No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not ms^ stucry to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of j^ rsons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been aauwi, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of thia mature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this ^ formation the mistake cannot be rectified. Loughtee, parish of Annageliffe, committed a rape on one Anne Rogers :— Has fresh cut- nfarks or scratches on face, believed left side, received in the struggle, large upper Hp, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair; wore a soft black hat; black heavy coat, light tweed trowsers; is a labourer. Killeshandra, 11th Jan. 1898, ( 20286 c.— 8878.) description of WILLIAM HEWITT, Junior ( Mother's surname M'Meikle), native of Drum- connick, Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 13th December, 1892, in the barony of Upper Loughtee, parish of Urney, stabbed one Moses Rourke with a penknife, and being bound by recognizance to appear at Cavan Petty Sessions on 19th Decem- ber, 1892, has absconded from his bail:— Prominent teeth, square shoulders, active appearance; dark eyes, slightly hooked nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, 6 feet 1 inch high, about 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a black bard hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Description of CHARLES O'HALLORAN, sup- posed native of county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 29th April, 1893, in the barony of Tulla Upper, parish of Tomgraney, stolen from the dwelling- house of Catherine Murphy, Tomgraney:— A gold cross, about 2 inches long; a gold ring, set in ruby stones ; a heart - shaped medallion, and some white handkerchiefs, marked H. Hogan ; all value for about £ 5 :— Good- looking, handsome face, speaks with an English accent; long nose, fair Complexion, round face, 5 feet 6. inches high, about 20 years of age, rather fair hair; wore a light- coloured peak cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; smart address; carries a brown walking stick. Description of a WOMAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th April, 1893, in the barony of Bunratty Lower, parish of Bunratty, abandoned a male child, aged about 6 months, whereby the life of said child was endangered:— Very freckled face ; blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 33 years of age, red hair; wore an old red dress, old gray shawl, no boots; is a tramp. GalWay. 5( 1 . tr Descriptions of PATRICK FOLON and MICHAEL FLAHERTY, natives of Teeraoea, Car- raroe, who stand charged with having, on the ,30th July, 1893, in tfie barony of Moycullen, parish of Kil- lanin, seriously assaulted Peter Mealia, of Teeranea, Gorumna Island, thereby placing his life in danger. 1. Broad mouth, thick lips, no beard, . dark eyes, long nose, pale complexion, broad full face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a flannel suit ( bawneens) ; is' a small farmer and fisher man. 2. Active appearance, slight beard, never shaved, gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet. 1 inch high, about 23 years of age, fair hair; wore - a flannel suit ( bawneens); ' is a small farmer and fisherman. Description of MICHAEL GEOGHEGAN ( mother's surname Geoghegan), native of Oughterard, who stands charged with having, between the 15th September, 1892, and the 29th June, 1893, in the barony of Moycullen, parish of Kilcummin, embezzled several moneys, the property of the Oughterard Board of Guardians :— Speaks hurriedly, smooth shaved, with slight fair moustache, blue eyes, ordinary nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; is a butcher and poor rate collector. Description of a MAN, name and native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd August, 1893, at Leixlip, in the barony of North Salt, parish of Leixlip, stolen a cow, the property of George Sodeu, which has since been recovered :— Blue or gray eyes, straight nose, pale complexion, medium make, 6 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair, turning gray, face clean shaved ; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest; looks like a butler. Description of JOHN JOSEPH BROOKES, alias GEORGE LESTON, native of Newtownbarry, who stands charged with having, on the 13th July, 1893, in the barony of Narragh and Reban West, parish of St Michael's, stolen an ass and cart, the property of one George Bailey, of Best. The ass and cart has been discovered and restored to owner :— Dark complexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair, small black side whiskers and moustache, chin shaved; wore a brown plaid tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest 5 is a tramp labourer. Description of TWO TRAMPS, names and residences unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 6th day of June, 1893, in the barony of Offaly East, parish of Walterstown, robbed one Martin Byrne of £ 9 15j. 1. Dark complexion, stout make, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, dark hair, short black beard} wore a dark cap, glazed peak, gray coat and trowsers; is a tramp- 2. Sandy complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy hair, bow lagged; wore a soft hat, dark short coat, moleskin trowsers; is a tramp. kildare, 8th June, 1893. King's Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 1st August, 1893, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County :— JOHN BYRNE, No. 1,456,16years of age, 4 feet 8 inches high, medium make, fresh complexion, sandy hair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, regular mouth, oval visage ; formerly belonged to Dublin ; parents reside at 72, Patrick- street, Dublin; small burn- mark on right side of upper lip. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and vest, dark gray tweed tunic, Glengarry cap, Blucher boots, No. 1,456. He is likely to go to Dublin. The Manager, of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justicc, on remand^ nd will reward the person' who may capture him with £ 1. ( 568 H. C.) Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 1st August, 1893, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County :— JAMES CARTY, No. 1,615, 16 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, medium make, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, ordinary nose, regular month, oval visage; formerly belonged to Dublin; mother resides at 11, Ash- street, Dublin. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of :— Moleskin vest,, dark gray tweed tunic, trowsers uncertain ( had taken off Reformatory trow- sers), Glengarry cap, Blucher boots, No. 1,615. He is likely to go to Dublin. Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 24 th July, 1893, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County :— JOHN MURRAY, No. 1,538, 16 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, medium make, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, regular mouth, oval visage ; formerly belonged to 5 Gloucester- place, North, Dublin; parents reside at same place; stepfather, Joseph Carpenter; abscess mark on right arm. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and vest, dark tweed tunic, Glengarry cap, Blucher boots, No. 1,538. May hire for a time with a farmer, but is likel eventually to go to Dublin. Description of GEORGE KIRWAN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 1st of July, 1893, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, threatened to shoot Jeremiah Noonan : Gfay or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age; dark hair turning gray ; deficient the third finger of the right hand.; wore a dark tweed coat and vest. Is usually employed in caring evicted tenants' farms ; is an Army Pensioner and Caretaker. A warrant for his arrest has been issued. 30th Jay, 1983. ( 98360 c.— 86735. Longford. Description of JOSEPH BURNS, native of Rathkeal, county Limerick, and a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the morning of the 31st July, 1893, in the barony of Shrule, parish of Noughavale, maliciously burned five cocks of hay, the property of Thomas Dowdall, Ballymahon, value for about £ 8, and may have com- mitted Offences elsewhere:— 1. Tender gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 55 years of age, dark hair turning gray; low jerry hat, dark colour, and dark tweed coat; is a tramp tailor. He is now on remand in Carrick- on- Shannon. 2. Dark complexion, medium make, 30 years of age, dark hair ; ia a tramp. No. 1 states this man was in his company on night of 30th inst., and is suspected of having assisted in the burning, and has absconded. Ballymahon, 31st July, 1893. ( 23881 15561.)] Londonderry JAMES M'PEAKE ( serious assault), described in issue of 7th April, not arrested. ( 19864 C.— 8141). Louth. Description of A. J. RYAN ( name supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1893, in the barony of Drogheda, parish of St. Peter's, obtained food and lodging, value £ 1 13*. 8d., from Catherine Durnen, Drogheda, by fraud and false pretences:— Good looking, worfe dark ' moustache, shaved face, spoke with English accent, full brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, ftill face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 35 year's of age, black hair; wore a brown hat, dark coat, dkrk trowsers, and dark vest. He is aceompapied by a man and two women. They have been advertising a Gladstone bag and dresses in the Dublin papers for sale, and obtained money from several persons by that meanp under false pretences. Their descriptions are annexed. Warrant for A. J. Ryan's arrest is jn the hands of ftie District Inspector at Drogheda. Description of Mr. RYAN — Very delicate looking, spoke with an English accent, sallow complexion, thin face, slight niake, 5 feet 10' inches high, about , i0 years of age, black hair; wore a dark round hat and dark coat. Description of Mrs. RYAN:— Very stout, good1 looking, spoke with an English accent, full brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 4 inches Ktgh, abo* t 28 years of age, brown hair ; w6re a light tweed dress. Description of Mrs. RYAN :— Very slight delicate appearance, spoke with an English accent, fair com- plexion, thin face, very slight make, 5 feet 1 inch high, about 27 years of age, fair hair ; wore a striped blue dress. It is probable these people may be committing: similar offences elsewhere. Drogheda, 29th July, 1893. ( 23850 c 15509.) meath. Description of JOHN LARISSY ( mother's surname Mary Bennet), native of Athboy, who stands charged with having, on the 10th day of July, 1893, in the barony of Lune, parish of Athboy, embezzled the sum of £ 1 15s. 6d. from Edward Russell, baker, of Athboy, by whom he was employed as driver of bread cart:— Smart active appearance; dark eyes, regular' nose, dark complexion, regular face, stout make,- 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair y wore a dark frock coat, dark tweed trowsers, and vest; is a bread cart- driver. Description of GERALD FITZGERALD, alia* WILLIAM ARMIT, native of county Meath, who stands charged on remand with having, on the 14tb June, 1893, in tbe barony of Dunboyne, parish or Dunboyne, fraudulently endeavoured to obtain goods and money on a forged cheque, drawn in the name of v Cox & Co., Army Bankers, Charing- cross, London":— Gentlemanly appearance, bald on top of head; gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, oval