BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 12.— SlOUgh ( County).— For stealing, 6th inst. — A silver half- pint " Fives " challenge cup, egg- shape, upwards of 20 names engraved thereon, the last being " A. W. J. Talbot "— M. OSTROG, alias ORLOFF, and ASHLEY, age 60, height 5 ft. 10-£ in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache brown, turning grey, rather sunken cheeks; dress, black Inverness mackintosh, dark trousers, soft felt billycock or black hard felt hat. Has undergone several terms of penal servitude for larcenies from colleges, & c. Information to Supt. Sutton, Slough. DORSETSHIRE. 17. — Dorchester ( County). — For stealing 3 ferrets, a ferret bag, and other articles, 5th inst at Frampton — A MAN, age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion and hair dark, leans slightly forward in walking; dress, velveteen coat ( similar to gamekeeper's), supposed dark cord trousers, dark peak cap, military boots; on tramp; supposed to have beenin the Army. He wa s traced on 5th inst. to East Coker, where 2 of the ferrets were disposed of, and thence to Yeovil, where the other was offered for sale. He then had with him a cream- coloured dog. He left in direction of Mud- ford, inquiring way to Castle Cary. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. CUMBERLAND. 15.— Whitehaven ( County). — For stealing a silver lever watch, No. 62034, maker— John Bain, Maryport, silver curb pattern albert, each link Hall- marked, and a sixpence as pendant, attached ; and 6s. ll| d. in money— JOHN DODD, alias STEWART, age 28 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., stout build, complexion and hair dark, moustache light, eyes blue, deeply pockmarked ; dress, black coat, brown vest, white moleskin trousers, black- and- blue striped muffler, light brown single- peak cap, and clogs. DERBYSHIRE. 16.— Derby ( Borough).— For obtaining a cheque for £ 7 15s. 6d. by false pretences— JOHN KING ( supposed false), age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark overcoat, dark trousers, and black hard hat; the appearance of a farmer or cattle dealer. He called upon a hay dealer and ordered goods to the amount of £ 9 9s. 6d., tender- ing a cheque in payment for £ 17 5s. Od. on the Accrington Branch of the Union Bank of Manches- HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Bitterne ( County).— For stealing a mare and colt ( recovered)— JOHN LIGHT, age 30, height 5 ft. 7i in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache light brown or sandy, rather thin features, leans forward when walking; dress, short black jacket and vest, cord trousers, colored tie, brown cap, new lace boots ; wears spectacles. Native of Titchfield, Hants. Has been previously convicted of horse- stealing, and other offences. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Bitterne. 20.— Kingsclere ( County).— For stealing an old- fashioned silver open- face watch, dial repaired near figure VIII.— CHARLES FRANKLIN, alias SMITH, age about 28, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, arms tattooed; dress, dark clothes; respectable appearance. James, Kingsclere. 21.— Winchester ( City).— For embezzlement — GEORGE BUTTERY, age 2b, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, two small scars on left forefinger, 21 H 114 tattooed left arm; dress, brown tweed cloth jacket and vest, dark cloth trousers, nearly new, heavy lace boots. Supposed native of Sheffield. Has served in the King's Royal Rifles, and was transferred to the Reserve in January, 1891. He is accompanied by his wife and 2 children ( a boy, age 3, and a girl, 10 months) . Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Felton, Winchester. LANCASHIRE. 24.— Leigh ( County).— For stealing a gentle- man's keyless silver watch, No. 120211, white dial, with " H. Peak & Son, London," engraved thereon, and 19s. 10d.— PETER CULLEN, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair dark ( turn- ing grey) ; dress, dark clothing, felt hat. A tramp- ing shoemaker. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Higginbotham, Leigh. £ 1 REWARD. 25.— Old Swan ( County).— For stealing, 12th inst., at Tuebrook— 1 gold breast- pin, small diamond in centre; 1 gold oblong locket, Masonic emblem engraved thereon, " G" in centre, plate on other side for name ; 1 small gold fob chain, about 6 in, long; 1 topaz seal; 3 gold studs, coral tops, pearl in centre ; 2 ditto, opals in centre, gipsy setting; 1 large oval- shape silver locket, ornamented with leaves; 1 pair silver bracelets, fancy work round rim; 1 silver bracelet, ornamented with 3 imitation buttons and button- holes ; 1 gentleman's silver card case, square shape, supposed " W. R. M." on side; 1 enamelled scent bottle, about 8 in. long, blue and gold one side, supposed plain the other— A MAN ( who pledged two other breast- pins stolen from the house), age 25 to 30, complexion fresb, hair dark, no whiskers or moustache, eruption on face, high checkbones, stout build, very square shoulders, of soldierly appearance, speaks with cockney accent; dress dark suit, white collar and tie, black hard felt hat. The above reward will he paid by William Robert Miller, 33, Moscow Drive, West Derby, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the thief and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Bryning, Old Swan. 26.— PresCOt ( County). — For stealing a gold watch and chain, 11th nit., atMosley Hill— A MAN, age 49, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair light, whiskers and moustache; dress, dark grey suit, black felt hat with flat top; generally carries an umbrella. A clock cleaner and winder, and may seek similar employment. He pledged the property at Reading, 16th ult., in the name of James Murray, and was afterwards traced to London. Information to Supt. LINCOLNSHIRE. 