Particulars relative to convict HENRY FITZ- GIBBON, otherwise GIBBONS, otherwise M'DON- ALD, otherwise J. SMITH, otherwise BLACK, otherwise TUITE, C. 654, convicted at Omagh, County Tyrone Assizes, on 8th March, 1893, for larceny from the person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:... 62 years of age, can read and write; is a Roman Catholic; is a widower, with one child; is a dealer ; prison trade tailor; was born at Granard; resided before conviction at Belfast, where his friends reside ; gray hair, blue eyes, gray eyebrows, regular nose and mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3£ inches high, bald, lost several front teeth, small scars on right eyebrow, oorner of right eye, and right cheek, whitlow- mark on first finger left hand. This man was released from Maryboro' prison on 25th March last, on second order of licence, and went to Armagh, which place he left on 28th of same month, stating that he was going to Belfast; he did not re- port himself there, although it has been ascertained that he was there for a time, and his present where- abouts are unknown. If arrested he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vie., s. 5, c. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. Mr. Edwin Boake, Merchant, of Tullow- street Carlow :— Smart military appearance, clean ihaved except for reddish moustache; blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair rather bronzed complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 35 years of age, light sandy hair ; wore a white straw hat, coat, trowsers and vest of dark fl umel with white stripe i occupation unknown, said he was Major in the army. TRENCH name probably false), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 28th July, 1898, in the town of Carlow, barony of Carlow, parish of Carlow, obtained by false pretences a sum of £ 10 from • Cork. Description of DENIS CRONIN, native of Gloun- thane, near Mallow, who stands charged with having, on the 4th Augast, 1898, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Anne's, Shandon, unlawfully and felon- iously stolen and made away with five pigs, the pro perty of his master, Cornelius Smyth, of Glounthane, such pigs being value for about £ 7 :— High cheek bones, front teeth overlapping ; small dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, square face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 yearB of age, dark hair; wo » e a gray tweed cap, coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of a MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 18th July, 1898, in the barony of Cork, parish of Currykippane, stolen three heifers ( since recovered), value about £ 28, the pro- perty of Timothy Connors, of Clogheen, and sold the cattle at Donoughmore fair, on 19th July, 1898, for £ 22:— Thin hardy appearance, dark complexion, slight make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 40 years of age ; wore a dark coat and trowsers, old and worn ; looked like a blacksmith or shoemaker. Warrant issued. Ballincollig, 30th July, 1891 ( 53185 71229.) Description of a MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 20th July, 1898, in the barony of Muskerry East, parish of Ahabul- logue, stolen an ass's cart, the property of Daniel Dennehy, from his yard at Ahavrin, Coachford : — Sandy complexion, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 60 years of age, sandy taming gray hair, sandy side whiskers turning gray, chin shaven ; wore a black coat and trowsers; is a tinker or rag- gatherer. Accompanied by a woman, about 50 yearB of age, long freckled face, who wore an old gray shawl. Warrant issued. Ballincollig, 30th July, 1898. ( 53197 c 71259.) Description of MICHAEL HINCHIN ( mother's surname Cremin), native of Lyre, who stands charged with having, on the 11th of May, 1898, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonmeen, stolen five sheep, the property of Catherine Dunne:— Rather large teeth, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, regular make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, very small fair moustache ; wore a dark tweed coat, brown tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. Description of JOHN DOWNEY, native of Kil- meen, who stands charged with having, on the 10th April, 1898, in the barony of Kinalmeaky, parish of Ballymodan, indecently assanlted Mary Murphy :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray tweed cap, blue serge coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer; served in the army. Warrant in the hands of the District Inspector, Bandon. Bandon, 11th April, 1898. ( 51423 o.— 67809^ Dublin. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 27th, or morning of the 28th July, 1898, in the barony of Coolock, parish of Kilbarrack, stolen two heifers, the property of Mary Colins :— Sallow complexion, slight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair, and beard cut short, tinged with gray, and growing up close to eyes; wore a hard black hat, dinged in crown like Trilby, and long black coat. Is supposed to be the same person described in Hue- and- Cry, 27th May, 9th June, and 21st July, 1898, under Dublin County. Clontarf, 29th July, 1898. ( 53150 c.