I, All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should he addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SOOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by ** another force. 5 Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to eTiable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the paymerd must be given, and the exact, conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property ioill be inserted at a cost of lbs. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. S. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of cun officer of n" t, less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is reauired to be inserted and no warraid is in force against h im, the requisition must he signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rani than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinqueids or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprefiensic" or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement tvill ba wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcemetds for the Friday issue should be forwarded, so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edit ion iuit later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order or by Post Office Order payable at Parliame/ d Street Post Office. 13. Amunincements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to say that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and linger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested. RODGERS, alias DENFIELD, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes ( sunken) blue, palm of left hand sore, stoops slightly, turns his feet outwards; dress, grey stable suit and cap, brown leather leggings and boots. Meredith, Nantwich. 16.— Oakmere ( County).— For stealing 15s , 3rd inst., at Frodsham— THOMAS WALKER, age 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion ruddy, round face, large nose, hair ( turning grey) brown, clean shaved, eyes blue ; dress, black dress coat, cord breeches, brown leather leggings, cloth peak cap ; an ostler, has been employed at seaside resorts during summer months. DERBYSHIRE. 17.- Chesterfield ( Count//).— For larceny ( bailee) at Shirebrook, 10th inst. — SAMUEL ROEBUCK, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 2 in, complexion fair, hair light brown, limps slightly ; dress, navy- blue serge jacket, black vest, brown cord trousers, blue silk neckerchief with large white spots, navy- blue cap, lace boots. ESSEX. 18.— Brentwocd ( County).— For burglary and assault— HENRY BANTOCK, alias HENRY BANTICK, Office No. 241- 99, age 33, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar between eyebrows, above left eye, on left jawbone, right ankle, back of left hand, 1st right finger, on nose, and 2 back of head. A bricklayer, native of Stonham, Suffolk. Dress, light tweed jacket, brown trousers and vest, light cloth cap, white shirt with " J. M. Burrell, No. 4," marked in ink inside. Bantock is supposed to have an injured head and hand received from blows of the barrel of a gun. Sentenced at Essex Quarter Sessions, 19th October, 1898, to 3 months hard labour for larceny. Liberated 18th January, 1899, 9882. Has been several times convicted, including a term of penal servitude for horse- stealing. Information to Supt. Allen, Brentwood. HAMPSHIRE. 19.- Portsmouth ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 12th inst., a nearly new " Mereader" mando- line, 8 strings, 25 plain brown ribs to back, covered machine end, mother ' o pearl edging, red, blue, and green ribbons attached, in a dark tan coloured leather case lined with red, and about £ 2 — WILLIAM REGINALD BROOKS, alias RAYE, age 22 to 24, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion fair, hair light brown, brushed up in front and parted rather low on left side, slight mous- tache or clean shaved, eyes rather sunken, dark underneath lower lids, strong Midland accent : dress, blue serge lounge coat, blue ( double breasted) vest, bluish grey striped trousers, black and red tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Is fond of billiards. 20.— Portsmouth ( Borough). For house- breaking, 6th inst., and stealing a fancy brown grey tweed jacket suit, size 6, and a pair of trousers ( large size)— THOMAS BUCKLEY, age 29£, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown ( inner corner of left eye grey). A moulder ; native of Newcastle- on- Tyne. Is a private of the 1st East Lancashire Regiment. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. HERTFORDSHIRE. 21.— Watford ( County). — For inflicting grievous bodily harm on his wife, 2nd inst.— JESSE LACEY, age 34, height 5 ft, 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy ; dress, black coat and vest, cord trousers, dark cap, lace boots. Information to Supt Wood, Watford. q ^ ISLE OF WIGHT. 22.— Newport ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), 3rd inst., at Ventnor, a bicycle ( re- covered)— HERBERT WALDRON, alias GILL, GOVALL, and FLANNEL, age about 26. height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, sunburnt, hair and moustache brown; dress, brownish grey plaid suit and cap, green silk scarf, wore a gold watch chain. Is identical with man cases No. 14 and 78, 9th inst. Warrant issued. 