All announcements for Insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should he addressed to THE EDITOR or THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action io be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen properly will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to he thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of\ hs. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendentand, if the name of such person be required to he inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed hy the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or aual- oaous ilaw 1 n - A- TXOJNf K. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen properly bear a number, and are alphabeticollt/ arranged by counties. . 0. The force ivhich causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted < » the Pouoe GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recevery, at once transmit to the Lditor notice of the fact, referrin g to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next utve. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, fill be wholly responsible for any proceedings tohuh man result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the i'ridau issue should be fortcaraed so as to be received not later thin noonon Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. Theymust be clearly written on one tide of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Sev Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond ft Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. „, 13. The following ia a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such noticeB, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of erixoe, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be e'early expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( o) The person by whom it will be paid. ( cf) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. S, No expression must be used in such an advertise tnent, In relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. An Italian; travels the country with a piano organ, and repairs boots when staying in lodging bouses. '.— Macclesfield ( County). — For stealing, 16th inst., at Lvme Handley, a chamois leather bag containing £ 19 - GEORGE D0B30N, age 35, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in , complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache and s- nall tide whiskers dark; drass, li^ ht grey pleid jacket, grey cloth troupers ( with a bluish shade), small check clo h cap, heavy lace boots. Native of Diuiutjn, near Shaffiold. Warrant itsned. Information to Supt. Downe3, Macclesfield. 8.— Middlewich ( County). — For obtaining money by false preiences, 18th ult— A man, who gave the name of C. STEELE, ago 30 to 35, ho> ght & ft. 8 in., complexion tanned, hair and moastache dark, eyes blue, slightly lame, and carries a stick; f gen'lemanly and boafarmg appearance; dress, bluo serge suit, and cip with peak. Native of Liverpool; a pensioned sergeant of the Royal Artillery. Has besn employed as a tramcar driver. Warrant i- sued. The above reward will be paid for his arrest by the Birkenhead Tramways Company, Limited. 10.— Birkenhead ( Borough).— For failing to report— License Holder WILLIAM WILSON, alias ATKINSON, and ATKINS, Office No. 48052, age 50, height 5 ft. 5 in, complexion dark, hair black ( bald), moustache black, eyes brown, scar top of head, left of forehead, back of neck, cruci6x right forearm, anchor, flag and bracelet back of right wrist, " M. C.," cross and star inside left arm, cross, female's bead and flag on chest, rings tattooed on a'l fkgers. Sentenced at Birkenhead Assizes, 23rd July, 1879, to 15 years penal servitude for burglary. CUMBERLAND. 11.— Whitehaven ( County).— For failing to report — License Holder JAMES KELLY, Office No. 44812, age G8, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair fair, eyes light blue ( blind), round face, stout build, bald top of head, left eye out, and right eye protrudes, hairy chest and belly, beard grey, several moles on right side, 4th right fiager injured, scar back of left shoulder. Sentenced at Glasgow, 28th December, 1877, to 20 years penal servitude for cu'pable homicide. Licensed 25ih May, 1893. D 1407. Information to Snpt. Kelly, Whitehaven. DENBIGHSHIRE. 12— Wrexham ( County). — For stealing, 9th inst,, 2 nearly new platinum dishes ( weight, 1 about 120 grammes, 1 about 90 grammes); I ditto, about 50 grammes, used a little; 1 ditto, about 10 grammes, old; 2 platinum crucibles, nearly new ( weight, 1 about 30, 1 about 20 grammes); a quantity of old platinum in form of 1 or 2 crucibles, and a large platinum boat, N. B., 1 gramme 15- 43 grs. — WILLIAM RICHARD HARRIS, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion pale, round face, hair light bro vn, eyes grey, rather pointed chin, rather round- shouldered, carries his head forward and his hand in trousers pocket when walking, good looking. An analytical student. Will probably endeavour to emigrate to India. Had in his possession a largo brown leather bag, " Harris " thereon. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Vanghan, Wrexham. DEVONSHIRE. 13.— Devonport ( Borough).— For abandoning a girl, age anout 4. on 17th ult.— A. PARSONS, alias A. PATSON, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fair, sharp features, hair and moustache sandy; dress, grey suit, cord c. ip, black shoes. Stattd be was a detective from London, and was going to Manchester. Accompanied by a woman, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 cr 7 in.; dross, light eolour dress, round rim hat, trimmed brown fur; of good address. They received pircelson approval from all parts of the country, but failed to return either goods or money. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Matters, Devon- port. DURHAM. 14.— Sunderland ( Borryugh). — For stealing £ 35,2> tb ult.— THOMAS WILLIAM DAVISON, ago 21, 1 e ght 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, com plexiou sallow, hair black, slight dark moustache, long neck and very prominent gullet, short- sighted, stoops; dress, black serge jacket and vest, light grey trousers, grey tweed cap. A clerk ; native of Sunderland. May endeavour to go to America,. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Huntley, Sunder- land. ESSEX. 15— Brentwood ( County).— Escaped from the custody of the police, 10th in9t., charged with larceny— JAMES BAKER, age about 55, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair and side \\ hisker3 dark, stoops; dreS9, dirty dark brown jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, round black hard felt hat, black- and- white scarf. A farm labourer. Information to Supt. Allen, Brentwood. 16.— Chelmsford ( County). — For larceny— FREDERICK STRATTON, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair light; die s, drabitt jacket and trousers, cloth cap, boavy lace boots. A labourer; native of East Hanningfield. Is sup- posed to havo enlisted. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. 17.— Saffron Waiden ( County).— For stealing, 18th inst., from Ugley Post Office, a cash- box, con- taining postil orders to the value of £ 5 10s., from Is, unstamped; a quantity of postage stamps; a brown leather purse, and £ 3 5s.— TWO MEN : 1st, age about 50, height 5 ft. 11 in., hair ( turning grey) and small moustache dark; dress, dark coat auO trousers, hard felt hat. 2ud, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft 8 in., complexion, bair and moustache dark ; dress, old dark jaiket and trousers, dark peak cap. Tramps. They left Saffron Waiden by 2.8 p. m train, on 18th inst., for Stratford. Information to Supt. Simmonds, Saffron Waiden. 18. — Southend- On- Sea ( County). — For stealing, on 26ih ult., at Canvey Island, a cask enn- tainirg 9 gal'ons of beer— GEORGE COOK, alias BILL HYMAS, JOHN HUME, and CAPTAIN, nge al out 38, height 5 ft. 9 in., comp'exion dark, hair, whiokers, and moustacbo dark brown, uirty appearance; drcis, dirty light twill jacket, cord vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, heavy lace boots. A labourer; supposed native of Suffolk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawtreo, Southend- on- Sea. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 19. — Cardiff ( Borough). — For stealing £ 7 from a till on 20th ult. — CORNELIUS BRIAN, late of Milton- street, Cardiff, age 22, height 5 ft 5 in., complexion dark, oval face, rather large mouth, hair dark brown, small dark moustache, eyes brown, scar top of bead and left thigh, ring on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fingers, blue dot bai k of left hand, ring on front of right forearm, 3 blue dots front of left forearm. A labourer. May be found in company of prostitutes, and frequents " free and ea « ys " at public- houses. Warrant issued. 20.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For stealing 1 lady's silver gei. cva watch, No. 98398; 1 silver albert; and 13s. from his lodgings— ERNEST WALTER HAINES, age 25. height 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, oval face, hair dark brown, small brown moustache, small blue eyes ( weak), scar top of fore- head, faiDt scar centre ditto, and left cheek, blue dot between left thumb and forefinger; dress, black coat and vest, striped trousers, dark cap. A ship's steward. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Bitterne ( County). — For deserting his children, 16th April last— GABRIEL CHAPMAN, age 34, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, scar under chin, large lump back of left hand. A ship's plater. Is supposed to be known at Sunderland and Newcastle- on- Tyne. Warrant issued. Inlormation to Supt. Matthews, Bitterne. 22. — Fareham ( County). — For embezzling £ 15 19s 4d — ARTHUR HENRY WOOD, late poor rate collector for Havant Union, age 36. height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion tair, hair brown, eyes grey ; dress ( usually), light check suit, black felt hat, brown leather boots, or may be wearing knicker- b ckers and stockings. A native of Havant. Ab- sconded 17th ult. May seek employment as clerk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brewer, Fareham. 23.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing sheets, & c. ( recovered), from furnished lodgings— WILLIAM LEICESTER, alias IVORY, age about 35, height 5 ft., complexion and moustache dark; dress, brown coat, corduroy trousers, black hard leli hat j appearance of a navvy. Supposed native of Fulbam. May bo found working at docks, or tramping the country.— ELIZ A BETH WARREN, alius AV> ORYt. age about 40, h( ight 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout build, i complexion and hair ( wavy) darky eyes dark brown, upper front teeth deficient; wearing brown ulster, brown bonnet or bl- ick straw sail ir hat. Information to tho Chief Constable, Portsmouth. 24.— Southampton ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail, charged with larceny — VICTOR OHLY, alias RITCHIE, ALBERTS, and BENSON, age 47, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair light, moustache and tuft on chin, eyis blue, largo indented sear on left check ( see Case No. 18, 31st ult.) Z P 995. 26— Southampton ( Borough)— For stealing, 12th inst., a tln- ee- quirter- loLifcth rod cloak, stand-, up collar, trimmed with beaver fur, lined shot silk ; a lady's silk umbrella, silver knob handle; and a black moire silk sunshade, silver kneb handle—- WILLIAM HOLIDAY, a commercial traveller, ngc 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and small moustache dark brown, < yes dark ; dress, black coat and vest ( silk facings), pepper- and- salt colour trousers, straw hat, button boots, was wealing a scarf- pin, set with one pearl, surrounded with brilliants. HEREFORDSHIRE. 27.— Weobly ( Cou nty).— For stealing from bis lodgings a gold ring, set nmethyst in claw setting— A MAN, age 26, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair li^ ht brown, clean shaved, rather largo mouth, shows his teeth when talking; dress, light plaid coat and vest ( large i- qnarts, with small red stripe), light plaid breech* s, drab cloth leggings, white straw bat, brown lace boots; was riding a bicycle. Frequents low public- liouaes, arid imitates step- dauce-; with two spoons on his kr. ees. S- iid to bo well known at Shudchill, Manchester, and has relatives at Walton- le- dalo and Preston.
