But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of thia nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. / < Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castlo, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Ory" no longer necessary. DE COBAIN, native of Belfast, who stands charged that he did, within the past twoyears, at Belfast, commit an act of gross indeoency with another male person, and within the same time, and at the place aforesaid did incite divers other male persons to commit soiomy:— Walks erect, square shoulders, corpulent, contracts eyebrows when speaking, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, full iace, stont make, 5 leet 10 inches high, about 48 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a silk hat, black Chesterfield overcoat, black frock coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest; is a Member of Parliament. Description of MICHAEL TIMMINS ( mother's surname Maher), native of Bannagagole, who stands charged with having, on the « th day of March, 1891, in the barony of Idrone West, parish of Wells, seriously assaulted one Ellen Hanlon, by kicking her in the abdomen, and thereby placing her life in danger. This man was bailed to tak. his trial on above charge « t Carlow Quarter Sessions on the 9th instant, but failed to put in an appearmce; his present where- abouts are nnknown:— Gray or blue eyes, thick nose, dark complexion, round faen, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 81 jears of age, black hair; wore a soft black hat, dark tw. cd coat, trowsers, and vest; down- looking sullen appearance; is a farmer's son. ( mother's sor- name O'Donohue, native of Ennis, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd March, 1891, at Ennis, in the barony of Islands, parish of Drumcliff, assaulted Philip Bolger, Sergeant, R. I. C., while in the execution of his duty, by striking him on the head with a bottle, thereby causing him grievous bodily harm:— Short upier lip, speaks hesitatingly, gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, small faoe, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 24 years of age, looks younger, dark hair, small dark moustache, a smart swaggering little man; wore a dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a slater. Description of MICHAEL MURPHY, native of Meenahoney, who stands charged with having, on the 17th March. 1891, in the barony of East Mnskerry, parish of Donoughmore, seriously assaulted John Casey:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark brown hair ; wore a black tweed coat, gray tweed trowsers, tweed vest; is a labourer. Car- bery, parish ol Schull, unlawfully assaulted one Thomas Keating, thereby endangering his life:— Deep scar on forehead, very large hands, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, stout maice, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; is a farmer's son. Description of JAMES DORRIAN ( mother's surname M'Allister), native of Greyabbey, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd March, 1891, in the barony ol Lower Ards, parish of Greyabbey, assaulted John Kane, by knocking him down and fracturing his skull, from the effects ot which he died on 3rd March, 1891:— Slightly pockpitted, near- sighted, wears glasses generally, gray weak eyes, sharp nose, fair complexion, regular red face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 55 years of age, light brown hair; wore a soft brown hat, black coat, brass watch chain; is a weaver. Description of MARTIN KEANE ( mother's surname Donohoe), native of Balliadiff, cointy Gal- way, who stands charged with having, on the 25th March, 1891, in the barony of Kiltartan, parish of Kinvarra, stolen £ 15 from his father's dwelfinghouse, viz., one £ 10 note aid one £ 5 note:— Pimples on his jaws, slight out in his eyes, has the habit of looking up and sideways, blue eyes, regular nose, ire ah complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 yean of age, brown hair; wore a dark frieze sack coat, tweed trowsers auj vest; is a gardener. Gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair; wore a tweed cap, gray sack coat, gray trowsers and vest; is a carpenter. 2. Brown eyes, hooked nose, fair complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inohw high, about 2') years of age, fair hair; wore a soft hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. TH1 POLICE GAZETTE, OB HUE- AND- CRY, APRIL 21, 1891 Description of JAMES MANNING, native of county Meath, who stands charged with having on the 10th day of February, 1891, ifl the bftrony of Magonihy, pariah of Killarney, committed wilful and corrupt perjoTy:— Three teeth lost from front of mouth, stooped shoulders, short side whiskers, no moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 50 years of age, sandy hair turning gray; wore a hard black hat, gray sack coat, gray trowsers, and vest; rather good looking, pretty well dressed, looks like a well- to- do farmer; is a caretaker on Land Cor- poration farm. Description of PATRICK KELLY, native of Dublin City, who stands charged with having, on the 30th March, 1891, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Tnlly, stolen from the dwellinghouse of John Dempsey, one pair of boots and seven shillings and sixpence:— Carbuncles m face, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 26 years of age, sandy hair; wore a gray plaid coat, barracan trowsers, and tweed vest; is a labourer. This man may now be in a Dublin Hospital as a patient, as it is believed ha was suffering from some disease of the skin. