REGU 1 All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating t, i them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persojut whose apprehension is sought will he inserted rv one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted « « one isiue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4 In all rases where a reward is offered, the mime and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must, be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sough: for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sltetch of a stolen article. 6. Every a nnouncemtnt, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank tluin Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against h im, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. A TIONS. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE CRAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to tlus Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible fur any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and' for tin- Tuesday edition iwt later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and, accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All paymenU must, be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament- Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Otficers of Police, when forwarding for identification by the Metropolitan Police the Photographs and descrip- tive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This m ly often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. CARDIGANSHIRE. 6.— Aberystwyth ( Bounty).— For leaving his wife and child chargeable to the Common Fund of the Aberystwyth Union — GEOROE EDWARDS, alias BANBURY and BLACK GEORGE, age about 34, height about 5 ft, 4 in., complexion, hair, whiskers ( bushy), moustache, and eyes ( rather small) dark ; dress, brown cloth coat and vest, cord trousers, strong lace boots. A labourer ; may be found on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Phillips, Aberystwyth. DERBYSHIRE. 7. — Chesterfield ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 13th ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— HARRY GRAHAM, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft, 7 or 8 in., complexion, hair, and moustache dark, left fore- finger missing, walks erect; dress, black jacket and vest, black trousers with fine white stripes, white tie with blue flowers, black and white check cap. A tramping tailor; stated he came from London. Is believed to be a member of the Tailors' Union. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Emery, Chester- field. DEVONSHIRE. 8.— Plymouth ( Borough).— For failing to report — Licence - holder WILLIAM LITTLE, Office No. 347- 00, age 53, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, right middle finger amputated, scar left side forehead, between left middle finger and ring finger. A stone dresser ; native of Aberdare. Sentenced at New Sarum Assizes, 30th May, 1894, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny, liemanet of former sentence expires 11th June, 1900. Pre- viously convicted at Gloucester, Swansea, and Cardiff. C. K. U. 752. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Plymouth. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 9 — Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing a lady's gold watch, No. 24136, gold chain ( four lengths), with heart- shape locket and trinkets attached ; 1 silver curb chain— JAMES HENRY WRIGHT, age about 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair ( very short) light; dress, drab or brown jacket, dark ( double- breasted) vest, dark trousers with faint white stripes, plaid cap, light boots. FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 1900. 10 — Gloucester [ County).— For failing to report — Supervisee WILLIAM JONES, alias CHARLES MATTHEW HOPKINS, Office No. . r> 26- 00, age 73, height 5 ft. U ins., complexion fresh, hair white, eyes blue, cut scar right of fore- head, root of nose, right thumb, blue scar outer corner left eyebrow, round shouldered. A shoe- maker, native of Wells. Sentenced at Gloucester Quarter Sessions 18th October. 1890, to 4 months' imprisonment and 5 years' police supervision for larceny. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. 11 .— Staple Hill ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings bv false pretences— HENRY WALKER, alias YORKEY, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair ( turning grey) dark, 2 lower front teeth missing, bow- legged, Yorkshire accent: dress, brown coat, vest, and breeches, fawn coloured gaiters, black hat, brown worsted gloves, heavy lace boots, sometimes wears a long dark coat. He calls on farmers and states he is engaged by a firm to purchase horses for them. Is identical with man described in Case No. 45, 16th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 12.— Fareham ( County),— For obtaining, by false pretences, a mare, cart, and harness ( re- covered)— JOHN BAKER ( supposed false), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, rather full face, double chin, hair brown, small moustache light, nose appears to have been broken, very soft voice; dress, light dust coat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots, brown gaiters, carried an umbrella ; the appearance of a horse dealer.— And A MAN, age about 45, height about 5 ft, 9 in., stout build, complexion ruddy, hair, whiskers ( rather thin on chin), and mous- tache dark brown ; dress, dark overcoat, sealskin vest, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. They attend markets. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hack, Fareham. 