face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 46 years of age, gray hair; wore a dark hard hat, dark coat, tweed trowsers,. and dark vest. This man falsely represented himself as a Sergeant- Major of Royal Engineers, quartered at Chatham, and may have committed similar offences- elsewhere. Dunshaughlin, 18th June, 1893. Queen's, Description of JAMES BYRNE ( Mother's sur- name Lynch), native of Stradbally, who stands charged1 with having, in the month of February, 1893, at Strad- bally, in the barony of Stradbally, parish of Strad- bally Hall, feloniously stolen a coachman's livery bo* coat and footman's livery coat, and being bound by recognizance to stand his trial at Maryborough Quarter Sessions on 13th April, 1893, has absconded from his- bails:— No teeth in front of mouth, shaves all his face; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40" years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed cap, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a stable boy. Description of THOMAS MOORE, native ot Dublin, who stands charged with having, oh the 14tb July, 1893, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Modreeny, embezzled the sum of £ 7 from his employer, Goodhand Pattison :— Old scar on finger of right hand, good looking, brown eyes, thin nose, sallow complexion, thin face, alight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, black hair; wore a one- peaked capf black coat, brown trowsers with a light stripe; is a servant, was 9 months in army. Warrant in hands of Sergeant, at Cloughjordan. Roscrea, 16th July, 1893. ( 23582 c.—. 15038). Description of JOHN MALOUGHNEY, native of Curreeney, who stands charged with having, on the night of 1st June, 1893, in the barony of ' Upper Ormond, parish of Annaghmeadle, attempted to commit a rape on Norah Butler, aged about 35 years:— High- cheek bones,- prominent chin, jjray or blue eyes, long thin nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 80 years of age, dark hair; wore a brown tweed cap, brown tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and tweed vest; is a servant boy. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Templederry. Templemore, 10th June, 1893. ( 22940 c.— 13940.) THE POUCE OAZETTK, OB HUE- AHD- CRY, AUGUST 8, 1893, Description of JOHN O'HARA, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of July, 1893, at Ballintrain, in the barony of East Omagh, parish of Termonmagurk, seriously assaulted Francis Donnelly, by striking him with a spade on the tJp of the head, thereby endangering his life:— Gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 or 35 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray frock coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a labourer and rag dealer. Description of JOHN M'DERMOTT, alias GATELY, native of Creggs, county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 8th day of April, 1893, in the barony of Farbill, parish of Killucan, obtained the sum of six pounds sterling from Cornelius Hannan, Esq., J. P., by false pretences ; and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued :— Walks with a heavy long step, careworn appearance, brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, pale complexion, round lace, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, gray hair; was a commercial traveller and shop- keeper. Description of JAMES COFFEY, native of Knockeraville, connty Westmeath, who stands charged with having, on the night of 19th or morning of 20th April, 1893, in the barony of Moyashel and Maghera- dermon, parish of Dysart, stolen 3 sheep and 3 lambs:— Greatly bow- legged, result of being broken when training horses; gray or blue eyes, regular nose rather sharp, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, about 5 feet 5 inches high, between 26 and 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tight coat, tight fitting trowsers, black woollen cardigan jacket under his coat, heavy brass watch chain, will probably be found about horse training stables ; is a horse trainer and groom. Warrant for his arrest has been issued and is in the hands of the District Inspector, Mullingar. Mullingar, 5th May, 1983. ( 2231 c— 12891.) Wicklow. Description cf the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 7th June, 1893, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, at county Wicklow:— RICHARD CORBALLY, 2,484, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches or 5 feet 6 inches high, very stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval or round visage; • formerly belonged to Firhouse, county Dublin; mother resides at Roundtown. The School Dress, all with the Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and corduroy jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), and strong nailed boots, No. 2,484. It appears that the boy got a change of clothes at Firhouse, and he is now dressed in a long dark coat, dark trowsers, and old felt hat. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Jnstice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 8th June, 1893. Description of PATRICK DALY, who was con- victed of larceny at Monaghan Assizes, on 9th March, 1889, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude^ and who is now wanted on Warrant in consequent of the licence granted to him on 24th November, 1892, far the unexpired term of said sentence having been revoked :— He is 51 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, fresh complexion, gray eyes, cut mark on front of forehead, left side, lost one front tooth, upper jawj kick mark on left shin, is a labourer, and was born at Tipperary. He was last heard of at Buttevant, county Cork. / Warrant in the hands of Chief Inspector Cooper, \ D. M. Police. Detective Department, 4th Aug., 1893. ( 569 H. C.) Particulars relative to convict THOMAS c. 20, convicted at Enniskillen, county Fermanagh, at Quarter Sessions, on 18th November, 1885, for larceiiy — two cases— and previous conviction, and sentenced to 10 j ears' penal servitude :— 50 years of age, single, is a stonecutter, born in Drumcoolan, Enniskillen, resided before conviction in Enniskillen where his friends reside; dark brown hair turning gray, brown eyes, black eyebrows turning gray, large nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 6 feet 11J inches high ; right leg ulcerated at shin, bald on top of head. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence, 23rd May, 1893. He recently left his residence, 14, Bride- street, Dublin, without notifying to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt witk under 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 8th June, 1893. ( 559 H. C.) Particulars relative to convict MICHAEL M'GOLDRICK, c 21, convicted at Enniskillen, county Fermanagh, at Quarter Sessions, on 19th November, 1885, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to ten years' penal servitude:— 60 years of age on conviction, married, is a dealer; born at Enniskillen ; resided before conviction at Enniskillen, where his friends reside; dark brown bur, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high; ruptured left side, wears a truss, eut- scar on bridge of nose and on upper lip. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, 19th May, 1893, and stated he was going to Sligo. He was arrested on same date at Athlone on a charge of drunkenness, and discharged on condition of at once leaving the town. He has not since reported himself, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ~ In the event of bis arrest he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 31st May, 1893. C,) Particulars relative to English Convict MICHAEL DOODY, No. 294, convicted at Malta, at a Court Martial, on 10th May, 1887, for an attempt to commit sodomy, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, is a soldier; dark brown hair, gray eyes, 5 feet 7 inches high; two scars on back of head, mark on top of nose, right side, scar on cheek and on first finger, also on knuckle of second finger and on buttock; wore all his beard, which may now be shaved off. This man was released on licence from Portsmouth Prison, 29th October, 1892. He left his residence, 36, Nicholas- street, Dublin, without reporting to police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 18th May, 1893 ( 555 H. c.) Description of JOSEPH M'DONNELL, who was convicted of rape, at the Mayo Assizes, on 10th of July, 1889, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and who is now wanted on Warrant, in consequence of the licence granted to him on 1st April, 1893, for the unexpired term of said sentence having been revoked:— He is 26 years old, 5 feet 6£ inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose and mouth, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make; cut on forehead and on right side of top of head, mole and scar on chin, large scar on right wrist, flesh- mark on left wrist; is a blacksmith, and a native of Claremorris, county Mayo. Wanted on- Warrant, charged with having, on 3rd June, deserted his wife and 3 children, whereby they have become chargeable to the poor law union oi Chelmsford:— GEORGE THOMAS SMITH, a dis- charged $ o\ dier, native of Writtle, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fresh complexion", light brown hair, blue eyes, tattooed on chest two men boxing, inside one arm figure of woman, on the other arm trees, bracelets tattooed round both wrists, rings tattooed round fingers; wears Indian gold rings on little finger, left hand. Smith ie well knowh at Welshpool, and was recruting sergeant to the Montgomeryshire militia ; he formerly belonged to the 44th and 24th regiments. Chelmsford, 21st July, 1893. ( 565 H. C.) Stirlingshire. Wanted for housebreaking, in Stirling Burgh, on the 17th instant:— A MAN about 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches in height, fresh complexion, full round face, dark hair, dark moustache, otherwise shaved; stout made; dressed in a black cord coat, dark vest and trowsers, light maffler, and black felt hat. The above- described broke into a villa abont 10.15 p. m. on the above date, in company with another man who is in custody, by inserting a knife between the sashes of the window, removing the snib, raising the lower sash, and entering thereby. Police Officers are requested to make search and inquiry at' all likely places with the view to the apprehension of the above- described ( who can be identified), and if found, to wire the Chief Constable. Description of a colt, the property of William M'Knight, which was stolen from the lands of Doon South, parish of Doon, barony of Coonagh, on the night of 9th July, 1898:— A bay colt, a year and a half old, the bind legs white up to the fetlock, a white star on forehead, and a white spot on nose ; value for £ 8. Description of six sheep, the property of William Cole Baker, Esq., which were stolen from the lands of Ballydanid, parish of Templeniery, barony of Clan- william, on 16th or 17th days of July, .1893 :— Either Shropshires or a cross between Shropshires and white- faced sheep; all have coloured faces with more or less of a tinge of black in them. If pure breds they will have a V- shaped notch cut out of front of ear; if half- breds top of ear is cut off leaving a peak in centre; if three- quarter breds top of ear also cut off like a swallow taiL The ewes are cut^ on left and wethers on right ear.
