The force mhic I causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the L'OLICFL GAZEITE. must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue ! 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, wilt be wholly responsible for any proceedings w\ iih mai/ result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday istue should be forwaraed so as to bereceired not laterthan noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They mutt be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond <$" Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. STAFFORDSHIRE. 1.— Stafford ( County).— JPort- rait and description of License Holder THOMAS The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. Tho Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1, Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of kh « Commissioners, on the application of private persons, at of the Police of any County or Borough, must be c'early expressed in relation to the following points— ( o) The amount of the reward. ( b) The conditions on which it is payable, ( o) The person by whom it will be paid, ( rf) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. S. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender beins brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Folice Force at which Notices can be posted. BOND, alius JOHN WRIGHT, Office No. 48099 ( see Case 103, 31st ult.), whose apprehension is sought for double murder, at Orgreave, 31st ult. :— Age 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair dark- brown, eyes blue, mole front of right shoulder, scar left side of forehead, inside 1st left finger, and outside bottom joint of ditto, and right side of back. A shoe- maker and labourer. Has a revolver, and is believed to be insane. Sentence 1 at Nottingham Assizes, 18th July, 1890, to 5 years penal servitude for breaking and entering. Licensed 8th May, 1895. M Q 32. Information to the Chief Constable, Stafford. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 2. — C. I. Department. — For failing to surrender to his bail, chaiged with bigamy in France— HENRY ZIMMERMANN, age 49, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair, full whiskers and moustache black, eyes brown ; dress, dark suit, round felt hat. A chef; native of Savigny, France. For- merly employed at the Officers' Mess, 2nd Life Guards. Photograph may be sren on application. Extradition warrant issued. 3— C Division.— For stealing £ 231 lis. Id.— JOHN BURBIDGE, age 45, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark ( turning grey), eyes dark browr, cataract in left; dress, dark morning coat and vest, daik tweed trousers with light strip?, high silk hat. 4.— E Division. — For obtaining money by filse pretences- GEORGE CROWE, of 45, Plas- turton- avenne, Cardiff, pga about 45, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout bnild, square shoulders, c mplexion ruddy, hair, moustache, and beard ( clipped to a point) light browD, eyes grey, very emphatic in manner; drc: s, bine serge suit, black b. iwler hat. Usually . carries a small black bag. A civil and mechanical engineer. Had offices at 15, Bank- buildings, St. Mary- street, Cardiff. He obtained sums of money from firms of engineers in London and the provinces, under the pretence that he had orders to place, and would forward plans and specifications on receipt of deposit. Warrant issued. 5.— E Division. — For larceny ( bailee) — HENRY GEORGE WILKIE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 in , stout bnild, complexion dark, hair and moustache black, eyes dark ( very full), swaggering gait; dress ( generally), dark clothes, sometimes wears white straw ha*. Formerly a sergeant of tin Durham Light Infantry; now iu the First Olass Army Reserve. He hired a piano on the three years' system, an! after paying a few instalments, sold it and absconded. Warrant issued. 6.— M Division.— For conspiracy and obtain- ing, by fraud, a brown gelding, aged, 14£ hands— WALTER ADAMS, age 20, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair, slight moustache, and eyes dark; dresp, dark serge suit, pink shirt, black bari felt hat, brown boots.— J. NOBLE, age 18, height 5 ft. 7 in, complexion fair, hair ( curled on forehead) light, eyes blue; dress, black coit and vest, lavender colour trousers, peak cap. Natives of Loadoa. May be found hawking crockery ware in the provinces. Warrant issued. 7.— V Division.— For horsestealing, 20th nit.— ROBERT RIDDLE, alias SMITH, sge 28, height ft. 11 in., complexion ( thin features), hair, mous- tache, and eyes dark; dress, dark jacket and trousers, black hard felt hat. Native of London. Well known at Bristol, where he may bo found hawking. 