 20- 01, age 43, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, right leg has been broken, varicose veins left leg, scar on forehead. A commission agent; native of Warrington. Sentenced at Here- ford, 2nd July, 1900, to 6 months imprisonment and 5 years police supervision for fraud. Pre- viously convicted at Stafford and Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- under- Lyme. 29.— Wolverhampton ( Borough). — For failing to report — Licence- holder THOMAS JONES, alias RICHARD MORAN, Office No. 1365- 01, age 39, height 5 ft. 4j in., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes light hazel, tattooed outside left forearm, scar outside left finger, back of right ring finger, nose, right side of forehead, and out- side angle left eyebrow. A labourer. Sentenced at Stafford Assizes, on the 1st December, 1898, to 7 years penal servitude for attempted buggery. Licenced 27th May, 1901. Y 440. Information to Capt. SUFFOLK ( West). 30. — Bury- St.- Edmunds ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 23rd ult., a pony, cart and harness ( recovered)— ARTHUR DUFFIELD, age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion and hair dark, moustache brown; dress, black coat and vest, brown trousers, white tie, black soft felt hat, patent leather shoes. A native of Great Yarmouth.— JOHN WALKER, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved ; dress, black coat and vest, dark blue trousers, dark cap, may be wearing a brown ( tight fitting) coat. A barman ; native of Lowestoft. They attend markets and offer for sale medicines, corn cure, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Emmerson, Bury- St.- Edmunds. SURREY. SI.— Chertsey ( County).— F or deserting his children, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Chertsey Union, 15th ult. — STEPHEN PARSONS, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion dark, thin features, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark, eyes hazel; dress, dark clothes and cap. An iron- monger's labourer ; was a member of the Chertsey Harriers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hackman, Chertsey. V ESSEX. 12.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing £ 16— PHILIP MILLARD, alias HORATIO LAWRENCE, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build,' complexion ruddy, hair ( wavy) dark brown, heavy moustache brown, eyes ( full) dark, wears gold rimmed glasses, carries his head to the left, indented scar ( size of a sixpence) on right cheek near mouth; dress, grey cashmere suit, black bowler hat, Oxford shoes. A solicitor's clerk. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Coombs, Col- chester. HAMPSHIRE. VS.— Aldershot ( County). — For stealing, 2nd inst., a pneumatic safety bicycle, " Humber " 1900 pattern, black enamelled, usual parts plated, has been repaired near middle bracket and not re enamelled, 28 in. frame, " William Shuker " on transfer, straight handle bars, cork grips with white tips, mudguard on each wheel, clockwork bell, Brooks's saddle, pouch containing oil can and spanner, pump attached, " Warwick tyres" engraved thereon.— BENJAMIN BRIDGE, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, grey suit, black tie, dark grey cap, Army boots. A native of Oldbury, Worcestershire. Is a deserter from the 4th Battalion Worcester Regiment. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot, 14.— Southampton ( Borouqh).— For steal- ing £ 15 from his lodgings, 20th ult.— ALFRED IBERG, age 26 or 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache ( long and curly) light, 2 upper teeth and top of 1 finger missing, flat feet, weak legs; dress, light grey ( double- breasted) suit, white straw hat with black band, patent leather boots. A German or Swiss vegetable cook. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HERTFORDSHIRE. lb— Hertford ( County).— On commitment warrants for assault on police, disorderly conduct and refusing to quit licensed premises— GEORGE MATTHEWS, age 25, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( cut short with fringe in front) brown, eyes hazel; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, coloured silk wrapper, light cap, brown boots, wearing a silver buckle ring. A native of Hatfield. Escaped from custody 25th ult. Information to Supt. Shore, Hertford. 16.— Ware ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 19th Apr. and 3rd ult., at Buntingford— F. BURNS ( sup- posed false), age 68, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, stoops slightly, complexion dark, aquiline nose, hair ( thin and slightly bald), moustache and beard grey, eyes ( left glass) brown, 3rd and 4th right fingers contracted; dress, dark tweed jacket suit with thin white stripes, dark Chesterfield overcoat, brown soft felt hat, brown spats, lace shoes. A native of Norwich. He stated that he was a colonel in the army, and that he was employed by the War Office to survey the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Duke, Ware. 17.— St. Albans ( City).