13 Petersfield ( County). — For failing to report — Supervisee GEORGE ERNEST FLETCHER, Office No. 698- 98, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes brown, scar left thumb, left fourth finger, right forearm, back of right hand, right side of fore- head, fourth left finger fractured, drum of left ear diseased, peculiar look about the eyes ; dress, 2 black jackets, brown tweed trousers and vest, brown skull cap. Sentenced at Surrey Sessions, 31st August, 1897, to 6 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for larceny. 14647. Information to Supt. King, Petersfield. HEREFORDSHIRE. 14.— ROSS ( County).— For an indecent assault — FREDERICK VAUGHAN, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache dark; dress, old brown coat, dark blue jacket, 2 vests ( 1 dark cord, 1 black), dark cord trousers, brown cloth cap, heavy nail boots. A native of Little Dewchurch, Herefordshire. May seek employment as a farm labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Ross; or Sergt. Lloyd, Harwood End. HERTFORDSHIRE. 15.— Bishop Stortford ( County).— For larceny and obtaining lodgings by false pretences — MAGGIE MCDONALD, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes black, long hook nose, no upper teeth, speaks with Scotch accent; dress, black jacket and skirt, black sailor hat with silk band, black veil, dark brown neck fur, black Petersham waistband with deep silver- plated buckle, small chain attached with small gold or gilt locket containing a portrait of General McDonald. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Bishop Stortford. 1G.— Watford ( County).— Yor conspiracy and fraud.— REUBEN SUTTON HAMBLEY, age 20, height 5 ft. 6J in , complexion, hair, and slight moustache dark ; dress, blue reefer suit, greenish colour overcoat with sack back, blac . satin tie, black hard felt hat with wide brim, brown boots. native of hungerford, Berks. Warrant issued. Information to Superintendent Wood, Watford. 17.— St. Albans ( City).— For stealing, 26th ult., a lady's gold Geneva watch. No. 48409, open face, gold dial, chased back ; 1 long gold plated neck chain ; 1 brown peak cap— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair ( bald on crown) and moustache dark brown, cast in one eye, foreign accent, lisps ; dress, blue jacket and vest, dark check trousers, brown cap. Stated he was a ship's cook. Left behind a blue peak seaman's cap, with badge on front. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. ISLE OF WIGHT. 18.— Newport ( County).— For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the common fund of the Isle of Wight Union. 20th October, 1899— CHARLES MABEY, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes blue, 3 strokes tattooed back right wrist; dress, when last seen, grey or black jacket and vest, moleskin trousers, white silk muffler, skull cap, wore a black leather belt with snake buckle and brass ornaments. A labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hale, Newport. KENT. 19.— Chatham County).— For deserting his wife at Strood— WILLIE HAIGH, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown moustache light, may be clean shaved, eyes blue, " Haigh " and a man tattooed on one arm, cut scar right eye ; dress, dark blue stable suit, long over- coat, blue serge cap. A stableman or cab driver. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham. LANARKSHIRE. 20.- Motherwell ( County).— For stealing, 10th Feb., a silver watch ( recovered); 1 blue rough tweed overcoat, velvet collar, black lining, black and white sleeve lining- HENRY RICHARDS, alias STEPHENSON, STEVENS, ROGERS, and LITTLETON, age 33. height 5 ft. 6| in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, mous- tache dark, eyes hazel, short- sighted and wears glasses when reading, back of left hand and lst, 2nd, and 3rd fingers contracted, dot back of left forearm, upper front teeth missing. Previously convicted at Hull, York, Leeds, Morpeth, Durham, Cardiff, Tain, Glasgow, and Greenock. See portrait case No. 39, 19th August, 1898. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Moir, Motherwell, N. B. LANCASHIRE. 21.— Chorley ( County).— For stealing, be- tween 25th and 26th ult., a dark grey cloth single- breasted - J overcoat, black bone buttons, velvet collar, short division in centre of back, green letter case in one pocket; 1 pair brown kid gloves; 1 silver verge watch, double case, " W. Gillett" on outside of outer case— A MAN, age about 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, light tie and cap. Stated he was a horse dealer, and native of Devonshire. Information to Supt, Norris, Chorley. 22.— Liverpool ( City).— For embezzling £ 65 14s., 31st ult.— C. J. BROOKS, age about 35, very short, red blotchy face, hair brown, slight moustache light ; dress, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, felt hat. A clerk ; was employed in the tramway service. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. 23.- Oldham ( Borough).— For stealing, 9th ult., a lady's gold keyless Geneva watch, No. 153531; a brown plaid jacket; 1 rough blue serge vest; and a light blue necktie — JACK REYNOLDS, alias BELL, HILL, MOSS, Ac., age 38, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald in front) brown, moustache sandy, eyes blue, sailor and woman with glass in hand, table and bottle on left arm, female on right ; wearing the stolen jacket, vest, and tie, brown cap, white cord trousers, and lady's lace boots. Previously con- victed. A native of Manchester. See Case No. 36, 9th April, 1897. 24.— Oldham Borough).— For stealing, 8th ult., a lady's light fawn slack back jacket, double breasted, pearl buttons; 1 black corded poplin dress skirt, trimmed heliotrope, corded silk ribbon and chiffon in front; 1 black lustre skirt — ALICE LOUISA HAMILTON, age about 24, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, 2 upper front teeth irregular; wearing the stolen jacket, black straw sailor hat, black tie with white ruffles. 