All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning personswhose apprehension is sough t will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and, address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portra, t, and of Is. Sd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by thesiqnature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolenproperty bear a number, a,. dar* alphabetically arranged by counties. g. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted im the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whi?/ i may reiu't from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later thorn noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by • covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. Cities and Boronghs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the nnmber at present snpplied will he forwarded on application in the form set. forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- ations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of erime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( rf) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 1. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— K Division.— For stealing, 28th ult., a very dark brown gelding, 13 hands, long tail, white spot on top of back; and a light spring trap, painted black, wheels picked out pea green, one cap of wheel deficient, " Read, Woodford," on cap of wheel— A MAN, age about 36, height about 5 ft. 10 in., com- plexion fair, moustache and side- whiskers light, very red nose; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat, flat top. 2.— M Division.— For stealing £ 35 3s. 9d. cash and a £ 5 note— JOHN WILLIAM FORDHAM, age 16, height 5 ft., slight build, complexion pale, t. hin features, hair black, eyes grey; dress, black jacket and vest, light mixture trousers, black bard felt l. at: of respectable appearance. An office boy; native of London. 3.— V Division. — For stealing, 27th ult, 26 £ 5 Bank of England notes, endorsed " London Joint Stock Bank. 11/ 7/ 92"— SAMUEL BEAN, age 11, medium height, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, dark pepper and- salt knicker suit, black alpine hat, black stockings, lace boots; of respectable appearance. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. £ 50 REWARD. 4. — Woodcut portrait and description of IGNATIUS WIEDER, late of 1, Piccadilly, aud Newport House, Great Newport- street, London, whose apprehension is sought for stealing jewellery, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion sallow, hair ( wavy) brown, eyes grey, large mouth and ears, thick lips, upper lip twitches when talking ; dress, black coat and vest, high silk hat, patent leather boots. A jeweller and practical watchmaker; native of Austria. Speaks good English. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Lewis & Lewis, Solicitors, Ely- place, London, E. C., to any person giving such information a? shall ( within 3 months from 8th nit.) lead to the appre- hension and conviction of Wieder. Information to Supt. McWilliam, 26, Old Jewry, E C. BEDFORDSHIRE. 5.— Luton ( County). — For larceny ( lodger)— A MAN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., hair ( cut short) turning grey, and moustache dark; dress, brown coat, dark striped trousers, hard felt hat. Stated he was employed to erect a telephone at Leagrave Railway Station ( false), and obtained lodgings on 14th ult., and breakfast next morning, when he left, without paying, after stealing the sum of 5s. He obtained food and lodgings at two places at Luton on the same pretence, and left with- out paying. Information to Supt. Tydeman, Luton. 6.— Bedford ( Borough). — For stealing, 20th ult., a brown pony, lost one eye, broken- winded, sore on back; a costermonger's barrow, shafts screwed to sides, very low red wheels— Two men, ( lst) THOMAS DAVIS, thick set, gruff talking, tooth in lower jaw which grows under the tongue ; dress, striped jertey, sleeve vest — ( 2nd) PLATER, thin build, taller than the other man ; dress, dark trousers, sleeve vest. Natives of Luton. Have the appearance of costermongers. Information to Chief Constable Thody, Bedford. BERKSHIRE. 7.— Maidenhead ( Borough). — For stealing a basket containing carpenter's tools ( partly re- covered) at Gerrard's Cross — A MAN, age 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., eomplexion fair, hair ( inclined to curl) light brown, small light moustache, eyes light; dress, dark coat and vest, old brown trousers, white apron twisted round waist, hard felt hat. Frequents public houses. Supposed to be a car- penter, and that his father keeps a greengrocer's shop at Hammersmith, London. Information to Supt. Was last seen at Tilbury Docks on 17th inst. Warrant issue 1. 5.— M Division.— For stealing diamond rings and gold chains— A MAN, age 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair, moustache ( turning grey) and eyes dark ; dress, black coat and vest, stand- up collar, white tie with gold horseshoe and whip pin in centre, high bat, wears a single stone diamond ring on left little finger. Warrant issued. 6— N Division.— For stealing £ 85 14s.— ARTHUR TRACEY MATTHEWS, age 23, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, clean shaved, hair brown, crossed flags tattooed on left forearm; dress, light grey suit, black hard felt hat. A native of London. Was recently discharged from 4th Hussars at Colchester. Warrant issued. D." in red cotton on collar; 12 ditto collars, " C. L. D." in red cotton ; 12 white pocket handkerchiefs, " C. L. LANCASHIRE. 24. — Bootle ( County). — For shooting and killing a man with a revolver, at Fazakerley, 2nd inst.— TWO YOUTHS, ( 1st) age about 15, tall, peculiar long shaped head, thin face ; dress, brown- and- black spotted overcoat with cape, black trousers, black billycock hat, lace boot3. ( 2nd) age about 13, round red face, not so tall as the other youth ; dress, black jacket, black- and- white jacket under, which he had buttoned, black- and- white plaid scarf, round black cap. These youths were seen shortly before the occurrence in the neighbourhood where the shot was fired, the older boy having a revolver in his possession, and were seen running away after the report was heard. The older boy said they had come 100 miles, and the younger one stated they had come from Bolton. Both spoke with a broad dialect. The younger boy had £ 10 in his possession and it is very probable that they have absconded with money belonging to their parents or employers. These marks are in a group of four marks stamped on the bottom of the cup, the other two marks being the usual lion passant and the leopard's crowned head used upon old English silver.
