Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in our issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by an/> ther free. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 1. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. ."). Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen, property will be inserted at a cost of 15.?. per portrait, and of Is. Gd. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Erery announce indent, if for the apprehension of a, person, must be guaranteed, by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent.; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted' a nd no ' xvavrawtis in force against h im, the requisition m ust be signed bi/ the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announccme/ Us concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements if all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alph abet ically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars coneerjiing delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE CRAZETTE, must, on their apprehension, or recovery, ut once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any aniunmcement will be. wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result, from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, cither at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 7.— Aylesbury County)— For stealing, 11th ult., a " Popular" bicycle, makers New Beeston, Coventry, rather high build, large cork handles, pitch chain, Warwick tyre back, Beeston front, 28 in. wheel, 60 gear, lamp, bell, and tool bag, and brown luggage canvas bag— ARTHUR JACKSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair and heavy moustache brown, eyes grey; dress, black jacket and vest, light grey plaid trousers, grey cap, bow tie. WOOD ( sup- posed false), age about 26, height 5 ft. 10 in., com- plexion inclined to dark, hair and moustache brown ; dress, light plaid shooting suit, cap, brown leather gaiters. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 9.— Runcorn ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences and stealing a silver- mounted pipe, 14th ult.— — FRASER, age about 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair ( partly bald on top), sandy, turning grey, long thin moustache light, strong Scotch accent; dress, pepper and salt coloured tweed suit, cardigan jacket, black tie, black hard elt hat. He represe nted himself as captain of a teamer lying at Runcorn Docks, and left the following morning, stating he was going to the station to meet his wife and family. Warrant issued. Pearson, Runcorn. 7 10.— Stockport ( Borough).— For failing to report — Licence - holder ROBERT JAMES BARNES, alias ANDREW STEVENSON, JAMES BARTON, and BERTIE, Office No. 3507- 99, age 54, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes grey, blue scar centre of fore- head, right wrist, and several on right arm. A printer ; native of Liverpool. Sentenced at Liverpool County Sessions, 21th August, 1897, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. CUMBERLAND. 11.— Workington [ County).— Vor em- bezzling Ids.— JOHN STEVENSON, age about 33, height 5 ft, 8 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes blue grey, eyebrows meet, Scotch accent, walks erect, of good address ; dress, black coat and vest, grey trousers, blue overcoat with black velvet collar, tartan tie. A canvasser. Had in his possession an order- book marked " D. Hatton & Co., Barrow- in- Furness," and a sample enlarged photograph of a little girl. Absconded 15th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hope, Workington. DERBYSHIRE. 12. Eckington ( County).— For burglary, 5th inst., at Meersbrook, and stealing a cash- box containing 3 £ 5 Rank of England notes, Nos. " f 14224- 6, and £ 11 12s. 6d.— FREDERICK DAFT, age 10, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, squints in right eye ; " wear- ing new suit and cap. A native of 1 ronfield.— JOHN GORRELL, age IS, height 5 ft, 7J in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar right forefinger; dress, dark suit and cap. A wire roller; native of Norton. Both have been pre- viously convicted. May be found at common lodging- houses. . Warrant issued. . 13.— Eckington County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 2nd ult., at Creswell — G. RAIL, age about 40, height 5 ft, 2 or 3 in., stout build, moustache dark brown, cast in one eye ; dress, grey mixture overcoat, dark trousers, cap. He represents himself as a traveller, and calls on small shopkeepers for orders for fireworks, sweets, chocolate, & c., and obtains money by promising to forward a show- case. Warrant issued. DORSETSHIRE. 14.— Dorchester { County).— For stealing, 5th ult., 10 sheep ( recovered) — FREDERICK COGANS, alias THOMAS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 1in., complexion very fresh, freckled face, hair light sandy, may have recent cut marks back of head, slouching gait; dress, blue serge suit, grey skull cap. A cattle drover; native of Bristol. Had with him a well bred brown greyhound. Absconded 7th ult. May be found in company of low horse dealers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Burden, Dorchester. ' ESSEX. 15.— Chelmsford { County).— For stealing a bull and 16 heifers at West Hanningfield, 16th ult.— JOSEPH FLACK, age about 40, height about 5 ft, 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, eyes small ; dress, brown overcoat, dark trousers, brown soft felt hat, Stated he came from Stevenage, Herts. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. HAMPSHIRE. W.— Gosport ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences at Alverstoke, 3rd ult., a cart ( recovered)— H. MARTIN ( supposed false), age 28 to 30, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair brown ; dress, pepper and salt coloured suit, and cap to match ; and A MAN, age 25 to 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion and hair ( curly) dark, nose crooked and inclines to right, cut mark left side of upper lip, short neck, leans forward when walking; dress, blue serge suit, long cream colour overcoat, black hard felt hat ; had the appearance of horse dealers. B. B." in gold letters; 1 white silk waistlielt, with fancy gold buckle, 2 in. by If in.; a cardboard box with photograph of a lady on lid, containing some antique jewellery ; 1 Abyssinian gold double- case keyless watch, No. 5482582 engine- turned case; 1 do. double Albert curb pattern, silver match- box with boar's tusk with a pig on top of lid attached ; 1 18 ct. gold signet ring, set bloodstone, square and compass cut therein ; 1 lady's old gold dress ring, set turquoise; 1 do., chased shield on top, shank cracked on inside ; 1 gold gilt brooch, made of 3 naval buttons; 1 gold brooch, containing hair, surrounded with pearls ( 1 missing); 1 round silver brooch, with raised flowers, 1 flower broken ; 1 silver anchor brooch; 1 gold brooch; 1 silver do., graduated horseshoes ; 1 narrow silver bangle, chased ; 1 plain silver dessert spoon ; 1 silver tea spoon, monogram " C. A post office clerk ; native of Wat- ford' Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford. ISLE OF WIGHT. 