THE' , Police Gazette, OR tt HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. RBGULATIONH. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a " Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose liands it is. But the Constabulary should ' remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, ifcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim Description of a MAN, name and native place Unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 6th March, 1893, in tbe barony of Lower Toome, parish of Kirkinriola, assaulted and attempted to stab with a knife Rose Gilmer, and threatened to murder her:— Very dary eyes, regular nose, dark swarthy complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, abont SO Tears of age, dark bair, no whiskers or beard, may nave a slight moustache; wore a black greasy cap, dark or black coat, dark trowsers and vest; trade or occupation unknown; has the appearance of an engine fitter, mechanio, or sailor on tramp. Information sworn and warrant in hands of District Inspector, Ballymena. Ballymena, 6th March, 1893. ( 21220 c.— 10717). PATRICK SCULLION, alias JORDAN ( firing at the person), described in Hue- and- Ciy of 24th March, not arrested. ( 19619 7660.) Armagh. Particulars relative to convict HUGH DAILY, c 72, convicted at Armagh at the Assizes, on 14th July, 1886, for manslaughter, and sentenced to penal servitude for life, commuted to 10 years — 55 years of age on conviction, married, is a labourer, born at Tullykevin, county Armagh, resided before conviction at Blackwater, county Armagh, where his friends reside; gray hair, gray eyes, gray eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, oval worn visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high ; cut- mark between left thumb and finger, nail of right thumb Split, lost some teeth. 1 This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, 7th July, 1892, on licence. He left Armagh on 30th ult., and has not since been heard of. ^ kn the event of his arrest ho should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 27th April, 1893. ( 551 H. C.) cavan. Description of JAMES CORRIGAN, native of Gortamoan, county Fermanagh, who stands charged wi th having, on the 22nd April, 1893, at Blacklion, in the barony of Tullyhaw, parish of Killinagh, seriously assaulted one William Armstrong, by striking him with a stick on the head:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, light fair hair; wore a tweed cap, dark jaeket, gray . tweed knickerbockers, and long brown stockings ; is a farmer's son. Warrant has been issued and is in hands of Sergeant at Blacklion. Swanlinbar, 27th April, 1893. ( 22204 c— 12654.) Description cf JANE M'ENROE '( supposed fictitious), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd day of February, 1893, in the barony of Upper Loughtee, parish of Urney, abandoned her infant child ( ender 2 years), so as to endanger its life:— Sullen appearance ; small suken eyes, slightly hcoked ncse, sallow complexion, long full fece, stout make, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, about 21 years of age, black hair, with a monkey fringe; wore a black dreis and jacket, with a flowered print jacket underneath, a black hat, with some reddish flowers, and carried an umbrella; supposed to be a farmer's servant. Description of THOMAS DUIGNAN, native of Fatron, Ardlogher, county Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1893, in the barony of Loughtee Lower, parish of Tomregan, caused tbe death of Ellen M'Kiernan by blows and kicks:— Cray eyes, shoit thick nose, sallow com plexion, thin face, stout active make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, daik brown hair; wore a peak cap, light coat, light tweer* trowsers and vest; is a labourer. Killeshandra, 11th Jan. 1893, ( 20286 c.— 8878.) Inscription of WILLIAM HEWITT, Junior ( Mother's surname M'Meikle), native of Drum- connick, Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 13th December, 1892, in the barony of Upper Longhtee, parish of Urney, stabbed one Moses Rourke with a penknife, and being bound by recognizance to appear at Cavan Petty Sessions on 19th Decem- ber, 1892, has absconded from his bail:— Prominent teeth, square shoulders, active appearance; dark eyes, slightly hooked nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, 6 feet 1 inch high, about 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a black hard hat, dark coat, trowseTB, and vest; is a farmer's son. Cavan, 20th Dec., 1892. ( 19816 c.