THE EMTOH requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identifica- tion by the Metropolitan Police the Photo- graphs and descriptive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from Bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door ; stealing bale of silk ; van unattended. & c , & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Warrant issued. 3.— E Division.— For obtaining jewellery by means of a fictitious cheque on the National Batk, Charing Cross branch— GEORGE FREDERICK SAVILLE, age 45, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fair, hiir and heavy moustache light, eyes grey, prominent Jewish nose, speaks loudly, military appearance, well dre= sed. Warrant issued. 4 — J Division.— For failing to surrender to his bail, 22nd inst, on a charge of larceny— HENRY WILSON, supposed identical with Expiree CHARLES WILSON, alias FREDERICK ING, THOMAS PRESTON, CHARLES ROBERTS, and WILLIAM McDONALD, Office No. 46582, a native of Tottenham, Middlesex, age 29, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, several indistinct marks in blue ink on left forearm ; dress, mixture tweed jacket and vest, black trousers, brown striped shirt, black- and- white scarf, lice boots, black hard felt hat ( all old). Accom- panied by a woman, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., c mplexion ruddy, hair dark brown ; dress, print co'. ton dress, black shawl, black straw hat trimmed with black ribbon. These persons tramp the country selling cheap lace and singing hymns in the street, and stay at common lodging houses. May be found at Luton, Bedfordshire. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, ha; r dirk brown, moustache light brown, very prominent nose, heavy eyelids; dress ( when last seen), blue Eerge suit, black h* rd felt hat, brown boots, carried a paper parcel and light brown hand- bag. Lately employed as collector for the Refuge Insurance Society; lodged at a Dublic- house since December last and assisted in the bar. A member of the " Order of Buffaloes." Supposed to have come from Nottingham. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Tewsley, Reading. 7— Windsor ( Borough). — For stealing £ 60— WILLIAM F. VIZER, age 19 ( looks younger),, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight baild, complexion pale, hair light, eyes ( rather weak) grey; dress, blno coat, light trousers, hard felt hat. A clerk; native of Slough. Absconded 17th inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Windsor. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 8. — Chepping Wycombe ( Borough).— ALFRED HORLEY, Case No. 17, 19th Jaly last, not to be arrested. Warrant withdrawn. BERKSHIRE. 5.— Reading ( Borough). — For shopbreaking— DAVID HODGES, age 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., oval face, hair dark brown, slight moustache ; walks with right leg stiff; dress, dark jacket and vest, dt> rk corduroy trousers, blue neckerchief with white spots, light brown cap. For making counterfeit coin— GEO. STANLEY, alias GEORGE WEBBER, a? eabout28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in , complexion fair, smart appearance; dress, dark clothes, skull cap. Supposed native of Bristol. Hack, Fareham. 14.— Ringwood ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences, 12th ult. — CHARLES DE CBIR ( supposed false), age about 35, height oft. 8 or 9 in, complexion fresh, hair and moustache sandy; respectable appearance; dress, blue serge suit, brass buttons on jacket, peak cap with badge on front. Stated he was a petty officer of H. M. S. " Celtic," at Shoreham. Warrant issue 1. Information to Supt. Hadden, Ringwood. 15— Portsmouth ( Borough). — Portrait and description of WILLIAM DAVIS, alias EDWARD THOMPSON, GEORGE HARRISON, LEWIS JOHNSON, and HENRY BUCKNER, whose ap- prehension is sought forfailing tosurrender to his bail, 18th ult., charged with larceny:— Age 25, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair ( curly) biown, eyes grey, mole over right breast, on right buttock, " EC" and dots right forearm, abscess mark left raw. Is an expert pickpocket, and frequents trams, omnibuses, theatres, &}. Warrant issued. 16. — Portsmouth ( Borough). — For uttering coun'erfeit coin- THOMAS O'BRIEN ( supposed false), age about 70, height 5 It. 6 in., complexion pale, thin features, hollow cheeks, hair and whiskers grey, stoops, and walks badly; wore long dark over- coat with astrachan collar, soft felt or skull c^ p ; carried a black bag. Supposed previously convicted. Is accompanied by a man giving the name of STANLEY, but whose name is GEO. WEBBER, age about 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, smart appearance; wearing dark clothes, skullcap. A butcher, but presumably carries on the occupation of a qaa^ k doctor. They came from London on 22nd September last, and immediately commenced making and nttoriug counterfeit coin. See Case No. 13. Information to the Chief Conitabl^, Town Hall, Portsmouth. 17.— Southampton ( Borough).— For stealing. 5th May last, a silver watch ( recovered)— JOHN REYNOLDS, alias HILLS and BELL, age 28, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eye3 grey, female figure tattooed inside right fore- arm, sailor, female, table and bottle inside left forearm, blue cut mark back of right hand. A stoker; native of Ashton- under- Lyme. His modus operandi is to ascertain the where- abouts of persons who have sons in the Army serving in India, to whom he introduces himself, stating that he has just returned from the regiment, and has brought home a present from their son. This he usually describes as a parrot or a monkey, which, he states, he has left at the railway statioD, adding that he requires lodgings and has deferred pay to draw. In this case he obtained lodgings and decamped with the watch. He was sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment at Horsham Quarter Sessions, on 20th June last, as JOHN REYNOLDS, alias HILL and BELL, and to 2 months at Havant Petty Sessions, on 6th July last for stealing a coat, in name of JOHN HILLSr alias REYNOLDS. