C. 654, convicted at Omagh, County Tyrone Assizes, on 8th March, 1893, for larceny from the person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:... 62 years of age, can read and write ; is a Roman Catholic ; is a widower, with one child ; is a dealer ; prison trade tailor; was born at Granard ; resided before conviction at Belfast, where his friends reside ; gray hair, blue eyes, gray eyebrows, regular nose and mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3| inches high, bald, lost several front teeth, Bmall scars on right eyebrow, corner of right eye, and right cheek, whitlow- mark on first finger left hand. This mnm was released from Maryboro' prison on 25th March last, on second order of licence, and went to Armagh, which place he left on 28th of same month,, stating that he was going to Belfast; he did not re- port himself there, although it has been ascertained that he was there for a time, and his present where abouts are unknown. Description of MICHAEL HINCHIN ( mother's surname Cremin), native of Lyre, who stands charged with having, on tho 11th of May, 1898, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Clonmeen, stolen five sheep, the property of Catherine Dunne:— Rather large teeth blue eyes, regular nose, fair oomplexion, thin face, regular make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair, very smaM fair moustache ; wore a dark tweed coat, brown tweed trowsers and vest is a Thbosier. ^ Warrant issued. Description of JOHN DOWNEY, native of Kil- meen, who stands charged with having, on the 10th April, 1898, in the barony of Kinalmeaky, parish of Ballymodan, indecently assaulted Mary Murphy : — Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray tweed cap, blue serge coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer; served in the army. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 27th, or morning of the 28th July, 1898, in the barony of Coolock, parish of Kilbarrack, stolen two heifers, the property of Mary Collins :— Sallow complexion, slight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair, and beard cut short, tinged with gray, and growing up close to eyes; wore a hard black hat, dinged in crown like Trilby, and long black coat. Is supposed to be the same person described in Hue- and- Cry. 27th May, 9th June, and 21st July, 1898, under Dublin County. Clontarf, 29th July, 1898. ( 53150 c.— 71174). Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th July, 1898, in the barony of Nethercross, parish of Kilsallaghan, stolen a heifer calf, value £ 1, from Mrs. Margaret Chapman :— Very dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet, 8 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair turning grey ; wore beard and whiskers clipped short, turning grey : wore a round, hard, black hat, very long, black overcoat, looks like a tramp. Is supposed to be the same person described in Hue- and- Cry of 23rd May, and 9th June, 1898, under Dublin county. Warrant issued and in the hands of the Sergeant at Ward. Lucan, 21st July, 1898. Description o( a MAN, unknown, but who gave fictitious name Patrick Byrne, of Kill- of- the- Grange, who stands charged with having, on the 5th May, 1898, in tine baiony of Uppercross, parish of Tallaght, stolen three calves, the property of Catherine Healy, which calves have been since recovered :— Brown eyes, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 40 or 45 years of age, short side whiskers, rest of ( ace slvaved, apparently has a weak voice ; wore a black hard hat, dark coat, brown trowsers, and dark vest ( jacket made) carried a dust coat on his arm. This man may be the same as the one described in Hue and- Cry of 23rd ult., under the name of Kelly ( county Dublin). The calves were de- scribed in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, 1898. Warrant is in hands of District Inspector at Dundrum. Dundrum, 9th June, 1898. ( 51850 c 6? 619.) Man, stated to be E « - ned KELLY ( cattle stealing not arrested. hue- and- Cry of ? 7( h May. ( 52027 c.— 69131.) Galway. Description of a WOMAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 8th June, 1898, at Galway, in the barony of Galway, parish of St. Nicholas, unlawfully abandoned a male child, aged about 4 months, so as to endanger its life : Rather good- looking, and respectable appear- ance, rather high forehead, fair cemplexion, rather long tace, medium make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, between 30 and 35 years of age, fair hair; wore a dark skirt and a light brown shawl Warrant issued, and in the hands of the Royal Irish constabulary at Galway. Galway, 9th June, 1898. ( 52364 c.