— For stealing a " Humber " bicycle, straight handle bars, frame black enamelled, cream colour wheels, 30- in. front, 28- in. back wheel, Dunlop ' 95 tyres, rubber pedals, brake, no mudguards— A MAN, age about 35, height 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved; dress, long black coat and trousers, soft felt hat. Represented that he was a clergyman. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. LANARKSHIRE. 19.— Hamilton ( Burgh)— For culpable homi- cide, 25th ult. — A MAN, age about 23, height 5 ft. 6 to 8 in., hair brown, clean shaved, large burn mark back of one hand, speaks with Scotch accent; dress, blue serge jacket suit, regatta shirt, check cap. Supposed a miner. Information to Chief Constable Millar, Hamil- ton, N. B. LANCASHIRE. 20.— Chorley ( County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— A MAN, who gave the name of DR. JUDIFINE or PAUL, age about 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair ( slightly bald on top), and small moustache dark, Jewish accent, of good address; dress, navy blue jacket and vest, black and white striped trousers. He took lodgings and represented that he was a medical student. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 21.— Chepstow ( County).— For obtaining, by false pretences, a silver watch ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 46, height 5 ft. 4 to 6 in., stout build, complexion pale, hollow cheeks, hair and rather heavy moustache dark, of good address; dress, dark ribbed cloth jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots, carried an umbrella with white metal knob, and a black leather bag. He represented that he was em- ployed by a local watchmaker, and obtained the watch for repair. Is believed to be identical with — SMITH, Case No. 10, 31st ult., and sup- pcsed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Captain Parker, Superintendent, Monmouth. 22.— Newport ( Borough). — For stealing, 27th Apr., a watch and chain ( recovered)— JOHN THOMAS PAWR, age 41, height 5 ft. 4J in., complexion fresh, oval face, long nose, hair ( turning grey) brown, moustache reddish, eyes hazel, bad teeth, small brown mole left lower eye- lid, cut scar left side of upper lip, boil scar inside right forearm, speaks with a Devonshire accent, impediment in speech. Supposed a labourer; native of Brixham. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, Town Hall, Newport. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 23.— Northampton ( County).— For steal- ing £ 3,22nd ult., at Lamport— A MAN, who gave the name of ANTHONY, age about 29, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark ; dress, light grey coat and vest, dark grey trousers, dark soft felt hat, appearance of a valet. He left behind a bicycle which was afterwards found to have been stolen at Ely, 15th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Webster, County Police Office, Northampton. 24. — Wellingborough ( County). — For obtaining £ 10 10s. by false pretences, 29th ult.— ALFRED C. HICKERSON, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion and hair dark, full round face, clean shaved, turns his feet outwards; dress, black suit and cap, check tie. A groom ; native of Pitsford. Had in his possession a blank cheque, No. F 3547 on the Capital and Counties Bank, Northampton Branch. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Alexander, Welling- borough. OXFORDSHIRE. 25.— Deddington ( County).— For obtaining an old patent lever watch, bull's eye glass; 1 white metal curb chain, 2 sixpences attached with TUESDAY, JUNE - 3, 1901. DEVONSHIRE. 32.— Tavistock County).— For stealing Oth ult,, a postal letter, the property of His Majesty's Postmaster General — A L BE R T ERNEST JAMES MARTIN, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., inclined to be stout, complexion ilorid, hair ( nearly bald) dark, moustache brown, large bunion on right big toe, walks heavier with left foot than with right, is fond of betting; dress, when last seen, grey jacket suit and cap. A sorting clerk and telegraphist. The photograph was taken about 10 years ago. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. DURHAM. 33.— Consett { County).— For larceny ( bailee) — Expiree THOMAS WIIITWORTH, alius JAMES UN WIN, GEORGE JOHNSTONE, JOHN ROGERS, GEORGE LAMB, and JOHN DRURY, age 54, height 5 ft. llf in., complexion sallow, hair grey ( bald), eyes hazel, D left side, scars back of neck and head, mole left side of neck. Sentenced at Aberdeen High Court, 26th June, 1894, to 5 years penal servitude for fraud. Previously convicted at York, Lincoln, Sheffield, and Beverley. See Case No. 18, 17th ult. Warrant issued. '< H— Fareham { County).— For embezzle- ment— HERBERT EDWARD SLY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark brown, rather large eyes, walks quickly, turns his feet outwards; dress, black or dark jacket suit, black cloth cap, lace boots with toecaps, usually wears a double gold Albert with Freemason's jewel attached. WARWICKSHIRE. 35.— Aston Manor { County).— For desert- ing his wife and family— ERNEST AUGUSTUS ADAMS, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache sandy, eyes ( full) grey. A hardware traveller ; native of Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Hannah, Aston Manor.
