THE' Police Gazette, OR HUE- AND- CRY. j ' Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Fridays RSJOULATIOHTI % gT All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary^ Dublin Castle, authenticated, by a Separate Communication, No Description can bo inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn j but it ia not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been Issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of tiua nature unless they have the " Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. V Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY, Antrim. Description of the undernamed young offender?, who, on the 21st September, 189], absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— 1. ROBERT MEHAFFEY, 13 years of age, brown hair, gray eyes, gray eyebrows, sharp nose, small moutb, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 4 feet 8 inches high s is a labourer; born at Belfast; his parents reside at 16, Matier- street, Belfast. Dressed when he absconded in Glengsrry cap, moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, blua and white striped shirt, red and black check tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. 2. JOHN BUBROWS, 15 years of age, dark hair, gray eyes, dark eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high j is a labourer; born at Barrow, England; his parents reside at 18, Island- street, Belfast; his grandmother, Sarah J. Campbell, lives at 25, Hamilton- place, on Albert Bridge- road s his grandfather, J. Burrows, lives in Main- street, Bangor; his aunt, Jane Clarke, lives in Mountpottinger- road, Belfast. Dressed when he absconded in Glengarry cap, moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, blue and white striped shirt, red and black check tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of their conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture them with £ 1 each. 24 th September, 189J. C.) ^ uereription of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 11th September, 1891, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast:— HUGH BELL, 16 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, large mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, scrofula marks on left side of neck, chicken- cheated : is a farm boy; formerly belonged to Clifton- street, Belfast, where he was born; his parents reside at 86, Boundry- street; his undo, George Bell, Farmer, lives at Ballykeel, Dromore, county Down. Dressed when he absconded in a Glengarry cap, dark tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, blue and white striped shirt, red and black check tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 17th September, 1891. ( 425 H. O.) ANDREW GRAHAM ( young offender), Hue- and- Cry, 23rd June, not arrested. ( 393 H. C.) Belfast. Description of EDWARD S. W. DE COBAIN, native of Belfast, who stands charged that he did, within the past two years, at Belfast, commit an act of gross indecency with anothor male person, and within the same time, and at the place aforesaid did incite divers other male persons to commit sodomy:— Walks erect, square shoulders, corpulent, contracts eyebrows when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, fall face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a silk hat, black Chesterfield ovorcoat, black frock coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest; is a Member of Parliament. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Detective Department, Belfast, to whom information should be sent. NOTE— Arrest cannot be legally made without Warrant. Belfast, 15 th April, 1891. Carlow. CHRISTOPHER M'DONALD ( obtaining money by false pretences), Hue- and- Cry 29th September, not arrested. ( 11287 c.— 92828.) TIMOTHY DRISCOLL ( house attack), Hue- and- Cry, 29th September, not arrested. ( 9775 c.— 90171.) Down. Description of WILLIAM WILSON, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 21st September, 1891, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Drumbo, stolen a suit of clothes, a pair of shoes, a cap, and .£ 3 in single notes, from the dwelling- house of one John Bourke, and with having broken out therefrom:— Sore on back of right hand, scab on left cheek, red cheeks, stoppage in speech, blue eyes sharp nose, fresh complexion, fresh face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age, very fair hair; wore a blue cap, dark tweed coat, striped tweed trowsers, and dark tweed vest, Lome shoes, being the clothes stolen; is a labourer. Description of PATRICK ODLUM, native of Banagher, King's County, who Btands charged with having, on the 5th day of August, 1891, in the barony of Longford, parish of Killimorbollogue, embezsled the sum of £ 10 12*. Ad., the property f John Hannon, Esq., J. P., Banagher, King's County'.— Swaggering gait, was in the army, sallow complexion, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of ago, fair hair, slight moustache; wore a dark eoat; is a van driver. Portumna, 10th August, 1891. ( 11051 o.— 92442.) Kerry. JAMES BALLANCE ( stealing), Hue- and- Cry, 11th August, has not been arrested. ( 9902 o.