Hopkins, Durslcy. HERTFORDSHIRE. 19.— Bishop's Stortford ( County). — For absconding from the Bishop's Stortford Union with clothes— SAMUEL PRIOR, age 67 ( looksyounger), height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair and eyes grey, scar both sides uf upper lip ; dress, cord suit, smock frock, soft felt hat, lace boots, all stamped " Bishop's Stortford Union." A labourer ; native of Great Hallingbury, Essex. May be found in the neighbourhood of Walthamstow, Cheshunt, or Tottenham. Warrant issued. Information to Sapt. Tripp, Bishop's Stortford. LANARKSHIRE. 20— Hamilton ( Burgh).— For stealing, between 1st ult. and 12th inst.— A woman's straw bonnet, trimmed with black velvet, black lace, and yellow flower; a woman's black cloth cape, three- quarter length, trimmed with braid round neck; an old black silk skirt with flounce near bottom; a pair of woman's side- spring boots ( nearly new), black fronts, size 5 ; and a lady's black twill umbrella, round black handle with clear knob on end— A woman, who gave the name of MRS. SMITH, but some times gave the names of SPEIRS and STEWART, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft., complexion pale, eyes dark, spoke with Dundee accent. Carried a male child about 3 months old, which she was nursing on the breast. She called upon several clergymen, to whom she represented that she had come from Broughty Ferry or Innerlecken, mentioning the names of several ministers at both places, and by her very plausible manner obtained assistance with- out actually asking for it. Was accompanied by two men, who stated they were painters in search of employment:— 1st, age about 43, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark, moustache brown, thin features, spoke with Scotch accent; dress, black corded coat and vest, dark striped tweed trousers, wincey shirt, white front, and scarf with pin, black felt hat, wore a white overall jacket under coat; 2nd, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair dark auburn, heavy reddish moustache, spoke with English accent; dress, dark corded coat and vest, corduroy trousers ( same as worn by railway porters), high- crowned brown felt hat with dent in side. Both men did some work as ticket writers, and sold the tickets for hanging up in public houses and other business places. It is requested that charitably disposed persons and clergymen be warned against the woman, who is apparently an accomplished impostor. Information to Chief Constable Miller, Hamilton. LANCASHIRE. 21.— Chorley ( County). — For stealing, 15th inst., £ 15— A MAN, age about 21, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved, eyes dark, rather large mouth; dress, black suit, trousers very wide, vest cut low, black Chesterfield overcoat, black low - crown hat, light blue tie, theatrical appearance. May have in his possession a key of a safe, about 2i in. long. A clothier's assistant or tailor. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. 22. — Liverpool ( City).— For stealing a child ( John Fairclough, age 11 months, complexion pale, long light hair, eyes blue, three teeth, one at top and two at bottom ; dressed in red knitted jacket, white pianofore, imitation diaper, red flannelette frock, linsey striped petticoat, red flannel petticoat, strip flannelette shirt, pink knitted stockings, red woollen Tam- o'- Shanter cap, patent leather slippers — A WOMAN, age about 22, tall and slight, hair very light, rather large front teeth inclined to cross each other ; dress, light grey shawl, clean white apron, no hat. Enquiries requested at workhouses and common lodging houses. Information to the Assistant Head Constable, Detective Department, Liverpool. 23. — Manchester ( City). — For failing to report — Supervisee JOB CHEESEBURT, alias JOB CHEESEBOROUGH, Office No. 43701, age 38, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair black { turning grey\ eye grey ( blind in left), scar centre of forehead, left eyebrow, bridge of no- e, back of head, right buttock, knee, outside elbow, mole on muscle of right arm, scar on left buttock and shin. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 23rd November, 1888, to 5 years penal servitude and 3 years police supervision for larceny. Liberated 17th September, 1892. I O 610. Supervisee MART SCULLY, alias MARY DAWSON, and MARY YOUNG, Office No. 45474, age 31, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes brown, scar inside right forearm, red birthmark under left ear, T. F. on upper left arm, scar over left eyebrow, above wrist, and on nose. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 28th May, 1888, to 5 years penal servitude and 7 years police super- vision for larceny. Supervisee CHARLES JONES, alias JOHN THOMAS JENKINS, Office No. 43780, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar both sides of forehead, mole under left breast, birthmark right of back, scar under right arm, blue mark outside left forearm. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 8th October, 1891, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for housebreaking. 