8— Y Division.— For unlawfully wounding— ARTHUR SQUIRES, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., 2 T H E POLICE GAZETTE. Has served in 7th battalion Rifle Brigade ( Militia). Plays a banjo and sells songs, and may be found in country towns and seaside resorts. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police O'ffice, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 9— Maidenhead ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 4 16s. 9d. by means of a forged cheque, signed " George Lambert," on the London and Provincial Bank, Bermondsey Branch— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., thin build, complexion, hair, bushy whiskers, moustache and eyes dark; dress, brown coat, black hard felt hat, wore a white apron; appearance of a painter. He stated he had been sent by a neighbour, whose endorsement was forged, to obtain cash for the cheque. Information to Supt. Taylor, Maidenhead. 10. — Windsor ( Borough). — For obtaining £ 4 16s. 9d. by means of a fictitious cheque on the London and Provincial Bank, Limited, Bermondsey Branch, No. c/ v 25408, signed " George Lambert," endorsed " D. Cox"— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in,, slight build, complexion and hair dark, moustache and bushy beard black; dress, brown jacket, black hard felt hat; appearance of a smith. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, 11.— Aylesbury ( Oounty). — For unlawfully wounding, on 9th inst.— RAFFAELE MAZZONE, of No. 1, Back- hill, Clerkenwell, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark, hair ( curly) black, small moustache and eyes dark; dress, black cardigan jacket, very dark corduroy trousers, red silk handkerchief with flowers thereon round neck, black cloth peak cap, new elastic side boots. A n Italian; travels the country with a piano organ, and repairs boots when staying in lodging houses. Left his organ here and went away with Rcbecca Ewers, age about 17, height about 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark ; wearing dark clothes, and white apron. A native of Aylesbury. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Webb, Aylesbury. 12.— Slough ( County).— For stealing, 7th inst., at Eton— 1 pair small gold earrings, set pearls ; 1 silver lever watch; 1 silver albert, long links, silver elephant appendage; 1 lady's gold chain, long links about 3 in. apart; 1 silver geneva watch, " E. T." on back ; 1 silver chain and locket, leaves engraved thereon, photo of a soldier inside; 1 small silver chain with pendant and cross set with imitation diamonds; 1 gold ring, set with garnets, some missiiig ; 1 silver brooch with 3 horseshoes; I pair gold earrings, padlock pattern; 1 pair gold wire ditto; 1 pair black ditto, gold wires; 1 gold keeper ring, engraved; 1 silk scarf, marone stripe, " E. Brown," on corner; 1 black hand- big E. Brown" on lining — ED WARD CLIFFORD, a painter, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, eyes light, rings tattooed on fiDgers of left hand, ship on chest; dress, black coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, bla k hard hat, side- spring boots. Plays a banjo and mandoline in public houses. Warrant ksued. Information to Supt. Sutton, Slough. CHESHIRE. 13.— Broxton ( County).— On a warrant for stealing a light- coloured gelding donkey ( not re- covered), has a small abscess mark under tail, is iu good condition— Expirte JOHN DARCEY, Office No. 22870, age 71, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, hair grey, eyes grey, 2 scars right side ot forehead, 1 between eyes, on neck, light eyebrow, right shin, 3 left of forehead, 1 on left ear, left elbow, left wrist, left thumb, left thigh, left little toe bent, nose fiautured. Sentenced at Shrewsbury Sessions, 14th October, 1879, to 5 years penal servi- tude for stealing an ass. F 952. Information to Deputy Chief Constable, County Police, Broxton. 14.— Middlewich ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 18th ult.— A man, who gave the name of C. STEELE, ago 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion tanned, hair and moustaahe dark, eyes blue, slightly lame, and carries a stick ; of gentlemanly and seafaring appearance; dress, blue serge suit, and cap with peak. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Large, Middlewicb. JE1 REWARD. \ 15.