— 69598). MICHAEL HEGGINS ( who left his home), de scribed in Hue- and- Cry of 10th June, has not yet been found. ( 597— H. C.) Kildare. Description of Dr. THOMAS JENKENS, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of July, 1898, at itfonasterevan, in the barony of Oflaly West, parish of Monasterevan, obtained a sum of £ S by false pretences, frona Rev. Hugh M'Keag, of 67, Heytesbury- street, Dublin, by wiring to him in the name of Mr. T. H. Seale, and signing receipt for same in name of T. H. Seale :— Had right wri6t bandaged as result of a bicycle accident, brown eyes, regular noie, florid complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 33 years of age, brown hair ; wore a white chip hat with red band, brown coat, brown knicker trowsers, brown vest; is supposed to bolong to a bogus fircn of Peat Fuel Manufacturers. Name is supposed t > be fictitious. Speaks fluently, has a red card case in his possession on which is written inside " Please admit Thomas Jenkins, Royal Hospital, Edinburgh." Warrant issued. Kildare, 24th July, 1898. ( 5.1047 c.— 71013). Kilkenny. Description of THOMAS FLOOD, native of Rath- burton, Ballywilliam, county wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 19th May, 1898, at Garranabehy, in the barony of Ida, parish of Rosbercon, stolen a bicycle, the property of John Graingel, whicfi has since been recovered :— shaves all the face except moustache, which is black, brown eye?, thin nose, pale sallow complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, atxmt 26 years of age, blaok hair ; wore a black cap, light gray tweed coat, trowsers and vast; is a farm labourer. Warrant in hands of the Ser- geant at Rosbercon Thomas town, 8th July, 1898. ( 52843 c.— 70501.) Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 27th, or morning of 28th April. 1893, in the barony of Iverk, parish of Whitechurch, stolen a donkey's cart ( since recovered), the property of Thomas Walsh, of Whitechurch :— Bandy legs, shaves all his face, stout make, low sized, about 50 or 55 years of age, whitish liair ; wore a dark ooat, trowsers, and vest, trowsers remarkably fight at shins ; looks like a labourer. This man is believed to bo David Murray, a tramp labourer, who works in county Kilkenny and adjoining countier. Warrant issued. Piltown. 3rd J. uue. 1898. Description of WALTER WALSH ( mother's sur- name Gaule), native of Ballygriffin, who stands charged with having, on the 30th May, 1898, in the barony of Iverk, parish of Rathkeiran, indecently assaulted Ellen Lonergan:- Light sandy moustache, brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, active make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age brown hair; wore a black sack coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest, and soft hat. Description of JOHN HAYDEN, native of Longford, who stands charged with having, on the 27th or 28th of May, 1898, in the barony of Kilcoursey, parish of Kilbride, stolen an ass ( since recovered), the property of one Patrick Lowrey, of Raheen, Kings county:— Tattooed on hand, ring tattooed on finger, blue colour, blue eyes, sharp pointed nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 28 or 30 years of age. fair hair; wore a dark tweed sack coat, bright tweed trowsers and vest ; is'a tramp. DAVID POWER ( cattle stealing), not arrested. Hne- and- Cry of 6th May. ( 51730 c— 68413). DAVID LEAHY ( getting fire to dwelling, & j.), not arrested. Hue- and- Cry of 12th April. ( 51381c.— 67737). JEREMIAH MULCAHY and THOMAS MUL- CAHY ( intimidation by firing shots), Hue- and- Cry, 10th June, not arrested. ( 50824 c— 66622). Mayo. Description of ALAN SUTHERLAND, convicted at Castlebar Assizes, 14th July, 1898, and sentenced to seven years' penal servitude in two cases of horse- stealing from Rossport, district of Belmullet:— Bluish gray eyes, large regular nose, florid com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10£ inches high in stocking feet, 40 years of age, looks younger, brown hair turning gray ; particular marks, mole on back of neek and left side of neck, right side, mole on top of forearm, little finger of hand crooked and also ruptured on this side, left side, mole on top of forearm and third toe crooked. Known to English police as Henry Aiken ( aonvict No. 430,5/ 8/ 9I), alias Henry Alexander Chamberlain, Captain Hugh Darcy Commerrell, Earl of Elgin and Earl of Arlie, and had thirteen previous convic ions proved against him at Castlebar. Belmullet, 28th July, 1893. ( 52,559 c.