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, at Kildare. Kildare, 16th April, 1891. Londonderry, Description of TWO MEN unknown, native place unknown ( supposed county Antrim), who stand charged with having, on the 24 th day of February, 1891, in the barony of Loughinsholin, parish of Ballyscullin, illegally entered the lands of Colonel H. S. Bruce, J. P., in pursuit of game, and with having at same time and place pointed a gun at and threatened to shoot one, William H. Phillips, gamekeeper <— 1. Scar over left eyebrow, shaves all his face; dark eyes, dark complexion, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches ugh, about 40years of age, dark hair; wore a brown cap, brownish tweed coat, brown trowsers and vest. 2. High- cheek bones, shaves all his face; dark eyes, dark complexion, slight make, 6 feet high, about 30 years ef age, dark hair; wore a brown two- peaked cap, brownish tweed coat, brown trowsers and vest. Description of JAMES NEWMAN, native place not l^ nowtt, who stands charged with having, on the 25t" E March, 1891, at Curragh Camp, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Ballysax, ia his possession an ass, the property of William Brady, which was stolen on the 9th March, 1891, oat of Brady's yard. The ass has been recovered;— Regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slender make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inohes high, about 26 years of age* dark hair ; wore a gray tweed cap, round dari coat, plaid trowssrs, wears shoes; is a tailor; frequents soldiers' barracks for. the purpose of repairing uniform clothing. Description of JAMES MULLIGAN, native of Omagh. who stands charged with having, on the 21st day of February, l£ 91rw the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, stoktt the sum of £ 13 5*. from Captain Money, of the York and Lancaster Regiment, Birr Barracks:— Scar over right eyebrow, small tumour over right eyelid, two bald spots on back of head caused by cut- marks, slightly bow- legged, gray eyes, regular nose, dark florid complexion, round face, very stont make, 5 feet 7i inches high; about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark hard hat, dark tweed coat and vest with yellow check lihes; is an office's servant; enlisted at Warrington, and has Worked as labourer in iron WttKs, Leeds. Description of M4CHAEL GRIFFIN, native of county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of March; 1891, in tfce barony of Pubble- brien, parish of Groom, stolen 22 sheep, the property of Benjamin Corneille,. 16 of which he sold at the fair of Charleville, on that date:— Speaks with a slight- impediment, no beard or whiskers, small dark moustache, gray or blue eyes; long thin nose^. sallow complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 28 years of age, black hair ; wore a gray tweed cap with one peak, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, soiled1; is a farmer's son. Description of WILLIAM FITZGERALD; native of Lisowen, near Doon, county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 6th day of September', 1889, in the barony of Coonagh. parish of' Doon, with others, murdered George Franklin Gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, regular facet, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high about 24 years of- age, brown hair; won a low hard bat. dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of PATRICK LEONARD, native of Brackna, county Kildare, who stands charged with having, on the night Of 9th or morning of 10th instant, in the barony of Maryborough West, parish of Clon- enagh and Clonaheen, feloniously stolen from the dwellinghouse of Daniel Moore, of Cloneygowan, a new pair of men's bellows- tongued laced boots, no nails, brass rivets in shank, soles pegged; a man's black serge vest; a silver watch, no glass, one hand off, half inside of esse had a yellow appearance, crack across face of dial between the figures nine and three; all value for £ 2 10*., the property of Daniel Moore, with whom he was employed as a farm servant:— Down- looking, sir all clostd- up dark eyes, regu'ar noee, fresh com- plexion, fat face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a black hard hat, dark long- skirted coa^ gray striped trowsers, and dark vest. Description of FRANCIS BRENNAN ( mother's surname Lenehan '•, native of Kilcloghan, who stands charged with having, on the night of 1st or morning of 2nd March, 1891, in the barony of Frenchpark, parish of Creeve, stolen a heifer, the property of Patrick Mullany ( see Hue- and- Gry dated 10th March, 1891):— Delicate appearance, dark eyes, rather short nose, pale sallow complexionj thin face, slight make, 5 feet 4R inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; Wortf a cloth cap with two peaks, dark tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, and dark vest 9 is a farmer's son. This man will try to emigrate if possible. Strokestown, 13th March, 1891. ( 7853 o/— 87152). Tipperary. MICHAEL BRENNAN ( stealing), hue and- Cry, 13th March, not arrested. ( 7530 86189.) Waterford. Description of CHARLES STEWART, alias PETER HANLON, alias GEORGE BROWN, says he fa a native of Armagh, who stands changed with having, on the 6th day of April, 1891 in tho muni- cipal ti rough of Waterford, parish of Trinity Without^ endeavoured to defraud a number of farmers by pretending to purchase their pigs ;— Hazal eyes, long sharp nose, ruddy complexion, routd face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 22 years of age, loots older, brown hair; wore a dark tweed coat, tweed trowsers, black vest, and leggings. He has bean arrested, and pending enquiries has been re- manded. Ho has been in Clonmel, Dundalk, Armagh, and Kilkenny Gaols for larcenies. Waterford 10th April, 1891. ( 8547 C.— 38165.) Westmeath. Description of THOMAS DUFFY, native rof Deerpark, King's County, who stands charged with iiaviog, on or about 25th June, 1890, in the barony of Moycashel, parish of Kilbeggan, unlawfully stolen and carried away ten doors, two locks, and other property ( now recovered), from the house of Joseph Phylan, Kilbeggan;— Dark eyes, pale complexion, thin face, very slight maka, 5 teat 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, small black moustache ( may have shaved), no whiskers or beard; is a grocer's assistant, formerly a publican. Speaks with an English accent. Warrant issued. Kilbeggan, 17th March, 1891. ( 8112 c.