All announcementa for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to ihem, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose appreliension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be Wtewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to he thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the / mine and address of some person responsible for the payment must be giveni and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of person* whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 1 ">. v. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. if. Ecery announcement, i f for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent: and. if the n- t ine of such person is required to he inserted' a> ul no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must, be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents oi' stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE RT AZETTE, must, uii their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request, for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and, for the Tuesday edition mt later than Satwday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payinents must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. SPECIAL NOTICE. IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. Warrant issued. 2.— C Division. — For stealing £ 93 — FREDERICK BROWNE, age 45, height 5 ft. 7in„ complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( turning grey) dark, eyes grey, wearing dark clothes. A public- house manager. Absconded 26th ult. Warrant issued. 3.— J Division. - For stealing ( bailee) a cart ( recovered) ROBERT SAGE, age 30, height 5 ft., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and small moustache light; dress, grey Derby tweed suit. May be found working as a navvy or carman at buildings in course of erection. Warrant issued. 4.— P Division. For embezzling £ 22 2s. Id.— ARTHUR WRIGHT, age 19, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, long nose, hair light brown, eyes grey ; dress, navy blue jacket and vest, dark trousers, grey cap, lace boots. A booking clerk: native of Canterbury. Warrant issued. 5. — T Division. For embezzlement— JOSEPH H. BIRCH, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, sharp features, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue ; dress, black morning coat and vest, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. ( trust monies)— JAMES JOHN CUMMINS, late of S Union Court, Old Broad Street, age 53, height about 5 ft. 8 in., well built, complexion and hair ( turning grey) dark, wears glasses, very high forehead, top of head almost egg shape, walks with short quick step; well dressed. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Windsor ( Borough.).— For shooting at a police constable with intent to do grievous bodily harm — LOUIS RENUNARD ( supposed false), a Frenchman, age about 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair and moustache ( clipped) dark, eyes grey or blue ; dress, grey and black check overcoat with cape, black morning coat and vest, grey trousers, light cloth cap. Supposed an expert burglar. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Carter, Windsor. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 9.— Aylesbury ( County).— For house- breaking, 6th inst., at Stone— TWO MEN, 1st age 18 to 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair light; dress, light brown jacket and trousers, black peak cap, brown shoes. 2nd, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stout build, com- plexion and hair dark; dress, dark coat and trousers, black cap. Both speak with German accent. Stated they were going to Cardiff. 10.— Aylesbury ( County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— TWO MEN, 1st age about 30, height 5ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion, hair, and moustache dark; dress, dark suit, dark soft felt hat. 2nd, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, moustache inclined to sandy ; dress, grey or fawn colour suit, light soft felt hat. Was riding a bicycle fitted with carrier, i arcel in a black mackintosh cover tied at back of seat. Both spoke with foreign accent. Pledged by the above at Aylesbury, 23rd ult. ( supposed stolen) a pneumatic safety bicycle, " The Claremont," bamboo frame, Palmer's tyres, wide handle bars, celluloid and felt handles, rat- trap pedals, small saddle," National Saddle Works, Sydenham Road. Birmingham," and " No. 258351" thereon, brake attached, makers Lloyd A- Sons, Bishop Street, Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. For Housebreak- ing at Havering, 19th ult., and stealing a silver curb pattern Albert chain, seal with 2 stones ( 1 cracked) and heart attached— TWO MEN, 1st, age about 2( 1, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache dark ; wearing black morn- ing coat and black felt hat. 2nd, age about 26, height 5 ft. S or 9 in., full, red face, hair brown, supposed slight dark moustache ; dress, black morning coat, grey trousers, soft black hat. Both speak with foreign accent and are believed to be Jews. Information to Supt. Creasy, Romford. HAMPSHIRE. 22.— Southampton { Borough). For steal- ing £ 7 16s. 5d.