— Birkenhead ( Borough). — For stealing £ 55— LANCELOT PURCELL, age 42, height 5 ft. llf in., complexion ruddy, hair and moustache dark ( turning grey), slight cast in left eye, 2 firgers of right hand stiff and straight, L H. P." tattooed on left forearm. Native of Liverpool; a pensioned sergeant of the Royal Artillery. Has been employed as a tramcar driver. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid for bis arrest by tlio Birkenhead Tramways Company, Limited. 16.— Birkenhead ( Borough).— For failing to report— License Holder WILLIAM WILSON, alias ATKINSON, and ATKINS, Office No. 48052, age £ 0, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion dark, hair black ( bald), moustache black, eyes brown, scar top of bead, left of forehead, back of neck, crucifix right forearm, anchor, flag and bracelet back of right wrist, " M. C.," cross and star inside left, arm, cross, female's head and flag on chest, rings tattooed on all fingers. Sentenced at Birkenhead Assizes, 23rd July, 1879, to 15 years penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 24th April, 1895. Remanet of former sentence expires llth September, 1895. YF 744. DERBYSHIRE. 17.— Bel per ( County).— For obtaining goods by false pretences at Ripley, on 16th ult.— RALPH HOUSLEY, age about 60, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., stout build, complexion fresh, good features, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes grey ; dre- s, dirty brown tweed suit, double- breasted vest with two rows of bright buttons, trousers patched at knees with chocolate colour tweed, black silk handkerchief round neck, old scft hat, strong lace boots. Native of Winster, near Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Well known in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Stafford- shire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McDonald, Belper. DEVONSHIRE. 18.— Devonport ( Borough).— For abandoning a girl, age about 4, on 17th ult.— A. PARSONS, alias A. PATSON, ago 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fair, sharp features, hair and moustache sandy; dress, grey suit, cord cap, black shoes Stated he was a detective from London, and was going to Manchester. Accompanied by a woman, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in.; dress, light colour dress, round rim hat, trimmed brown fur ; of good address. They received ptrcels on approval from all parts of the country, but failed to return either goods or money. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Matters, Devon- port. DURHAM. 19.— Sunderland ( Borough). — For stealing £ 35, 25th ult.— THOMAS WILLIAM DAVISON, age 21, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight build, com- plexion sallow, hair black, slight dark moustache, long neck and very prominent gullet, short- sighted, stoops; dress, black serge jacket and vest, light grey trousers, grey tweed cap. A clerk ; native of Sunderland. May endeavour to go to America. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Huntley, Sunder- land. ESSEX. 20.— Brentwood ( County).— Escaped from the custody of the police, 10th inst., charged with larceny— JAMES BAKER, age about 55, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair and side whiskers dark, stoops; dress, dirty dark brown jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, round black hard felt hat, black- and- white scarf. A farm labourer. Information to Supt. Allen, Brentwood. I m JKJBt.- 21.— Southend- On- Sea ( County). — For stealing, on 26th ult., at Canvey Island, a cask con- taining 9 gallons of beer— GEORGE COOK, alias BILL HYMAS, JOHN HUME, and CAPTAIN, age about 38, height 5 ft. 9 in., comp'exion dark, hair, whiskers, and moustache daik brown, dirty appearance; dross, dirty light twill jacket, cord vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, heavy lace boots. A labourer; supposed native of Suffolk. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Hawtree, Southend- on- Sea. GLAMORGANSHIRE 22. — Cardiff ( Borough). — For stealing £ 7 from a till on 20th ult. — CORNELIUS BRIAN, late of Milton- street, Cardiff, age 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion dark, oval face, rather large mouth, bair dark brown, small dark moustache, eyes brown, scar top of head and left thigh, ring on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fingers, blue dot ba. k of left band, ring on front of right foreaim, 3 blue dota front of left forearm. A labourer. May bo found in company of prostitutes, and frequents " free and ea « ys " at public- houses. Warrant issued. 23.