25 — Oldham ( Borough).— For non- payment of maintenance arrears— MICHAEL JOSEPH FEGAN, age 36, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache sandy, eyes blue, prominent nose. A native of Newry. He travels the country selling books entitled " The Golden Book of Life." Is accompanied by his four brothers. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Turner, Oldham. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 26.- Monmouth ( County).— For fowl steal- ing, 2nd ult.— GEORGE LOCKWOOD, age 41, height 5 ft. 6 in., slightly round shoulders, com- plexion fair, hair and slight moustache light brown, eyes blue ; dress, old brown jacket, cord trousers, hard bowler hat, heavy nailed boots. A native of Monmouth.— THOMAS LOCKWOOD, age 29, height 5 ft. 6J or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache dark brown, slightly bow- legged, turns his toes inwards when walking; dress, light coat and vest, cord trousers, brown cap, heavy nailed boots. The above are brothers, and notorious poachers, and have been previously convicted. Warrant issued. 27.— Monmouth ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 30th December, 1899, a silver lever watch — HENRY MARTIN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slightly round shoulders, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark ; wearing dark grey clothes ( greasy), and dark cap. A watch and clock cleaner. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Parker, Monmouth. 28.— Tredegar ( County).— For larceny, 18th ult.— WILLIAM WILFORD, alias WRIGHTY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair and slight moustache light, weak watery eyes; dress, black coat and vest, brown plaid tight- fitting trousers, dark cap, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Allen, Tredegar. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. 29.— Welshpool ( County). — For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Llanfj- llin Union, 8th Feb.— WILLIAM HUGHES, age 48, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) and moustache dark brown, usually wears whiskers on chin, eyes light brown, Roman nose rather red, W. H. on back left hand, dot between right thumb and forefinger. A labourer; may be found at farmhouses or on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Williams, Welshpool; or Sergeant Meredith, Llanfyllin. NORFOLK. 30.— Kings Lynn ( Borough).— For desert- ing their wives and families— JOHN THOMAS PINNER, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar left shin, " T. P." tattooed on left arm, birthmark on chest. A native of Kings Lynn. Has worked as a labourer for the National Telephone Co.— JOHN WARD, age 39, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue. A carpenter; native of Tilney St. Laurence.— HENRY WALKER DOCKING, age 31, height 5 ft. 9| in., complexion sallow, hair ( curly) black, slight side whiskers and moustache, eyes brown, very broad forehead. A painter; native of Kings Lynn. For deserting his family — EBENEZER O. FORDHAM, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, whiskers and moustache, eyes blue, of military appearance. A carpenter ; native of Kings Lynn. Warrants issued. A reward of £ 1 will be paid in each case by Mr. R. Coulton, Clerk to the Kings Lynn Guardians, for such information as will lead to the arrest of above. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 31.— Northampton ( County).— For steal- ing ( bailee) £ 26 15s. while secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants— ARTHUR EDWARD BAINES, age 32, height 5 ft. 9 or JO in., complexion fresh, hair, side whiskers, and moustache light brown, lst joint of left little finger missing. Was employed as a foreman shunter on the L. & N. Western Railway. A native of Seaton, Rutland. Absconded in January last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Webster, County Police Office, Northampton. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 32.— C Division•— For stealing about 40 cheques, Nos. between H& 528007 and 528114, drawn on the Cheque Bank, 93 Bishopsgate Street Without, E. G. — WILLIAM EDWARD BENNETT TURNER, age about 41, height 6 ft. 1 in., complexion, hair, heavy moustache, and eyes dark, face slightly bloated, walks badly, Hat- Is footed ; dress ( supposed), blue Melton overcoat, black cloth suit, black hard felt hat. A native of Chelsea, London ; lately employed as an inspector of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 105 Jermyn Street, W. Has served in that capacity at Liverpool, Manchester, Old- ham, and Plymouth. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 33.— E Division. - For stealing pearls to the value of £ 5,000 ( recovered)— CHRISTOPHER BALIAN, age 32 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., broad shoulders, complexion sallow, hair black, left eye deficient, eyelid closed, right dark brown : usually wears grey overcoat and black felt hat. A native of Smyrna. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. OXFORDSHIRE. £ 10 REWARD. 34. Henley ( County).— For embezzling £ 221 13s. 9d„ between 19th May and 18th July, 1899— CHARLES PRIOR, age 31, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache brown, eyes grey or blue ; dress, grey suit and cap, light brown dust coat, wore a silver watch and chain. A brewer's clerk ; native of Henley- on- Thames. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. W. H. Brakspeare & Co., Brewers, Henley- on- Thames, for such information as will lead to the arrest of Prior. Information to Supt. Jennings, Henley- on- Thames.
