At: announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them shoulti Ut uaareased to THE JS. DITOU OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought unit be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15. t. per portrait, and of Is. Qd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. . Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank ' h. m Inspector, or analogous thereto. 0. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whicn may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or iit Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. NOTICE. " Scotland Yard, London," has been regis- tered at the General Post Office as the abbreviated address for telegrams for the Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, Criminal Investigation Department, whose offices are now at New Scotland Yard, London, S. W., instead of 21, Whitehall Place. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— A Division.— For stealing £ 7 7s. 3d.— GEORGE GREENFIELD, age 16, height 5 ft. in., thick- set, complexion [ hair and eyes dark; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, dark tweed trousers, light check cricketing cap, lace boots. Fond of riding tricycles. Native of Dereham, Norfolk, where he has friends, and also at Fakenham. Warrant issued. 2. — P Division. — For embezzlement — ARTHUR THOMSON, age 36, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair and whiskers light, very slight cast in one eye; dress, generally, black frock coat, and high silk hat. A commercial traveller, native of Exeter. Last known address, 23, Prospect Park, Exeter. Warrant issued. 3. — P Division. — For embezzlement — RICHARD HASSELL, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion and hair dark, downcast look ; dress, dark overcoat, light undercoat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. A traveller; native of Hackney. 4.— P Division.— For larceny ( servant) — HENRY ELDRID, aee 14, height 4 ft. 11 in, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue ; dress, grey speckled tweed suit, blue wrapper, lace boots, velvet peak cap. A native of Sydenham. May be found with his grandmother Mrs. Belton, near Anchor " public house, Great Wakering, Essex, or at Burrow Green, Teynham, Kent. 5.— P Division.— For threatening to murder — GEORGE GOWER, age 34, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion florid, hair, moustache and side whiskers brown, walks very erect; dress, grey mixture tweed cutaway coat and vest, cord trousers, black hard felt hat. A native of Croydon. Is supposed to be at work, haymaking, in the vicinity of Sevenoaks, Kent. Warrant issued. 6.— R Division.— For obtaining various sums of money, amounting to £ 102, and a gold watch- chain, & c., by fraud— HARRY HOBSON, age 40, height 6 ft., very red face, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, peculiar broad features, large prominent nose, walks with slight stoop, of slovenly appearance; dress, dark coat and vest, grey trousers, low black hat. A native of Melbourne. Warrant issued. 7.— X Division. — For stealing, 8th inst., 4 horses ( since found sold)— GEORGE BAYFORD, age 38, to 40, height5 ft. 3 in., complexion, hair ( parted in centre) and eyes dark, large scar right of neck, high cheek bones, round shoulders, stoops when walking, tender feet; dress, black coat and vest, black hard felt hat, brown or patent leather shoes. Native of Beverley, Torks. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. ANGLESEY. 8.— Beaumaris ( County).— For stealing, on or about 15th ult., £ 15, counterpane, bed sheets, towels, a quantity of wearing apparel, and a large tin box— MARY OWEN, late of 18, Chapel- street, Beaumaris, age 40 ( looks younger), height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue, high Roman nose, wears short dark jacket and thick close veil. Had a girl with her, two years old, light curly hair. Forreceiving the above— WILLIAM WARDLOW. a painter and decorator, late of 62, Brainard- street, Liverpool, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, clean shaven except moustache, high round shoulders, speaks with Gaelic accent. Has a wife and children at Shrewsbury. May be found working at his trade. Supposed native of Stirling or Aberdeen. Warrants issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Anglesey, Beaumaris. BEDFORDSHIRE. 9.— Bedford ( Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences— J. J. WILSON, alias R. CUL- LINGFORD, F. CULLINGFORD, and COLQU- HOUN, age about 55, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion swarthy, hair and heavy moustache dark brown, turning grey, bald top of head, heavy eyebrows; dress, light tweed suit, patent pointed boots, with brown tops, brown hard felt hat; carries a small black hand- bag. Ls wanted at Norwich and other places. