W. 2. Particulars concerning perx. ms whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will he likewise inserted in one time, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and, address of sime person responsible for the payment must be given, arid the exact conditions must he clearly stated, o. Portraits « f persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen, property wi- ll be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch, of a stolen article. Every anmmncement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed, by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person ti required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against h im, the requisition must he signed bg the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 6. 7. Announcements coiwerniiig stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property hear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which ca uses part iculars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE V'IAZETTE, mitt> f, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible, for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Aniwuneements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon oil Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Satwday morning. They must he clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering Utter. 12. All payments must he in advance, either at the office, Nero Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, pay able at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. He takes lodgings, representing that he has been engaged by the Government to make a map of the district, and after staying a few days leaves on the pretence of going to the station to meet his companions. He calls upon ship's chandlers, & c., stating he is manager for a shipping firm. Orders large quantities of goods for ship arriving in port on following day. Late master of the Kingsclere Work- house. Absconded 27th December last. Warrant issued. He was discharged from Heaton Mersey Industrial School about 3 months ago. Is a fair musician and may endeavour to enlist. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. Barclay & Co.' s Bank, Hitchin Branch, and a postal order for 3s., entrusted to him to deposit at the Stevenage Bank— GEORGE MUNDEN, age about 22, height about 5 ft, 6 in., complexion fresh, hair inclined to sandy, slight moustache, eyes blue ; dress, old grey cloth suit and cap, lace boots. A reporter. Is in possession of an ambulance first aid certificate, and may endeavour to join a volunteer corps proceeding to South Africa. Warrant issued. Previously convicted of larceny, and has been on a reformatory ship. 21. DYSON ( supposed false), age about 21, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, sharp features, hair light brown ; dress, black jacket and vest, dark pepper and salt coloured cloth trousers, dark plaid tie, brown gloves, carried a knotted loop handl ' cane. A gipsy ; travels the country with 3 vans and hawks shirts. Is accom- panied by his father. Warrant issued.
