THE Police OR HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday.' RHGTTLATIOIffS. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary Dublin Castle, authenticated, by a Separate Communication. No Description caa be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn : but it is not neceasau- y to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. ' Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of ttii nature unless they have the " Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears aa without thla Information the mistake cannot be rectified. ' Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested' to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the tbolition Pf Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Ciy " no longer necessary. ROBERT MEHAFFEY, 13 years of age, brown hair, gray eyes, gray eyebrows, sharp nose, small moutb, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 4 feet 8 inches high; is a labourer; born at Belfast; his parents reside at 16, Matier- street, Belfast. Dressed when he absconded in Glengarry cap, moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, blna and white striped shirt, red and black check tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. 2. JOHN BURROWS, 15 jeers o! age, dark hair, pray eyes, dark eyebrows, regular nose, regular month, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 4 feet 9 inches high ; is a labourer; born at Barrow, England ; his parents reside at 18, Island- street, Belfast; his grandmother, Sarah J. Campbell, lives at 25, Hamilton- place, on Albert Bridge- road; his grandfather, J. Burrows, lives in Main- street, Bangor; his aunt, Jane Clarke, lives in Mountpottinger- road, Belfast. Dressed when he absconded in Glengarry cap, moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, bine and white striped shirt, red and black check tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of their conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Jnstice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture them with £ 1 each. 24th September, 1891. Description of the undernamed yonng offender, who, on the 11th September, 1891, absconded from the Alalone Reformatory School at Belfast :— HUGH BELL, 16 years of age, brown hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, large month, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, scrofula^ marks on left side of neck, chicken- chested ; is a farm boy ; formerly belonged to Clifton- street, Belfast, where he was born; his parents reside at 86, Boundry- street; his uncle, George Bell, Farmer, lives at Ballykeel, Dromore, county Down. Dressed when he absconded in a Glengarry cap' dark tweed jacket, trowsers, and vest, blue and white striped shirt, red and black chock tie, Blucher boots, and woollen stockings. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Jostice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 17th September, 1891. ( 425 H. O.) ANDREW GRAHAM ( young offender), Hue- and- Cry, 23rd Jane, not arrested. ( 393 H. C.) Belfast. Description of EDWARD S. W. DE COBAIN, native of Belfast, who stands charged that he did, within the past two years, at Belfast, commit an act of gross indecency with another male person, and within the same time, and at the place aforesaid did incite divers other male persons to commit sodomy:— Walks erect, square shoulders, corpulent, contracts eyebrows when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, full face, stont make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a silk hat, black Chesterfield overcoat, black frock coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest; is a Member of Parliament. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Detective Department, Belfast, to whom information should be sent. NOTE— Arrest cannot be legally made without Warrant. Belfast, lfith April, 1891. Carlow MICHAEL TIMMINS ( serious assault), Hue- and- Cry, 23rd June, not arrested. ( 8204 c— 88166.) Cavan. Description of A BOY, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd August, 1891, in barony of Tullygarvey, parish of Kildrumsheridan, stolen a heifer calf, the property of Sarah M'Quillan, of Drumhose Rather stout make, 18 years of age; dark coat, trowsers, and vest; carried a whip, with two or three brass bands. Description of CHRISTOPHER M'DONALD, native place unknown, who stands charged with hav- ing, on the 2nd of March, 1891, in the barony of Imokilly, parish of Ardagh, unlawfully and by false and fraudulent pretences, obtained from one Francis Jervois, Esq,, the sum of three pounds and three shillings:— Red eyes, regular nose, frosh complexion, fat face, very stont make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 63 years of age, brown hair turning gray and cut short; wore a two- peaked tweed cap, light ttriped tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, anj dark tweed vest; is a Ploughman. Warrant has been issued, and is in the hands of the District Inspector at Youghal. Youghal, 25th August, 1891. ( 11237 C.