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Thody, Bedford. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 10. — Buckingham ( County). — For stealing, 28th ult., at East Cla} rdon, a silver lever watch, seconds hands, nearly new, in metal case; a long silver guard- chain with swivel; 1 pair water- tight boots, square- headed nails in heels and soles, size 9 ( nearly new)— A man, known as THOMAS WHITE, age 40 or 45, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion dark, hair brown, whiskers and moustache about six weeks' growth, round shoulders, carries his head very drooping, lost top of right first finger; dress, old long dark coat, brown tweed trousers, patches on legs, soft black felt hat, piece sewn on top, and the stolen hoots, dirty appearance; a tramping labourer, sleeps in barns, & c., on farms when in work. Native of Slough. Warrant issued. 12.— SlOUgh ( County).— For stealing, 24th ult., at Iver, 1 gold English lever watch, while dial, " ( Hux, Piccadilly " thereon), raised flowers on out- side of case ; 1 gold albert, plain ^- in. links, 2 bars inside links; 1 gold oval locket, Prince of Wales feathers raised on outside, slightly discoloured by a flare of candle; 1 lady's silver geneva watch, pin at bottom of case turning yellow— a woman named BENSON, age 50, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, hair ( turning grey) dark, pointed nose, narrow face, round shoulders, swerves when walking as if from rheumatics, addicted to drink; dress, brown skirt, black mantle, brown velvet bonnet, light bow in front, wears eyeglasses. She engages herself as a lady's companion. Warrant issued. Informaiion to Supt. Sutton, Slough. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 13.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment— FREDERICK DAY, age 29, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout builc1., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes ( large) hazel, round full face; dress, old brown cloth coat, supposed new cotton cord trousers, lace boots, black hard felt hat. Has served in the Suffolk regiment, and now belongs to the Army Reserve. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Innes, Cambridge. LAND, age about 54, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( parted in centre and at back) light brown, moustache and imperial ginger, other- wise clean shaved, rather small sunken eyes, long sharp nose, high forehead, walks erect and with swinging gait; dress, dark cutaway coat and vest, tweed trousers ( all rough material), black hard felt hat, shoes and yellow socks, wore a small gold horse- shoe pin in necktie. A Scotchman. This man stated that he represented Messrs. Wil- son, Jenner & Co., the British Foreign Debt and Accountancy Offices, Finsbury Square Buildings, 1 and 2, Chiswell- street, Finsbury Pavement, ( vide POLICE GAZETTE, Case No. 1, 20th February last). He opened an office in Exeter, and issued circulars, similar to those used by Wilson, Jenner & Co., headed '' J. W. McGregor & Co., Accountants, the Western Counties Accountancy Office, Castle- street, Exeter," offering, through advertisements in local papers, to recover debts and rents. May probably be found attempting to open similar offices in other towns. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Court House, Exeter. CARNARVONSHIRE. 14. — Bangor ( County).— For embezzling £ 60— JAMES KENT, age 32, height 5 ft. 3 in., com- plexion fair, hair light brown, whiskers and moustache cut short, eyes hazel, small made, and narrow shoulders ; dress, black morning coat, brown trousers, black straw bowler hat. Is well- known in North Wales and Cheshire, having travelled in the coal trade. Has been in the employ of Simpson, Davies & Co., of Runcorn. Native of Frodsham, Cheshire. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Roberts, Bangor. CHESHIRE. 15.— Middlewich ( County).— For stealing a pair of boots, an overcoat, and a pipe— MATTHEW WHITNEY, age 54, height 5 ft. 8 in , complexion swarthy, hair turning grey, eyes grey, scar back of head, on chin, and top lip, both ankles deformed, lost all upper tetrth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Plant, Middlewich. CUMBERLAND. 16.— Carlisle ( County).— For deserting his wife and family— JAMES McKUNE, or LARRY, labourer, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, bushy side- whiskers, erect and swagger- ing gait; generally dressed in blue pilot coat, light moleskin trousers, soft billycock hat, or peak cap. When last heard of he was employed on the Man- chester Waterworks, in the neighbourhood of Kendal Native of Kilhead, Dumfriesshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Graham, Carlisle. DORSETSHIRE. 