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For stealing 1 lady' » silver geneva watch, No. 98398; 1 silver albert; and 13s. from his lodgings— ERNEST WALTER HAINES, age 25. height 5 ft. G| in., complexion sallow, oval face, hair dark brown, small brown moustache, small blue eyes ( weak), scar top of fore- head, faint scar centre ditto, and left cheek, blue dot between loft thumb ard forefinger; dress, black coat and vest, striped trousers, dark cap. HAMPSHIRE. 24. — Fareham ( County). — For embezzling £ 15 19s 4d — ARTHUR HENRY WOOD, late pooi- rate collector for Havaut Union, age 36 height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes groy ; dress ( usually), light check suit, black folt hat, brown leather boots, or may be wearing knicker- bockers and stockings. A native of Havant. Ab- sconded 17th ult. May seek employment as clerk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brewer, Fareham. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough). — For stealing sheets, & c. ( recovered), from furnished lodgings— WILLIAM LEICESTER, alias IVORY, ago about 35, height 5 ft., complexion and moustache dark; dress, brown coat, corduroy trousers, black hard felt hat; appearance of a navvy. Supposed native of Fulham. May be found working at docks, or tramping the country.— ELIZABETH WARREN, alias IVORY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., stout, build, complexion and hair ( wavy) dark, eyes dark brown, upper front teeth deficient; wearing brown ulster, brown bonnet or black straw nail > r hat. Information to the Ctiief Constable, Portsmouth. 26.— Southampton ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail, charged with larceny VICTOR OHLY, alias RITCHIE, ALBERTS, and BENSON, age 47, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair light, moustache and tuft on chin, eyes blue, large indented scar on left check ( see Case No. 18, 31st ult.) LANCASHIRE. 29.— Bolton ( Oounty).— For stealing colliers' picks ( recovered)— A MAN, age 35, height 5 ft 4 or 5 in., dark moustache ; dre « s, black coat and vest, cap, and wearing clogs. Has lived at West- houghton, Daubhill, Little Hulton, Haydock, and Skelmersdale. Information to Supt. Leeming, Bolton. 30.— Church ( County).— For aiding and abetting gamiDg— MOSES CLAYTON, alias BALAPER age 34, height abont 5 ft. 8 in., strong build, complexion fresh, very red neck, hair brown, eyes bine, cut scar right of chin, brown mark right arm and back of hand; dress, old dark tweed coat, dirty moleskin trousers, cap, heavy shoes ( nearly new). A labourer.— GEORGE SMITHSON, age 55, com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, cross, flags, mermaid right forearm, sword, anchor, and " 1861 " left forearm, coal marks on hand and arm, lame, and stoops when walking ; of drnnken appearance ; dress, brown coat, dark tweed trousers, and shoes. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Campbell, Church, near Acorington. NORTHUMBERLAND. 31.— Alnwick ( Oounty).— For stealing a silver watch ( recovered) — JOHN CAMPBELL, alias ALEXANDER CAMERON, and JOHN BLAIR, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, ( sunburnt), hair dark brown, moustache light, prominent nose, tattooed flags and " A. C." on left forearm, 4 dots between left thumb and forefinger, indistinct anchor right forearm, 2 dots between right thumb and forefinger; dress, light grey jacket suit, red shirt, daik tie, grey cap, nearly new lace boots. A notorious travelling thief. Supposed native of Aberdeen. Previously convicted of larceny and housebreaking at Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, Alnwick, and Newcastle- on- Tyne. Left Alnwick, 8th inst., going south. Warrant issued. Informb tion to Capt. Terry, Chief Constable, Morpeth; or Supt. Rutherford, Alnwick. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 32 — Nottingham ( Borough).— For failing to report — Supervisee PERCY JOHN THURL- BOROUGH, Office No. 47664, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes brown, bracelet, 6 red and 2 blue dots back of lelt wrist, man's head front of left forearm. Sen- tenced at Nottingham Sessions, 11th October, 1894, to 4 months hard labour and 1 year police super- vision for larceny. 832. Information to the Chief Constable, Nottingham. SHROPSHIRE. 33.— Whitchurch ( County).— For burglary, 6th inst., and stealing about £ 9 10s., including about 80 threepenny- pieces— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and thick stubby moustache dark brown; dress, dark cloth coat and vest, blue or green colour cord trousers, black hard felt hat, strong lace boots, 2 rows of nails round outside, several missing: from too of left boot. Is supposed to be THOS. BOND, alias JOHN WRIGHT, see Case No. I. Information to Supt. Edwards, Whitchurch.
