All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THB EDITOB OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought tcill be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. i. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will le prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of lis. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no wart ant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and arj alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, PTetc Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. SPECIAL NOTICE. An inventor has patented a composition for taking casts of footprints in any soft ground, and Government has acquired the right to use this invention in any part of the United Kingdom. It is anticipated that it will prove of value occasionally in criminal cases, especially in rural districts, and any Police Force that wishes to have particulars of it, is invited to apply to the Home Office confidentially for that purpose. CITY OF LONDON. 3.— For forging ard utterincr a cheque for £ 370 — ALBERT WALTER COUNTER, late of 18, Eddiscombe- road, Fulham, age about 23, height 5 ft. 8 in , slight build, esomplexion fair, hair and moustache light, recent scar over one eye; dress dark frock coat, black and white check trousers, red scarf, high silk hat, linen marked " Webster, Bros., Lombard St." Had with him a new leather suit case and crocodileT& in kit bag, " J. W. Allan, 37, Strand," stamped thereon. May assume the names of CLAIR and POLLACK. A stockbroker's clerk. Absconded 20th ult. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 4. — Cambridge ( Borough). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— FREDERICK CASEMORE, alias FRED RALSTON, age 26 to 28, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, hair dark blown ( appearance of being curled in front with curling tongs), moustache brown, eyes ( very full) dark brown ; dress, black jacket and vest, brown speckled trousers, laco boots. NELLIE CASEMORE, alias LULU TEMPEST, age 21 to 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion pile, thin face, hair brown, frizzed in front; dress, long fawn- colourei double- breasted jacket with brown turned- down collar, brown bone buttons, b'ack drass with black silk sleeves and front, large green felt hat with 2 black feathers and black ribbon to tie under chin, patent- leather strap shoes. PRISCILLA DIXON, alias CONNIE CLARE MONT, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, cut short and frizzed all over ; dress, f- length dark brown jacket, navy- blue serge dre3S, black net hat, trimmed black ribbon, small yellow flowers and yellow- coloured straw, pitent - leather s* rap bcots. Stated they belonged to a theatrical company, and were having a week's holiday, and that their luggage was at tt e railway station. The younger woman lived as tho man's wife. The elder stated she was his sister. Supposed to be theatre or music- hall artistes. Warrants issued. 5.— Cambridge ( Borough). — For stealing, 1st inst., a bicycle, '" Road Raaer," nearly new, rat- trap pedals, laced spokes, no brake or guards, " Dunlop" tyres fitted with 1896 pattern valves, No. 23635 stamped on handle- bar grip, enamelled plain black, with two transfers and name " John How & Sons, Cambridge," thereon EVANS, age 24 to 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion and moustache dark, hair brown; dress, military bicycle suit with narrow gold braid, shoulder straps, and 1 stripe on right arm, glengarry cap. D. back of right band. Sentenced at Salop Assizes, Shrewsbury, 7th December, 1891, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny. Licensed 6th March, 1896. R 368. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Cheshire, Broxton, Cheshire. 7.— Birkenhead ( Borough). — For failing to report — Supervisee JOHN FINNIGAN, alias THOMAS MURPHY, Office No. 1173- 6, age 28, height 5 ft. 7y in., complexion fresh, hail' brown, eyes light brown, scar above right eye, left temple, under left nipple, 2nd joint 3rd left finger, and small scar front of left hip, birthmark inside left foreaim, small brown mole right side of face. Sentenced at Wilts Quarter Sessions, Salisbury, 9th April, 1895, to 12 months hard labour for stealing a coat. Supervision on former sentence expires 6th December, 1898. 106. Information to the Chief Constable, Birkenhead. DERBYSHIRE. 8.— Ashbourne ( County).— For stealing, 28th nit., 1 gentleman's silver watch, steel hands, seconds hand, glass loose ; 1 long silver curb- pattern guard; 2 hollow- ground razors, black handles ( in case); 1 brass seal, hands crossed, " Let us pull together" thereon; 1 penknife, 3 blades, tortoise- shell handle ; 1 blue plaid cotton Bhirt, sleeve3 lengthened with different material; 1 George lit. shilling— JOHN HALL, age 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., com- plexion fair, hair light brown, eyes supposed grey, scar on temple ( supposed left) ; dress, black worsted jacket aid vest, grey trousers with blue stripe, black peak cap, light lace boots. DORSETSHIRE. 9. — Poole County). — For embezzlement — WILLIAM GEORGE BARTLETT, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair very dark, moustache and eyes dark, cut marks on thumb; dress ( usually), blue ribbed serge coat and vest, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. A butcher's assistant; native of Henstridge, Somerset. Ab- sconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Hains, Poole. HAMPSHIRE. 