— 87297.) Description of a MAN and WOMAN, names and native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 17th February, 1891, in the barony of Moy- ashel and Magheraternon, parish of Dysart, feloniously stolen from Bridget Looran, of Dysart, certain articles of dress, on the highway, at Rathnamuddagh:— 1. Long thin nose, fresh complexion, stout make, middle height, about 45 or 50 years of age, grayish hair, grayish moustache, and long beard; wore a soft black hat and long black coat patched in back of shoulders, carried a blackthorn stick; is a tramp. 2. Fresh complexion, tall, younger than the man, but age unknown, black hair; wore a gray shawl and black dress, no covering on the head ; is a tramp. Kilbeggan, 19th Feb., 1891. ( 7640 c.— 86523.) Description of GARRET DOYLE ( mothers sur- name Doyle), native of Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of March, 1891, in the barony of Shelmalier East, parish of Ardcavan, stolen three lambs, the property of Nicholas Thornton, of ( Wexford:— Cast in right eye, round shoulders, slightly bow- legged, gray eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, freckled face, stoat make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a carpenter. Description of Licence holder, o 1,074, THOMAS WALSH, native of New Ros3, who stands charged with having, about the 18th February, 1891, in the barony of Bantry, . parish of St. Marys's^ failed to notify his arrival to the police, he being a convict on ticket of licence, and his present whereabouts are unknown:— Slightly pockpitted, and " T. W. M. P." on inside of right arm, " Kate and Ellen" on left fore- arm; gray eyes, thin nose, fresh complexion, oval face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 46 years of age, brown hair; wore a round ha- d hat, long dark coat, dark- trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a tailor. Description of JOHN HAIGH, native Of Cross- land, near Huddersfield, who stands charged' with having, en the 9th April, 1891, in the barony of Middlethird, parish of Trinity Without, stolen the Sum of £ 28, a blue overcoat, braver cloth, with black yelvWr collar, two pair gray web drawers; arad two blue Yager wool shirts the money was all'in new coinage, gold and silVer, including a 4s. piece with ant on reverse side:— His back is supposed to be padded t) take away military appearance; gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, mediun make, 5 feet 7 inches high, abontj 25 years of age, dark coarse hair; wore a black felt hat, dar^ coat, trowsers, and vest, brosvn satin necktie; is a private, 15th Hussars. Had a black bullock trunk with W. Lr in faint white letters on end, one of the straps broken. Warrant for arrest in hands of District Inspector, Waterfcrd. ' Description of HENRY JOHNSTON, native of county Wexford ( supposed New Ross); who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of December, 1890, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilcommon, stolen five bags of oata, the property of Margaret Jones, of Bohana:— Wants an upper front tooth, mark Of boil on left cheek near ear, dark eyes, regular ridte, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 27 years of age; wore an old gray tweed coat, trows ara, and vest, all much worn; is r tramping labourer. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of District Inspector at Wicklow. Wicklow, 4th December, 1890. ( 6391 84062.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. • W C Particulars relative to Convict THOMAS TOOMEY, a 318, convicted at Dublin City Com- tnioaian, on 5th August^ 1881, for larceny irom the personv and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude:— 26 yearS- of'age on conviction, single, black hair, hazel eyei » . dark brown eyebrows, rather co ked nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, round visage, stout THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, APEIL 2 1 , 1891 make, 5 feet 3 inches high, left arm has keen broken, sinews contracted, anchor on wiist, right arm tattooed; is a labourer; resided before conviction at Dublin, was born at Cork, where his friends reside. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on Licence, 2nd August, 1890. He has not reported himself at Cork since 13th ult., and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest, he should be dealt with under section 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. 23rd March, 1891. ( 389 H. C.) Particulars relative to Convict JOHN RYAN, c 132, convicted at Monaghan Spring Assizes, on 5th March, 1887, for larceny of J8130, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 25 years of age, on conviction, single; born at Dublin, where his friends reside, no fixed residence before conviction:— Dark hair, blue eyes, dark eyebrows, regular nose, medium month, sallow complexion, round visage, stout make, 5 feet 5i inches high, abscess mark left side of neck, swelled veins on left testicle, top of head getting bald; is a dealer. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on Licence, tbo 9th instant, and came to Dublin, where he reported his arrival to the police oo the 10th instant, and stated he would t » ll the following day and notify his residence, but up to tHis be has failed to do so, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Stolen by means of housebreaking on the night of Monday, 30th, or morning of Tuesday, 31st March, 1891, from a jeweller's shop in this burgh :— A gent's English lever watch, No. 34,226, value £ 4 10*. j a gent's Geneva watch, No. not known, value 30*.; two lady's Geneva watches ( Swiss make), No. not known, value 25*. each. The thief or thieves gained an entrance by breaking a pane of glass in the back window, removing the suib, and raising the lower saih. The Window is secured with three stanchions, with crossbar about 3 feet from sill of window, and the space between the stanchion and through which the thief entered is Pf inches. Foot- marks on paper inside the window show the impression of a small boot with round tackets. A number of valuable watches and other jewellery were left in the window untouched. Please cause the usual inquiry with the view of tracing the stolen property, and also the thief or thieves, and communicate with THOMAS FERGUSON, Superintendent.