— 71174). Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th July, 1898, in the barony of Nethercross, parish of Kilsallaghan, stolen a heifer calf, value £ 4, from Mrs. Margaret Chapman :— Very dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet, 8 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair turning grey ; wore beard and whiskers clipped short, turning grey; wore a round, hard, black hat, very long, black overcoat, looks like a tramp. Is supposed to be the same person described in Hue- and- Cry of 23rd May, and 9th June, 1898, under Dublin county. Warrant issued and in the hands of the Sergeant at Ward. Lucan, 21st July, 1898, ( 53010 c — 70842.) Description of a MAN, unknown, but who gave fictitious name Patrick Byrne, of Kill- of- the- Grange, who stands charged with having, on the 5th May, 1898, in the barony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, stolen three calves, the property of Catherine Healy, which calves have been since recovered :— Brown eyes, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 40 or 45 years of age, short side whiskers, rest of face shaved, apparently has a weak voice ; wore a black hard hat, dark coat, brown trowsers, and dark vest ( jacket made), carried a dust coat on his arm. This man may be the same as the one described in Hue and- Cry of 23rd ult., under the name of Kelly ( county Dublin). The calves were de- scribed in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, 1898. ( 52027 c— 69131.) Galway. MICHAEL HEGGINS ( who left his home), de scribed in H ie'and- Cry of 10th June, has not yet been found. ( 597— H. c) THE POLIdfi GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, AUGUST 23, 1898. Kildare. Description of Dr. THOMAS JENKENS, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of July, J 898, at Monasterevan, in the barony of Offaly West, parish of Monasterevan, obtained a sum of £ 2 by false pretences, from Rev. Hugh M'Keag, of 67, Heytesbury- street, Dublin, by wiring to him in the name of Mr. T. H. Seale, and signing receipt for same in name of T. H. Seale :— Had right wrist bandaged as result of a bicycle accident, brown eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 33 years of age, brown hair; wore a white chip hat with red band, brown coat, brown knicker trowsers, brown vest; is supposed to belong to a bogus firm of Peat Fuel Manufacturers. Name is supposed t > be fictitious. Speaks fluently, has a red card case in his possession on which is written inside " Please admit Thomas Jenkins, royal Hospital, edinburgh." Warrant issued. Kildare, 24th July, 189a ( 53047 c.— 71013) Kilkenny. Description of THOMAS FLOOD, native of Rath- burton, Ballywilliam, county Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 19th May, 1898, at Garranabehy, in the barony of Ida, parish of Rosbercon, stolen a bicycle, the property of John Graingel, which has since been recovered :— shaves all the face except moustache, which is black, brown eye", thin nose, pale sallow complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair; wore a black cap, light gray tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a farm labourer. Warrant in hands of the Ser- geant at Rosbercon Thomastown, 8th July, 1898. ( 52843 c.— 70501.) Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 27th, or morning of 28th April. 1898, in the barony of Iverk, parish of Whitechurch, stolen a donkey's cart ( since recovered), the property of Thomas Walsh, of Whitechurch :— Bandy legs, shaves ail his face, stout make, low sized, about 50 or 55 years of age, whitish hair; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest, trowsers remarkably light at shins ; looks like a labourer. This man is believed to be David Murray, a tramp labourer, who works in county Kilkenny and adjoining counties, Warrant issued. Piltown. 3rd June. 1898. ( 51708 c— 69462). Description of WALTER WALSH ( mother's sur- name Gaule), native of Ballygriffin, who stands charged with having, on the 30th May, 1898, in the barony of Iverk, parish of Rathkeiran, indecently assaulted Ellen Lonergan:— Light sandy moustache, brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, active make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age, brown hair; wore a black sack coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest, and soft hat. Warrant issued. Piltown, June, 1898. ( 52279 o—- 69448.) Roscommon. Description of TIMOTHY BEIRNE, ( mother's surname Shanley), native of Derrylow, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of May, 1898, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Killukin, assaulted Patrick Feely, by throwing a piece of iron which struck Feely on the head, Beirne was on bail, but failed to appear at Croghan Petty Sessions, on 18th July, 1898, at the hearing of the case :— Cut- mark on top of fore- head caused by a blow received 9th May, 1898, grey eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age ; wore a grey tweed cap, blue serge trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. A warrant for this nan's arrest is in the hands of the District Inspector at Boyle. Boyle, 18th July, 1898. ( 52999 c— 70828.) King's Young Offender, JOHN LAGAN, not arrested, Hue- and- Cry of 27th May. ( 603 H. C.) Limerick. DAVID POWER ( cattle stealing), not arretted, Hue- and- Cry of 6th May. ( 51730 c.