— 8064.) Clare, Description of a WOMAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12tli April, 1893, in the barony ot Bunratty Lower, parish of Bunratty, abandoned a male child, aged about 6 months, whereby the life of said child was endangered : — Very freckled face ; blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inchcs high, about 33 years of age, red hair; wore an old red dress, old gray shawl, no boots; is a tramp. Warrant issued, and in hands of District Inspector at Sixmilebridge. Sixmilebridge, 18th April, 1893. ( 21925 c.— 12255.) MICHAEL KELLY ( carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 years), not arrested, Hue- and- Cry, 28th October, 1892. ( 18867 c 6194.) MICHAEL CLUNE ( house- breaking), Hno- and- Cry, 2nd Sept., not arrested. ( 16138 c— 1869.) Down. Licensed Convict JOSEPH KELLY, or CONNOR described in issue of 24th March, not arretted. ( 526 H. C.) Dublin. Description of JOSEPH DOREY, native of Naul, county Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 4th April, 1893, in the barony of Rathdown, parish of Taney, escaped from Dundrum Criminal Lunatic Asylum, where he was confined during the pleasure of Her Majesty:— Lost some of his front teeth, broad stooped shoulders, steps short when walk- ing, and turns in his toes ; high cheek bones, high forehead, shaves face except moustache and side whiskers, which it is likely he will get removed, blue sunken eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age, light flaxen hair; wore a black morning coat, black trowsers and vest, all of same material, descrip- tion of hat not known ; is a coachman. Dorey was indicted for the murder of his wife at Naul, but deemed to be of unsound mind, ho was committed to this Asylum. Dundrum, 13th April, 1893. ( 21881 c— 12072). PATRICK LAWLESS ( attempted rape), described in issue of 7th April, not arrested. ( 19718 c.— 7860). Fermanagh. Information required concerning THOMAS MARTIN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 21st December, 1892, in the barony of Magheraboy, parish of Inishmacsaint, ob- tained goods by false pretences from James Earls, Slavin, Belleek. It is supposed that he has committed other similar offences. His " modus operandi" is to get into correspondence with poultry and game dealers, & c., and obtain large consignments of goods, for which he cannot pay, being an undischarged bankrupt. He is at present undergoing a term of imprisonment in England for a similar offence ; is a commission agent. Information sworn and Warrant issued. Derrygonnelly, 8th Mar., 1893. ( 21352 c 11014.) Description of MICHAEL READE, native ol Kilmoganny, who stands charged with having, on the 8th Jnne, 1892, in the barony of Municipal Borough, parish of St. Mary's, stolen a silver Geneva watch from one James Blanchford. The watch was found on the accused when arrestsd, and he was bound by recognizance to appear at Thomastown Petty Sessions on 7th March, It93, but failed to appear and h » r absconded:— Dark brown eyes, regular nose, palt complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet inches' high, about 20 or 21 year) of age, dark hair, no beard or whiskers} wore a tweed cap, tweed coat, light tweed trowsers and vejt, is good looking and of respectable appearance; is a groom or stableboy. Description of JAMES CASSERLY, native of Corraniary, who stands charged with having, on the 24th April, 1893, in the barony of Carrigallen, parish of Cloone, seriously assaulted Francis Kilkenny, of Kilafee, by striking him with a spade, and endanger- ing his life :— Has a fresh cut on side of head ; shaves upper lip ; wears all his beard which is brown ; gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black soft felt hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer. Description of JOSEPH O'REILLY, native of Limerick City, who stands charged with having, on the 20th March, 1892, in the borough ot Limerick, parish of St. Michael's, embezzled the sum of £ 20 and upwards, the property of his employer, Mr. John Murphy:— Heavy dark brown moustache, long feet, respectable looking, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a tweed sack- coat, striped trowsers, tweed vest; is an assistant goods agent. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of the Head Constable at William- street, Limerick. Limerick, 28th March, 1893. ( 21596 c 11493.) WILLIAM FITZGERALD ( chargod with murder), Hne- and- Pry, 12th May, has not been arrested. ( 98360 c.— 86735. Londonderry. JAMES M'PEAKE ( serious assault), described in issue of 7 th April, not arrested. ( 19864c.