19. — Beaminster ( County). — For stealing cattlo and farm implements ( recovered) to the value of £ 167— ALFRED NORTON, a farmer, age 41, height 5 ft. 9i in , complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, long dark whiskers, which may be cut off; generally dressed in brown mixture suit. A native of Stanton, St. Gabriel's, Dorset. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Freeman, Beaminster. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 23.— Chipping Sodbury ( County). — For office- breaking, 21st ult., at Almondsbury, and steal- ing 4. s'. worth of penny stamps— A man, supposed WILLIAM ROBBINS, or ROBBiNSON, age 35^ to 4 , height 6 ft., complexion swarthy, hair dark brown, eyes dark, long thin neck with large gullet,, springing gait, rolls his eyes when speaking, keeps his teeth closed; dress, black coat, light trousers with brown stripe at sides, hard brown hat, thin lace boots, no vest. A labourer, supposed native of Norfolk. Information to Supt. Critchley, Chipping Sodbury. HEREFORDSHIRE. 24.— Hereford ( County).— For arson, 13th inst. - HENRY BANKS, age 17, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion very freckled, hair light sandy ; dress, brown plaid mixture jacket, brown vest and trousers,, black hard hat, side- spring boots. A labourer; native of Weston Beggard, near Hereford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Smith, Shire Hall, Hereford. DERBYSHIRE. 17. — Ashbourne ( County). — For carnally knowing a girl under the age of 13— WTLLIAM ROLAND RASTRICK, age 26, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair rather sandy, whiskers and moustache sandy, eyes grey, jaunty gait, springs on to his toes, turns right leg inwards; dress, supposed Hack diagonal worsted cloth coat and vest, light cloth trousers, hard brown felt hat, has also dark grey dust coat; a schoolmaster, and educated at Wesley College. Native of Halifax. Warrant issued. Not to be . apprehended out of the United Kingdom at present. Information to Supt. Gill, Ashbourne. DEVONSHIRE. 18.— Exeter ( City).— For larceny ( bailee)— JAMES WALTER McGREGOR, ' alias KEL- ESSEX. 20. — Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing, 1st inst., about £ 6 cash, consisting of 1 jubilee sovereign, 1 jubilee half- sovereign, 1 jubilee half- crown, 1 jubilee shilling, 1 jubilee sixpence, 1 five- shilling piece ( not jubilee), and 1 sovereign dated 1891 ; a white metal chain, glow- worm or snake pattern, with silver padlock attached; 1 pair flannel pants, with red band at top ; 1 white- handled razor, " Addy " supposed thereon ; 1 small razor- strop ; 1 lathering brush ; 1 pair low shoes with toe- caps ( recently soled and heeled) — EDGAR BRAND, alias RICHARDSON, JOHN BARNES, EDGAR RICHARDS, EDWARDS, and WILLIAM KNIGHT, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., com- plexion fair, very sharp, thin features, hair dark brown, slight moustache and side- whiskers, eyes Mue, dog's head tattooed left wrist, 3 dots back of left hand, large dot back of right hand, 2 moles centre of chest; dress, light coat and vest, dark striped trousers, black hard felt hat, and wearing the stolen shoes. Supposed native of Norwich. Was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Chelmsford Sessions, 19th February, 1890, on three charges of larceny at Ilford. 21.— Chelmsford ( County). — For stealing money, at Chelmsford, on 10th ulto.— WILLIAM DAVIS, alias WILLIAM WOODYATT, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes dark, clean shaved, appearance of a groom ; dress, dark cutaway coat and vest, light trousers, old lace boots, black hard felt hat. Sup- posed native of Ledbury, Herefordshire. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. KENT. 25. — Dover ( Borough). — For deserting his children— WM. MUNNS, a grocer's warehousemen, age 43, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion, hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache ( slight) dark, walks badly; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, dark cord trousers, heavy boots, hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sanders, Dover. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Old Trafford ( County).— For stealing, 9th inst., £ 1 10s., from a shop where he was employed as errand boy— JOHN SILAS MOORE, age 13, height 5 ft. ; dress, dark tweed suit, black cap, black- and- red stockings, white collar, new lace boots. May have gone to 6, Lord- street, Great Harwood, where he has a brother residing. 27.— Old Trafford ( County). — For stealing, 29th ult., at Moss Side, £ 4 10s.