Description of MICHAEL STAPLETON ( mother's surname Purcell), native of Gortkelly, and TWO MEN unknown, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1891, in the barony of Eliogarty, parish of Temple- more, seriously assaulted Sergeant Thomas Devany and Constable James Drohan, R. I. C., while in the execution of their duty:— 1. Small sandy side whiskers and moustache, good looking, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 29 years of age, sandy hair; wore a soft black hat, lost in the row and now in possession of the Police, blue overcoat, and black trowsers and vest. Description of PATRICK DELANEY, native of Holycross, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of July, . 1891, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, and town of Tipperary, when under arrest for larceny of whiskey from a dwelling, escaped from custody :— Blotches on face, very sharp manner of speaking; gray eyes, very small nose, red complexion, very thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair turning gray; were an old tweed coat, dark trowsers, and old vest; shabby clothes, coat torn on left arm; is a tramp, Warrant for his arrest with District Inspector, Tipperary. Deery, by striking him several times on the head with a stick:— Speaks through his to- e, shaves all his face except small fair moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair? wore a soft felt hat, dark frieze coat, gray trowsers, and white sleeved vest; is a farmer's son. Description of ANDREW M'CREA, native of Killowen, who stands charged with having, on the 9th October, 1891, in the barony of Omagh West, parish of Longfield West, fired a shot at John M'Menamin:— Shaved all his face rooently except moustache, which is sandy; brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full faoe, stout make, 5 feet 7^ incnes high, about 28 years of age, sandy hair; is a Labourer. Description of THOMAS CASHEL ( mother's surname Foley), native of Cappoquin, who stands charged with having, on or about the 3rd September, 1891, in the barony of Coshmore and Coshbride, parish of Lismore, stolen a letter containing a postal order for 15*. :— Walks with a slight stoop and swaggering gait, gray, or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years cf age, fair hair; wore a light tweed cap, dark tweed coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a servant boy. It is probable he may have enlisted. Warrant has been issued for his arrest in hands of District Inspector, Cappoquio. Cappoquin, 23rd Oct., 1891. ( 12255 c.— 94555.) Wicklow. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 23rd November, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree :— JOHN FITZPATRICK, 2252, about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 or 5 feet 3 inohes high, ordinary make, fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage, small cut- mark on top of head; formerly belonged to 24, Upper Mercer- street, Dublin; his parents reside at Goss's, 14, Aungier- street, Dublin. The school drers, all with the Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, corduroy trowsers, moleskin vest, elastic belt, and strong nailed boots, No. 2252. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 25th November, 1891. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 23rd November, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree :— JAMES M'SHEA, 2403, about 16 years of age, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, ordinary make, fresh com- plexion, bfrown hair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage ; cut mark on forehead s formerly belon jed to 2 or 3, Clarendon- row, Dublin; parents reside at 4, Lower Mercer- street, Dublin. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, moleskin vest, corduroy trowsers, elastic belt, strong nailed boots, No. 2408. M'Shane. - is the boy's real name, his brother- in- law, Joseph Walsh ( window blind maker), resides at 3, Lower Kevin- street, and his aunt, Mrs. Rafferty, who works at Jacob's, resides in Bride- street, Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, On remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 25th November, 1891. Description of MATHEW FAHY, who stands charged with the larceny of three cheats of tea from the premises of the Midland Great Western Railway Company, at North Wall, cn 30th November, 1891:— 35 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, ronr. d shoulders, brown bair, full face, heavy eendy moustache, remainder of face shared ; when last seen was dressed in cross- bar tweed suit and black Jerry hat; is a native of Woodford, county Galway, and has friends residing at Athenry and Nenagh, Warrant in the hands cf Chief Superintendent. 9th January, 1892. Particulars relative to Convict THOMAS BURNS, c. 128, convicted at the Recorder's Court, Belfast, county Antrim, cn 17th February, 1887, for break- ing and entering, and larceny, and previous conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 28 years of ope on conviction, single, is an iron turner, born at Falls- road, Belfast, resided at Belfast before conviction; has friends residing at Divis- street, Bel- fast :— Fair bair, gray eyes, fair eyebrows, broad nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5$ inchcs l. ighjscar cn forehead, right knee, and left breast, two ffbtis between left thumb and finger, lost several upper teeth. This man was released cn licence from Monntjoy Prison on 28th April, 1891, end went to Belfast. He left his residence on the 16th ult. without reporting to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 84 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. 