— 92828.) Description of TIMOTHY DRISCOLL, native of Drimoleague, who stands charged with having, on the 7th and 8th June, 1891, in the barony of E. D. W. Carbery, parish of Drimoleague, attacked the dwell- ing- house of Denis M'Carthy, ol Bownahulla, by throwing stones at it, which broke three panes of glass, one of the stones which were thrown striking Denis M'Carthy in the face and wounding him:— Gray eyes, regular nose, dark sallow complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a pray cap, gray twoed coat, brown trousers, gray tweod vest; is a labourer. Description of WILLIAM WILSON, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 21st September, 1891, in the barony of Upper Castlereagh, parish of Drumbo, stolen a suit of clothes, a pair of shoes, a cap, and £ 3 in single notes, from the dwelling- house of one John Bourke, and with having broken out therefrom:— Sore on back of right hand, scab on left cheek, red cheeks, stoppage in speech, blue eyes, sharp nose, fresh complexion, fresh face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches higb, about 26 years of age, very fair hair; wore a blue cap, dark tweed coat, striped tweed trowsers, and dark tweed vest, Lorne shoes, being the clothes stolen ; is a labourer. Information has been sworn. Newtownards, 23rd Sept., 1891. ( 11791 c.— 93666J Description of JOHN TINNELLY ( mother' surname Hollywood), native of Rostrevor, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd August, 1891, in the barony of Iveagh Upper, parish of Clcnallon, seriously assaulted one Arthur George Stacey of Rostrevor:— Smart active appearance, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long tbin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark moustache, shaved ' face, dark hair; wore a dark coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest. Is a Baker. Warrant issued. Rathfriland, 26th August, 1891. ( 11305 c.— 92855.) Gal way. Description of PATRICK ODLUM, native of Banagher, King's County, who standi charged with having, on the 5th day of Angust, 1891, in the barony of Longford, parish of Killimorbollogue, embezzled the sum of £ 10 121. Ad. the property f John Hannon, Esq., j. p., Banagher, King's County:— Swaggering R< it, was in the army, sallow coroplex'on, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of 8ga, fair hair, slight moustache; wore a dark coat; is a van driver. Description of JOHN or MICHAEL LAWLOR, native of Limerick city, who stands charged with having, iu the month of January, 1891, in the barony of Kells, parish of Killamory, stolen a watch, the property of Michael Lonergan, of Roscon, which has been sirce recovered:— Blind in one eye probably the right). cut- mark on ear, regular nose, yellow com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, ahoct 3 > years of age; woie a s> ft h.- t, tweed coat, trow sera. * nd vest; is a tra- oping laHnnrer. Description of the undernamed ycung offender, who, on the 20th September, 1891, absconded from tie Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County:— WILLIAM LAWLER, No. 1171, 19 yews of nge. about 5 feet inches high, medium make, fits'l complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visigf : three dots, cross, und small stroke cn left arm, scald on back of heal; formerly belonged to Dub'in; his mother, Jane Lawler, resides at 3, Banelagh- avenue, Dublin. Tie dress consists of:— Black hard felt hat, mole- skin trousers, navy blua eerge jacket and vest. blucher boots. Description of PATRICK DOUGAN ( mother's sur- name O'Neill) native of Rocktown, who stands charged with having, on the 2 th day of June, 1891, in the barony of Loughinshollin, parish of Maghera, com- mitted an aggravated assault upon one Robert Porter:— Shaves^ all his face except moustache, which is dark und cut short i dark eyes, regular ncsfl, dark com- plexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches hi( ih, aboot 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a darkish gr8y coat, dark trowsers and vest, and hard black iiat; is A farm labourer. Longford Description of PATRICK NOON, ex convict, native place unknown, who stands charged wiih having in his pot session, on the 19th Septsmbar, 1891, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Temple- michael, articles of wearing apparel, for which he was unable to account sat sfactorily, and it is believed they have been stolen:— A man's shirt, linen breasted ; 9 boj B' shirts ( 8 white and 1 blu « ); 4 chemises, 2 white pocket handkeri hiefs ; 5 bibs, 2 large white, I small with lace all roond and crochet work in ctntre ; 2 tmall white bibs, 1 Urge blue bib, 3 white aprons, 1 blue check upr. n, 1 twilled calico towel, 2 white twilled calico pillow covers, 1 deep blue striped apron, 2 red and white pocket handkerchiefs, 4 pair of s ockings, 1 o'd snuff- coloured cap, 1 white calico btg, 1 blay- colcured child's bib j all suppos d to have been stolen off hedges. His description is as fol- lows:— Bald on top of head, hazel ejes, small flat nose, sallow complexion, small face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, and about 69 years of age, dark hair turning gray; is a dealer. This man is remanded pending inquiries. Any information regarding his antecedents or the ownership of the clothing to be addressed to the Dis- trict Inspector. Longford, » 5th Sept., 1891. Roscommon. g Description of PATRICK TANSEY ( mother's surname Doherty), native of Churchacre, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 8th September, 1891, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Kilronsn, assaulted one Patrick M'Greevy, so as to place his life in danger:— Dark blue eyes, rather hooked nose, pale complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inch s high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard hat, black caat, gray trowsers, and dark vests is a farmer's son. Information sworn and warrant issued for bis arrest, which is in the hands of the Sergeant at Keadue. Boyle, 16th Septomber, 1891. ( 11625 o.