- Police THEU Gazette 9 OR Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday; KEOTILATIOARI All Notices intended for insertion in the Huo- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn : but it is not neceasmrr to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. ' . Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been Issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of Mm nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. ° Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears as without thla information the mistake cannot be rectified. ' Prison and Polios Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. DE COBAIN, native of Belfast, who stands charged that he did, within the past two years, at Belfast, commit an act of gross indeoency with another male person, and within the same time, and at the place aforesaid did incite divers other male persons to commit sodomy:— Walks erect, square shoulders, corpulent, contracts Eyebrows when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a silk hat, black Chesterfield overcoat, black frock coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest; is a Member of Parliament. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Detective Department, Belfast, to whom information should be sent. NOTE Arrest cannot be legally made without Warrant. Belfast, 15th April, 1891. Description of A BOY, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd August, 1891, in barony of Tnllygaivey, parish of Kildrumsheridan, stolen a heifer calf, the property of Sarah M'Quillan, of Drumhose:— Rather stout make, 18 years of age; dark crat, trowsers, and vest; carried a whip, with two or three brass bands. , Bailieboro', 26th Aug., 1891. ( 11339 c.— 92903.) • Description of PATRICK O'HARA alias JAMES KELLY, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th August, 1891, in the barony of Tullygarvey, parish of Drumeoon, been found nnder suspicious circumstances, ard failed to answer satisfactorily for the possession of five pawn tickets for watches which he pawned in Cavan, under the name of James Kelly, and one brace and bit, which he pawned in Cootehill, nnder tho name of Pat O'Hara:— Diminutive appearance, right shoulder dislocated so as to cause a hump, short neck, bald on top of head; small dark eyes, sharp nosa, dark sallow complexion, long face, {- light make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 46 years of ago, dark brown hair and moustache, turning gray; wore a datk stuff coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a tramp, looks like a tailor. This man is suspected of having committed burglarUs or larcenies elsewhere, and is remanded for inquiries to 15th instant. Any information to be addressed to District Inspector, Bailieboro'. Description of CHRISTOPHER M'DONALD, native place unknown, who stands efcarged with hav- ing, on the 2nd of March, 1891, in the barony of Imokilly, parish of Ardagh, unlawfully and by false and fraudulent pretences, obtained from one Francis Jervois, Esq., the sum of three pounds and three shillings:— Red eyes, regnlar no? e, fresh complexion, fat face, very stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 63 years of age, brown tair turning gray and cut short; wore a two- peaked tweed cap, light striped tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a Ploughman. Warrant has been ispued, and is in the hands of the District Inspector at Youghal. Youghal, 25th August, 1891. ( 112S7 C.— 92828.) Description of TIMOTHY DRISCOLL, nativo of Drimoleague, wbo stands charged with having, on the 7th and 8th Juno, 1891, in the barony of E. D. W. Carbery, parish of Drimoleague, attacked the dwell- ing- house of Denis M'Carthy, of Bownahulla, by throwing stones at it, which broke three panes of glass, one of the stones which wero thrown striking Denis M'Carthy in the face and wounding him:— Gray eyes regplar nose, dark sallow complexion, regnlar face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a gray cap, gray tweed coat, brown trousers, gray tweed vest; is a labourer. Donegal Description of THOMAS FERRY, native of Darry City, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd day of Juno, 1891, in the barony of Raphoe, parish of Killed, committed a rape on Margaret Rankin, of Kildrum- Square shoulders, walks erect, dark mou- stache, dark eye", straight nose, long face, medium make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 28 years of age, black hair cut short; wore a tweed cap, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer; a returned Ameri- can. Description of JOHN TINNELLY ( mother's surname Hollywood), native of Rostrevor, who stands chargcd with having, on tho 23rd August, 1891, in the barony of Iveagh Upper, parish of Clonallon, seriously assaulted one Arthur George Stacey of Rostrevor:— Smart active appearance, dark eyes, regular nosa, dark complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark moustache, shaved face, dark hair; were a dark coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest. Description of PATRICK ODLUM, nativo of Banagher, King's County, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day oi August, 1891, in tha barony of Longford, parish of Killimorbollogue, embezzled the sum of £ 10 12*. 