6225. Supervisee HENRY O'NEILL, Office No. 44659, age 43, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey, scar each side of forehead, and each eyebrow, blind right eye, scar back of head, outside left wrist, right hand been broken, round- shouldered. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 21st April, 1892, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for fraud. 9517. Supervisee WILLIAM COLLIER, alias WIL- LIAM COOPER, Office No. 40957, age 31, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes hazel, partly bald, scar centre and right of forehead, outside corner of left eye, left and back of neck, inside left forearm, 2nd right finger, and inside left wrist, child inside left arm. Sentenced at Man- chester Sessions, 12th June, 1890, to 8 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for stealing cloth. 700. Supervisee JOSEPH BAILEY, Office No. 45337, age 23, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, 2 moles on neck, tree in pot inside right forearm, bird outside left forearm, dot base of left thumb, and mole back of neck. Sentenced at Preaton Sessions, 5th April, 1893, to 6 months hard labour and 2 years police supervision for larceny. 3910- 21. Sentenced at Salford Sessions, 4th July, 1892, to 9 months hard labour and 3 years po. ice supervi- sion for shopbreaking. 8254. 2 4.— Manchester( City).— For failing to report — Supervisee CHARLES BARRY, Office No. 42388, age 44, height 5 ft. 3^ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes brown, scar outside right ankle ( burn), 2 on left knee, 1 inside left thumb, left of forehead, and outside corner of right eye, blue mark under each eyebrow. Sentenced at Manchester, 16th April, 1891, to 9 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for larceny. Supervisee JAMES DAY, alias FREDERICK STANLEY, Office No. 41130, age 32, height 5 ft. 8| in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, miner's marks over right eyebrow, anchor outside left forearm, bracelet left wrist, scar irf right groin, and two boil scars on and one under right buttock. Sentenced at Preston, 25th November, 1891, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for larceny. Supervisee THOMAS WRIGHT, alias JOSEPH WILSON, and THOMAS DAWSON, Office No. 42366, age 46, height 4 ft. 3£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar centre of forehead, on left wrist, and over each eyebrow, E. and 2 dots on left forearm, brown flesh mark on muscle of left arm, mole on left shoulderblade. Sentenced at York, 8th July, 1890, to 18 months hard labour and 4 years police supervision for larceny. Supervisee ALICE BROOKS, alias ALICE WILKINSON, Office No. 41891, age 55, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair black ( turning grey), eyes blue, burn scar right arm. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 16th June, 1892, to 12 months hard labour and 1 year police supervision for larceny. License Holder RICHARD BOOTHMAN, age 33, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scars on head, left eyebrow, back of neck, right breast, each knee, right forearm, and left shin, blue dot between left thumb and forefinger, hairy chest, mole left groin. Sentenced at Man- chester Assizes, 11th May, 1889, to 5 years penal servitude for wounding. Licensed 11th February, 1893. Supervisee JANE SMITH, alias DENTON, ROLLINSON, McCLOUD, & c., Office No. 28647, age 37, height 5 ft., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar left shin, right arm, upper lip, chin and right side forehead. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 12th April, 1882, to 5 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision for larceny ( person). Licensed 29th August, 1885. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable of Manchester. 25.— Rochdale ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th inst.— A black cloth coat and vest; and a pair of mixture cloth trousers— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache ( clipped in centre) dark, bald on top of head; dress, brown overcoat, dark suit, trousers shiny down front, black billycock hat, black tie, light lace boots with pointed toes, worn at heels; carried a black patent leather Gladstone bag, about 18 in. long. This man, on 12th inst., pledged, in the name of Charles Walker, a black coat and vest, and mixture trousers, " J. Newbold, tailor, Union- street, Oldham," on coat tab, which are supposed to have been stolen. Information to Chief Constable Buck, Rochdale. 26.— Salford ( Borough).— For stealing a number of watches — HENRY LIEDKE, alias CASEY, age 36 or 37, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes grey, no whiskers; dresses respectably. A native of Switzerland. About 5 years ago he was in business, in the name of Casey, as a tobacconist and jeweller, in Booth- road, Cardiff, and prior to that in Harrow- road, London. Warrant issued. LEICESTERSHIRE. 27.— Melton Mowbray ( County).