23.— Newport ( County).— For deserting his wife and children at St. Helens, leaving them chargeable to the common fund of the Isle of Wight Union— GEORGE HENRY CREWS, age 45, height about 5 ft. 10 in., well built, complexion and hair dark, eyes brown, usually dressed as a yachtsman. ' J503S LANARKSHIRE. 25.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing a purse £ 15, and a deposit receipt for £ 70, and forgery of a signature to the receipt by which he obtained £ 10 4s. lid.— FRANCIS CARLI, an Italian, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, rather prominent nose, portion of one forefinger missing, speaks broken English; dress, dark cloth jacket suit, light check cap, side spring boots. Lately employed in an ice cream shop. Absconded 16th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Charley ( County). — For embezzling £ 3 0s. 5d., during January and February last— THOMAS HOUGH, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown. A labourer or carter ; native of Walton- le- Dale, Lanes. Absconded 8th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley 27.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to report — Licence Holder JOHN KELLY, alias THOMAS KERSHAW and JAMES LEGGATT, Office No. 496- 99, age 52, height 5 ft. 3| in., hair grey, eyes blue, complexion fresh, 3 sears right back and 1 left top of head, right eyebrow, left middle finger slightly contracted, 3 scars back right upper arm, 1 front right forearm and right thumb, brown mole left ribs, pockmarked. Sentenced at Liver- pool Assizes 23rd May, 1892, to 7 years penal ser- vitude for burglary, which with remanet expires 27th April, 1900. Licenced 20th February last. D. I. S. 107. IK.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to report, supervisee WILLIAM KELLY, Office No. 2327- 98, height 5 ft. 1J in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, scar both eyebrows, fore- head, and left temple, boil mark back of neck, scars right elbow, third right finger and on chest, dot between right thumb and finger, dog bite left forearm; a stoker, native of Manchester. Sen- tenced at Manchester, 12tli December, 1894, to 3 years penal servitude and 3 years police super- vision, for warehouse- breaking. Liberated 5th August, 1898. U 564. Supervisee MARY ADEY, alias FLOOD, STOTT, PARR and BROWN, Office No. 28- 99, age 62, height 5 ft. 1J in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar right eyebrow, nose broken, small white mark outside left wrist, scar right elbow. Sentenced at Birmingham, 6th January, 1898, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years police supervision for larceny ( person). Licence holder GEORGE WADDINGTON, alias BRAMMER, JENNINGS and NOON, Office No. 1011- 99, height 5 ft, 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scars head, forehead, left of neck, on back, and on back left hand, blue scars left fore and little fingers, on right upper arm, back right hand, front and outside right thigh. Sentenced at Manchester, 9th July, 1895, to 5 vears penal servitude for burglary. Licenced 12th April, 1899. V 277. Sentenced at West Riding Sessions, Wakefield, 7th April 1890, to 7 years penal servi- tude for larceny. Released on second licence 11th February last. 30.— Oldham ( Borough). — For stealing ( bailee) 12th inst., a safety bicycle, Dunlop tyres, slight drop frame, rat- trap pedals, straight handle bars, cork handles, steel tips, celluloid gear case, marked " Dover," 28- in. wheels, maker's name, " Bradbury," on bottom bar of frame, transfer ( Duke of Wellington) on head, no brake or mud- guards— A MAN, giving the name of GEORGE BODDEN, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion dark, hair dark brown, face badly pock marked ; dress, dark suit and cap. Native of Belper. 32.— Leicester ( Borough).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered).— JOHN ROSE, age 20, height 5 ft. 11J in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, brown birthmark below right nipple, small mole left shoulder blade. Is a deserter from the Leicestershire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leicester. NORFOLK. 33. — Docking ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) 4th ult,, at Hunstanton, a watch ( recovered) — FREDERICK HERBERT, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache grey ; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, light tweed trousers, black hard hat, carried a small leather hand bag. A travelling watch and clock cleaner. Is accompanied by a small dark woman, age about 30, whom he repre- sents as his wife. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Baldwin, Docking NORTHUMBERLAND. 34.— Morpeth ( County).— For assault and robbery— MICHAEL RILEY, age 33, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion sallow, hair brown ; dress, brown coat and vest, light trousers, brown cap. An auctioneer's clerk, native of Saffron Walden. He left on 10th March, 1807, accompanied by his wife, and 4 children under 7 years of age. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt.