48. — Horncastle ( County). — Committed for trial, at next Lincoln Assizes, for obtaining money by false pretences— PRE D OXLEY, age 43, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion sallow, hair light brown ( turning grey), short cut moustache eyes grey, tattooed cross- flags and cross ri^ ht arm, ring 1st and 2nd fingers right hand, anchor left arm, bracelet on - wrist, and RR back of left hand; dress, brown cloth coat, dark cloth vest, daik stripe trousers, black hard felt hat. Supposed a native of Leels, and to have been previously con- victed. Information to Supt. Costar, Horncastle. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 49.— Newport ( Borough).— Sentenced, 6th inst, to 6 months imprisonment for stealing a gold watch and £ 5 63. 6d. from a ship— THOMAS MASON, alias THOMPSON, MORRITZ, MORRISEY, MONTFORD, & c., a Norwegian, age 52, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers, and moustache brown, scar from burn between shoulder- blades, narrow white scar down centre of back, small scars under left breast, two on muscle left arm, anchor tattooed between thumb and finger left hand A notorious ship thief. Was sentenced at Thames Police Court, 4th April, 1880, to 6 months imprison ment for larceny from a ship, in name of BROWN, with 3 months to follow for frequenting; at Cardiff, 3rd August, 1881, to 2 months for frequenting, in name of EDWARD MORRISEY; at Liverpool, 20th April, 1882, to 3 months for stealing a watch and chain and £ 13, in name of HENDERSON; at Cardiff, 16th January, 1883, to 3 months for frequent ing; at Newport, 18th April, 1883, to 3 months for larceny, in name of GEORGE THOMPSON, 3 months to follow for frequenting; at Cardiff, 4th December, 18R3, to 3 months for being found in a ship's cabin for an unlawful purpose; at South Shields, 10th December, 1884, to 12 months, on three charges of larceny, followed by 6 months for assaulting police. Supposed subsequently convicted elsewhere. He is known to have had a wife living at West- green, Tottenham, in December, 1884, since which time they have lived together at Cardiff. In April, 1888, he married a young woman of Newport, at the Registry Office, Bristol, in the name of HARRY TALBOT, describing himself as a bachelor, and it is suspected this was a bigamous marriage. Found in his possession : a small silver geneva watch, No. 42039, brass albert chain attachtd, sup- posed stolen. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, Newport. NORFOLK. 50.— Thetford ( County). — Remanded, for larceny — GEORGE CLARKE, alias JAMES HENRY DURMOTT, and GEORGE BROWN, of Stratford, Essex, age 62, height 5 ft. 9^ in., com- plexion fresh, hair, whiskers, moustache, and eyes grey ; dress, light mixture brown tweed coat, dark cord vest and trousers, red- and- white scarf, black soft felt hat, lace boots. States he is a seaman. Information to Inspector Simpson, Thetford. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 51.— Kettering ( County).— Remanded till 21st inst., for obtaining £ 5 by means of a worthless cheque on Messrs. Slocock, Matthews and Southby's Bank, Newbury- CHARLES EDWIN, alias S. COTTON, and JOSEPH HARRINGTON, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey, 5 dots, small cross and ring on left arm ; dress, Chesterfield overcoat ( silk lining, velvet collar), blue serge coat and vest, grey check trousers, white collar, blue- and- red tie, low black hard felt hat, lace boots; wears a ring on little finger left hand; of gentlemanly appearance. States he is a native of Montreal, and that he has been in England about 8 months, following race meetings. Information to Supt. Hensher, Kettering. A tramping tailor. Had in his possession a brown snnff colour beaver cloth double- breasted overcoat, bone buttons, velvet collar, usual pockets, a black- and- grey plaid cloth donble- breasted jacket, bone buttons, usual pockets, and an old brown soft felt hat. Entrance was effected by a ladder being placed against the portico and getting in at the bedroom window, which was left unfastened. Tbe thieves left behind them a new putty knife with G. M. S. D./ 1888 stamped on blade. The following men are suspected :— 1st. About 22 years of age, 5 ft. 7 or 8 in. high, fair complexion, slight moustache, no whiskers, thin build ; dressed in brown overcoat, b'. ue trousers, and brown hard hat. 2nd. Age about 40 to 45 years, 5 ft. 4 or 5 in high, whiskers and moustache dark brown, turning grey, medium build; dressed in black overcoat and black hard hat. 3rd. About 25 years of age, 5 ft. 6 or 7 in. high, thin build, dark moustache; dressed in black over- coat, and black hard hat. 4th. About 32 years of age, stout build, clean shaven, dark complexion ; black overcoat, and black hard hat. Information to Head Constable Tewsley, Reading, by whom the above reward will be [ paid for the apprehension and conviction of the thief or thieves and recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Information to Head Constable Tewsley, Reading. £ 20 REWARD. 56.— Reading ( Borough).— 8th inst., by house- breaking— 1 dozen silver table spoons, dozen silver dessert spoons, 1 dozen silver table forks, dozen silver forks ( dessert size), 2 or 3 silver gravy spoons, 4 silver salt spoons, and 4 silver sauce ladles, all marked " S." in old English; 2 silver cruet frames to hold 3 bottles each, trefoil shape, with handle at one end ; 1 bottle stand bracelet with diamond of 3 to 3 j carats in centre no marks or stamps inside, Indian make, value about £ 70; a Russian leather silver- mounted purse con- taining a cheque for £ 5, dated 22nd September, 1892, on " Devon and Cornwall Bank, drawn by Edward F.
