AH announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to XIIE Kuirou OF TUB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning person s whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTB, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will he likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4 /„ all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property. wiU be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of\ bs. per portrait, and of 7s. dd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving ok rr* jod. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed hy the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concern ing stolen property must be guaranteed by ait officer of not less rank than Inspect*** n" n> o'in" s flrvfp 8. A nnounennents of all persons lo he apprehended or of stolen properly bear a number, and are \ alphabetically arranged by counties. ' 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to he asserted in the FOLIC* GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signinq the request for insertion of any announcement, will he wholly responsible for any proceedings to'lith may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be foncaraed so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday ed. lion not laterthan Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either fit the office, Xew Scotland lard, hy cheque, c rossed " Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GUETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rales on application. 14. The following iB a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the deteO' tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of orime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of th* Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police o* any County or Borough, must be c'early expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable, ( a) The person by whom it will be paid. ( J) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. S. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, In relation to property stolen, or criminally taken ox disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender Veins brought to trial, or without enquiry. Downes, Macclesfield. 13.— Middlewich ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 18th nit.— A man, who gave the name of C. STEELE, ago 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion tanned, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue, slightly lame, and carries a stick ; cf gentlemanly and seafaring appearance; dress, blue serge suit, and cap with peak. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Large, Middlewich. JTL REWARD. 14.— Birkenhead ( Bormigh).— For stealing £ 55— LANCELOT PURCELL, age 42, height 5 ft. 11^ in., complexion ruddy, hair and moustache dark ( turning grey), slight cast in left eye, 2fiDger3 of right hand stiS and straight, L. H. P." tattooed on left forearm. Native of Liverpool; a pensioned sergeant of the Royal Artillery. Has been employed as a tramcar driver. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid for his arrest by the Birkenhead Tramways Company, Limited. CHESHIRE. 11— Broxton ( County).— On a warrant for stealing a light- coloured go'ding donkey ( net re- DENBIGHSHIRE. 15.— Denbigh ( County). — For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences — A man, giving the name of ROBERT JAMES WILSON, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in , moustache and slight hide whiskets dark; dre6s, brown coat with faint green stripes, black waistcoat, brown trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots ( worn), had with him a grey cap, and carried a check Inverness mackin- tosh. He obtained lodgings from the 8th to the 10th inst., under the pretence that he was the son of a contractor at Chester, and had come to make preliminary arrangements for building a house in tbe neighbourhood, and that the workmen would follow iu a few days. Jones, Denbigh. 16.— Wrexham ( County).— For stealing, 9th inst., 2 nearly new platinum dishes ( weight, 1 about 120 grammes, 1 about 90 grammes) ; I ditto, about 50 grammes, used a little; 1 ditto, about 10 grammes, old; 2 platinum crucibles, nearly new ( weight, 1 about 30, 1 about 20 grammes); a quantity of old platinum in form of 1 or 2 crucibles, and a large platinum boat, N. B., 1 gramme 1543 grs. — WILLIAM RICHARD HARRIS, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion pale, round face, hair light brown, eyes grey, rather pointed chin, rather round- shouldered, carries his head forward and his hand in trousers pooket when walking, good looking. An analytical student. Will probably endeavour to emigrate to India. Had iu his possession a large brown leather bag, " Harris " thereon. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Yaughan, Wrexham. i DURHAM. 17.— Durham ( City).— For stealing, 20t. h inst., a pair of light blue cloth trousers, and a black coat nnd vest, fine material— ALBERT PEIRSON, alias WILLIAM SMITH, ago 19, height 5 ft. 4J in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair ginger, eyes blue, scar left eyebrow and right of forehead, hull of yaiht tattooed on right forearm, 5 lines, " love," and dot inside left forearm, indistinct mark back of left forearm, half bracelet and dot left wrist, yacht and scar back of left hand, V and 2 marks right side of chest, sailor, cross, and indistinct mark inside fore- arm ; dress, blue serge jacket, light mixture vest, light check trousers, blue peak cap ( all much worn). A seaman ; native of Lambeth. Was sentenced to ona month's imprisonment at North Shields, 13th ult., for larceny, and has been four times convicted at Lambeth Police Court. Has a soldier's certificate of discharge in his possession. Is tramping his way to London. Information to Chief Constable Smith, City Police, Durham. ESSEX. 