All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOB OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought tvill be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the pay vent must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15j. per portrait, and of 7s. Cd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on woo l. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or nrtalonovs thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons tobe apprehended or of stolen properly bear a number, and ai j alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond § Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125,. Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identifica- tion by the Metropolitan Police the Photo- graphs and descriptive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from Bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door; stealing bale of silk; van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. E. DANIELS, and LEFEBRVE, aga 38, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, sharp features, hair ( bald on top), whiskers and moustache dirk brown, eyes grey, prominent pointed nose, speaks English imperfectly ; probably wearing snuff coloured overcoat, grey check tweed cap. Native of Audruick, Bourtourg, France. Warrant issued. 2.—' T Division.— For embezzlement— HARRY \ ARCOE, late superintendent of Ealing Cemetery, age 39, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout huild, complexion fair, hair and moustache very light; dress, bine overcoat, bli. ck frock coat and vest, grey trousers, light tie, high silk hat, low shoes. He is in a desponding state, and may commit suicide. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 3 — For fraud — WILLIAM WHETSTONE, alias BOCK, or WILLIAMS, a grocer, late of No. 98, Westminster- bridge- road, S. E., age 36, height 5 ft. G or 7 in , complexion ruddy, hair dark, moustache brown, scar across rose; appearance of a farmer. Wears an Irish frieze overcoat. Warrant issued. 4— For forgery— FRANK BUBNETT, late of No. 3, Oat- lane, Wood- street, City, age 32, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair and moustache light, well dressed ; wears low brown, felt or high silk hat. A silk braid and lace agent. Absconde r 21st nit. Supposed to be in the company of a prostitute. BERKSHIRE. 6. — Windsor ( Borough). — For house- breaking and stealing, 2nd inst., I gold diamond- shape locket, photo of a male and female inside; 1 ditto, oval shape; 1 cameo brooch; 1 gold ditto, hair inside; 1 small gold ditto, shape of star with bell in centre; 1 pearl ditto; 1 gilt ditto, set red stone; 1 Piimrose League ditto; 1 gold ring, set diamond; 1 ditto, set turquoise; 1 ditto, set green stone ; 1 gold seal, " You XL " ; 1 gold watch- key; 1 pair gold earrings; 1 lady's long gold chain ( small pattern) ; a number of old silver and copper, and silver jubilee coins— A MAN, ago about 30,. height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion and mous- tache dark; dress, loDg dark overcoat, billycock hat. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 7.— Fenny Stratford ( Clour, tj).— For em- bezzlement— WALTER COMPTON, age 28, height 5 ft,. 8 in , complexion fresh, hair and slight mous- tache brown; dress, dark coat and vest, brown trousers, black hard felt hat. A butcher; native of Newport Pdgnell. WarraLt issued. Information to Supt. Liit, Fenny Stratford. 8.— High Wycombe ( Borough)— For assault — HARRY BELMORE, age 41, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion sallow, thin features, hair ( cut short) dark brown ( turning grey), e'ean shaved, eyes grey, red scar or birthmark on neck near right ear, walks quickly and swings right arm; dress, old black pilot coat, side pockets, and vest, old gtey tweed trousers, lace boots, black hard felt hat. A scalemaker and adjuster. Photograph will be forwarded on application. Warrant issued. 9 — High Wycombe ( Borough). — For s'ealing, 30th ult., a dark bay mare cob, aged, about 14 hands 2 in., white star on foiehead, both hind legs white, shod with leather pads both fore feet, clipped body, in good condition; light deg ca't, black body and yellow wheels, " Wilkinp, Uxbridge" on wheal caps, plain black leather brass- mounted harness, in good condition, ordinary lound turrets to saddle, plated curb bit, plain brass ornaments to biow- band of bridle; 3 jugs ( 1 black mackintosh, lined red and white plaid, 1 w< ollen horse- rug, 1 yellow sleeping rug) ; web mat with red border; now nose- bag; and stick- whip. A MAN, age abou1; 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, complexion, hair, and side- whiskers dark, otherwise clean shaved; dress, dark clothes and cap, tight- fitiing trousers with 3 rows of stitch- ing round bottoms, lace boots. Appearance of a coachman. Supposed identical with m in described in Cases No. 28, 10th, and No. 78, 24th ult. Wat rant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United King- dom. CHESHIRE. 