10.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing, lst inst., a " Quadrant" tricycle, cushion tyres, ivcry handles, right traced bar slightly bent and scratched, usual parts plated, painted chocolate colour, no lamp; in good condition— A MAN, age about 22, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, clean shaved, rather prominent nose; of good address and gentlemanly appearance; dress, dark suit, black hard felt hat. 11. — Portsmouth ( Borough). — For house- breaking, between 21st and 28th nit., and stealing 1 gentleman's small old geneva watch, white dial, no second hands ; 1 small round silver brooch, bird tt ereon, pin missing ; 1 gold appendage in shape of boat ( damaged) ; 1 plain gold telescopic pencil- case; 1 silver do.; 1 silver bracelet, set green pebbles, oval pattern, 1 polished steel bracelet, brass back, old fashioned; 1 small gold brooch, diamond shape, set 3 or 4 red stones in a row, pin missing; I thick twisted silver chain brooch, with 6 small imitations of Roman coins attached; 1 pair plain gold ear- rings, hoop pattern ; 1 pair gold earrings, set white paste stones; 1 lady's open- face gold geneva watch, gold dial, supposed word " Geneva" on inside; I gold bar brooch, several pearls in centre; 1 small round silver brooch ; 1 small gilt horse- shoe brooch, set several paste stores, 1 missing; 1 small oblong silver brooch, set 2 red and 2 white stones, 1 missing — A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, comp'exion fair, supposel slight mous- tache; dresi, dark grey jacket, blue guernsey, cord trousers, skull cap. Was accompanied by another man, shorter than himself, and who has a deep scar on left side of face. They carry bags, and go from house to house, ostensibly for the purpose of collect- ing rags and bones. 12. — Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing £ 7, 2nd inst.— HENRICH ROSENKRANZER, age 27 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion dark, broad features, moustache brown; dres3, fawn colour overcoat, dark velvet collar, black morning coat, grey trousers, black hard felt hat, brown shoes, carried a sma'l dark walking stick. A German, speaks good English. A gardener, and may seek employment as such. Warrant issued. 13.— Ports mOUth ( Borough).— For forging and uttering cheques on Cox & Co.' s Bank— GEORGE NORTON, age 20f, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar top of forehead, 1 on throat, mole 3 in. below right nipple and on both forearms, takes long stride?, and looks on the ground when walking; dress, blue serge jacket suit and cap. Is a deseiter from the 31st Co. Southern Division Royal Artillery. A gardener; native of Kildare. Has in bis possession a cheque- book on Messrs. Cox & Co., containing cheques numbered from J/ 16 013136 to 50. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. 14 — Southampton ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment— WILLIAM ADAMS, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 cr 5 io., small features, hair ( slightly bald) very light, speaks indistinctly; dress, dark suit, black hard felt hat. A journeyman baker. Absconded 28th ult. Had with him a small yellow wooden box. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constabls Berry, S. uthamp- ton. HERTFORDSHIRE. 15.— Watford ( County).— For burglary — THOMAS MURRHAL, an Irishman, age 55 to 60, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, right eye badly disooloured, left little finger deficient; dress, speckled coat, 2 waistcoats ( one lined leather to form inside pockets), cord trousers, dark cap, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Wymer, Djputy Chief Constable, Watford. KENT. 16. — Ashford ( County). — Portrait and de- scription of WALTER ANSELL, whose apprehen- sion is songht for embezzlement— Age alout 27, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown ( inclined to curl), eyes brown ; dress, usually, dark jacket and vest, dark brown tweed trousers, light tie, with p'n containing stone, black hard felt lnt, dark brown double- breasted overcoat, with brown velvet collar. A clerk; native of Ashror j. Warrant issued. 17. — Ashford ( County). — On commitment warrant, for leaving his family chargeable to the Guardians of the New Romney Union — JAMBS HENDRY, age 36, height 6 ft. 1 in, complexion* fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown, eyes blue, stoops when walking ; dress, black suit, some- times wears light grey suit, light cap, light lace boots. Information to Snpt. Wenham, Ashford. 18 — Chatham ( County) — For embezzlement— GEORGE PASrfBY, late rrlieving officer of the Medway Union, age 36, height 5 ft. 10 in., s'ight build, complexion dark, sbarp feature?, hair and long moustache dark ; dress, navy blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, black lie; of gentlemanly appearance. Warrant issued. 19. — Chatham ( County). — For stealing a leather ease containing 3 clarionets, A, B, and C, marked A, No. 6997, R. M. Band, maker Baosey; B marked R. M. Band, maker, Chappell; C marked No. 24768, R. M. Band, maker Boosey— JOSEPH THEODORE O'BRIEN, a musician, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hiir dirk brown, eyes blue ; a deserter, Regimental No. 8204. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham. LANCASHIRE. 20.— Hurst ( County).— Escaped, 4th inst., from police cells at Audenshaw, when in custody, for larceny— TOM MOUNTFORD, age 18, height 5 ft. 65 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, burn mark left tide of jaw; dress, brown check jacket and trousers, black cap, black- and- white striped shirt, heavy clogs with hoop- iron edges. A collier. May endeavonr to enlist. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst, near Ashton- under- Lyne. 21.— B O Ot I e ( Borough).— For obtaining, 21st ult., eight horses value £ 203, by means of worthless cheque— THOMAS WHEELER, age 45, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, moustache ( slight) brovtn, walks erect; dress, brown check suit ( tight fitting trousers), cap to match. Appearance of a horse- dealer; was recently in business as a provender dealer at Wolverhampton. Is known to horsedealers at Birmingham, West Bromwich, Tattenhall, and elsewhere. Warrant issued. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 22. — Newport ( Borough). — Portrait and description of WILFRED NICKLESS, whose. apprehension is sought for embezzling £ 35, on 16th ult.— Age 33, height 5 ft. 10£ in., stout bnild, weight about 13 stone, complexion fair, hair and monstacho light, is addicted to drirk; dres?, blue FRIDAY, MAY 8, 18S6 THE POLICE GAZETTE. 3 eergo coat and vest, grey trousers, black bard felt bat, wears a silver watch chain. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 23.— Daventry ( County) — For stealing, 23rd ult,, a chimney- sweep's machine, hand - brush, scraper, and 2 c'oths — FREDEaiCK MOUN- TAIN, alias JAMES BAMFORD, age about 60, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion dark, hair turn- ing grey, cast in one eye, rather deaf; dre3S, car- digan jacket, cord trousers, black cap. A chimney- sweep ; native of Aston, near Birmingham. Has been previously convicted of a similar offence at Warwick. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hustler, Daventry. ORKNEY. 24. — Kirkwall ( County). — For embezzlement and breach of trust— JAMES GALT, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion pale, thin face, hair and small moustache brown, eyes blue; dress, grey tweed jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, grey peak cap. A clerk or commercial traveller; na'. iVe of Aberdeenshire. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended ont of the United Kingdom Information to Supt. Grant, Kirkwall. RADNORSHIRE. 25.— Penybont ( County).— Portrait and descrip- tion of FRANK PARSONS, whose apprehension is sought for housebreaking at Tynfald, Rhayader; . age 28, height 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache brown, eyes grey, slight droop in left eyelid, lovo tattooed on right forearm, crown on left forearm, ring on back of both hands; dress, grey • coat, cord trousers, light cap, heavy boots, all much worn. A tramping labourer ; native of Child Oke- ford, Dorsetshire. ( See Case No. 53.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Radnor- shire, Penybont. SHROPSHIRE. 26.— Ludlow ( County).— For stealing, 24th ult., .• a small black tin cash- box, containing a jubilee ,£ 5- piece and 6 old crown- pieces, a memo book, and sundry papers— TWO MEN: 1st, age 37 to 40, short, very heavy brown moustache, bridge of nose very large ; dress, dark clothes, (' ark hard felt bat; a native of London. 2cd, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 6 in., hair and small moustache dark; • dress, light grey clothes. Information to Supt. Hayward, Ludlow. £ 3 REWARD. 27.— Shrewsbury ( County).— For stealing, - 21st inst., a dark cob horse, 4 yeais old, 15 hands 2 in. high, recently blistered near foreleg, stump of tail slightly crooked, value £ 40; and a light spring trap, painted dark green, lined red ( except wheels), containing green cushion, waterprcof rug, black- and- red lining" whip, and one 2- leafed mahogany table, frenfc end of rail r. ear side of trap broken, and off side rail back end of trap broken and mended with iron plate ; 1 set of silver- mounted harness ( worn), new reins with brass buckles— License Holder HENRY PRICE, alias WILLIAM JONES, CORNELIUS HOTSPUR, RICHARD ELTON, and HILTON, Office No. 49034, age 62, height 5 ft. 3£ in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers, and moustache ( cut close), grey, eyes hazel, upper part of right arm fractured and wasted, birthmark left knee, small mole left side of neck and bend of right arm, and 2 scars on right elbow; dressed in dark coat, breeches, and leggings, black hard hat, collar, and black tie. Was trace! to Wolverhampton, 22nd icst., in possession of stolen property, where he had the horse shod. Sentenced at Stafford Sessions, 3lst December, 1883, to 14 years penal servitude for larceny, and at Salop Assizes to 3 months, aud license revoked, on the 29th November, 1894. Liberated on second license, 30th November, 1895. C J 123. The above reward will be paid by Mr. Withers, builder, Leaton, for snch information as will lead to the apprehension of the thief, and recovery of the property. Information to Supt. Edge, Shrewsbury. SURREY. 28.— Famham ( County).— For non- appearance to a summons on a charge of larceny— SPENCER FLEMING, late of Farnhatr, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, mous- tache light; dress, supposed grey suit.