— 8141). longford. Description of JOHN M'NALLY ( mother's sur- name M'Quaid), native of Ohill, who stands charged with having, on the 6th December, 1898, in the barony of Longford, parish of Killoe, seriously assaulted John Corrigan, of Melkagh, by stabbing him with a knife :— Square broad shoulders, swaggering gait, gene- rally walks with his hands in his pockets; gray or blue eyes, long nose, pale complexion, round face, • tout make, about 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cap, dark coat, trow- sers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Description of PATRICK TUITE, native of county Mcath, who stands chargcd with having, on the 2nd April, 1893, in the barony of Lower Deece, parish of knockmark, stolen from a dwelling, one ten pound and one five pound note ( numbers not known or bank from which issued), three sovereigns and ten shillings in silver:— Neglected appearance, keeps his eyes shut when speaking, blue or gray eyes, regular nose, red complexion, small face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 65 or 70 years of age, gray beard whiskers and moustache cut short, long gray hair; wore a corduroy jacket over brown drab coat, corduroy trowsers, no vest; is a tramplabourer. Warrant issued. Dunshaughlin, 4th April, 1893. ( 21719 c 11730). Tipperary. Description of PATRICK DALY, no fixed place, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of March, 1893, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, failed to notify'to the police at Tipperary his change of residence, being a convict on ticket of leave:— Cut mark front of head and left side of forehead, lost a front upper tooth, kick mark on left shin ; gray eyes, long slight hooked nose, fresh com- plexion, oval face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 51 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard round jerry hat, gray tweed coat, tweed trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. Tipperary, 27th March, 1893. ( 646 H. C.) Description of Gunner JAMES MORRISSEY, No. 95238, a deserter or absentee without leave from 3rd Sub- Depot, Co. So. D. R. As— 24^ years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, fresh complexion, dark biown bair, gray eyes; date and place of de; or tion cr absence, 14th February, 1893, at Templemore; date and place of enlistment, 21st January, 1893, at Templemore; born in the parish of Saint Catherine's, Dublin; mole undar right ear; is a groom; dressed in regimentals. Description of MARY MOLONEY, native of county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 28th January, 1893, at Ballyhane, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, parish of Toem, stolen a purse bolonging to Alice Lloyd, containing one pound end ten shillings, also with obtaining goods by falsa pretences :— Prominent front teeth, slight space between them, lisps when speaking and generally laughs when spokan to; dark eyes; swarthy com- plexion t medium mate; 5 feet high ; about 35 years of age ; black hair, curly in front; wore en old black dress, old black shawl, laced boots, and wore a neck- lace with beads; tramp and servant girl. Description of JOHN RYAN " PLUNKHAM" ( Mother's surname Ryan, " Plunger"), native of Curraghmore, who stands charged with having, on the 30th December, 1892, in the barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Kilmastulla, fired at the person of Martin Troy:— Has marks of old cuts on his head; is good looking ; prominent gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feat 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a hard hat, snufi coloured tweed coat, trowsers, and vest j is a labourer. Warrant issued ( or his arrest. Newport, 31st December, 1892. ( 20121 c.— 8616.) WILLIAM BUCKLEY ( stabbing), described in issue of 7th April, not arrested. ( 19701 c 7876). Tyrone; Description of JAMES COLLINS, alias BEATTY, supposed to be a native of Glasgow, who stands charged with having, on the 15th December, 1892, in the barony of Strabane Upper, parish of Badoney Lower, unlawfully stolen £ 17, in single notes, and a small single- barrelled pistol from the house of one Daniel M'Goldrick ( small farmer), with whom ho was a hired servant:— Two upper front teeth black, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, soft white face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 16 years of age, very black hair ; wore a two- peaked whitish cap, dark sack coat and old dark trowscrs, patched on seat with corduroy; is a farm servant. Description cf PATRICK MEENAN ( mother's surname M'Court), native of Aldrummond, who stands charged with having, on the 8th December, 1892, in the barony of Strabane Upper, parish of Cappagh, unlawfully fired a gun at Andrew Wasson, a game- keeper to Sir William M'Mahon:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about SO years of age, fair hair; wore a black peak cap, dark coat, gray trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son and labourer. ( Warrant in the hands of A. S. Munn. Royal Irish Constabulary, Mountfield, for his arrest.; Newtownstewart, 10th December, 1892. ( 19744 c.