— JAMES FRANCIS BAVER- STOCK, age 31, height .5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes blue; dress, light grey suit or uniform of a ship's steward, sometimes wears a brown mixture cycling suit. A barman or steward, previously employed as a cycle repairer ; native of Stoke Damerell, Devon. Warrant issued. 23.— Southampton { Borough). For steal- ing a bicycle ( bailee)— FRANK HEWITT, age about 26, height about 6 ft., well built, complexion, hair, small moustache, and eyes dark, pointed nose ; dress, dark blue suit and hard felt hat, or grey coat and vest, breeches and brown leggings. HEREFORDSHIRE. 24.— Hereford { City).— For stealing, 15th ult., 3 rings ( 1 broad plain gold ; 1 gold- plated, snake pattern; 1 old- fashioned, gold, set 12 red stones, glass and hair in centre) ; 3 gold brooches ( 1 oval, white stone in centre ; 1 about in. long, 3 corals in centre ; 1, set 5 white stones ( 1 missing), cross, heart and anchor attached); 1 red silk or mohair bracelet, stone therein set in gold ; and several bent threepenny pieces GREEN, alias GREEN- VAUGHAN, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, rather thick lips, impediment in speech, foreign accent ; wearing dark suit with narrow white stripe and silk hat. A native of Chatham. Warrant issued. 30.— Chatham { County).— For deserting his child- ALFRED THOMAS SMITH, age about 30, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, sore eyes. Dover { Borough).— For stealing £ 37—, CARLO DANNESI, an' Italian, age 35, height ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion, hair, and eyes dark, long moustache dark brown, speaks very little English ; dress, dark clothes and cap. An ice cream vendor ; previously employed as a ship's fireman. Absconded 4th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sanders, Dover. 32.— Folkestone { Borough).— For obtain- ing monev by false pretences — HERBERT AUSTIN COLLINGWOOD, alius RICHARD COLLINS, age 33 ( looks older), height about 5 ft. 5 in., wrinkled face, hair ( bald in front) inclined to ginger, clean shaved, small ( weak) eyes dark, abscess sear on one cheek, head inclines to left side, rather high forehead, several front upper teeth missing, sometimes wears blue glasses, short quick step ; dress, blue serge suit, black bow tie, blue cap or black hard felt hat, brown boots with square toes ( rubber soles), carries a congo- wood stick ( crook handle, silver mounted). May seek employment with bill posters ; supposed a native of Maidstone. Stays at common lodging- houses. He represented that a legacy had been left to him and required money to enable him to employ a solicitor. Absconded 7th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Reeve, Folke- stone. 33 - Tunbridge Wells Borough).— For stealing, 22nd ult., a grey mare, 15 hands 3 in., 5 years old, short mane and tail; a set of black leather harness, silver- plated mounts ; and a dog cart, black bodv, red wheels ( lined black), brass lamps BRYANT or WILLIAMSON, age about 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., clean shaved ; dress, snuff- coloured suit, black hard hat. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Sutton, Slough. 13.— High Wycombe { Borough). — For stealing, 22nd ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— JOHN WOOD, alias LITTLE JACK, age about 23, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved ; dress, dark blue serge suit, black scarf, cap, light brown boots. A show labourer ; may be found 1 ravelling with roundabouts. Sup- posed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sparling, High Wycombe. CHESHIRE. £ 2 REWARD. 14.- Middlewich ( County).— For deserting his family— SAMUEL BUCKLEY, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion and moustache dark, hair black, scar over left eye. A chemical labourer ; native of Northwich Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Northwich Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Buckley. Information to Supt. Large, Middlewich. 15.— Birkenhead ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence- holder EDWARD JORDAN, age 27, height 5 ft. 7£ in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar right cheek, 2small scars loft shin, scar left wrist and thumb and on each forefinger ; dressed in brown jacket suit, billy- cock hat. DERBYSHIRE. 16.— Chesterfield ( County).— For stealing a mare ( recovered) and a light brown pony, 6 years, 13£ hands, hair on body mixed with grey, 3 grey marks at root of tail, scar, size of a shilling, on near hip, black points, tail docked, grooved shoes in front, rather mule- footed — ROBERT MARFLEET, age 21, height 5 ft. 6J in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar back of right forearm, palm of left hand, and left first linger, mole on arms ; dress, dark suit. A native of Dresden, Staffs. Is an associate of low horse dealers and gipsies. See portrait, Case No. 37. Information to Supt. Faulkner, Chesterfield. 17.- Derby ( County).— For stealing £ 2, 15th ult. ALBERT HICKTON. alias HICTON and HARRY HICKTON, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes hazel, scar right side of eye ; dress, black coat, cord trousers and vest. Was employed as captain of a canal boat. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Airey, Derby, DEVONSHIRE. 18.