— For bur- glary, 20th ult., at Long Clawson — FRANK TAYLOR, age 19, height 5 ft. 2i in., complexion fair, hair light brown, carries his head slightly forward ; dress, brown tweed jacket and vest, black jacket over, light check trousers, black astrachan single peak cap, may be wearing black rib overcoat, " Silverwood " on tab. Native of Luton. Stays at common lodging houses. May seek employment as farm servant. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bott, Melton Mowbray. '} LINCOLNSHIRE. 28.— Spalding ( County). — For deserting his wife and family— URIAH PRATT, age 39, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, side- whiskers and moustache, scar centre of forehead; dress, brown overcoat, black cloth coat under. He occasionally sells oils for horses. Has lived at Greenwich and Deptford daring the last few years, selling artificial manure. Warrant issued. 29.— Spalding ( County). — For deserting his family— EDWARD HOOD, age 37, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, brown hair and whiskers, very thin, weak knees, slightly lame; dress, drab jacket, cord trousers. A bricklayer's labourer; native of Sutton. He sometimes hawks oranges at public houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jarvis, Spalding. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 30.— Newport ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 171 10s., 2nd inst.— WALTER HARRY GID- LEY LAKE, age 32, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair ( thin and wavy in front) and moustache light, slight side whiskers. Carried a brown portmanteau and a black bag. A clerk and cashier. Has been employed in newspaper offices for several years. Was employed on the " Echo " and " Army and Navy Gazette," London. Is fond of billiards. Enquiries are requested at newspaper and emi- gration offices. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, Newport. MS, alias WILLIAMSON, W1LKINS, WATSON, & c., age 25, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fair, hair sandy- brown, eyes grey, large roman nose, profusely tattooed on arms and hands ; dress, dark coat and vest, check tweed trousers, black hard felt hat. Supposed wanted at Aylesbury, Nottingham, and Winchester. 52.— St. Albans ( City).— Committed for trial for tendering counterfeit coin— JOSEPH ISAACS, age 33, height 5 ft. 4- i- in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes dark, rather prominent teeth; dress, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, grey Inverness overcoat and cap; shabby appoarance. A cigar maker, of Ratcliffe- higliway. Has been convicted of larceny and illegal pawning in the Metropolitan Police District. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. KENT. 53.— Folkestone ( Borough).— Committed for trial at next Quarter Sessions, 1st prox., for larceny ( person)— GEORGE WILSON, age 23, height 5 ft. 7^ in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes grey, horse's head tattooed left forearm. — THOMAS CONWAY, age 24, height 5 ft. 6| in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes bluo. Both privates of the 1st Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, stationed at Shorncliffe Camp. Information to Supt. Taylor, Folkestone. NORFOLK. 54.— Pulham Market ( County).— Committed for trial at Next Quarter Sessions, for obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— EDWARD HANDS, alias HAYS, age 39, looks older, height 5 ft. 81 in. without shoes, complexion fair, hair light brown, whiskers and moustache inclined to sandy, eyes blue, large wart on left ear; dress, short dark coat and vest with brown stripes, grey trousers with brown stripes, light cap, lace boots, all much worn and dirty. SUFFOLK. 55.— Ipswich ( Brouogh).— Remanded till 28th inst. for larceny — GEORGE SMITH, age 30, height 5 ft. in., weight about 9 stone, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, cut scar 2 inches above right ear, bare spot about 2 inches from the scar towards the temple, scar top of head, nearly bald, brown spot right hip, mole top right groin ; frowns when speaking and knits his eyebrows; dress, shabby dark coat, dark vest, brown stripe trousers, black hard felt hat. WORCESTERSHIRE. 56.— Evesham ( County).— Committed for trial at next Quarter Sessions, for fraud— WALTER GEORGE TREDWELL, age 52, height 5 ft. 8£ in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes brown, lost end of left thumb, B C. on right side, D. on left side. A fellmonger; native of Evesham. States he has been employed in London as a groom. Previously convicted of fraud at Worcestershire Quarter Sessions, October, 1876, and sentenced to 7 years penal servitude and 5 years police supervision. All the above articles are marked with a private mark of the owner, denoting their value with letters taken from the word " CAMBRIDGE." Supposed by TWO MEN: 1st, age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 in., very stout build, heavy black moustache; dress, blue melton overcoat and hard felt hat, carried a blackthorn walking stick. 2nd, age about 27, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, moustache ( thick and heavy) red, pockmarked; dress, dark coat, black hard felt hat.