— 7901.) Wicklow. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 19th March, 1893, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow :— OWEN REILLY, No. 2,339, about 20 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches or 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, round visage ; formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin ; his parents are dead ; lost first joint of little finger of left hand, and has tattoo marks on his arms. _ The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, con- sists of:— Moleskin trowsers and vest, long frieze coat, cloth cap ( Scotch make), strong nailed boots, No. 2,339. He will endeavour to leave the country and enlist in the army as he did whilst away as an absconder in 1891. Some time ago liis brother, William, resided at Cloghran, county Dublin, and his brother James at 35, Commons- street, Dublin. He has a sister in High- park Reformatory, Drumcondra, The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 20th March, 1893. ( 543 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 19th March, ] 893, absconded from the Saint Kevin's Reformatory School at Glenoree, county Wicklow :—. THOMAS PERRY, No. 2,441, about 19 oj 20 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, ( tout make, fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, large nose, ordinary mouth, ovsl or round visage, and ratter eour- lookiiMr formerly belonged to £ 0, Jervis- street, Dublin; mottwr and brother reside at 57, Great Strand- street, Dublin; " T" and " J. P." tattooed on right forearm. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and vest, cloth cap ( Scotch make), strong nailed boots, No. 2,441. This boy worked as a shoemaker for some time in Skerries, county Dublin. He will endeavour to leave the c untry and probably to enlist, if he cannot get work at the shoemaking. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arretted, to the nearest Justice, on remand, aid will reward the person who may capture him wit1! £ 1. 2 Hh March, 1893. ( 543 H. C.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. Particulars relative to convict GEORGE CAMPBELL, otherwise SAMUEL ROBINSON, c 55, convicted at Downpatrick, county Down, at Assizes, on 13th March, 18P6, for larceny and previoua conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, and 851 days of a former sentence:— 55 years of ag< » , married, is a saddler, born in Larne, his friends resu'e near Larne; brown hair tcroin? gray, gray eyes, dark brown eyebrows, large hooked ncss, large mouth, fresh complexion, broad visago, ftout make, 5 feet 5 inches high; cut- mark on ball of left thumb, lost nearly all front teeth. This man wss released from Mountjoy Prison on 6th inst., and reported himself to the Dublin Metro- politan Police. He stated he would return and noti'y his residence, but he has not done so, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrost he should be dealt with under 84 and 36 Vic., rap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 13th March. 1893. ( 542 H. C.) Particulars relative to convict THOMAS BDRKF, c 313, convicted at Limerick at County Quarter Sessions, on ftli April, 1889, for breaking into a shop and stealing, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and 2 jeirs' police supervision:— 53 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer; born in Dublin; resided before conviction in Limerick; dark brown hair, blue eyes, light brown eyebrows, large nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval vifage, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches hi^ h; cuts on head, cross and dot on back of right wrist, varicose veins in right leg. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on 4th January, 1893, and went to Cork. He left his residence, 2, Old George's street, in that city, on 6th ult, without reporting to Royal Irish Constabulary, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, eec. 6, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 13th March, 1693. ( 542 H. A ) Description of CHARLES FLUDGATE, who stands charged with stealing, on S9th ult., a horse, saddle, and bridle from Portobello Barracks, Dublin, the property of the Commander- in- Chief of Her Majesty's Forces :— He is 24 years old, 6 feet 4 Inches high, medium make, dark hair aad complexion, shaved face except small dark moustache; when last seen was dressed in a brown jerry hat, a light colour check lounge rait, and black cloth top eoat; is an Army Reservist and a native of Dublin. Warrant in the hands of the Chief Superintendent, Dublin Castle. ( 523 H. C.) ENGLISH POLICE. Cheshire. THREE MEN charged with robbery of jewellery, and described in issue of 18th April, not arrested. ( 545 H. C.) Cambridgeshire. W. J. AINSBURY ( assault), Iluc- and- Cry, 18th April, not arrested. ( 531 H. C.) . Essex. <*. Description of JOSEPH RAWLINGS, native of Billericay, Essex, late Bethnal Green, London, wanted at Brentwood, Essex, for stealing a horse, cart, and a TEX POLICE QAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, MAY 2, 1893, set of harness ( recovered), at South Weald, on the 17th March, 1893 s — Bald top of head, scar left cheek, scar left side of neck, right side large scar inside leg from fracture, red mole spine; 70 years of age, very active of his age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, stout build, gray hair, generally dyed very dark, blue bushy eyebrows; wore a round hard felt hat and dark clothes. He is now supposed to be travelling in Ireland with low horse dealers. War- rant issued. Information to Superintendent ALLEN, Brentwood, Essex. 14th April, 1893. ( 550 H. C.) Description of CHARLES KUBLER, a German, who is charged under the Merchandise Marks' Act:— About 55 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium complexion, light brown hair turning gray, gray eyes ; stout and broad shoulders, extra large square looking head, full beard and moustache sandy inclined, always wears eye- glasses, inclined to be bow- legged, speaks fairly good English, with slight German accent, is quickly excited ; wore a half- ball felt hat, with wider rim than usually worn, dark overcoat and trowsers. N. 249), native of Longton, who stands charged with having failed to report himself, being a convict on licence, he having been liberated from Borstal Convict Prison on the 20th March, 1893:— Nose inclines to right, hair thin top of head, scar centre of forehead, left eye weak, mole left shoulder, mole left side ribs, mole left buttock, scar between thumb and finger and top of first finger right hand, cut on each eyebrow, cut on upper left arm, 42 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes. ODBERT, Chemist's Assist- ant, who absconded from his employment on the 24th, stealing £ 10, the moneys of his master:— Age 23, height 5 feet 11 inches, pale complexion, thin face, blue eyes, hair dark brown, small dark moustache cut short to lip, little side whiskers, slight build ; walks erect having been in the Army, which be may again join ; dressed in blue te- ge sac coat, dark trowsers, and vest with wide opening, wore a white muffler, but no OT ercoat, black bowler hat, and patent leather shoes; speaks with a strong Irish accent; bas been in the t erviceof Mr. Walsh, Chemist, 30, Westmoreland- street, Dublin, and Mr. Baker, 174, Victoria- street, London. For obtaining, by false pretences, on the 25th instant, a gent's new silver English lever watch, No. 9,158, " J. Winder, Kendal" on bar; a gent's silver Albert guard, dog- chain pattern, which has for a pendant a medal, with a round shield on one side, and plain on the reverse side : - A MAN, name unknown, 30 to 35 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, dark complexion, dark moustacho, short whiskers all round, well built, full face, wavy bair, slightly bushy at sides; dressed in dark check morning coat, lighter trowsers, and light cap with peak. His hands look like a workman's hands, second finger right hand has been amputated between first and second joints ; carried a stick with a silver knob. Has a dark overcoat and white silk muffler with him, also white straw bat, with blue and white striped ribbon round. Warrant issued. Description of SIDNEY PHILIP POUND, who is charged with obtaining'tlie sum of £ 3,000 by means of forged Banker's cheques:- 32 years of ago, looks younger, about 5 feet high, rather sallow com- plexion, dark hair, clean shaven, longish prominent nose, thin build ; stylishly dressed, wearing gaiters, large collar, and cuffs, etc. Warrant issued.