10.— Egremont ( County).— For stealing, 22nd ult., at Upton- by- Birkenhead, 1 rather large leather portmanteau, " J. B. G., Rock Ferry," stamped one side; 1 old silver geneva watch, gold dial, black hands, No. 696911, chased back; 1 pair brown leathfr leggiDgs; 1 pair borso clippers, " The Liver- pool, No. 3 " stamped then on ; 1 horse- singing lamp ; 2 slide- mouth horee bits- CHARLES DICKENS, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 4 in , complexion fresh, hair brown, clcan shaved, rather large nose, high cheekbones, bow- legged; dress, pepper- and salt tweed jacket atd vest, brown tweed breeches, corduroy cap, brown leather leggiDgs ( stolen). Has been employed as a groom and coachman for the last 3 years; previously employed in a restaurant at Birkenhead. Native of Birmingham. Has been traced to Birmingham and thence to Gloucester ( 24th ult.). Information to Chief Supt. Hindley, Egremont. 11. — Macclesfield ( County). — For burglary ( breaking out) and stealing, 31st ult., at Tythering- ton, 1 gentleman's gold hunting- watch, white dial ; 1 gold brooch, knot pattern; 1 small gold brcoch, set coral, and ring to match; 1 black fur boa; 2 bonnets, triarned black braid; 1 pair eye- glasses, with imitation gold chain attached; 1 Paisley shawl; 1 black knittel shawl, and 17s. 6d.— FLORENCE SMITH FIELD ( supposed false), age about 34, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion pale, hair dark, eye3 light grey, has lost two or three upper front teeth; dress, black skirt, short imitation sealskin jacket, sealskin cap, button boots. May be accom- panied by a man, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in , complexion, hair and mous'ache dark ; dress, black suit and black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Downes, Macclesfield. 12.— Middlewich ( County).— For larceny— TIM AMES, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion fresb, hair and moustache ( turning grey) brown,. eyes grey, left wrist has been broken, which causes the hand to turn outwards; dress, black jacket and vest, dark stripe trousers, patched on right knee with lightei' cloth. A tailor.' Warrant issued. eye- glasses; dress, dark coat and vest, dark grey trousers, usually wears a short dark grey overcoat and square- top black felt hat. A bank manager; native of Leybnrn, Yorkshire. May have in his possession two £ 100 notes. Absconded 7th inst, and may endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 16.— Sunderland ( Borough).— Escaped from police cells at Sunderland, on 28th ult, charged with having in his possession implements for the manufacture of counterfeit coin — WILLIAM ALMOND, age 28, height about 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fresh, round face, hair and moustache light brown, eyes blue, 5 blue dots back of left hand, scar right forearm, turns toes outwards, and walks with shnffliog gait. A labourer; native of Sunderland. Supposed to have worked in a shipyard at Kirkcaldy, under the name of PETER MARTIN. Warrant issned. Information to Chief Constable Huntley, Sunder- land. ESSEX. 17.— c h e I m sf O rd ( County).— For neglecting to maintain his wife, leaving her chargeable to the Chelmsford Union — CHARLES FREDERICK WOOLLEY, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 in., comp'exion sallow, hair, whiskers, and moustnche dark. Was employed last August as clerk of works at Knowles Asylum, Fareham, Hants. Photograph may be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. 18.— Grays ( County).— For stealing, 8th inst., £ 11 from the ship " May Queen "— ED WARD WILCOX, ago 16, height about 5 ft., hair brown, eyes hazel, scar over right breast, back of left wrist and shin ( upposed), ship and 2 anchors tattooed on breast; dress, dark blue monkey jacket, dark blue se'ge sailor trousers, " P. and O." cap, cloth peak, trimmed braid. May endeavour to get a situation on board ship. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. haze', star tattooed back of right hand, claspel- hands back of left hand; dress, blue serge suit, neckerchief, black or brown hard bowler hat. A native of St. Goorgo, near Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Fishponds. DURHAM. 13.— South Shields ( Borough).— For failing to report— Licence Holder ROSE ANN RYAN, alias MARY McIVOR, Office No. 336, age 61, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fair, hair grey, eyes blue, scar under right eye, 4 on right forearm, 1 on 4t'n left finger and on left calf, wound on neck aud under both arm?, mole right side of nose. A widow ; well known to Newcastle- on Tyce and North Shields police. Has a brother residing ( supposed) at Seg- hill, Northumberland, where she may be found. On her way to South Shields she reported herself at Newcastle, but has rot been seen since. Sentenced, a, t Northumberland Sessions, 22nd October, 1891, to 3 years petal servitude for larceny. Liberated on second license, 22nd January, 1896, which will expire on the 1st May, 1896. R 30. 