YORKSHIRE ( EAST RIDING). 27.— Great Driffield ( County).— For embezzle- ment— DAVID SHEARMAN, a clothier's assistant, late of Hutton, Cranswick, age about 23, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache brown, small side whiskers, sunken eyes; dress, black coat and vest, light tweed trousers, check woollen cap or black felt hat. A native of Holder- iess. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Farrah, Great Driffield. 28.— Beverley ( Borough).— For stealing a drab covert or dust coat, and also for obtaining food, lodgings, & c., by false pretences— A MAN, who gave the names of " GREEN," " MORLEY," & c., • age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, full face, moustache light; • dress, dark suit, white collar turned down at corners, white tie, black felt hat, may wear the stolen over- coat. Carried a brown paper parcel. This man calls at good hotels and asks for letters • which he says he expected; states he is a commercial traveller, and after obtaining food, & c., absconds without paying his account. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Knight, Beverley. 29.— Hull ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 4 8s. by false pretences— WILLIAM SCHMIDT, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair and large moustache dark ( turning grey), large nose; dress, dark jackot suit, light peak cap or black hard felt hat. Carries a brown leather case containing samples of picture frames. He is well known at Goole, Howden, and neighbourhood. Warrant issued. 30.— Hull ( Borough). — For bigamy — JOHN WILLIAM STIRLING, alias FREDERICK ROBERT HARDY, age 24, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar at top of nose between the eyes ; of smart appearance; dress, dark jacket suit. He has been in the employ of the Refuge and Prudential Insurance Companies, and may seek similar employment, or as a traveller for the sale of rubber stamps. . Warrant issued. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 31.— Leeds ( County).— For forgery on the Leeds and Yorkshire Penny Branch Bank, at Rawdon, to a large amount— THOMAS HUSTLER, a clerk, age 34, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown ; dress, dark mixture slack back coat, trousers and vest, black tie, hard felt hat. Information to Supt. Stansfield, County Buildings, Leeds. 32.— Bradford ( Borough).— For embezzlement GEORGE HOLROYD, age 44, height about 5' ffc. 8 in., stiff build, square shoulders, complexion sallow, hair ( inclined to curl), heavy moustache, whiskers and beard, black( may now be clean shaved), - res ( full, round) dark, walks erect; dress, blue serge slack- back jacket and vest, narrow stripe black- and- grey mixture trousers, square top billy- cock bat, lace boots. Was clerk to the Bradford Discharged Prisoners Aid Society; formerly band - sergeant in the 52nd Regiment, and afterwards a warder in the Convict Prison service at Portsmouth, Portland, Dartmoor, and other places. Absconded 19th ult. Had a revolver in his possession. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Bradford. 33. — Halifax ( Borough). — For embezzling £ 38 16s.— LEYLAND DUNCAN, age about 45, height 5 ft, 8 or 9 in., thin dark hair, long heavy black moustache ; may be wearing a pair of dark spectacles; generally wears short dark overcoat and brown billycock hat. Gentlemanly appearance. Fond of the company of loose women. A wine and epirit merchant's traveller. Warrant issued. 34.— Halifax ( Borough).— For causing grievous bodily harm to a police constable, 20th ult.— JOHN SHANLEY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stiff build, complexion fresh, round features, hair dark brown, beard and moustache inclined to ginger, small patch of grey hair on side of head, walks with elastic step; dress, brown plaid coat, with laps, greenish plaid vest, cord trousers, black billycock hat, blucher boots. A stonemason or waller, and is a member of the Masons' Union, where he may apply for relief. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Pole, Halifax. RAILWAYS. 35. — Midland Railway.— For embezzling £ 2 14s. 8d., the moneys of the Midland Railway Company— WILLIAM SCRIVEN, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., weight about 10| stones, complexion fresh, hair light, very slight moustache. A native of Moreton- in- the- Marsh. Is supposed to be in the neighbourhood of Birmingham. Absconded 15th February last. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Nottingham ; or to Supt. Carr, Midland Railway, Derby. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 36 — P Division.