— 70,003). Roscommon. Description of TIMOTHY BEIRNE, ( mother's surname Shanley), native of Derrylow, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of May, 1898, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Killukin, assaulted Patrick Feely, by throwing a piece of iron which struck Feely on the head. Beirne was on bail, but failed to appear at Croghan Petty Sessions, on 18th July, 1898, at the hearing of the case :— Cut- mark on top of fore- head caused by a blow received 9th May, 1898, grey eyes, cocked nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 yeirs of age ; wore a grey tweed cap, blue serge trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. A warrart for this man's arrest is in the hands of the District Inspector at Boyle. Boyle, 18th July, 1893. ( 52999 c._ 70828.) Sligo. THOMAS BRACKEN ( serious assault), not arrested. Hue and- Cry of 29th April ( 51482 c.— 67930.) Tipperary. Description of JOHN HAMMERSLEY, ( mother's surname O'Donnell), native of Knockanavar, county Tipperary, * ho stands charged with having, on the 7th July, at I oem, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper parish of Toem, seriously assaulted one John Mahony' Senior, by striking him on the head with a stone whereby his life is in imminent danger :— old cut mark on top of head, rather large head, very high clieek bones giving face square appearance, gray or blue eyes, rather cocked nose, red complexion, stout square active make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 40 years of a^ e foxy hair : wore a bluish tweed suit, ( sack make coa° t\ shaves all face except monstache which is foxy; is'a farmer. May endeavour to go to England or Scotland. Information sworn and warrant issued. Cappawhite, 9th July, 1898. ( 52862 c.— 70542.) Description of MARY RYAN, " Chickeen," native of Cullen, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 6th July, 1898, at Cutteen, in the bar ony of Clanwilliam, parish of Sologheadmore, stolen from the dwelling- house ol Bridget Whelan, where she had obtained lodging, one woollen shawl ( spots on selvage), one body jacket ( lined black calico), one new calico chemise, three dozen of eggs, and a stone of Indian- meal, all value abont £ 1 10s.:— Is enciente, small sunken eyes, rather cocked nose; sallow com- plexion, medium make, 4 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age ; wore a whitish shawl, black jacket and drees, red petticoats, and laced boots; is a tramp. This woman is supposed identical with female unknown, described under county Tipperary, first appeared in Hue- and- Cry of 21st June, 1898. Information sworn and warrant to arrest issued. Cappawhite, 9th July, 1898. ( 52862 c.— 70542.) Description of a FEMALE, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 16th June, 1898, in the barony of Kilnemanagh Lower, parish of Clogher, feloniously stolen a pair of girl's laced boots, almost new, a black skirt, and a blue jacket ( white spots), the property of Johanna Hogan, in whose father's house she had obtained a night's lodging:— supposed enceinte, blue sunken eyes, cocked nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 4 feet 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown hair ; is a tramp. May be wearing some of the stolen articles. Warrant issued. Cappawhite, 19th June, 1893. * ( 52522 o.— 69906.) Waterford. Description of HENRY J. KENNEDY, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 9th March, 1898, in the Municipal Borough, parish of Trinity Within, while acting in the capacity of clerk for the Clyde Shipping Company, embezzled the sum of £ 3, the property of his employers :— Two upper front teeth decayed, clean shaved, walks heavily with a long step, generally keeps his hands in trowsers pockets; brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a blue serge suit; is a clerk. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and is in the hands of the District Inspector, Waterford. Waterford, 29th June, 1898. ( 52706 c.