ICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to TUB EDITOB OP TUB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LO^ DO*, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sough t u- ill be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. f, Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. Cd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense if engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no wan ant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. y Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank th" n or analnnn* i. t thereto 8. A nnouncements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and cut alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings wiii h mat/ result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwaraed so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be IN advance, either at the office, Xeiv Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond If Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand. London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 2— E Division.— For embezzlement — PETER ROLLO BOULT, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., com- plexion and hair dark, eyes blue, near sighted, long nose, respectable appearance. Native of Liverpoo', where he is well known. Warrant issued. 3.— K Division.— For shooting at police with intent to murder— CHARLES CLARK, age 19 height 5 ft 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, scar on back of left hind, 2 scars between left thumb and finger; dres3 black coat and vest, blu9 trousers, light cap ( brown star on top), red neckerchief, lace boots. Warrant is ued. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity ID tho date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( b) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. W. 6.— For larceny and emb. zzlement— WILLIAM CHARLES GOUGH, alias JEFFERY GORDON, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue, upper front teeth decayed; is addicted to drink; dress, blue serge suit, white straw hat, with blue band, patent leather boots. BEDFORDSHIRE. 7.— Leightcn Buzzard ( Oounty) — For stealing £ 11 at Wingfield on 9tli inst.— THOMAS GINGER alias W ILLIAMS, ago about 30, height 5 ft. 5 cr 6 in , complexion fair, hair and moustache sandy : drets, dark jacket and vest, plaid trousers, white straw hat. Stated he was a ship's steward. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Anniwell, Leighton Buzzard. CARNARVONSHIRE. 8.— Bangor ( Oounty). — For obtaining monty by false pretences- WILLIAM HORATIO IN- WARDS ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height about 6 ft., well built, complexion fair, hair dark brown; dress, fiock coat, li^ ht twetd trousers silk hat. He rep esents himself to be a number of a firm which he stiles ' William Horatio Inwards & Co, 28, Connaugl t- road, Liverpool," visits hotels, and induces the proprietors to pay in advance for an advertisement in writing cases, with photograph of the hotel, which he promises to supply. States he was formetly an organist at Aberdeen. Previously convicted as W. H. DRAYTON in Dublin en 4th October, 1894, and at Oswestry as W. H. INWARDS. He was at Barmouth about 1st inst., and is supposed to be making his way to Montgomeryshire by the South Coast of Wales to the South of England. WarraLt issued. Information to Supt. Harris, Bangor. CHESHIRE. 9.— Chester ( County).— For setting fire to a hay- stack, 19th May last, at Farndon, aud for stealing a jacket and vest, and a feather bed, on 3rd inst. — JAMES PRIDDING, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair and moustache sandy, short side whiskers, eyes blue, mole or wart under left eye ; dress, blue jacket and vest with stripes, cloth breeches and leggings. A pig dealer; native of Holt, Denbighshire. May be accompanied by a woman, with whom he eloped, age 25, height about 5 ft., complexion pale, hair ( frizzed) very dark, eyes dark; dress, black drees, buttoned at back, dark tight- fitting jacket. They left Chester for Liverpool on 4tli inst., having with them a large brown wooden box, a small box covered with black canvas, a bundle of wearing apparel, and a feather bed tied in a sheet. Warrant issued. By trade a shoemaker; native of Bromley. Sentenced at Chelmsford Sessions, 23rd February, 1886, to 10 years penal servitude for stealii g a rabbit, & o. Liberated on 2ad licence 6th June, 1896. Sailed frcm London to the Tyne, on 22nd ult., in the ship " Adrian." 13— South Shields ( Borough).— For stealing a safety bicycle, weight about 38 lbs., diamond frame, pneumatic tyres, rubber tandles, tyre of hind wheel has been punctured and repaired— WILLIAM ORWIN, alias ROBSON, age about 23, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair; dress, blue suit, white straw hat with bone hanger, brown shoes. Was seon, on 14th inst., riding the bicycle in the vicinity of Haitou. Information to Chief Constable Morant, South Sbiel Is. ESSEX. 14— Mistley ( County).— For larceny— MARY WALLIS, a^ e 54, height about 5 ft. 2 in., stout build ; dress, brown dress, black shawl, whits apron, black bonnet trimmed black crape. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 15.— Cardiff ( Borough)— For stealing 1st inst., a gold watch and money— THOMAS SIMPSON RODERICK, age 16i, height 5 ft. 2 in., slight build, comp'exion datk, hair aud eyes brown; dress, pepper and salt colour jacket suit, light tweed cap, brown shoes, all new; a boy ( 1st Class), belong- ing to H. M. S. ' Lion," from which ship he is a deserter. Warrant issued. 16.