All announcements fur insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to TUB KDITOII OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDOW, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the I'or. LCE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the pai/ nent must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. C. Portrait* of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of lbs. per portrait, and of Is. Gd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on woo l. f>. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to le inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Tnsvertnr nr n^ ntonnus thereto. REG- XJLA. TIONS. 8. Announciments of all persons tobe apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and at alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted i » the POLICH GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transm> t to the hditor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion i » the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, wdl be wholly responsible for any proceedings whiih may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be fortcaraed so as to be receded not later than noonon Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not laterthan Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed Drummond <$• Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identifica- tion by the Metropolitan Police the Photo- graphs and descriptive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from Bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk ; van unattended, & c , & c. Native of Wells, Norfolk. Was formerly in business at Harleston, and is known at Fakenham and Norwich. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United Kingdom. 4— D Division-— For conspiring and fraudu- lently obtaining, 3rd September last, a walnut case upright iron grand piano, seven octaves, complete metal frame, patent perfect repeater check action, No. 37112, " John Brinsmead & Sons" oa lower panel, value £ 87— JAMES FORD, age about 63, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion florid, hair, moustache and tuft on chin grey; dress, grey jacket suit and cap— CHARLES LAYTON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 in , complexion fresh, hair light, moustache carrotty, has a peculiar look about the eyes; wore dark clothe?, f. It hit Ford represented himself as an independent m » n and orderel the piano on approval, having it delivered to a house of which Lay ton represented he was the landlord, and signed an agreement as security. Shortly sfter delivery the piano was removed and the house deserted. May bo found at first- class hotels. Warrant issued. 8 — For fraud ( worthless cheque)- ERME3T G. WURTEMBURG, age 55, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair and moustache ( turning grey) light, bushy eyebrows, irregular teeth; dress, dark clothes, silk hat; respectable appearance. A Gtrmar, late of 98, St. Paul's- road, Canonbury, N. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. MoWilliam, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. AYRSHIRE. 9.— Ayr ( County). — For fraud, at Manchline and Muirkirk, on 8th July last, and at various places duriDg the past 2£ years — JOHN COLE- MAN, alias J. ANDERSON and J. MURRAY, age about cO, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, dyspeptic complexion, large features, hair and moustache dark, full dark eyes, prominent nose, smart appearance, walks rapidly, but with a stiffness in his limbs, speaks with English accent; dress, blue cloth jacket suit, hard felt hat. Carried a large b'ack leather bag containing samples of matking ink, liquid gold, and crown cement, of which ho represented he was a roanafacturer, having business promises at Leeds and London. Heundeitook to pay shopkeepers 10s. per month as agents for the pale of his goods, to advertise their businesses in the local newspapers, and to supply show- cases for exhibition, thus inducing them to purchase quantities of the gocds ( which are worthless) for cash. He gave addresses at 16A, Portland- crescent, Leeds; 2, Willoughby- grove, Willoughby Park- road, Tottenham ; and 4, Emma- terrace, Wanstead Flats, London, but com- munications to them have been returned through the Post Office. Warrant issued. 10.— Ayr ( County).— For assault with intent to ravish, atNewmilns, 29th ult.— HUGH M'LAUGH- LAN, age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light ( mixed wiih grey) Iresh cut marks on forehead, left eyebrow covered with plaisier, speaks with Irish accent; dress, light brown tweed jacket, white moleskin trousers, brown tweed cap, heavy boots. A navvy; likely to seek employment at railway or waterworks. Was traced towards Lanarkshire by way of Strathavon. Warrant issued. 11.— Ayr ( County).— For embezzling £ 18 4s. 8d. at Muirkirk, between 11th May and 4th ult.— JOHN McMAHON, age 24, height 5 fc. 7 in., com- pltxion fresh, hair and slight moustache browD, tear right side of neck; smart appearance; speaks Ayrshire dialect; dres3, dark corded jacket and vest, light grey t'ght- fitting trousers, light tweed cap. A miner's agent. Information to the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. BERKSHIRE. 12.— Maidenhead ( Borough). — For stealing, between 27th and 30th nit., 2 casks— WILLIAM HOLLOWAY, alias BILL SMITH, age about 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair aud slight moustache dark brown, eyes blue very small neck, prominent chin; dress, black ttriped jacket, pspper- and- salt trousers, pink- and white silk tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. A fish hawker; native of Newbury, Berks. Occasion- ally employed as deputy at common lodging- houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Maidenhead. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 13.— High Wycombe ( Borough).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences— LOUISA WEST ( supposed false), age 60 to 63, height about 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., rather stout build, complexion sallow, hair grey, eyes light blue, very bad teeth; dress, black serge skirt, blue blouse, yellow flowers, long dark bine cloth cloak, black plain straw hat, boat shape, trimmed black ribbons, bows back and front, wide black lace round neck, laced French kid gloves; wearing a plain gold wedding ring. Calls on clergymen, stating she had been a trained hospital nurse, was the daughter of a farmer of South Wales, widow of a grammar schoolmaster at Bath, aud had five sons living there, speaks French fluently ; addicted to drink. Supposed identical with MADAME CIIANTRIS, seo Case No. 21, 6th September last. Warrant i- sued. Not to be apprehended oat of the United Kingdom. Information to Heal Constable Sparling, High Wycombe. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 14. — Cambridge ( Borouqh) — For stealing £ 53 17s. 41.— CHARLES EGGLETON, age 23, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dai k, hair dark brown ; dre? s, when last seen, dark blue serge coat and vest, lig'it striped trousers, black felt hat, low shoes; carried a brown papsr parjel containing clothing. A booking clerk on L mdon and North Western Railway. Absconded 1st inst. Warrant issued. 15.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealiog an overcoat, on 28th ult. ( recovered) — A man, known as 1! FLUTY," and " MADMAN," age 85 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion dark, rather red face, hair dark brown, clean shaved, large scar right side cf neck; dress, black or blue cloth suit, white cricketing shirt with tarn down collar, black felt hat. Supposed native of Leicester. Attends ra: e meetings; well known amongst betting men. 16.— Cambridge ( Borough).— On a commit- ment warrant for cruelty to a gelding— FRANCIS WEALE, of 80, Milton- road, Plaistow, Essex, age about 33, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in , complexion fresh, light moustache, slight cast in eyes, scar under light; wearing an old Chester 3cld overcoat. Follows race meetings as a cib driver. Information to Chief Cor stable Holland, Cam- bridge. CHESHIRE. 17.— Nantwich ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 28th ult., at Crewe, a handcart, painted slate colour, low wheels, 2 ft. 9 in. or 3 ft. high, long narrow body, tides and front can be taken off, " No. 9" marked on front board— JOSEPH BIRTLE, age ' O 19 or 20, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair dark; dress, dark c'oth jacket aud vest, brown corduroy trousers, datk peak cap, supposed old brown overcoat and lace boots. A rag gatherer ; native of St. Helen's or Wigan. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Meredith, Nantwich. A builder's foreman ; native of Woodbury, Devon. Was at one time employed at Sileby Workhouse, Yorkshire. Lefi Exeter, 24th ult., by 10.35 a. m. train, London and South- Western Railway, for Waterloo. May be accompanied by a woman ago a'lout 23, tall and slight. Warrant issued. Not to bo arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Exeter. DORSETSHIRE. 19.— Blandford (. County).— For deserting his wife and family — PATRICK WILSON, ago 37, height G ft , complexion sallow, liair dark, full beard and moustache black, ryes grey, sjar on knee, sup- posed laft; dress, light tweed coat and vest, dark striped trousers, haid felt hat, low shoes. Native of Stockport. Has terved as master tailor in the 52nd Field Pattery Royal Arti lery. A gojd coat hand ; may seek employment at large aheps. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 20. — Chelmsford ( County). — For stealing ( bailee), 16th ult., a long dark groy mixtuie ulster, band round waist, lined light colour cloth ( nearly new) FLO WERS, ago 08 t j 40, height 5 ft 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, liair and moutach © light brown, eyes blue ; military appearance ; drees, light grey suit and cap, white satin tie. Stated Le was a stnd groom. May seek employment at circuses. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Aldershot . ( County).— For stealing a quantity of zinc, the property of the War Depart- ment— THOMAS GREENER, age 34J, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair brown, slight moustache, eyes blu: sh grey, throws his right leg out when walking. An expert aeronaut. A deserter from the Royal Engineers, in which corps he was Company Sergeant- Major of the Balloon Section. Absconded 24th ult. May endeavour to leavo the country. Warrant issued. Miller, Aldershot. 22— Portsmouth ( Borough).— Portrait and description of WILLIAM DAVIS, alias EDWARD THOMPSON, GEORGE HARRISON, LEWIS JOHNSON, and HENRY BUCKNER, whoso ap- prehension is sought forfailing tosurrender to his bail, 18th ult., charged with larceny:— Age 25, height 5 ft. 7^ in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly) biowr,. eyes grey, mole over right breast, on right buttock, EC" and dots right forearm, abscess mark left > aw. Watford ( County). — For uttering a fictitious cheque— ALFRED NEWTON, age about FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1895. T H E POLICE GAZETTE 5 45, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion, hair and moustache dark, bai recently had his bear! shaved off, thin features; dress, shabby dark clothes and overcoat, black hard felt bat. Supposed identical with ISAAC or WILLIAM NEWTON, a law writer, at one time employed at Coleman- street, to have proceeded to London on 31st ult., and to have been at Bury St. Edmunds 4th inst. Warrant issued. 24.— Watford ( County).