— Committed for trial at South London Sessions, 13th inst., on 2 charges of house- breaking — JOHN WILSON, a furrier, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, anchor and 7 dots left arm, 2 dots back of left band, 7 indistinct marks right forearm, scar both shoulderblades ; dress, blue melton cloth jacket and vest, grey- and- black stripe tweed trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots. WILLIAM JONES, a barman, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair very light, eyes ( full) grey, cast in right, " love " tattooed right arm, cross, dot, and indistinct marks on left, two dots left muscle, mole on chest and centre of back ; dress, light slate- colour jacket and vest, light check- twee' 1 trousers, black hard felt hat. Natives of Holloway. Identical with men described in Police Gazette, Case No. 4, 14th April last; also supposed identical with men in Case No. 8, 19th ult. Both previously convicted, Wilson as GEORGE PINCOMBE, and Jones as CHARLES EYANS. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. DERBYSHIRE. 37.— Chesterfield ( Borough). — Remanded for unlawful possession of a lady's silver geneva watch, No. 78223, " Guivre " under No., flower centre of dial, and a fancv silver chain, with tassel — EUGENE BURKE, alias JAMES BURKE, and SMITH, age 36, height 5ft. Sim., very red face, thick red hair, whiskers, and moustache, eyes blue, abscess scar right of throat; dress, grey worsted frock coat, light mixture tweed jacket, grey worsted vest, dark check trousers, black hard hat, blue muffler with white spots. Is tramping from London to Manchester, and states he found the watch and chain on the road, about half a mile north of Leicester, at 8 p. m., 27th ult. A marble cutter; native of Savoy, France. Information to Head Constable Emery, Chester- field. 1 ISLE OF WIGHT. 38.— Sandown ( County).— Committed for trial at the next Hants Quarter Sessions, for larceny— WILLIAM ANDERSON, alias EDGAR JOHN RICHARDS, SPARKS, ALBERT RICHARDS, EDGAR STEWART, LEWIS RICHARDS, and EDGAR BRAND, age 25, height 5 ft. 4£ in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, eyes dark blue, brown birth- mark right ribs, E. J , R.," horse's head, and dots tattooed left forearm, 4 dots back of left hand and wrist, scar on first finger and ring on each finger left hand, dot on back and scar inside right hand ; dress, dark- aud- light blue stripe flannel jacket with belt to match, white flannel trousers, grey cap, brown shoes. A native of Ipswich. Has been convicted at Ipswich, Woodbridge, Essex Quarter Sessions, Reading, Bedford Quarter Sessions, and Suffolk Assizes, and is now wanted at Reading and Oxford for larceny. See Case No. 14, 5th ult. Found to have been in his possession previous t9 his arrest, a double- case silver geneva watch, No. 77371, three- quarter plate, " fine silver " and crowa stamped inside. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 39. — Newport ( Borough). — Committed for trial at next Quarter Sessions, for conspiracy and fraud— JOSEPH HIRST, age 25, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, eyes blue, very thin head, scar upper part of right wrist. States he is a general dealer, and a native of Riccall, near York ; also that he has lately resided in Man- chester, and Broad Street, Salford. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, Newport. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 40.— Ketteri ng ( County).— Sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment, 31st nit., for pocket- picking— GEO. LA. BURN ( supposed false), a tramping tailor, age 56, height 5 ft. 8TT in., complexion dark, hair black, moustache brown, eyes gray, slight slit in right nostril; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, dark plaid trousers, long dark grev check overcoat, blue check print shirt, mauve tie, old lace boots. States he has served in the 9th Lancers, and is a native of Liverpool. Information to Supt. Hensher, Kettering. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 41.— Newark ( County).— Sentencedto3 months imprisonment, 12th ult, for loitering with intent to commit a felony at Hazleford races, 4th ult— JOHN JONES, age 76, height 5 ft. 7| in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, lump middle of back, scar left thigh. Sentenced at Nottingham, 6th November, 1892, to 1 months imprisonment for larceny ( person). Native of Newcastle. Sentenced to 1 months imprisonment for a like offence— JOSEPH SMITH, age 66, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, bair grey ( dyed black), whiskers round face and chin, grey, bald top of head, eyes grey, cut scar on left cheekbone, scar back of left shoulder. Sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for a like offence — JAMES WILSON, alias SLIM JIM