- Chudleigh ( County). — For stealing, 30th ult,, at Teignmonth, a small gold watch, No! 33570; 1 small silver watch ; 2 gold rings ( 1 twisted half way round ; the other set small stone): 1 silver Albert; 1 pair gold- plated sleeve links ; 1 gold- plated anchor, heart, and cross ; and about £ 4— DAVID BRODSKY, a Frenchman, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, com- plexion and hair dark, clean shaved, wide mouth ; dress, grey suit, bowler hat, or grey jacket and trousers, and velvet vest with blue spots. ESSEX. 19.— Braintree { County).— For stealing, 4th ult., a " Humber" Coventry bicycle, ' 98 pattern, 24 in. frame, brake to front wheel, back mudguard, recently fitted with rat- trap pedals, teeth blunt, long plated pump, bag, bell, and lamp attached— WILLIAM HARWOOD WATSON, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache brown, eyes deep blue, long sharp nose, several front teeth deficient; dress, brown Holland jacket, black trousers, plaid cap, black tie with silver whip and trumpet pin. A painter ; native of Sutton, Surrey. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Terry, Braintree. 20.— Romford ( County).— For obtaining £ 6, 23rd May last, by a worthless cheque on the London and South Western Bank, Limited, East Ham Branch — CHARLES BROWN, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion HER TFORDSHIRE. 25.- Bishops Storttord ( County).— For failing to report— Licence- holder GEORGE DAVIES, Office No. 1473- 00, age 64, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( bald), eyes hazel, cross flags with heart in centre on chest, flag and D left side, flag right side of chest, man and wreaih left forearm, cross round base of left forearm, half bracelet left wrist, woman with anchor overhead on front of right forearm. Sen- tenced at Cambridge Assizes, 29th May, 1897, to 1 years penal servitude for arson. Licenced 30th May last. X 136. Information to Supt. Foster, Bishops Stortford. 26.-- Hertford ( County). For obtaining a number of engineer's tools by false pretences— H. BUCKLAND, alias CANN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., slight build, complexion and moustache dark, pock- marked, American accent; dress, dark rough blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, lace boots. He represented himself as an engineer, obtained the tools on loan, stating he had some work to execute, disposed of them, and absconded. Was accompanied by a woman, age about 27, short, delicate appearance, and a boy age 11 years. Warrant issued. 27.— Hertford ( County).- For stealing, 5th inst., at Essendon, a thermometer ( recovered) WILLIAM MITCHELL, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) and moustache turning grey, sharp nose ; dress, dark jacket, black vest, grey striped trousers, grey waterproof cap, new lace boots. KENT. 28.— Chatham ( County).— For deserting his children — WILLIAM CHARLES BLACKTOP, age 43, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair M. Bolton ( County).— For stealing, 30th ult., at Westhoughton, a silver English lever watch, No. 24, plain cases; a blue and white striped cotton shirt; and 31s.— THOMAS HULL, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, carries his head forward, blue mark under right eye; dress, black worsted jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers, light colour cap, clogs. A collier. — ANNIE SHIELDS, age 34, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes dark, rather long nose ; dress, black dress, light brown cape, white straw sailor hat, trimmed black ribbon, carried a light brown shawl. Had with her a male child, age 6 months. Absconded 30th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Leeming, County Police Office, Bolton. NORFOLK. 35.— Pulham ( County). — For larceny — ROBERT WILSON, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8" in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, one front tooth deficient; dress, dark ribbed coat and vest, brown cord breeches and gaiters, dark cap, heavy nailed boots. A native of South Walsham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Willmott, Pulham Market. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 36. — Northampton ( Borough). — For stealing £ 210 — WILLIAM JENKINSON GALLARD, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, round features, hair light brown, slight moustache light, speaks rather slowly ; dress, check suit, straw hat, carried a small brown handbag. SOMERSETSHIRE. 11.— Yeovil { County).— For embezzlement— ERNEST PARKER, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown. A draper's assistant; supposed a native of Wisbech. Warrant issued. 45.— Yeovil ( County). For obtaining food and money by false pretences - WILLIAM DAVIS, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, and hair ( bald on top) dark, moustache lighter than liair, blue mark on right cheek and light side of fore- head, long scar on right middle linger; dress, black coat and vest, braid around cuffs of coat, black serge trousers, black tie, black soft felt hat with mourning band, kid boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Self, Yeovil. STAFFORDSHIRE. 16.- Stoke- on- Trent ( County). - For failing to report — Licence- holder WILLIAM WAKEFIELD, Office No. 148- 00, age 27, height 5 ft. i in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel ( cataract right eye), clean shaven, mole right cheek, ring 2nd right finger, dot right forearm. Sentenced at Stafford Assizes, 22nd July, 1895, to 6 years penal servitude for aiding and abetting rape. Licenced 19th January last. V. 223.