— For embezzlement — WILLIAM DAY, age i9 or 20, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, thin face, hair ( inclined to curl) light brown, clean shaved; dress, longb dark serge coat and vest, dark overcoat, light grey trousers, narrow daik stripes, light cap ( all new) A farm labourer ; native of Welwjn, Herts. Recently discharged from tho Army, suffering from varicose veins. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Ormiston, Sonth Wigston. 30.— Leicester ( Borough). — For stealing £ i5 10s.— TtiOMAS SIMPSON, age 18, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in , slight build, complexion fair, hair light bro vn, eyes bine ; dress ( sopposed), dark grey Chesterfield overcoat, dark jacket and veat, dark grey trousers, black bard felt hat, brown boots ( nearly new). A tobacconist's assistant. Absconded 26th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leicester. KENT. 25.— Chatham ( County).— For stealing £ 11 — JOHN HEMM1NGS, age aboat 20, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fair, very slight moustache, slight scar about an inch lorg back of head ; dress, when last seen, dark jacket and vest, brown cord trousers, black- and- white reckerchief, brown cap, elastic side boots. Has worked in Deptford with a coal trolley, as porter at Covent Garden and Borough Markets, and at Ciiffe and Trindesbury as an agricultural labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Licy, Chatham. 26.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For obtaining £ 10 hy false pretence?, on 24th and 2Gth Angust list— CHARLES HOLMES, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. G or 7 in , complexion fresh, full face, hair brown, slight cast in right eye, scar on right cheek; dress, short brown coat, lavender- coloured trousers, black felt bat. Accompanied by a man represented to be bis clerk, age about 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion, hair, moustache and eyes dark; dress, d- srk cloth suit ( morning coat and vest), blue serge cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supfc. Holmar, Sovenoaks. 27.— Sittingbourne ( County).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Milton Union-- JAMES TYLER, age 36, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in , complexion, hair, moustache, and eyes dark, small black mark bridge of nose, large Fear across back of right band, which prevents tho hand being closed; dress, black jacket and vest, lavender stripe trousers1, dark cap, light lace boots. LINCOLNSHIRE. 31.— Gainsborough ( County).— For stealicg, 29th ult, 1 fawn mixture tweed cape, Inverness shape; 1 grey mixture tweed golf ditto, check liniDg; 1 drab mixture tweed ditto, with tartan hood and linin?— MISS VERNON, alias ELLEN JACKSON, JOHNSON, MARION NODEN, GRIFFITHS, VINCENT, LENNOX BROWNING, WILLIAMS, CHISNAL, BLAKE, CHILTON, GOUGH, BASSINGTON, and DUNSCOMBE, age about 40, height 4 ft. 6 or 7 in , slight build, hair dark, two prominent teeth, limps slightly; dress, b'ack serge dress, black silk aud satin cloak, or black jacket, or may be wearing one of the stolen capes, large black hat with red flowers or feathers, sometimes wears a veil. Had with her a brown leather portmanteau, about 2 feet long, and a small square lumper containing a cat. Carried a silk umbre'li. Stated she came Irom Bedford, aud gained her living by doing fancy work. She took apartments at Bawtry, Yorkshire, on 25th ult., and loft on 2Dth by carrier to Djncaster, having in the meantimo secretly removed her luggage, which was addressed, " Mrs. Johnson" She writes to tradespeople, giving a respectable person as reference, and orders goads to be for- warded on approval, and, on receipt, decamps without payirg her bill. ( safe a& d £ 32 4-. tyi re- covered) — THOMAS MORRIS, age 35, height 5 ft. 8J or 9 in., complexion very pile, hair and moustache black, eyes dark, bloc mark bridge of nose and over right eye; dress, black coit and vc3t, black cord trousers, white muffler, sla'e- colonred cap, and atroDg new lace boots. A miner. Well known at Rothc- rbam and Bimsley, Has been con- victed of rioting at Featherstone. Frequents low public- houses — GEORGE HARRIS, age 17$, height 5 ft. in., complexion Leih, hair red, well built; dress, grey tweed suit, hard felt hit.— WALTER DAVIS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight bnild, complexion pale, very thin face, hair dark. The two latter frequent the Salvation Army bhelter, Chapal - street, Edgware - road, London, and the shelters at Blackfriars and Whitechspsl. Warrant issue i. Information to Supt. Hustler, Daventry. 36.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing 21st nit. — 1 silver geneva watch ( large size), No. 71351, open- face crystal glass, 311 scratched inside case— FRANK THOMPSON, age about 27, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion, hair, moustache, and eyes very dark, first and second fingers right hand deficient; dress, dark double- breasted jacket- suit, soft felt hat.— TOM HART, age aboat 22, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair and mongtachc light; dress, dark jacket and vest, li^ ht trousers. LANCASHIRE. 28.— Leigh ( County). — For stealing, 21st ult., a dark grey cloth ulster overcoat, black- and- white plaid lini' g, black bone buttons, usual pockets, belt half- way round waist, " Leigh Co- operative Society" on tab, and a white cotton tie— A MAN, age 21, height 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue, scar bridge of nose ; dress, black jacket and vest, brown striped trousers, elastic side boots, and stolen overcoat and tie. He obtains lodgings, statiog bj has obtained employment in the district, and after staying a short time borrows money under pretence of fetching his boxes from the railway station.