— Cardiff ( Borough)— For abduction and having carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16, 2nd ult — TREGENNIS JONES, alias TIM or TOM JONES, age 18, height about 5 ft. 1 in., slight build, complexion fair, long thin face, hair and small moustache light, heavy eyebrows light, eyes ( small) grey, tattooed on right arm, cut scar under one eye; dress, blue jacket and vest, dark trousers, blue cloth peak cap. DEVONSHIRE. 11 — Exeter ( City)— For forgery— GIUSEPPE ROBERTO, alias JOSEPH ROBERTO, an Italian ice cream vendor, age about 47, height 5 ft. 7 in. complexion sallow, thin face, high cheek bones, hair ( turning grey) black, moustache dark brown, sunken eyes, dark veins in face, prominent thorax, speaks broken English; dress, when last seen, dark coat and vest, light trousers, hard hat. Was last seen at Liverpool on 6t, h inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Court House Exeter. HADDINGTONSHIRE. 17— Haddington ( County). — Portrait and de- scription if ALEXANDER DUFF, a commercial DURHAM. 12— South Shields ( Borough).— For stealing on 14th inst., 1 gold Waltham keyless hunting watch, American make, had attached 1 gold albert, fine long link pattern, with ring at end to fasten to buttonhole; andab, ut£ 5 12s.- C. PETTERSEN, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, tweed jacket suit or blue serge suit. Is fond of cycling. A native of Edinburgh. Was last in the employ, of a firm of breweis, at Prestonpans. May endeavour to leave the country. Enquiry is re- quested at hotels, shipping offices, & o. Warrant issued. Borthwick, Chief Con- stable, Haddington. traveller, whose apprehension is sought for embez z'ement to a large amou-. t, age a1 out 32, height about 5 ft. 9 in., well built, complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, eyes brown or hsz. l, of quiet gentlemanly manner; may be wearing light grey HAMPSHIRE. 18— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For obtaining charitable contributions by fraud — HENRY JAMES, age 18, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, comphxion pale, hair ( long) black, slight dark moustache, rather long neck, slightly turned- up nose; of plausible manner; dress, dark coat and vest, light stripe trousers, sailor knot tie, hard felt hat, He calls on clergymen of the Church of England states he is penniless and has written to another clergyman from whom he expects a letter also that he and his mother have taken part in church work urder clergymen whom he names. Warrant issued. 19— Southampton ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 5 15s. by means of a worthless cheque— ADA WILLIAMS, age 27, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair brown ( inclined to curl); dress, blue serge dress, brown cape with high collar, black beaver bat trimmed with feathers or sailor hat. Is accompanied by 3 children ( an infant in arms and twins, age about 2), and her sister- in- law. Has a dog in her possession called Pincher," wearing a collar engraved " Williams, Osborne- rcad." Ab- sconded 1st inst., and is supposed to have booked to Basingstoke. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Berry, South- ampton. 20.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For conspiracy — WILLIAM WHITE, alias BRISTOL BILL, and BRISTOL JACK, age 29, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair very light brown, slight light moustache; supposed wearing dark ccat and light skull cap. May be found with low horse dealers. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 21— Ledbury ( County).— For stealing on 8th inst., at Bosbury— 1 dark- ribbed jacket and vest, bound with black braid— ARTHUR TOMBS, alias LONDON, age 26, height 5 ft. 7| in., complexion and hair dark, eyes dark, left very weak and partly closed, stammers, walks with shuffling gait; dress, dark double - breasted coat, dark waistcoat, grey striped trousers, black hard hat, lace boots. Has been an inmate of Dr. Barnado's Home, and was attached to the shoeblack brigade in London for several years; has been employed at hotels as out- door porter, and on pleasure boats between Cardiff and Bristol, as light porter; wears the badge of the Young Men's Christian Association on left breast; was connected with the Salvation Army, and other charitable and religious institutions at Cardiff, London, and Bristol; frequents watering places daring the summer months. ( See Case No. 52, 5th ult.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A drawer; native of Burton- wood, tear St. Helens. They left at their lodgings a pawnticket for a box of tools pledged on 6th March last with F. Clark & Sots " 9, Listergate, Nottingham. Warrant issued. ' 29. — Bolton ( Borough). — License Holder ROBERT HOLT, Office No. 4560?, Case No. 15, < nh Septs mber, 1S95, not now wanted. 30.— Bootle ( Borough) — For obtaining mm y by false pretercep, 3rd inst.— A MAN, age about 8a, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion frcsb, hair and moustache sandy; dress, black jacket and vest, light trousers, turn- down caller, Jight tie, black hard felt hat, carried a small handbag containing samples of drapery. He calls at bouacs in respectable localities and obtains orders from ser- vants under the protence that he represents a firm who have bought a large quantity of salvage goods, which he offers at a very low price, obtiins money in payment and does not forward the goacs. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 3 5.— Tredegar ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a gold lever watch ( worn), " Jobn Maddocks" engraved in case— JAMES SINCLAIR, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes ( full) brown, thick lips, lame, and generally carries a walking stick; dress, dark coat and vest, supposed light stripe trousers, black bowler hat, light lase boot3 ( one baa thick heel).