— GEORGE WILLOWBY MEADE, alias MARTIN JOHN MEADE, age 30 to 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, hair and moustache brown, eyes ( full) blue, short- sighted, red birthmark left of neck; dress, dark brown suit ( round jacket), black pot hat, low shoes. Has been convicted of felony at Widnes and Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bent, Old Trafford. 28.— Rochdale ( Borough).— Fcr stealing, as a. bailee, the sum of £ 573 — JAMES LOMAX TAYLOR, age 34, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustacho brown, thin features, slightly bow- legged. An auctioneer and valuer; native of Rochdale. Was last seen on 24th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Wilkinson, Roch- dale. FORFARSHIRE. 22.— Forfar ( County).— For stealing, 18th ulto. from a field at Grange of Barry, 8 cattle ( recovered)— A man, who gave his name and address as FRANK STEWART, of Lochee, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair ( pretty full behind) light brown, moustache light, stiff erect gait, long pimply face, 3 scars left side of neck, third finger right hand deformed, dissipated appearance, and seemed to have an affection of one eye, as he kept wiping it with his pocket handker- chief ; dress, dark summer overcoat, light check trousers ( long and tight), white neckerchief, old boots, hard felt hat, all very seedy. Had the appear- ance of a broken- down clerk. May endeavour to leave the country. For seven of the cattle he received a cheque for £ 99, which he subsequently cashed, receiving large notes of the Union Bank. . Information to Chief Constable Adamson, Forfar. LEICESTERSHIRE. 29.— Market Harborough ( County). — For obtaining, 27th ult., 5 dresses by false pretences— FLORENCE WELLS, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair dark; dress, navy- blue skirt with fawn- colour bodice, red silk front, small black knitted shawl, large black slraw hat, trimmed black lace, high- leg button boots. A corset hand, late of Desborough, Northampton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bott, Market Harborough. 30.— Leicester ( Borough).— For stealing, 6th inst., a silver geneva watch, white dial, blue steel hands, engine- turned cases, silver albert twisted links, double, with seal attached ; 1 pair gold cuff links, oval shape, flowers engraved thereon; 1 gold scarf pin, oval shape, gold bar across with flower thereon; 1 dark green small check tweed jacket, black lining, sleeves greasy ; 1 large blue silk hand- kerchief, white squares ; 1 large blue silk handker- chief, red border, flowered in centre— CHARLES HENRY HUNT, age 21, height 5 ft 10 in., clean shaved, peculiarity in right eye, which looks in- wards ; dress, long dark cloth oyercoat, with small white speck, belt and flaps on cuffs, light striped trousers ( worn at bottom), , black billycock hat, FBIDAY, JDLY 24, 1891. Information to Chief Constable Duns, Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 31. — Grantham ( County). — For assault — PETER, alias ALEXANDER MOONEY, age 23, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, little or no whiskers, slight moustache ; dress, grey coat and vest, hard felt hat. He is a china mender, and is supposed to have a pedlar's certificate. During the summer months he attends watering- places " touting." Left Little Gonerby last week, accompanied by his wife and 2 children, for Louth, where his parents reside. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Grantham. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. 32.— Llanidloes ( County).— For deserting his - wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Newtown and Llanidloes Union — EDWARD HUGHES, a collier, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( very curly) dark brown, small light moustache, is addictcd to drink. Is supposed to be at work in the neighbourhood of Abercwmboy, Glamorganshire. Warrant issued. Information to Sergeant Humphries, Llanidloes. NORFOLK. 33.— Acle ( County).— For stealing 2 hens, on 28th ult.— GEORGE ANNISON, alias BELSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair and whiskers black ( may be shaved), eyes dark brown ; dress, light mixture cloth coat and vest, light cor- duroy trousers, red or black neckerchief, lace boots, black soft felt hat. A labourer; native of Rollesby, Norfolk. He is a notorious poacher. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Basham, Acle. 34.— Norwich ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences— FRED CULLINGFORD, alias FREDERICK R. CULLINGFORD, age about 55, height about 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, hair and moustache iron- grey, bald on top of head; dress, light suit, fawn- colour hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Hitchman, Norwich. 35.— Great Yarmouth ( Btrough).— ALLEN YOUNG, Case No. 26, 3rd inst., not to be appre- hended. Property recovered.