18— Brentwood ( County).— Escaped from the custody of the police, 10th inst., charged with larceny— JAMES BAKER, age about 55, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair and side whiskers dark, stoops; dress, dirty dark brown jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, round black hard felt hat, black- and- white scarf. Allen, Brentwood. 19. — Chelmsford ( County).— For larceny— FREDERICK STRATTON, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair light; dress, drabett jacket and trousers, cloth cap, heavy lace boots. A labourer; native of East Hanningfield. Is sup- posed to have enlisted. Warrant issued. Tramps. They left Saffron Walden by 2.8 p. m. train, on 18th inst., for Stratford. Information to Supt. Simmonds, Saffron Walden. 21.— Southend- on- Sea ( Ovunty). — For stealing, on 26th ult., at Canvey Island, a cask con- tairiitg 9 gallons of beer— GEORGE COOK, alias BILL HYMAS, JOHN HUME, and CAPTAIN, age about 38, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair, whiskers, and moustache dark brown, uirty appearance; dress, dirty light twill jacket, cord vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, heavy lace boots. A labourer; supposed native of Suffolk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawtree, Southend- on- Sea. GLAMORGANSHIRE- 22.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For stealing 1 lady's silver geneva watch, No. 98398; 1 silver albert; and 13s. from his lodgings— ERNEST WALTER HAINES, age 25. height 5 ft. 6% in., complexion sallow, oval face, hair dark brown, small brown moustache, small blue eyes ( weak), scar top of fore- head, faint scar centre ditto, and left cheek, blue dot between left thumb and forefinger; dress, black coat and vest, striped trousers, dark cap. A ship's steward. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— Bitterne ( County). — For desorting his children, 16th April last— GABRIEL CHAPMAN, age 34, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, scar under chin, large lump back of left hand. A ship's plater. Is supposed to be known at Sunderland and Newcastle- on- Tyne. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Bitterne. 24 — Fareham ( County). — For embezzling £ 15 19s. 4d.— ARTHUR HENRY WOOD, late poor- rate collector for Havant Union, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes groy ; dress ( usually), light check suit, blaok felt hat, brown leather boots, or may be wearing knicker- bockers and stockings. A native of Havant. Ab- sconded 17th ult. May seek employment as clerk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brewer, Fareham. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For unlawfully pledging articles of jewellery ( recovered ).— J ENNIE DERRINGER, alias PHELPS, and BROWN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexioa fair, hair dark brown, eyes ( supposed) blue, good teeth; wore FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 1895 T H E POLICE GAZETTE. 3 dark grey ulster and black straw sailor bat. Was accompanied by GEORGE SIMS, alias DERRIN GER ( supposed to be her husband), age about 45, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark browD, eyea brown. They are well- kcown at music halls, having travelled the provinces as sketch artists aod comedians, and may be found singing on the beach at sea- side towns. " Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. 2t;— Southampton ( Borough).— For stealing an opeu- face patent lever watch, No. 56043 ; a loni> silver neck chain ; and a silk handkerchief— GEO. FORDER, age 22, height o ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes dark; dress, tweed jacket, dirty cord trousers and vest, striped Oxford shirt, cloth peak cap, heavy nailed boots ( down at heel). HEREFORDSHIRE. 27.— Weobly ( County).— For stealing from bis lodgings a gold ring, set amethyst in claw setting— A MAN, age 26, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, bair light browD, clean shaved, rather large mouth, shows his teeth when talking; dress, light plaid coat and vest ( largo squares, with small red stripe), light plaid breeches, drab cloth leggings, white straw hat, brown laco boots; was riding a bicycle. KENT. 29— Chatham ( County).— For stealing £ 40 — JOHN CHESTER, age 25, height 5 ft. 4i in., com- plexion fair, hiir light brown, eyos bluo, tattooed sailor dancing on left forearm, dots on right wrist. A corporal of the Army Service Corp3, fri m which he is a de= orter. Previously employed as a carman; native of St. Giles', London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham. LANCASHIRE. 30.— Chu rch ( County).— For aiding and abetting gaming— MOSES CLAYTON, alias BALAPER, age 34, height abont o ft. 8 in., strong build, complexion fresh, very red neck, hair brown, eyes blue, cut scar right of chin, brown mark right arm and back of band; dross, old dark tweed coat, dirty moleskin trousers, cap, heavy shoos ( nearly new). A labourer.— GEORGE SMITHSON, age 55, com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, cross, flags, m « ; rmaid right forearm, sword, anchor, and " 1661" left forearm, coal marks on hand and arm, lame, and stoops when walking ; of drunken appearance ; dross, brown ooat, dark tweed trousers, and shoes. Frcquonts low public- houses, and imitates stop- dances with two spoons on his knees. Said to bo well knowu at. Shudehill, Manchester, and has relatives at Walton- le- dale and Preston.