— 70229.) Westmeath. Description of MARY ANNE M'GRAIL, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 6th May, 1898, in the barony of Moyashel and Magherdernon, parish of Mullingar, unlawfully and wilfully abandoned and exposed heir infant child Mary Anne M'Grail, about three weeks old, in a manner likely to cause such child unnecessary suffering and injury to its health:— Upper front teeth slightly pro- jecting, full blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, about 25 or 26 years of age, brown hair; wore a black hat, black shawl, dark gray dress, laced boots ; believed to be a servant. Warrant issued and in hands of D. I. Mullingar. Mullingar, 10th May, 1898. ( 51897c 68686.) Wexford JOHN NOLAN ( indecent assault), described in Hue- and Cry of 10th June, not arrested. ( 50237 c 65184). WIcklow. Description of JOHN MORAN, native of Baltin- glass, who stands charged with having, on the 25th June, 1898, in the barony ot Lower Talbotstown, parish of Hollywood, stolen a purse and three £ 1 notes, one pound in silver, and two receipts for County Cess, from the person of one Joseph Egar, of New- town i— Lame, left leg shorter than right, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high; about 45 years of age, sandy hair; wore a brown tweed coat, trotvsers, and vest; is a labourer and thatcher. Warrant issued and in hands of D. I., Dunlavin. Dunlavin, 29th June, 1898. ( 52707 c — 70230). Description of licensed convict THOMAS MOORE alias KELLY, c. 893, native of Kilcoole, in the' barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilcoole, and county Wicklow wbo stands charged with having failed to report himself to police, Cross and dots tattooed on back of left hand, 6car on left cheek, cut- mark on lift side of head, cross and four dots tattooed on back of right hand, also anchor ( indistinct), burn- mark on back of left hand, cross and two dots tattooed on left forearm, varicose veins on right leg, burn- mark on back of right' hand, near thumb, blue eyes, fresh complexion, round face, proportionate make, 5 feet 4J inches high, about 43 years of age, light brown hair ; is a labourer. This man was sentenced to three years' penal servi- tude at Wicklow, 29th October, 1895, and was liberated from Maryboro' Prison on 27th January 1898, to reside at Kilcoole, county Wicklow ; he failed' to report himself to the police in April last, and his present whereabouts are unknown. Particulars relative to convict WILLIAM BYRNE, otherwise EDWARD GIBBONS, otherwise PATRICK MULVEY, c. 884, convicted at Dublin General Quarter Sessions, on 11th October, 1895, for shopbreaking, and sentenced to 3 years penal servitude from 27th August, 1895:— 20 years of age on con- viction ; can read and write ; is a Koman Catholic ; single; is a sailor; prison trade labourer; born at Mullingar, county Westmeath; no fixed residence before conviction ; his friends reside in Dublin ; brown hair, hazel eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 3} inches high, large scar on right I hand ( outside) near wrist, scald- mark on both legs. This man reported himself to the D. M. Police on the 6th ultimo, on his release from Kilmainham Prison, where he had undergone two months imprisonment for failing to report, and went to reside at the '^ Shelter,' Poolbeg- street, which place he has left and his present whereabouts are not known. If arrested he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., sec. 5, cap. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 9th June, 1898. ( 608 H. C.) Licensed convict MARY ROWAN, alias CARROLL, & c. MULLIGAN, alias JOHN BRIEN, c. 904 ( failing to report himself), Hue- and- Cry, I Oth June, not yet arretted. ( 586 H. C.) ENGLISH POLICE. Glamorganshire. Description of WILLIAM HUGH CLAT. WORTHY, Sub- Postmaster of . Porthcawl, R. S. O., Glamorgan, who absconded on 5th inst., having com- mitted numerous embezzlements of Savings' Bank deposits, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest:— Age about 37, looks older, height 5 feet 7 or 8 inches, complexion fresh showing signs of heavy drinking, eyes full and bloodshot, hair brown, whiskers cut short to a point, has nervous habit when spoken to of twirling his moustache, slovenly gait, agreeable in manner, dressed when last seen in dark brown jacket and vest, light trowsers, lace- up boots. Information should be addressed to " The Director, Confidential Enquiry Branch," G. P. O. London. The information should be telegraphed if considered expedient, the telegraphic address of the Director being " Philips, G. P. O." 28th July, 1898. ( 617 H. C.) Hampshire. Absconded from Alton, in this county, on the 7th instant, charged with stealing £ 100, the property of his employer:— ARCHIBALD FORD, about 35 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, dark brown hair ( frizzed), moustache, broad shoulders, about 14 stones waight; of good appearance and address ; is an inveterate smoker ; supposed to be dressed in black hard felt hat and gray tweed suit, white collar, red tie ; carried two leather hand bags ; is a solicitor's c'erk. ' l'his man had in his possession when he absconded £ 45 in gold, and £ 55 in i! 5- Bank of England Notes, numbered— C/ 76/ 09932 to C/ 76/ 09940 and C/ 7 9/ 87753 and 4. it is suspected that the accused may en- deavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Superintendent G. JAMES, Police Office, Alton. 