14.— South Shields ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) I gentleman's 15- ct. gold patent lever watch, No. 127485, gold dial with silver wreath, flowers in centre, steel pointers, frosted dome, English winding and E'glish turned cases; 1 silver chronograph Swiss lever watch. No. 99865, white dial, black chapters, gnld po: nters, seconds pointer steel, plain cases— JOBN WILLIAM ROCHESTER, known as " FRED," age about 21, height 5 ft. 5^ in., stout build, complexion fresh, full round face, hair black, very slight dark moustache, eyes dark, good teeth, cut scar one kneecap, very large feet, turns his toes inwards when walking ; dress, when last seen, large fawn- coloured overcoat, brown tweed jacket suit, hard felt hat, collar and tie, lace boots, or may bo wearing a navy- blue corded serge jacket suit. Has been employed by an auctioneer to travel the country with a van, selling watches, jewellery, & c. Is addicted to drink ; may bo found in company of loese women. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Morant, South ShitlJe. 15— Sunderland ( Borough).— For falsifying accounts — HENRY STOREY, late of North Bridge- etreet, Sunderland, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair daik ( Inroing grey), fcesvy moustache and very slight side wU- kers c'ark, promirent teeth, wears Eteel- rimmcd FLINTSHIRE. 19— Mold ( County).— For obtaining money, food, and lodgings by false pretences— JOHN RICHARD JONES, age 2- 5 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 in, complexion fresb, hair dark, burn mark on back of left hand and arm ; dress, black ribbed jacket and vest, dark plaid trousers, with two patches of darker colour on seat, dark cloth peak cap, lace boots, with toecaps, square toe3, military leggings, red- and- black plaid muffler. He represents himself to be engaged putting np telegraph wires, and employs men to assist him. Supposed identical with Richard Thomas Wynne, sentenced to 2 months imprisonment, 15th November last, at Barmouth, for larceny, and to 1 day's imprisonment, 28th ult., at Mold Assizes, for obtaining food and lodging by false pretences. Warrant issued Information to Supt. Davies, Mold. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 20.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For attempting to obstruct the due course of justice by preventing a witness from giving evidence in a case of wounding — WALTER COOPER, age about 36, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, mons- tacha red, walks smartly, but has a stiff kneo- joint. A seaman; lately employed as a boarding house runner. Native of Bristol. Warrant issued. 21.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For embezzlement— ISAAC JONES, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair light brown; appearance of an actor. A milk vendor; native of Port Talbot. Formerly lessee of the " Red Cow " Inn, High- street, Swansea. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.— Fishponds ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences — JAMES WILLIAM WELCH, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( supposed) HAMPSHIRE. 23 — Andover ( Oounty).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Andover Union— TOM RUM BOLD, age 28, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion dark, bair black, eyes hazel, cut- mark on forehead, undor right eye, upper lip, and left cheek. A labourer; native^ of Andover. May bo found in common lodging houses or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Andover. 24— Lyndhurst ( County).— For obtaining 10th ult., by false pretenefs, at Ne- tley Marsh, a horse and cart— WILLIAM FENNER, late of Millbrook, age 25, height 6 ft. 1 in, complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, 5 blue dots, and 2 moles right arm, 3 cut marks on 1st finger and 1 on 2nd finger right hand, mole back of neck, several moles left arm, suffers from rheumatism; dress, when last seen, dark brown suit, blue overcoat with velvet collar, black hard felt hat, may be wearing a heavy ulster. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Payne, Lyndhurst. 2- 5— Winchester ( City).— For obtaining food and lodgings, and £ 1 13s. 7d., by false pretences— OVEN IE PORTSNIE, age 50 to 60, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion dark, hair and mous- tache very dark, turning grey, eye3 brown, falso teeth iu upper jaw, much worn through holding pipe, has received recent injury to knuckles of right hand, is addicted to drink ; drc^ s, blue serge jacket suit, white linen front and turn- down collar, small red- and- white scarf, gold- plated stuls ( chased), brown knitted gloves, light stripes. States he is a native of Paris; speaks broken English. Stated he was a dealer in oranges, onions, & c., a: id that he had stores at Southampton, Reading, Exeter, and Cardiff. He takes lodgings at low beer- houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Felton, Winchester. 