4d., the property of John Hannon, Esq., J. P., Banagher, King's County:— Swaggering gait, was in the army, sallow complexion, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 years of 8gs, fair hair, slight moustache; wore a dark coat; is a van driver. Description of JOHN BURKE, native placo unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of June, 1891, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, stolen a lady's silver Geneva watch and silver Albert chain, and also a suit of dark tweed clothe*, which he is supposed to be wearing—' be may pawn the watch:— Visible cut- marks on head and about eyes and nose, four teeth out of left side of mouth, gray eyes, broad nose, fresh complexion, full faee, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair, dark moustache; wore a hard black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a private, York and Lancaster Regiment. Description of PATRICK DOUGAN ( mother's sur- name O'Neill) native of Rocktown, who stands charged with having, on the 23th day of June, 18^ 1, in the barony of Loughinshollin, parish of Maghera, com mitted an aggravated assault upon one Robart Porter:— Shaves all his face except moustache, which is dark and cut short i dark eyes, regular nosa, dark com- plexion, full face, stoat make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, abont 23 years of age, dark hair ; wore a darkish gray coat, dark trowsers and vest, and hard black nat; is a farm labourer. Description of THOMAS ROONEY, native of Killybearn, who stands charged with having, on the 16th May, 1891, in the barony of Loughinsholin, parish of Derryloran, committed ( with others made amenable) an aggravated assault on one Alexander Hagan:— High cheek bones, good- looking, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, gray trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a farmer's son. Description of MURPHY ( supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the night of the 11th or morning of the 12th June, 1891, in the barony of Lower Duleek, parish of Julianstown, burglariously entered the dwelling- house of John Brangan, of Menistown, and stolen therefrom a silver lever hunting watch ( No. 5449), a pair of elastic boots, muchiworn about the toes, a pair of boy's boots nearly new, an old gray dust cpat, and two (" is.) ia silver:— Stout make, 6 feet .7 inches high, about 45 years of age, wore all liis beard, which u dark brown; wore a scotch cap, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a tramp. Description of JOHN SULLIVAN supposed flctnuus), native of Toornafulla, county Limerick, j who has been arrested on the charge of having, on the 17th August, 1891, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Monsea, feloniously fet fire to twenty- five cocks of hay, the property of J. Poe, Esq., Riverston, Nenagh:— Large whitish eyes, large nose, pale complex'on, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair turning gray ; wore a long bl'ack worn coat turning green. At present in Limerick Gaol cn remand. Asthis tramp may have committed offences elsewhere inquiry should be made about his antecedents, and report sent to District Inspector at Nenagh. Broad stooped shoulders, speaks with a slight Kerry accent, tender gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inctcs high, about 40 years of a^ e, small dark sicie whisker* and moustache, dark hair; wore a hard black hat, old brown tweed coat, tweed trowsers, mended on knees, and tweed vest; is a labourer. 2. High cheek bones, blue eye], rather short nose, fair complexion, full round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 or £ 0 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft black hat, brown tweed coat, brown tweed torn trowsars, and dark tweed vest; is a labourer. Tipperary, 17th Angust, 1891. ( 11148 c— r- 2603) Description of THOMAS RYAN ( DANEHER), native of Moher, who stands charged with having, on the 5th August, 1891, in the barony of Kilnamanagh Upper, { arish of Toena, seriously assaulted one William English, by striking him with a stone over the left eye, knocking him down, and ki king him, thereby placing his life in danger:— Down- looking treacherous appear- ance, keeps his hands in trowsers pockets, brown eyes, regu'. ar nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 24 or 25 years of age, dark brown hair, no beard or whiskers, small black moustache; wore a bright tweod sack coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer. ( 10359 c — 92283) Description of PATRICK DELANEY, native of Holycross, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of July, 1891, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, and town of Tipperary, when under arrest for larceny of whiskey from a dwelling, e& caped from custody :— Blotches on face, very sharp manner of speaking; gray eyes, very small nose, red complexion, very thin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore an old tweed coat, dark trowsers, and old vest; shabby clothes, coat torn on left arm; is a tramp, Warrant for his arrest with District Inspector, Tipperary. Description of PATRICK DWYER, native of Grovestown, Dundrum, who stands charge! with having, on or about the 4th June. 1891, at Ballygur rane, in the barony of Kilnamanagh, Lower, parish of Oughterlcague, stolen four yearling cattle, the pro- perty of Rhody Dwyer, off his farm at Ballygurrane: — Delicate looking, stands erect, shaves all face excapt slight moustache, dark eyes, regular no3e, dark com- plexion, thin faco, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a brown hat with crape band, plaid sack coat, black cloth trousers, plaid vest; is a clerk. Warrant issued for his arrest. Dundrum, 9th June, 1891. ( 9785 c.