12th July, 1898. ( 614 H. C.) SCOTCH POLICE. Kirkcudbrightshire. Wanted on Magistrate's Warrant, charged with fraud, ut Dalbeattie, on the 29th J une, by presenting a bunk cheque to a merchant there for £ 7 10s. 6d., on the Bank ol Scotland, at Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, payable to Edwin Arunold Jenkins, and bearing to be drawn by E. O. Critchley, stating that the banks were closed for the day, and asking the merchant to oblige him by cashing the cheque, which he did, and when presented at the Bank ot Scotland, at Annun, there was no such person known there. The tame person is supposed to have presented another cheque on the Bank of Scotland, Annan, at Larne, Ireland, on the 2nd July, but when enquiry was bekig made about him he absconded leaving the cheque with the person to whom be presented it:— Age about 35 or 4d years about 5 feet 9 inches in height, fair hair, fair moustache, and reddish complexion, tpoke with an English accent; dressed in a brownish tweed jacket, knit kerbocker suit, and single peaked cap, same pattern as clothes. The dead body of a newly- born male CHILD was found at 7 a. m. on 17th July, 1898, in a hedge on the west side of the road leading from Millar- place to Queenshaugh, in this Burgh. The body was wrapped in a copy of the " Scotsman" newspaper, dated 18th June, 1898, surrounded with a piece of brown paper, bearing a parcel label addressed " Messrs. Walker & Coy., Drapers, Grangemouth, from Hunter, Barr & Coy., Ltd., Glasgow, dated 6th May, 1898, per pass, train," and tied with a piece of common twine. lrom a post mortem examination of the body it has been learned that the child lived, and that death was due to haemorrhage. Please cause particular search and inquiry to be made with the view of finding the mother, or the person who put the child where it wqp found, and communicate any information obtained to THOS. Description of a donkey, property of William Lyons, which was stolen, or strayed, from the lands of Old Head of Kinsale, parish of Ringrone, barony of Gourdes, on the 25th June, 1898:— A mouse- coloured donkey, aged about 5 years, and in foal, shod on all feet, shoes not calked, about 10^ hands high, hind legs straddled when walking, clipped about 2 months ago; has a lump on right hip under skin about the size of a shilling, being the mark of an old cut, bare in small of back, half- Spanish breed; value for £ 4. Dublin Desciiption of two heifers, the property of Mary Collins, of Kilbarrack Lower, which were stolen from the lands of Kilbarrack Lower, parish of Kilbarrack, barony of Coolock, on the night of the 27th, or morning of the 28th July, 1898:— No. 1. Deep red colour, dull looking, short horns, rather thin condition, about one- and- a- half years old, and value for about £ 7. No. 2. Light red colour, white star on forehead, some white at tip and root of tail, and on back and belly, and also on forelegs, rather long horns, onc- and- a- half years old, and value for about £ 7. Description of cattle, the property of Edmund Casey and Thomas Kearney, which are believed to have been stolen from the lands of Edmund Casey, parish of Ballymacelligott, barony of Trughenackemy, on the morning of 1st July, 1898;— 3 bullocks, spotted red and white; 5 heifers, nearly red; 3 heifers, black; 4 heifers, roan or brindle. Description of an ass, the property of James Walsh, of Dowross which was stolen from the lands of Dowross, parish oTOUmactigue, barony of Leyney, on the 23rd June, 1898:— A mare ass, brownish colour, three or four years old, two large teeth above, and two below, is setting the next round. Left foremost hoof a little split, was dressed by a blacksmith, right foremost hoof turned up, also dressed by a blacksmith, short tail, large size, value for about £ 2 10*. Wateriord Description of four head of cattle, the property of Mrs. Ellen Durand, which were stolen from the lands of Garranmillion Lower, parish of Kilrossenty, barony of Decies- without- Drum, on the night of 29th or morning of 30th June, 1898:— ( 1.) Roan colour bullock, holds his head as if he had staggers, two years old, value for about £ 7 10$. ( 2.) Red bullock, two years old, value for about £ 7 10*. ( 3 ) Spotted red and white heifer, had a scar in tail which is now healed, two years old, value for about £ 8. ( 4.) Red heifer, two years old, value for about £ 8.