— 93154.) JOHN DALY ( homicide), Hue- and- Cry, 22nd May, has not been arrested. ( 9247 c.— 89331.) Tipperary. Description of MICHAEL CONNELL ( mother's surname Ryan), native of Knockshanbrittas, who stands charged with having, on the 17th September, 1891, in the barony of Kilnamanagh, Upper, parish of Doon, seriously assaulted Rodger Ryan, by striking him on the head with a stoni, thereby placing his life in danger;— Marks of sore on left cheek, hardy active appearance, nose sharp, pointed, and turned to one side, narrow mouth with cocked lips, high cheek bone.?, gray eyes, long thin nose, tresh complexion, shaves all his face except moustache, which is clipped short, d- rk hair, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 31 years of age; wore a frieze frock coat, tweed trowsers an! v > st; is a farmer's son. Description of MICHAEL STAPLETON ( mother's surname Purcell), native of Gortkelly, and TWO MEN unknown, native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 3rd September, 1891, in the barony of Eliogarty, pariah of Temple- more, seriously assaulted Sergeant Thomas Devany ani Constable James Drohan, R. I. C., while in the execution of their duty :— 1. Small sandy side whiskers and moustache, good looking, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 29 years of age, sandy hair; wore a soft black hat, lost ia the row and now in possession of tho Police, blue overcoat, and black trowaers and vest. Is a Farmer and returned American. 2. Round shoulders, fresh cat on eyebrow, blua eyes, sandy complexion, round face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 34 years of ago, sandy hair ; wore a soft black hat, brown tweed coat, and black trowsers and vest. 3. Fresh cut cn forehead, blue eyes, yellow com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair 5 wore a soft black hat, dark tweed coat, brown trowsers, and black vest. Warrant issued for arrest of No. 1. Templemore, 5th Sept., 1891. ( 11494 0.— 93169.) Description of PATRICK DELANEY, native of Holycross, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the lfith day of July, 1891, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, and town of Tipperary, when under arrest for larcony of whiskey from a dwelling, escaped from custody :— Blotches on face, very sharp manner of epeating; gray eyes, very small nore, red complexion, very thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore an old tweed coat, dark trowsers, and old vest; shabby clothes, coat torn on left arm; is a tramp, Warrant for his arrest with District Inspector, Tipperary. Description of PATRICK DWYER, native of Grovestown, Dundrum, who stands charged with having, on or about the 4th June 1891, at Ballygur- rane, in the barony of Kilnamanagh, Lower, parish of Oughterleague, stolen four yearling cattle, the pro- perty of Rhody Dwyer, off his farm at Ballygurrane: — Delicate looking, stands erect, shaves all face except slight moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, dark com plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair ; wore a brown hat with crape band, plaid sack coat, black cloth trousers, plaid vest; is a clerk. Warrant issued for his arrest. Dundrum, 9th June, 1891. ( 9785 c.— 90182.) JOHN ROYCE and MICHAEL SULLIVAN ( larceny), Hae- and- Cry, 8 th September, not arrested. ( 11148 c— 92603) Waterford. Description of JOHN JOSEPH WALSH, native of Knocknacreha, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd June, 1891, in the barony of Upperthird, parish of Rathgormac, forged his father's name, Matthias Walsh, to a cheque for the sum of £ 12, which he stole, and cashed in the Carrick- on- Suir National Bank on the same day:— Small red spot on side of nose close to eye, blue eyes, short nose, fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 2 or S inches high, about 15 years of age, looks older, light brown hair; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest darker than coat, but is suspected of having got new clothes. He is suspected of having sailed for America, and if not gone, will probably try to go. Warrant issued for his arrest. Portlaw, 29th June, 1891. ( 10167 c.— 90861.) Westmeath. Description of MICHAEL STACHAM ( mother's surname Byrne), and JAMES HAYES ( mother's surname Waters), natives of Seven Churches, county Wicklow, who stand charged with having, on the night of 5th ormrroingof 6 th August, 1891, in the barony of Ballinacor North, parish of Derrylossary, and county Wicklow, stolen two scythes, the property of John Richardson acd Richard Johnston, both of Laragh East:— 1. Blue eyes, regular nose, rather pale complexion, round face, stout make, shaves all his face which is very small, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, light tweed trowsers and vest. 2. Blue eyes long thin nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, shaves his face excipt moustache, which is very small and light colour. 