REN SHAW, and GAUNTLET, age 54, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, bair grey, moustache sandy, eyes blue, mole right cheek and left shoulder, several moles on chest, scar back of neck ; native of Manchester. Sentenced to 9 months imprisonment, 17th December, 1878, and 12 months imprisonment, 11th February, 1880, at Manchester, for larceny; to 1 month, 15th September, 1882, at Doucaster, for frequenting; and 9 months, 9th April, 1890, at Leicester County Sessions for larceny ( welshing). Sentenced to 1 month imprisonment for a like offence— JAMES DUNN, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, full dark beard, eyes hazel. Sentenced, at Birmingham, to 1 months imprisonment, 30th October, 1876; to 21 days and 5 years reformatory, 22nd January, 1877; to 6 weeks, 11th November, 1880; and to 15 months and 2 years police supervision, in January, 1881, for larceny; and 3 months, 26th March, 1889; and 3 months, 7th July, 1891, for frequenting; and at Stafford, to 3 months, 12th February, 1891, for larceny. SHROPSHIRE. 42.— Shrewsbury ( Borough).— Committed for trial at the next Quarter Sessions for larceny ( person) — WILLIAM JONES, age 25, height 5 ft. H in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache dark brown, eyes grey, rather short nose, blue dot left forearm, and between first finger and thumb left hand, birthmark bottom of back, eruption on right wrist, palms of hands and fingers; dress, short black jacket, light trousers, black hard hat. SOMERSETSHIRE. 43.— Shepton Mallet ( Coutity).— Committed for trial at next Quarter Sessions for housebreaking 4 FRIDAY, JUNE 2, 1893. — THOMAS PRITCHARD, age 35, height 5 ft. 9in.' complexion, hair and moustache dark, eyes grey, scar left thigh, lost 2 upper front teeth; dress, black coat, brown vest, light trousers, black bowler hat, lace boots. Native of Hereford. — JOSEPH FLEMING, age 20, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, scar centre of forehead, cast right eye, moles on back and chest; dress, dark coat, black vest, dark trousers, brown bowler hat, lace boots. Bourke, Garstang. 54.— Old TrafFord ( County).-- 21st ult.— A gentleman's 18- carat gold signet ring, stone missing ; lady's gold dress ring, chased, set 4 pearls and 2 emeralds; 1 set of engraved gold studs; 1 lady's silver geneva watch, engraved case, white dial, minute- hand missing. Bent, Old Trafford. 55 — Bootle ( Borough).— 22nd inst.— 1 gentle- man's gold keyless lever watch, No. 66253, makers " Batty and Sons, Manchester," open face, curved glass, bevelled edge, shield on back ; a gold- plated' albert, equal size links, sqnare- edged rings fitting at right angles to each other, cross- bar and ring in a solid pieco attached. Information to Chief Constable Cumming, Bootle. 56.— Salford ( Borough).— 23rd ult.— A lady's double 18- carat gold ring, set 3 diamonds on one side and 2 diamonds and a ruby on the other, claw setting, looks like two rings fastened together; 4 ladies' 18- carat gold rings : 1 set 3 sapphires and 2 diamonds, low setting; 1 set 1 diamond and 2rubies,, in squares ; 1 half- hoop set 5 diamonds, claw setting;. 1 set 3 rubies and 2 diamonds, low setting; 1 22- carat gold brooch, made out of a medal, mounted in 18- carat gold, rim with inscription " The Northern Counties Athletic Association " on front, and " One mile, won by W. H. Morton," on back, about 2| oz. in weight. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Salford. SHROPSHIRE. 57.— Oswestry ( County).— 25th inst.— A pair of nearly new light cotton cord trousers, to fit a. youth, 15 years; a man's waist- belt ( webbing material), 2 buckles at one end, and 2 straps and leather pocket at the other; a pair of new grey woollen stockings; and a pocket- book, " Sutton Oak Manure " on back. Information to Supt. Langford, Oswestry. 58.— Shrewsbury ( Borough).— Between 24th and 25th ult., by office- breaking— A gold ring, monogram " C. A. H." thereon; a Colt's revolver, with a number of cartridges ; a red plush tobacco- pouch, with cross ferns worked in front; and about £ 35 gold and silver. SUFFOLK. 59.— Eye ( County).— 17th ult., at Shetland— A 50- in. ordinary bicycle, recently painted black, bright handle- bar and cranks, bone or horn T handles, brass hubs, ball bearings, makers " Bayliss and Thomas, Coventry." SURREY. 60.— Guildford ( County).— 30th ult., at Stoke — A silver English lever watch, No. 3633, open, face, maker, " Ribble," or " Kibble," Greenwich, brass chain attached.— Supposed by FREDERICK GILL, age 17, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh hair and eyes dark ; dress, dark coat and vest, black diagonal trousers, light cloth peak cap; may en- deavour to enlist.