— 90398.) Kilkenny. Description of JOHN or MICHAEL LAWLOR, native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, in the month of January, 1891, in the barony of Kells, parish of Killamory, stolen a watch, the property of Michael Lonergan, of Roscon, which has been sirce recovered:— Blind in one eye ( probably the right), cut- mark on ear, regular nose, yellow corn- plosion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age; wore a soft hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a tramping labourer. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 20th September, 1891. absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County:— WILLIAM LAWLER, No. 1171, 19 years of age, about 5 feet inches high, medium make, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; three dots, cross, and small stroke on left arm, scald on back of head; formerly belonged to Dublin; his mother, Jane Lawler, resides at 3, Ranelagh- avenue, Dublin. Tie dress consists of:— Black hard felt hat, mole- skin trowsers, navy blue serge jacket and vest, Blucher boots. He is a good baker; he may try to hire with a baker or farmer, or he may enlist. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and wUl reward the person who may capture him with 10s. 28th September, 1891. ( 10313 c.— 91142.) Longford. Description of PATRICK NOON, ex- convict, native place unknown, wbo stands charged with having in his pot session, on the 19th September, 1891, in the barony of Ardagb, parish of Temple- michael, articles of wearing apparel, for which he was nnable to account sat'sfactoriW, and it is believed thay have been stolen:— A man's shirt, linen breasted 9 boys' Fhirts ( 8 white and 1 blus); 4 chemises, white pocket handkerchiefs ; 5 bibs 2 large white, 1 small with lace all ronnd and crochet woik in centre ; 2 ( mall white bibs, 1 large blue bib, 3 white aprons, 1 blue check apron, 1 twilled calico towel, 2 white twilled calico pillow covers, 1 deep bine striped fcpron, 2 red and white pocket ' handkerch: efs, 4 pair of stockings, 1 o'd snuff- coloured cap, 1 white calico bag, 1 blay- coloured child'" bib : all snppos d to have been stolen off hedges. His description is as fol- lows :— Bald on top of head, hazel ejes small flat nose, sallow complexion, small face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, and about 69 years of age, dark hair turning gray; is a dealer. ( 11854 c.— 93763.) Meath. Man, giving the name of MURPHY ( larceny), Hue- and- Cry, 8th September, not arrested. ( 9924 o.— 90570). Roscommon. Description of PATRICK TANSEY ( mother's surname Doherty), native of Churchacre, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 8th September, 1891, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Kilronsn, assaulted one Patrick M'Greevy, so as to place his life in danger:— Dark blue eyes, rather hooked nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair, wore a hard hat, black coat, gray trowsers, and dark vest; is a farmer's son. Information sworn and warrant issued for his arrest, which is in the hands of the Sergeant at Keadue. Boyle, 16th September, 1891. ( 11625 o.— 93154.) Description of EUGENE MOORE, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on tHe 17th day of September, 1891, in the barony of Iffa and Ofla East, parish of St. Mary's, stolen a b'ue waterproof overcoat, the property of Mr. John Hurley, Carrick- on- Suir, which has since been recovered: Mark of recent cut on bridge of no- e, light gray eyes, short thick nose, dark sallow complexion, broad face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 87 or 38 > ears of age, dark brown hair; is a horse trainer. Warrant in hands of D. I, Clonmel. Clonmel, 28th Sept., 1891. ( 11888 c.— 93817.) Description of MICHAEL CONNELL ( mother's surname Ryan), native of Knockshanbrittas, who stands charged with having, on the 17th September, 1891, in the barony of Kilnamanagh, Upper, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted Rodger Ryan, by strikiog him on the head with a stone, thereby placing his life in danger;— Marks of sore on left cheek, hardy active appearance, nose sharp, pointed, and turned to one side, narrow mouth with cocked lips, high cheek bones, gray eyes, long thin nose, fresh complexion, shaves all his face except moustache, which is clipped short, dark hair, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 31 years of age; wore a frieze frock coat, tweed trowsers tnl vost; is a farmer's son. Description of MICHAEL STAPLETON ( mother's surname Purcell), native of Gortkelly, and TWO MEN unknown, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1891, in the barony of Eliogarty, parish of Temple- more, seriously assaulted Sergeant Thomas Devany and Constable James Drohan, R. I. C., while in the execution of their duty :— 1. Small sandy side whiskers and moustache, good looking, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 29 years of age, sandy hair; wore a soft black hat, lost ia the row and now in possession of the Police, blae overcoat, and black trowsers and vest. Is a Farmer and returned American. 