5th November, 1891. ( 437 H. Particulars relative to Convict THOMAS NASH, convicted at Chelmsford, Essex, at the Quarter Sessions, on the 19th October, 1887, for fraud, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude and 3 years' police super- vision :— 45 years of age on conviction, is a labourer, born in Middlesex; no fixed residence; brown hair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 3 inches high; scar on left arm. This man was released from Pentonville Prison on licence, 29th October, 1891. He ratified to the Dublin Metropolitan Pojice on 26th ult. that he going to Cork, but he has not reported himself there^^ and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 84 and 35 Vic., cap. 11?. 21st January, 1892. - ( 451 H. C.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, FEBRUARY 2, % B% 2 M Lancashire. Wanted, for forging and uttering two Post Office Orders, about 2 p. m., on the 27th instant, a man who gave his name as THOMAS DILLON or DICKENS:— Spoke with an Irish accent, abcnt 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark com- p'exipn, dark hair and small side whiskers, long features; dressed in a shabby dark brown Chesterfield overcoat, black feh'hat. white cashmere muffler, and dark trowsers; on another occasion he wore a shabby brown tweed suit. On the 2<~ th instant he obtained two Post Office Orders for Is. each, at a Branch Post Office, payable to William Gardner at Bradford, and Waiter Dudley at Northampton; when presented they had each been altered to £ 5, payable at Liverpool He purchased a black Inverness macintosh, . with a velvet collar- ( which he may wear), for 30*., at a large out fitters, and got both Orders cashed at the shop where the purchase was made. Kindly cause every possible enquiry to be made; wain shopkeepers; and if met with arrest and wire, or forward any information to GEOrgE WILLIAMS, Chief Superintendent. HAMILTON, alias ERNEST HAIG, alias E. A. HAIG, 34 years of age, 5 feet 7^ inches in height without shoes, pale complexion, slender male, brown hair, strong brown moustache, otherwise clean shaved, blue eyes, and prominent nose. » ' his mode of operation is to call as J. Hamilton cn hotel- keepers ard others and represent that he is travelling for the publisher of the " British end Foreign Hotel Directory and Travellers' Guide, the publisher being himself under the alias of J. Alfred E. Riddell, 81, English- street, Carlisle. From letters and papers found in his possession it has been arcertained that he ba « visited the principal cities and towns in Scotland, England, and Ireland, especially the towns and vil- lages in the- Border Counties. He advertised in the " Westmoreland Gazette" on 6th, 18th, and 20th June; in the " Examiner," pub- lished by John Waller & Co., Warrington, on 13th, SOih, and 27th June; in the " Kendal and County News " cn 27th June— Notice to Hotel Proprietors. < fec., anent " British and Foreign Hotel Directory." Also in the " Daily Scotsman" of 20th, 22nd, and 23rd June; in the " Hawick Advertiser" of 30th October; and in the " Dumfries and Galloway Courier and Herald" of 30th and 31st October and 4th November, for agents and canvassers under the aliases of J. Alfred E. Riddell, Ernest Haig, and E. A Haig. He was married fo Alice Mary Haig or Isdale, on 2nd November, 1887, at 2, Park Grove- terrace, Glasgow, his address then being 165, Bellfield- street there. Riddell and his wife appear to have been residing at the following addresses on the after- ment'oned dates, viz.:— Jn June, 1888, at 41, Castle- street, Kendal; from September, 1888, to September, 1889, at 126, George- st., Oban, and 5, Craigard- road there j in December, 1889, at 60, Donegal- pass, Belfast; from June to September, 1890, at 425, Eglinton- street, Glasgow; in December. I8f0, at Borthwick Bank, Mill- street, Dunoon ; in February, 1891, at 3, Queen - street, or 41, Cumberland street, Edinburgh; from June to September, 1891, at 17, North - Summer street, North Circular- road, Dublin; and from September, 1891, to date, at 81, English- street, or 15, Henry street, Carlisle. During the a^ ova periods Riddell seems to have been carrying on tl e lusiness of a Private Detective in Glasgow, at Oban, and Dunoon, and that of a Canvasser or Commission Agent in Edinburgh, Dublin, and Carlisle. Description of a brooch and watch, the property of Mrs. Fitzgerald Kenny, which were stolen from her dwellinghouse at Clogher, pariah of Drum, and county of Mayo, between 31st July, 1891, and 14th January, 1892, by some person or parsons at present unknown:— 1. A white pearl brooch, with a purple stone ( amethyst) set in cantr3; value £ 40. A reward of £ 5 will be given for its recovery. .2. A French watch, set at the back with imitation rubies and pearls, also a row of pearls round the dial, four or five of wbioh were missing, the keyhole tor winding the watch was on the dial. A reward of £ 1 will be given for its recovery. It is supposed these articles were pawned either in the country or in Dublin city or suburbs. Informa- tion to be given to District Inspector, R. I. Description of a watch and chain, which were stolen from Hugh Hayden, a draper's assistant from Athlone, while on a visit here, on Saturday night, 26th inst., viz.:— A gold American watch, open- faced, black bands, and sunk second band, is a self winder, " H. H.," the owner's initials, are engraved on the inside and outside the back of the watch, and the words " Elgin, 111. Watch Co." engraved on dial, value for about £ 25. Description of plate, the property of Ardnurcher Parish, which was stolen from the Protestant Church at Horseleap, parish of Ardnurcher, barony of Moy- cashel, on the ? 8th or 29th day of August, 1891, - probably by tinkers:— One large flagon, supposed silver, broad at bottom, tapering to top, side straight, had a lid, handle, andspoat, no inscription; one chalice, gold lined, no inscription, goblet- shaped, similar to a large wine- glass, supposed silver, bnt " may be plated; one paten, supposed silver j may be plated, has a raised bottom of about two inches, size of a breakfast plato, inscribed " Ardnurcher Church"; cne alms- dish, very small, silver, quite fiat, with a rim, inscritel " Horse- leap Church, 1806.'