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Berry, South- ampton. ( recovered)- JOHN SEYMOUR, alias WATSON, age about 38, height 5 ft 7 io., slight build, com- plexion pale, long features, hair, beard ( clipped and pointed), and moustache dark, large nose ; speaks with Scotch accent; dress, blue cloth coat and vest, striped tweed trousers, low shoes, hard felt hat. A photographer. He lodged at a house for three weeks, absconded without paying for board, & c., taking the books with him. Supposed wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. LEICESTERSHIRE. 23.— Leicester ( Borough). — For stealing £ 35 10s.— THOMAS SIMPSON, age 18, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in , slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue ; dress ( supposed), dark grey Chesterfield overcoat, dark jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, black hard felt hat, brown boots ( nearly new). A tobacconist's assistant. Absconded 26th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 24. — K e S t e V 6 n ( Oounty). — ALFRED COUSENS, Case No. 34, 25th ult., not now wanted. KENT. 18.— Chatham ( County).— For suffering young girls to be carnally known on his premises— CHARLES STONE, age 28 to 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair dark, moustache black; speaks with north country accent; wearing dark clothes. Ha"? been employed as a messenger at Chatham Dockyard. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham. 19.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences, on 24th and 26th August list— CHARLES HOLMES, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in , complexion fresh, fnll face, bair brown, slight cast in right eye, scar on right cheek ; dress, short brown coat, lavender- coloured trousers, blaok felt hat. Accompanied by a mm represented to be his clerk, age about 50, height 5 ft.. 4 or 5 in., complexion, hair, moustache and eyes dark; drees, dark cloth suit ( morning coat and vest), blue serge cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Holmar, Sevenoaks. NORFOLK. 25.— Norwich ( City).— For obtaining 3 horses, value £ 124, by means of a worthless cheque : 1st. a black- brown gelding, about 16 hands, 8 years ; 2nd, a black gelding, 16 bands 1 in., rising 5 years, small eyes, white fetlocks, very short dock— both light cart- horses ; 3rd, a bay gelding, 16 hands 2 in., rising 5 years, white star ou forehead, very Jong dock, a heavy cart- horse— JOHN H. SANDERS, alias CHARLES PITTERS, late of Little Stukely, Hunts, age about 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, square shoulders. Appearance of a horse dealer. Supposed an army reservist. 2nd, age about 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in , complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) turning grey, thick dark moustache ; drers, new white vest and slop, white cord trousers, single pealsed cap. Navvies, lately employed on the M. S. and L. Railway now in course of construction at Woodford. 27.— Daventry ( County). — For officebreaking aud stealing a sa:' e containing £ 62 19s. 10d., at Woodford, on 18th ult. ( safe and £ 32 4s. l^ d. re- covered) — THOMAS MORRIS, age 35, height 5 ft. 8b or 9 in., complexion very pale, hair and moustache black, eyes dark, blue mark bridge of nose and over right eye ; dress, black coat and vest, black cord trousers, white muffler, slate- coloured cap, and strong new lace boots. A miner. Well known at Rotherham and Barnsley. Has been con- victed of rioting at Featherstone. Frequents low public- houses. — GEORGE HARRIS, age 17£, height 5 ft. 3^ in., complexion fresh, hair red, well bnilt; dress, grey tweed suit, hard felt hat. — WALTER DAVIS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight bnild, complexion pale, very thin face, hair dark. The two latter frequent the Salvation Army shelter, Chapel - street, Edgware - road, London, and the she'tsrs at Blackfriars and Whitechapel. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Has left his homo on previous occasions, whan he has been found in railway trucks.— NOAH PARKER age 11, height 4 ft. 3^ in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey. Native of Heath Town, Wolverhampton. Both wearing cord jackets bound with red braid, cord waistcoats with brass buttons, and cord trousers. Information to Chief Supt. Hill, Burslom, by whom the above reward will ba paid for the appre- hension of either. SURREY. 31.— Reigate ( Borough). — For deserting his wife and child, leaving them chargeable to the Reigate Union— DAVID WALTER SHEPPERD, age 30 to 35, height about 6 feet, thin build, broad shoulders, stoops slightly, hair and moustache sandy. Has been employed at gas works, and may seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Redhill. SUSSEX ( EAST). 32.— Brighton ( Borough).— For embezzlement BEN RICHARD REDMAN, age about 28, height about 6 ft., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache light; of gentlemanly appearance; well dressed. A commercial traveller. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Carter, Brighton. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. BERKSHIRE. 33.— Maidenhead ( County).— Sentenced to 2 months imprisonment for stealing carpenter's and bricklayer's tools— THOMAS WELLS, age at out 54, height 5 ft. 1 in , rather stout build, complexion pale, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes blue; dress, black diagonal frock coat, morning coat, thin white holland jacket, grey cloth trousers with dark stripe, black hard felt hat. Refuses his address. Supposed wanted for similar offences elsewhero. Information to Supt. Dorrell, Maidenhead. 34.— Newbury ( County).— Remanded till 4th inst. for stealing a watch and chain ( recovered) — CHARLES MATTHEWS, alias CHARLES SMITH, age 23, height 5 ft. 10£ in., complexion florid, hair dark, eyes grey, scar over right eye, tattooed 3 dols left wrist, 1 dot right arm; drees, dirk serge suit, white collar, red necktie, grey cloth cap, lace boots. He obtained lodgings on 26th ult. by stating that he was a newly appointed cWk on the Greit Western Railway; went to a bedroom under pretence of washing his hands, stole the watch, and decamped.