2. Round shoulders, fresh cut on eyebrow, blue eyes, sandy complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 34 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a soft black hat, brown tweed coat, and black trowsers and vest. 3. Fresh cut on forehead, blue eyes, yellow com- plexion, round faee, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, feir hair; wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, brown trowsers, and black vest. Warrant issued for arrest of No. 1. Templemore, 5th Sept., 1891. ( 11494 a— 93169.) Description of PATRICK DELANEY, native of Holycross, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the lfith day of July, 1891, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, and town of Tipperary, when under arrest for larceny of whiskey from a dwelling, escaped from custody :— Blotches on face, very sharp manner of speaking; gray eyes, very small noee, red complexion, very thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore an old tweed coat, dark trowsers, and old vest; shabby clothes, coat torn on left arm ; is a tramp, Warrant for his arrest with District Inspector, Tipperary. Description of PATRICK DWYER, native of Grovestown, Dundrnm, who stands charged with having, on or about the 4th June 1891, at Ballygur- rane, in the barony of Kilnamanagh, Lower, parish of Oughterleague, stolen four yearling cattle, the pro- perty of Rhody Dwyer, off his farm at Ballygurrane: — Delicate looking, stands erect, shaves all face except slight moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a brown hat with crape band, plaid sack coat, black cloth trousers, plaid vestt is a clerk. JOHN JOSEPH WALSH ( forgery). Hue- and- Cry, 29th Sept, not arrested. ( 10167 c. - 90861.) Wicklow. Description of MICHAEL STACHAM ( mother's surname Byrne), and JAMES HAYES ( mother's surname Waters), natives of Seven Churches, county Wicklow, who stand charged with having, on the ni^ bt of 5th or m ruing of 6th August, 1891, in the barony of Ballinacor North, parish of Derrylossary, end county Wicklow, stolen two scythes, the property of John Richardson and Richard Johnston, both of Laragh East:— 1. Blue eyes, regular nose, rather pale complexion, round face, stout make, shaves all his face which is very small, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 22 years o' age, dark brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, light tweed trowsers and vest. 2. Blue eyes, long thin noie, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, shaves his face except moustache, which is very small and light colour. 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age s wore a dark serge sack coat, light tweed trowsers and vest. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening of Sunday, 6th September, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, connty Wicklow :— MICHAEL KELLY, 2399, about 16 years of age, about 5 feet high, ordinary make, fair and freckled com- plexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, round visage, " M. K." tattooed on left arm, and " M." on back of left hand; formerly belonged to 8, Clarence- place, oft Great Clarence- street, Dublin; his parents reside at 26, Hamver- lane, east, Dublin. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, moleskin trowsers, strong nailed boots, No. 2399. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with XI. 7th September, 1891, ( 123 H. c.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening ot Sunday, 6th September, 1 absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— PATRICK MAY, No. 2300, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, ordinary make, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; one front upper tooth growing inwards. Formerly belonging to Balrothery, Tallaght ( at Lawlor's, Timmon); sister resides at 102, Bride- street, Dublin. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, moleskin trowsers, strong nailed boots, No. 2300. Is a shoemaker; can play well cn a flute, and will enlist in the army if possible. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 7th September, 1891. ( 423 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening of Sunday, 6th September, 1891, absconded from the Saint Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— PATRICK CONDRON, 2313, aboit 18 or 19 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout make, Very red and fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, thick nofe. ordinary month, round visage, blue dots on right hand and wrist; formerly belonged to 3, Merchants'- quay, Dublin; his parents are dead. The School dre- s, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of: Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, moleskin trowsers, strong nailed boots, No. 2313. Will probably endeavour to enlist or leave the country. Does not appear to be quite sane sometimes. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of Lis conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the pereon who may capture him with £ 1. 7th September, 1891. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5th August, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School, at Glencree :— WILLIAM FLOOD ( 2,286), about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, ordinary make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, regular nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to 161, Townsend- street, Dublin, parents reside at same place s mark 8 of sores on his neck. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, con- sists of gray tweed trowsers, blue serge tunic, blue serge cap ( the band uniform, trimmed with white braid), elastic- side boots, No. 2,286. Some time ago his uncle, Thomas Matthews, a sail- maker, resided at 16, Lower Gloucester- street, Dublin. Absconded with John Nolan and Owen Reilly. The three hoys belonged to the band. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 6th August, 1891. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. 6 Division. Description of GEORGE BATES, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 1st inst., embezzled the sum of £ 6, the property of Messrs. Johnson and Oughton, Leinster- street, Dublin, Stationers and Newsagents:— 20 years of age, 5 feet inches high, brown hair, dark complexion, no beard, whiskers, or moustache, brown eyes, slight build, smart active appearance, good looking; dressed when last seen in old lounge suit of brown tweed, may now be wearing a blue overcoat, with velvet collar. Was heard to express his intention of going to Belfast. Warrant in the hands of Chief Superintendent. 7th September, 1891. ( 422 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM GEORGE FRAZER, c 28, convicted at Ennis killen Quarter Sessions, on 18th November, 1885, for obtaining money under false pretences ( 4 counts), and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 23 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a servant, prison trade a tailor, born near Nenagh, his friends reside in Roscrea:— Fair hair, brown eyes, light Irown eyebrows, regular and long nose, large mouth, prominent under- lip, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet inches high ; small flesh mark on left wpqMtit- scar back of head, calf of left leg ulcerated. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Convict Prison on 18th May, 1891, and went to reside in Roscrea, county Tipperary, from whence he THE POLICE GAZETTE. He has recently left his Dublin lodgings without notifying his change of residence to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the Ath section of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. 23rd July, 1891. ( 410 Ha) Licensed Convict WILLIAM MURRAY, Hue- and- Cry, 29th September, has not been arrested. ( 416 H. c.) ENGLISH POLICE. Sussex. Description of a man, supposed nsme BARTER, native place unknown, charged with larceny of jewellery from lodgingbouse ( for description see property stolen):— About 25 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches bigh, fair complexion, brown hair and moustache, very bright eyes colour unknown, pointed chin, bas gcod appearance and address; dressed in a black hard felt hat, brown tourist's suit, and lace boots. Left behind him a brown leather portmanteau fastened with a brass padlock, and a new small- sised Gladstone bag, nickle lock and end fastenings, containing a small common American cloth hand- bag and two metal electric light globe ornaments, shape of tulip, an iron case opener, and a small saw in handle. Police Office, Eastbourne, 28th September, 1891. ( 430 H. C.) SCOTCH POLICE. Stirlingshire. Wanted, for theft of a watch and a vest ( recovered); Also a silver Albert chair, round links ( not recovered), on 21st current :— HUGH ANDREWS, a painter ti trade, but working as a labourer, about 2S years of sga, 5 feat 8 inches bigh, stout make, fresh complexion, reddish fair hair, sandy noustache, and small side wlrskers ; dressed in yellow striped trowws, blue clcth vest, heather mixture cloth jacket, light single peaked cap, and old lacing boots. His wife is said to reside in South Side, Glasgow, and he is said to have been a member of a Good Templar Lodge in that district. Please cause search and inquiry to be made for the above- described person, and, if found, to apprehend and communicate with the sibscriber. Thos. FERGUSON, Superintendent of Police. Description of plate, the property of Ardnurcher Parish, which was stolen from the Protestant Church at Horseleap, parish of Ardnurcher, barony of Moy- cashel, on the 28th or 29th day of August, 1891, probably by tinkers:— One large flagon, supposed silver, broad at bottom, tapering to top, side straight, had a lid, handle, and spout, no inscription; one chalice, gold lined, no inscription, goblet- shaped, similar to a large wine- glass, supposed silver, but may be plated; one paten, pupposed silver, may be plated, has a raised bottom of about two inches, siza of a breakfast plate, inscribed" Ardnurcher Church "; cne alms- dish, very small, silver, quite flat, with a rim, inscribed " Horse- leap Church, 1806. A. O." on shield; lady's plain gold ring with receptacle for hair; gold brooch, with braided hair in centre, " in memory of" engraved round it; nearly new gold broach, oval shape, opal in centre, hair at the back, round the brooch is engraved Grecian or key pattern; sis gold trinkets in a bunch, viz., cross, heart, locket with hair inside, two keys, seal with " S." thereon, and a . gilt foarpenny piece; two silver table spoons, marked initial " M."; lady's silver sleeve links, chased, oval shape; pair of plain round silver solitaires; pair of silver earrings, round balls pattern; pair of gold ear- rings, three drops in a row, the middle one longer than either side one; £ 11 in gold, or ts. in silver* and a quantity of coppers.