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 22 or 23 years of age » wore a dark serge sack coat, light tweed trowsers and vest. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening of Sunday, 6th September, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, connty Wieklow :— MICHAEL KELLY, 2399, about 16 years of age, about 5 feet 1 igh, ordinary make, fair and freckled com- plexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary coje, ordinary mouth, round visage, " M. K." tattooed on left arm, and " M." on back of left hand; formerly belonged to 8, Clarence- place, off Great Clarence- street, Dublin; his parents reside at 26, Hanover- lane, east, Dublin. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, moleskin trowuers, strong nailed boots, No. 2399. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 7th September, 1891. ( 423 H. c.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening of Sunday, 6th September, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— PATRICK MAY, No. 2300, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, ordinary make, sallow com- plexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; one front upper tooth growing iowards. Formerly belonging to Balrothery, Tallaght ( at Lawlor's, Timmon); sister resides at 102, Bride street, Dublin. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy jacket, moleskin trowsers, strong nailed boots, No. 2300. Is a shoemaker; can play well cn a flute, and will enlist in the army if possible. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 7th September, 1891. ( 423 B. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the evening of hunday, 6th September, 1891, absconded from the Saint Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— PATRICK CONDRON, 2313, about 18 or 19 years of age, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, stout make, very red and fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, thick noie, ordinary mouth, round visage, blue dote on right hand and wrist; formerly belonged to 3, Merchants'- quay, Dublin; his parents are dead. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap ( Scotch make), corduroy, jacket, moleskin trowsers, strong nailed boots, No. 2313. Will probably endeavour to enlist or leave the country. Does not appear to be quite sane sometimes. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of bis conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 7th September, 1891. ( 423 h. c. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OB HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1891. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM GEORGE FRAZER, c 23, convicted at Ennis- killen Quarter Sessions, on 18th November, 1885, for obtaining money under false pretences ( 4 counts), and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 23 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a servant, prison trade a tailor, born near Nenagh, his friends reside in Roecrea:— Fair hair, brown eyes, light trown eyebrows, regular and long nose, large mouth, prominent under- lip, fre3h complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 3} inches high; small flesh mark on left arm, cut- scar back of head, calf of left leg ulcerated. This man was released on licence from Mountjoy Convict Prison on 18th May, 1891, and went to reside in Roscrea, county Tipperary, from whence he moved to 29 City- quay, Cublin, on 19th June. He has recently left his Dublin lodgings without notifying his cbange of residence to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under the 5th section of the Act 31 and 35 Vie., cap. 112. 23rd July, 1891. ( 410 Ha) SCOTCH POLICE. Stirlingshire. War ted, for theft of a watch and a vast ( recovered)} also a silver Albert chain rouhd links ( not recovered), on 2 Ut current:— HUGH ANDREWS, a painter to trade, but working as a labourer, about 21 years of eg » , 5 feet 3 inches high, stout made, fresh complexion, reddish fair bair, sandy moustcche, and fmall side wlrsVers ; dressed in yellow striped trowsers, blue cloth vest, heather mixture cloth jacket, light single peaked cap, and old lacing boots. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5th August, 1891, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School, at Glencree :— WILLIAM FLOOD ( 2,286), about 17 or 18 yews of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, ordinary make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, regular nose, ordinary month, oval visage; formerly belonged to 161, Townsend- street, Dublin, parents reside at same place} marks of sores en his neck. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, con- sists of gray tweed trowsers, blue serge tunic, blue serge cap ( the band uniform, trimmed with white braid), elastic- side boots, No. 2,286. Some time ago his uncle, Thomas Matthews, a sail- maker, resided at 16, Lower Gloucester- street, Dublin. Absconded with John Nolan and Owen Reilly. The three boys belonged to the band. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 6th August, 1891. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison, on licence, 9th July, 1891, and went to Cork. He left his residence on 11th instant without reporting to R. I. C., and his present whereabouts is unknown.