26.— Portsmouth ( Borough) — For bigamy— WALTER HARRY DE BOOS, alias WALTER HOWARD, age 30 ( look3 older), height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion sallow, thin features, prominent nose, hair ( inclined to curl in front) dark brown, eyen blue, side teeth in upper jaw project, slight scar bridge of nose; dress, long brown rough overcoat, check lining, navy- bluo serge suit, soft felt hat, or brown tweed knickerbockers, brown leather leggings. May be wearing blue glasses with side pieces. Has bsen a corn- merchant's traveller, and will probably seek similar employment. May be accompanied by a woman, age about 19 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 iu , complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes dark; wear. ng golf cape with plaid hood, or three- quarter jacket with velvet sleeves. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. 27.— Southampton ( Borough).— For stealitig, 3id inst., a dun gelding, 15 hands 2 or 3 in., age 7 or 8 years, black stripe running from withers to tail, inclined dark points, light colour mane snd tail ( docked), value £ 28— WILLIAM WHITE, supposed false, age about 65, height 5 ft. 10 in, hair grey, clean 6havccl, suffers with gout; dress, blue coat and vest, groy trousers and mackintosh. Is accompanied by a man, described as lii- j son, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., sandy moustache, bloodshot eyes; elress, blue jackct end vest, heavy overcoat. His modus operandi ia to obtain a horse on trial for a week, paying a small deposit, which is to be forfeited if the horse proves unsuitable; and takes an early opportunity to abscond with the animal. The gelding described above was seen on 5th inst., being led with others in the direction of Win- chester. Warrant issued. A labourer; native of Sawtry. Is accustomed to sleeping in outhouses. Information to Supt. Allen, Norman Cross. KENT. • 29. — Tunbridge Wells ( Borough). — For obtainirg by false pretences— 1 cowhide Gladstone bag, with plated fittings, and 1 black silk blouse— EMILY GUEST, sgd 23, height 5 ft, 5 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair dark brown, fringe on forehead, ejes brown; dress, black ^- jacket, dress and hat. She takes lodgings in a respectable locality, and obtains possession of goods by stating that they are for some well- known resident, and then leaves her lodgings without paying. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Trior, Tunbridge Wells. LANCASHIRE. 30— Burnley ( County).— For larceny ( bailee) — Expiree ALFRED ALBERT TAYLOR, Office No. 41831, age 21, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes grey, scar back of left thumb and on 2nd left finger. Sentenced, at Nottingham Sessions, 2nd DeBember, 1890, to 9 months hard labour and 1 year police supervision for stealing a watch and chain. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barnett, Burnley. 31.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to report since the 4th ult, - License Holder THOMAS MOONEY, Reg. No C 704, age 33, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes grey, medium build, long face, face pockpitted, cro3s and P. tattooed on left forearm. A labourer. Sentenced at Dublin, 3rd October, 189.3, to 3 years penal servitude for assault to rob. Licensed 1st January, 1896, from Maryborough Convict Prison. Information to the Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. LEICESTERSHIRE. 32.— SouthWigston ( County).— Forlarccny— CHARLES MILLER, ago 37, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes brown, lost 1st joint of right forefinger, scar side of nose and forehead; dress, old brown coat and cap ( much worn), dirty dark cord trousers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ormiston, South Wigston. MIDLOTHIAN. 34. — Edinburgh ( City). — For obtaining, between lOih November last and 23rd ult., various sums amounting to £ 100, by fraud— CHARLES NEY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, hair very light, may have a beard or moustache, slightly bow- legged, left shoulder lower than right; dress, light check jacket suit, round black felt hat, may bo wearing a heavy dark grey top coat, very broad collar and broad lapels, or a heavy light- coloured ulster coat with cape. Supposed accom- panied by his wife, who is said to be a Swede, about same age, tall, very stout, complexion dark; have with them a very large dark American trunk and a long yellow portmanteau. He took premises and started the manufacture of '' Holdall" net hand- bag and net- work photo- graph frames, advertised for employees, but before engaging them, obtained from them sums of money, varying from £ 5 to £ 25, as security that they would not divulge the secret of his trade, after which he disposed of hia stock and absconded.
