Numerous complaints have been received from persons living in the provinces respecting their business transactions with HYPOLITE & CO., greenhouse builders, etc., of Trundley's Road, Deptford. The man who trades under this name appears to do a legitimate business, but in such a careless and dilatory manner that his customers naturally suspect him of fraud. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( r/) The amount of the reward. Noexpression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdingout any expectation that the reward will be paid 011 its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularly directed to the conditions (/ 1) to (</), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( r).