— 90182.) Description of JOHN O'CONNOR, native of county Waterford, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of May, 1891, in the barony of Iffa and Offa East, parish of Templetenny, embezzled the sum of £ 3 17*. Ad.:— Slightly prominent teeth, dark brown eyes, slightly hooked nose, ruddy complexion, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 47 years of age, black hair tinged with gray : wore an old blue serge coat, trowsers, and vest, and an old greasy one- peaked cap; wore a short dirty sandy moustache. Shaves his face, but not oftener than once a week. Served 11 years in tho army, and does not appear to be all right in his head; is a labourer. Informations sworn end warrant issued for arrest. Description of JOHN KELLY, native of King's County, who stands charged with having, on the 5th or 6th day of May, 1891, in the barony of Ikerrin, parish of Corbally, stolen from the house of Mathew Mara, at Gortnacally, £ 5 2s., and also a suit of tweed clothes and a penknife:— Down- looking, and spo's or pimples on face, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complex- ion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, light brown hair; wore a hard hat, blue serge coat, and tweed trowsers ; is a labourer ( has a flute, which he plays well). Description of JOHN JOSEPH WALSH, native of Knocknacreha, who stands charged Kjtfc having, on the 23rd June, 1891, in the barony ot Upperthird, parish of Rathgormac, forged his father's name, Matthias Walsh, to a cheque for the sum of £ 12, which he stole, and cashed in the Carrick- on- Suir National Bank on the same day:— Small red spot on side of nose close to eye, blue eyeB, short nose, fair complexion, round face, very stout make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 15 years of age, looks older, light brown hair; wore a light tweed coat, tweed trowsers and vest darker than coat, but is suspected of having got new clothes. He is suspected of having sailed for America, and if not gone, will probably try to go. Warrant issued for his arrest Portlaw, 29th June, 1891. ( 10167 c.— 90861.) Westmeath. Description of WILLIAM BYRNE, native of Taghmon, who stands charged with having, on the night of 4 th or morning of 5th instant, in the barony of Shelmalier West, parish of Taghmon, burglariously entered the licensed premises of James Keating, Tagh- mon, and stolen therefrom the sum of £ 11 9s. Id.:— Blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 23 or 24 years ol age, looks youoger, brown hair; wore a jerry hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer and discharged soldier. EDWARD GRANNELLS ( indecent assault), Hue- and- Cry, 20th March, not arrested. ( 6878 c— 8506.) PATRICK KELLY, alias MOFFAT ( indecent assault), Hue- and- Cry, 24th February, not arrested. ( 7017c 85272.) Wicklow. Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 5th August, 1891, absconded from the Ft. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— OWEN REILLY ( 2,339), about 18 or 19 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 6 feet 4 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blae eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, round visage; formerly belonged to Santry, county Dublin; parents dead ; a heart tattooed on right forearm; wants last joint of little finger, left jj^ nd. His brother, James Reilly, resides at 35, Commons- street, Dublin; his brother, William Reilly, at Forest, Cloghran, county Dublin; his sister in High Park Reformatory, Drumcondra ; and his aunt, Mary Reilly, at Straffan, county Kildare. The school dress, all with the Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Gray tweed troweers, blue serge tuni blue s- rge cap, strong nailed boots, No. 2,33 The band uniform with white braid on cap and tunic. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of bis conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture- him with £ 1. 6th August, 1891. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5th Angust, 1891, absconded from the St Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— JOHN NOLAN ( 2,310), about 18 or 19 years of age, looks younger, 5 feet 1 or 2 inches high, stout mako, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, large nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to 2<">, Townsend street, Dubl'n; parents reside at 28, Moss- street, Dublin; large dinge or hollow on top cf his head. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, con- sists of gray tweed trowsers, blue serge tunic, blue serge cap ( the band uniform, trftnmeid with white braid), strong nailed boots, No. S310. Absconded with William Flood and Owen Reilly. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5th August, 1891, absconded from the St Kevin's Reformatory School, at Glencree WILLIAM FLOOD ( 2,286), about 17 or 18 yetrs of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high', ordinary make, tresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, regular nose, ordinary mcuth, oval visage; formerly belonged to 161, Townsend- street, Dublin, parents reside at stme place ; marks of sores on his neck. s THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1891. Some time ago his uncle, Thomas Matthews, a Bail- maker, reside 1 at 16, Lower Gloucester- street, Dublin. Absconded with John Nolan and Owen Reilly. The three boys belonged to the band. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 6th August, 1891. ( 414 H. C.) JOHN KELLY ( young offender), Hue- and- Cry, 80th Jane, not arrested. ( 395 H. C.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. Particulars relative lo Convict TIMOTHY HAYES, 0 172, convicted at Cork Quarter Sessions on 15ih October, 1887, for larceny and former conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude 30 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer, born at Cork, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside; fair bair, blue eyes, fair eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, freckled complexion, round visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 2 inches high. Particulars relative to Convict MARY WEIR, B 155, convicted at Enniskillen Quarter Sessions, county Fermanagh, on 18th November, 1885, for larceny, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude :— 43 years of age on conviction, m irried, is a laundress, born at Drumshambo, county Leitrim, resided before conviction at Omagh, where her frit- nds reside; brown hair turning gray, blue eyes, light eyebrows, long nose, large moutb, sallow complexion, round visage, stout make, 6 feet 2J inches high, mark on forehead. This woman was released from Golden Bridge Refuge, on licence, 19th July, 1890, and went to Mohill. She reported lo tae Police at Edge norths- town, on the 31st ult, that she was going to Dromod, county Leitrim, but she has not reported herself at the latter place, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with Under 860. 5 of 34 acd 35 Vic*; Qdp* 112. 20th August, 1691. ( 417 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM MURRAY, C. 126, convicted at Dublin City Com- mission, on 9th February, 1887, fer larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :—. 86 years of age on conviction, married, is a tailor, born at Dublin, resided before conviction at Dublin, where Lis friends reside ; v brown hair, brown eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 4 inches high; ship, W. E. W." on left forearm, ruptured right side, sore mark on right shin. This man was released, on Licence, from Mary- boro' Prison 13th January, 1891, and went to Bel- fft't, which place he left on 15th June last, and his present whereabouts cannot be ascertained. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM GEORGE FRAZER, c 23, convicted at Ennis- killen Quarter Sessions, on 18th November, 1885, for obtaining money under false pretences ( 4 counts), and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude; 23 years of age on conviction, can read and write, is a Roman Catholic, single, is a servant, prison trade a tailor, born near Nenagh, his friends reside in Roscrea :— Fair hair, brown eyes, light Irown eyebrows, regular and long nose, large mouth, prominent under- lip, fresh complexion, ov< al visage, medium make, 5 feet 8^ inches high; sm^ ll flesh mark on left arm, cut- scar back of head, calf of left leg ulcerated. This nimj^ as released on licence from Mountjoy Convict Prison on lyth May, 1891, and went to reside in Roscrea, county Tipperary, fr iu whence he moved to 2J City- quay, dublin, on I9ih June. He has recontly left his Dublin lodgings without notifying his change of rcsid' nee to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Wanted at Chester on a Warrant charging him'with uttering a forged cheque on the 11th August, with intent to defraud:— A man wbo gave the name of Sir WILLIAM SCOTT, Bart., but who, it is believed, has also represented himself to be ARTHUR WILSON. Sir GEORGE WELSH, Sir CHARLES SMYTHE Colonel HECTOR MACKENZIE, Sir R. ELSON, & c. He stayed at a first- clsss hotel for three days, and in discharge of his bill tendered a chequa payable to " Sir William Scott, Bart, or bearer," recaiving the change in cash. The cheque, which purported to be <? rawn upon the Finsbury Park brar ch of the London and South- Western Bank, Limited, by A. Edwards aid Coy., has since been returned marked " no account." Enquiries hat e shown that tha cheque was one of a book of twenty- five obtained by fraud on the 10th July last from the above bonk. One has been uttered at each of the following plac s viz.:— Bangor, Buxton, King's Lynn, Lincoln, Cambridge, & c.