— 68413). DAVID LEAHY ( setting fire to dwelling, &;.), not arrested. Hue- and- Cry of 12th April. ( 51381 c.— 67737). JEREMIAH MULCAHY and THOMAS MUL- CAHY ( intimidation by firing shots), Hue and- Cry, 10th June, net arrested. ( 50824 66622). Louth. Description of E. T. FRENCH, alias Major STIRLING, 16th Lancers, who stands charged with having, on the 3Cth July, 1898, in the barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Dundalk, obtained from the National Bank £ 10, by presenting a worthless cheque signed " E. T. French, Major," and falsely representing himself as belonging to the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons :— Blue or gray eyes, long nose, sandy complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 40 years ol age, fair hair ; wore a straw hat, dark coat, trowsers and vest, all one pattern and having a white thread running down it at intervals, and yellow boots; military appearance ard good address ; sp ke with an English accent. Also wanted for similar offence com- mitted in county Carlow, see under ihat county. Warrant issued. Dundalk. 3rd A ugust, 1898. ( 53222 c.— 71319). Meath Description of PATRICK BYRNE ( supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the night of 10th instant, in the barony of Dunboyne, parish of Dunboyne, stolen four heifers, which he sold at Smithfield Market to Messrs. M'Donnell and Matthews ( through Salesmaster Delaney), the property of Matthew Bruton, a cattle exporter to Newcastle- cn- Tyne:— Brown eyes, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a short black beard and moustache; a round black jerry hat, long black over- coat, tweed trowsers and vest, tan boots; believed to be same person described under county Dublin, 9/ 6/ 98. Warrant issued and in hands of Sergeant of Dunboyne. Dunshaughlin, 14th August, 1898. ( 53377 c.— 71654). Sligo. THOMAS BRACKEN ( serious assault), not arrested. Hue- and- Cry of 29th April. ( 51482 c.— 67930). Tipperary. Description of MICHAEL HOGAN, native of Killenaule, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of July, 1898, at Thurles, in the barony of Eliogarty, parish of Thurles, uttered and presented for payment at the Munster and Leinster Bank, with ntent to defraud, a cheque for £ 20 sterling, purporting to be signed by one John Maher :— Bather smart appearance, blue or gray eyes, short thick nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair ; wore a tweed cap, brown tweed coat, trowsers and vest; _ is_ a labourer. Warrant in the hands of the District Inspector at Cashel. Thurles, 2nd August, 1898. ( 53215 c.— 71297). Waterford. Description of HENRY J. KENNEDY, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 9th March, 1898, in the Municipal Borough, parish of Trinity Within, while acting in the capacity of clerk for the Clyde Shipping Company, embezzled the sum of £ 3, the property of his employers :— Two upper front teeth decayed, clean shaved, walks heavily with a long step, generally keeps his hands in trowsers pockets; brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a blue serge suit; is a clerk. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and is in the hands of the District Inspector, Waterford. Waterford, 29th June, 1898. ( 52706 c— 70229.) Westmeath. Description of MARY ANNE M'GRAIL, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 6th May, 1898, in the barony of Moyashel and Magherdernon, parish of Mullingar, unlawfully and wilfully abandoned and exposed her infant child Mary Anne M'Grail, about three weeks old, in a manner likely to cause such child unnecessary suffering and injury to its health:— Upper front teeth slightly pro- jecting, full blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, about 25 or 26 years of age, brown hair; wore a black hat, black shawl, dark gray dress, laced boots ; believed to be a servant. Warrant issued and in hands of D. I. Mullingar. Mullingar, 10th May, 1898. ( 51897c.