21. Newport ( County).— For obtaining £ 20 by false pretences, 8th ult.— ARTHUR HIBBERD, age about 30. height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, haii- dark brown, eyes ( deep set) blue; dress, morning suit. A butler ; carried a black bag and some paper parcels. Absconded 2nd inst,, accompanied by a woman, age 28, small build, hair black, complexion and eyes dark ; had with her a brown tin clothes- box and a hat- box. May endeavour to leave the country. KENT. 22 — Chatham ( County).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the common fund of the Strood Union— THOMAS TUMBER, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., rather stout build, com- plexion pale, hair dark, moustache and eyes brown, cut scar on one wrist, mark centre of back; dress, mixture tweed jacket and vest, dark brown cord trousers, skull cap, light lace boots. C.— JAMES HAMILTON, alias LEWIS, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers, and moustache black ( turning grey) ; dress, old dark coat, black jacket, dark tweed trousers, skull cap, appearance of a mechanic. , Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hoare, West Mailing. 24.- Canterbury { City).— For forgery—. HARRY ANDERSON, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, mole calf left leg. A groom ; native of Ware, Hert- fordshire. Has served in the 1st West Riding Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Farmery, Canterbury. 2 I— Dover ( Borough).— For burglary, 27th ult.— HENRY WILLIAMS, alias HARMER, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft, 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair ( turning grey) light brown, moustache ( cut close) brown. A painter.— COURTNEY L. WIL- LIAMS, alias HARMER, son of above, age 19, height 5 ft, 2 in., complexion dark. Also a painter. Wanted elsewhere. Information to Head Constable Sanders, Dovar. 26.— Maidstone { Borough).— For deserting her children, about 19th October last, leaving them chargeable to the Common Fund of the Maid- stone Union— MARY ANN MCCARTHY, alias SPRINGETT, age 42, height 4 ft. 11 in., com- plexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes blue, addic- ted to drink ; wearing black clothing. A hawker; may be found at low lodging- houses. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Mackintosh, Maidstone. LANCASHIRE. 27.— Burnley ( County). - For stealing £ 48 10s., at Cliviger— GEORGE FREDERICK NADEN, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, cut mark over one eye, one thumb deformed, large nose and feet. A native of Stockport. Information to Supt, Barnett, County Police Office, Burnley. fl- it- Old Trafford ( County).— For failihg to report— Licence- holder HENRY RICHARDS, alias CHARLES HENRY WALKER, ROBERTS, JORDAN, JONES, and EDWARDS, Office No. 1776- 99, age 30, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes brown, scar outer angle left eye, left middle finger, red mole right of chest, 2 blue dots left forearm. A grocer; native of York. Sentenced at Knutsford Quarter Sessions, 6th January, 1897, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny, Remanet of licence expires 14th April, 1900, but subject to police supervision on former sentence until 13th April, 1903. Information to the Superintendent, County Police, Ol. l Trafford. 29.— Wigan { County).— Escaped from custody charged with assault on police, 18th ult.— JAMES DURKIN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., rather stout build, complexion, slight moustache, and eyes ( cast in both) dark, slightly round- shouldered ; may be wearing dark suit. A coal mine labourer. Supposed a native of Leitrim, or Tubbercurry, Sligo. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brassington, Wigan. 30.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to report - Licence- holder JOHN MOORE, alius HENRY JONES, JOHNSON, SMITH, EVANS and WILSON. Office No. 3283- 99, age 45 height 5 ft., hair brown, eyes blue, complexion fresh; tumour left jaw, scar left side of chest and left forearm. A shoemaker ; native of Manchester. Sentenced at Manchester City Sessions, 11th December, 1895, to 5 years penal servitude for warehouse- breaking. Licensed 5th ult. X. F. V. 1094. 31.— Liverpool( City).— For failing to report, Licence- Holder JAMES FARRELL, Office No. 2708- 98. age 32, height 5 ft. 5} in., hair brown, eyes brown, complexion fresh, lost left fore- finger, scar inside left elbow, above wrist front left little finger, and back of right middle finger, cut right forehead, and near outer corner left eye, small blue cut left cheek, scar under left jaw. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 8th May, 1893, to 7 years penal servitude for possessing a mould for counterfeit coin. Licensed 17th September, 1898. T. 209. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. NORFOLK. 32. — Thetford ( County). — For non- pay- ment of maintenance arrears— GEORGE FOX, age 37, height 5 ft, 85 in. complexion swarthy, thin pale face, hair and moustache black, eyes grey, mole right cheek, deep scars left wrist, two men boxing tattooed on chest. A labourer; native of Elveden, Suffolk. May seek employ- ment at gas or on corporation works. Has served in the 1st Suffolk Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wright, East Harling, or Inspector Simpson, Thetford. NORTHUMBERLAND. 33.— Tynemouth ( borough).— For forging an endorsement to a cheque, 0th inst,— A MAN, age about 53, height 5 ft. 6 in., well built, hair, whiskers, and moustache grey, large nose, speaks with foreign accent; dress, long dark cloth over- coat, black serge jacket and vest, brown trousers, green peak cap, the appearance of a seaman. He obtained from a draper's shop a quantity of shirts, cuffs, towels, undershirts, pants, handkerchiefs, & c., tendering a stolen cheque payable to David Drummond, M. D., to which the endorsement had been forged. , Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Huish, North Shields. OXFORDSHIRE. 38.— Oxford ( County).— For obtaining a situation by a false character, at Headington — HARRY MANTON, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion pale, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, very high forehead ; dress, light brown jacket suit.
