AU announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF IHE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signal ure of an officer'of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and axe alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. ' l'heforcewhich causes particulars concerning delinquents or sto'en property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be receivtd not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday mornina. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied 4 by a covering letter. e 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. A number of copies of the POLICE GAZETTE have recently been returned to the Editor by the Postal Authorities, not having been properly despatched by the Contractor, and the Editor will be glad if Chief Constables will communicate to him particulars of cases in which their files of the GAZETTE are incomplete, in order that the deficiency may at once be made good. Lately employed as collector by the Gas Light and Coke Co., Limited. Native of Finsbury, London. Warrant issued. 2.— G Division.— For stealing ( bailee) a cheque for £ 28 15s.— JOHN LOWING, qlias JO& BPH LOWINES, age 42, height 5 ft. G in.-, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel; dross, light dust coat, light tweed trousers, brown hard felt hat. Na- tive of Cambridge. Warrant issued. 3.- ult.— ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion, hair, moustache and eyes dark; dress, light overcoat, light check suit, black hard felt hat with rather broad flat brim. A veterinary surgeon's assistant; supposed native of Malton, Yorks, and to have friends at Birmingham. Warrant issued. 4.— L Division.— For stealing from his lodgings, £ 108 15s.— JAMES ARTHUR WEST, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair light, eyes blue, large gear on one leg; dress, blue serge double- breasted jacket and vest, dark striped trousers ( supposed), brown hat. Native of Bristol. 5.— P Division.— For robbery with violence, at Bromley, Kent, on 19th ult.— JAMES REEVES, alias WESTERHAM, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes brown; dress, grey coat and trou- sers, black hard felt hat, heavy lace boots ( all old). Native of Bromley Common. JAMES BAKER, age 27, height 6 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, varicose veins in legs, cut scar back of left hand ; dress, long black overcoat, grey trousers and cap, heavy lace boots. Native of Selhurst, Croydon. Previously convicted at Bromley and Maidstone. THOMAS, alias CREASY YOUNG, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, hair ( cut short) light; drees, long dark uhter, light cord trousers, light tweed cap, lace boots. Native of Bromley Common. Is well known in Kent and Surrey. Warrant issued. 6.— Y Division.— For stealing 3 silver alberts, curb pattern, red and green seals attached; 1 gold signet ring, monogram " G. C. W." thereon; 2 silk handkerchiefs ( 1 white, 1 brown and green); 2 blue serge suits ( 1 double, 1 single- breasted), " Driscoll" on tabs; 1 black coat and vest; 1 pair tweed trou- sers ; 1 silver seal, ship shape, with compass in centre and 3 coins attached; 1 soft felt hat, " Moore, South- ampton," inside ; 1 small pearl- handle pocket- knife; 1 black leather purse— JAMES FITZGIBBONS. age 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair ( freckled), hair and moustache light, scar on bridge of nose, bracelet left wrist, in red and blue ink ; supposed wearing stolen clothes. CUMBERLAND. 7.— Cockermouth ( County).— For cattle- steal- ing— JOHN WILLIAM ELLIS, alias McALLISTER. age 21, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, square shoul- ders, complexion sallow, hair light brown, slight dark moustache, eyes grey, of smart appearance; dress, dark brown jacket suit, black hard hat, stand- up collar, liffht brown boots. A groom and boots: native of Cockermouth. May endeavour to join an Association football team, or to leave for South Africa. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. DENBIGHSHIRE. 5.— Wrexham ( County).— Concerned with 2 men in custody, for stealing wearing apparel, 3rd inst.. at Llangollen— JOHN THOMAS, alias JACK BRYMBO, age 26, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes grey, lost front tooth upper jaw left side. A labourer. Tramps Merioneth, Denbigh and Flint. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Jones, Wrexham. DURHAM. 10.— Gateshead ( Borougli).— Portrait and des- cription of JOHN SCOTT, whose apprehension is sought for stealing £ 135, age 28, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, slight light moustache,.. long nose, large nostrils. Speaks North country dialect. A publican's manager. Dress ( when last seen), brown overcoat with velvet collar, dark jacket and vest, light plaid trousers, light cap. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Trotter, Gateshead. 11.— Durham ( City).— For stealing, 2nd inst., 1 lady's silver lever watch, maimer " Jacoby, Sunder- land "; 1 lady's silver albert, with Faith, Hope, and Charity appendage— JAMES McCANN, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., very stout build, full round, face, hair and moustache light, wart centre of forehead, speaks with Irish accent; dress, black jacket and vest, brown check trousers, brown peak cap. Stated he had served as a gunner in, the 18th Company Southern Division Royal Artillery, and returned from India in August last. Was employed as a probationary warder in Durham Prison from 29th September last to 2nd inst., when he absconded. Has had letters addressed to public- houses in names of JAMES McGAHAN, McLAUGHLIN and JOHN MORRISON. May en- deavour to seek employment as temporary Prison Warder. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 12.— Saffron Walden ( County).— On commit- ment warrant having been sentenced to 2 months imprisonment for aggravated assault—- CHARLES THOMAS PERRY, age 36, height about 5 ft. 4 in., rather stout build, complexion, hair, very heavy moustache and eyes dark, round face. A Lance- Qorpoml of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, and may be wearing uniform trousers. Native of Rugby. Information to Supt. Silver, Gosport. 17.— Winchester ( County).— For larceny, 28th ult., at Worthy— CLARENCE RANKER, age; 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue ( have a peculiar appearance), bad teeth, large crack almost to bone on knuckle right liltle finger; fond of athletic sports, is a good, runner; dress, black jacket and vest, tweed breaches ( hole- in strapping- of- 1 right knee), box- cloth gaiters; may be wearing light trou- sers. A racing stableman; native of Ashley, near Newmarket. HUDSON, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft. 7 in., hair ( bald on top) light. He advertises jars of honey for, sale, obtains payment in advance, but does not supply the goods. Warrant issued. 1.9.— Southampton ( BorouQh).—~ For forgery— HARRY C. HAYNES, ago about 38, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., long features, rather large nose, good teeth, wears glasses, speaks in a soft persuasive manner ; wore heavy rough brown coat, brown boots. Has been employed as a canvasser. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable. Southampton. HERTFORDSHIRE. 20.— St. Albans ( City).— For larceny ( bailee), 15th September last— JANE FLINT, alias SHAW and JACKSON, age 68, height 5 ft. 1 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes ( cast in left) brown, rather round- shouldered ; dress, black cape, trimmed crepe, black frock and bonnet trimmed 2 jet orna- ments and black satin strings. Accompanied by ANNIE SHAW, alias JACKSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes ( full) brown ; dress, black dress, cape lined black and white plaid, black hat. satin lining. They were sentenced, at Leek, Staffordshire, on 5th March last, to 3 months imprisonment, for larceny. Travel as mother and daughter, and left St. Albans on 1st ult. ( See Case No. 21.) ISLE OF ELY. i 21.— Ely ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., at Littleport, £ 3 2s. 0d., also at Streatham Ferry, 2 white calico nightdresses, machine sewn, embroidery in neck and sleeves; 5 foreign and colonial coins ( in- cluding 2 Egyptian, 1 Indian, and 1 Australian), and £ 1 0s. 0d.— TWrO WOMEN. 1st, age about 64, rather short and stout, has a defect in left eye, and walks lame, wearing dark dress and cloak. 2nd, age about 26, rather tall, complexion pale, full dark eyes, wear- ing dark clothes, carries a bag. They represent themselves as mother and daughter, and take lodgings in quiet places, and, after committing a larceny, de- camp. Supposed to have gone in the direction of Lynn. Warrant issued. 25.— Dover ( Borough).— For deserting his wife,, and family, leaving them chargeable to the Dover, Union— WILLIAM PATRICK ALLEN, age 33, height about 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion dark, hair and moustache dark, " W. P. A." and star tattooed left forearm, wearing blue guernsey and peak cap. Native of Dover. MIDLOTHIAN. 34.— Edinburgh ( County.)— Portrait and des- cription of Expiree FREDERICK WEBB, alias JAMES MILLER, JAMES TULLOCH and CHARLES JAMES MORTON, Office No. 47008, wanted for steal- ing, 26th ult.— 2 £ 20 notes, and 2 £ 5 notes, on the ' National Bank of Scotland, age 32, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight side whis- kers ( brown), no beard or moustache, eyes blue, full face, stout build, " J " on right forearm, blue dot between left thumb and finger, and scar right of fore- j head ; dressed in new blue overcoat, dark tweed suit, black felt hat, and patent leather shoes, carried a J crooked- handle walking- stick.