—- 68686.) Wexford JOHN NOLAN ( indecent assault), described in Hue- and'Cry of 10th June, not arrested. ( 50237 c 65184). Wicklow. Description of JOHN MORAN, native of Baltin- glass, who stands charged with having, on the 25th June, 1898, in the barony of Lower Talbotstown, parish of Hollywood, stolen a purse and three £ 1 notes, one pound in silver, and two receipts for County Cess, from the person of one Joseph Egar, of New- town:— Lame, left leg shorter than right, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high; about 45 years of age, sandy hair; wore a brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and thatcher. Warrant issued and in hands of D. I., Dunlavin. Dunlavin, 29th June, 1898. ( 52707 c — 70230). Description of licensed convict THOMAS MOORE, alias KELLY, c. 893, native of Kilcoole, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilcoole, and county Wicklow who stands charged with having failed to report himself to police,:— Cross and dots tattooed on back of left hand, scar on left cheek, cut- mark on 13& side of head, cross and four dots tattooed on back of right hand, also anchor ( indistinct), burn- mark on back of left hand, cross and two dots tattooed on left forearm, varicose veins on right leg, burn- mark on back of right hand, near thumb, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round face, proportionate make, 5 feet 4f inches high, about 43 years of age, light brown hair; is a labourer. This man was sentenced to three years' penal servi- tude at Wicklow, 29th October, 1895, and was liberated from Maryboro' Prison on 27th January, 1898, to reside at Kilcoole, county Wicklow ; he failed to report himself to the police in April last, and his present whereabouts are unknown. Bray, 6th May, 1898. ( 51823 68568.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. Particulars relative to convict PATRICK KELLY C. 702, otherwise PATRICK BRIDE, otherwise' PATRICK KEARNS, convicted at Dublin City Commission, on frd August, 1893, for being found concealed during night with intent to commit felony, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, from 2nd August, 1893 :— 43 years of age on conviction ; can read and write ; is a Roman Catholic; single; is a labourer ; prison trade— tailor; born at Dublin, where he resided before conviction ; gray hair, gray eyes, gray eyebrows, ordinary nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 6J inches high, cut- mark left temple, blue dot back of right hand at thumb, mark of sore on calf left leg. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on the 16th inst., on 2nd order of licence. He reported^ himself to the D. M. Police on same date, but as he was unable to give the address of the place where he intended to reside, he was instructed to return as soon ae he found a suitable lodging, but he did not do so, consequently his present whereabouts are not known. If arrested he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vie., s. 5, c. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 18th August, 1898. ( 621 H. O.) Description of MARY KELLY who stands charged with having, on 25th day of July, 1898, at Berkeley- road, City of Dublin, wilfully abandoned her male infant, aged nine days, in a manner likely to cause it injury to its health :— She is about 26 or 28 years of age, tall and thin, dark hair and complexion, dressed in black cloth tight- fitting jacket, dark green skirt, dark woollen wrapper, white sailor hat and black band. She is alleged to be a native of Gormanstown, county Meath, and she stated she knew the town of Dunleer well. She may be found at Drogheda, Balbriggan, Skerries, or some of the coast towns about there. Warrant is in the bands o Superintendent Lanktree. Detective Department, Exchange- court, Dublin, 13th August, 1898. ( 619— H. C.) Particulars relative to convict WILLIAM BYRNE, otherwise EDWARD GIBBONS, otherwise PATRICK MULVEY, c. 884, convicted at Dublin General Quarter Sessions, on 11th October, 1895, for shopbreaking, and sentenced to 3 years penal servitude from 27th August, 1895 :— 20 years of age on con- viction ; can read and write; is a Koman Catholic ; single ; is a sailor; prison trade labourer ; bern at Mullingar, county Westmeath; no fixed residence before convict ion ; his friends reside in Dublin ; brown hair, hazel eyes, broim eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3J inches high, large scar on right hand ( outside) near wrist, scald- mark on both legs. This man reported himself to the D. M. Police on the 6th ultimo, on his release from Kilmainham Prison, where he had undergone two months imprisonment for failing to report, and went to reside at the " Shelter," Poolbeg- street, which place he has left and his present whereabouts are not known. If arrested he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., sec. 5, cap. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 9th June, 1898. ( 608 H. C.) Licensed convict MARY ROWAN, alias CARROLL, & c. MULLIGAN, alias JOHN BRIEN, c. 904 ( failing to report himself), Hue- and- Cry, 10th June, not yet arrested. ( 586 H. c.) ENGLISH POLICE. Glamorganshire. Absconded from Porthcawl on the 5th July, 1898, charged on a warrant with stealing £ 50, the property of H. M. Postmaster- General, WILLIAM HUGH CLATWORTHY, late Sub Postmaster About 35 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh and freckled complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes, light brown whiskers and moustache closely trimmed and pointed, probably he may have since clean shaven ; prominent eyes, which are bloodshot from excessire drinking ; he is of a very nervous temperament, bald on front part of head, and has a small tuft of hair in centre; back of both hands are freckled; walks erect, smartly; fond of company and talkative; dressed when last seen in a dark brown jacket and vest, light trowsers, lace up bools, and bowler hat; was a prominent member of the Wesleyan Connexion. Wanted on Magistrate's Warrant, charged with fraud, at Dalbeattie, on the 29th June, by presenting a bank cheque to a merchant there for £ 7 10s. 6d, on THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY. AUGUST 1?, 1898. the Bank of Scotland, at Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, payable to Edwin Arunold Jenkins, and bearing to be drawn by E. O. Critchley, stating that, the banks were closed for the day, and asking the merchant to oblige him by cashing the cheque, which he did, and when presented at the Bank of Scotland, at Annan, there was no such person known there. The same person is supposed to have presented another cheqne on the Bank of Scotland, Annan, at Larne, Ireland, on the 2nd July, but when enquiry was being made about him he absconded leaving the cheque with the person to whom he presented it:— Age about 35 or 40 years, about 5 feet 9 inches in height, fair hair, fair moustache, and reddish complexion, spoke with an English accent; dressed in a brownish tweed jacket, knickerbocker suit, and single peaked cap, same pattern as clothes. ANIMALS 8TOLEN Dublin Description of a heifer, the property of Christopher Dunne, which was stolen from the lands of Kilbarrack Upper, parish of Kilbarrack, barony of Coolock, between Wednesday evening the 27th and 8 a. m. on 29th July, 1898:— Red and white colour, large size, in good condition, and value for £ 13, crumpled horns, lame in hind leg from the effect of a crack in the heel, branded with figure 1 or 2 on one horn. Description of two heifers, the property of Mary Collins, of Kilbarrack Lower, which were stolen from the lands of Kilbarrack Lower, parish of Kilbarrack, barony of Coolock, on the night of the 27th, or morning of the 28th July, 1898:— No. I. Deep red colour, dull looking, short horns, rather thin condition, about one- and- a- half years old, and value for about £ 7. No. 2. Light red colour, white star on forehead, some white at tip and root of tail, and on back and belly, and also on forelegs, rather long horns, one- and- a- half years old, and value for about £ 7. P., which is alleged to have been stolen from the lands of Ballyturn, parish of Kilbecanty, barony of Kiltartan, on the night of 23rd or morning of 24th of July, 1898:— A gray milch cow, rising 4 years of age, and branded on right horn with letters " B. Roscommon Description of n bullock, the property of Michael Leyden, of Cartronglough ( Kea lue Sub- district), which it is suspected was stolen from the mountain at Car tronglcugh, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Kilronan on the 26th July, 1898, viz.:— A pale yellow bullock having a small white speck on one flank and another probably on forehead, one year old, and value for £ 5 Information sworn. Description of the following articles of wearing apparel found in possession of James O'Brien, alias Thomas Walbridge, who is at present on remand in Cork Gaol, on the charge ot having stolen same, and also a donkey cart which has been identified:— J. A white and black coloured shawl, new flowered all over with black spot on white ground, white selvage mixed with black spots near the verges, two rows of black dots on one side and tbree on the other side. 2. A man's coat, black colour, with slight shade of brown running through, quite nbW and apparently never worn. 3. A trowsers, pepper- and- salt colour, new and never worn, would fit a boy of 16 years of age, No. 3 size, " No. 28175. )/- and D/ E." on shop label sewed on waist band behind. 4. One calico shirt, linen front, nearly new, re ently wasted but not made up, man's size. 5. One old shirt ( man's size), striped red and blue, cotton, recently washed but not made up, had three patches of red cross- bar cotton pieces on right sleeve, elbow and shoulder recently sewed on. 6. One fine calico apron, having breast- piece and neck string attached. 7. One coarse calico apron, rather roughly sewn up. 8. One towel, double- twilled, unicorn and lion repre- sented on both ends and crown between; one small- sized gray skirt ( woman's), trimmed with brown velvet on back. 9. One military gray shirt, half- worn, having name, & c, " Joseph O'Brien, Bantry, Draper," on inside of neck- band. 10. Two pairs of stockings, one pair halt worn, the second pair in good order, dark gray colour, red dots on thread throughout 11. Two pairs of long cycle stockings, black colour and ribbed, letter H shop- mark pinned on each stocking. 12. A few half- worn calico sheets and a piece of ticking- canvas material made up for a bed- tick with blue and white stripe running through.
