AU announcement! r for insertion in the PoLICl GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE KDITO* OF TH « POLIOI GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. I. Particulars concern inp persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufuient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8 Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enablt the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. (. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of Stolen property, will he prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. ( id. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. It. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and art alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to br • nserted t » the POLIOS GAZE ITS, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the F. ditwr notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the nst issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, wilt be wholly responsible for any proceedings whicn may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later thorn noon on IFednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Ya d, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or >• Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLIOS GAZBTTE through Mr. James Willing, 12S, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. NOTICE. " Scotland Yard, London," has been regis- tered at the General Post Office as the abbreviated address for telegrams for the Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, Criminal Investigation Department, whose offices are now at New Scotland Yard, London, S. W., instead of 21, Whitehall Place. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed iu relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally token or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notice* can be posted. NOTICE. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.—" WILSON, JENNER & Co. The British and Foreign Debt Recovery and Accountancy Offices : Head Office, Finsbury Square Buildings, 1 & 2, Chiswell Street, Finsbury Pavement, London, E. C." For some years past the Metropolitan Police have received complaints from all parts of the country about this Firm. Though they have not yet suc- ceeded in discovering who the man is who trades as above, or where he lives, the inquiries made give proof that the numerous complaints received are well founded, and that the business is thoroughly fraudulent. The Assistant Commissioner, Criminal Investigation Department, will be prepared to assist any one who has been defrauded and wishes to prosecute. Meanwhile, he wishes to give this warning to other Police Forces, as the man has agents in various provincial towns, and advertises in provincial newspapers. If such an advertisement appears in any London paper, the Metropolitan Police will warn the Editor that it is a fraud. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 2.— Convict Supervision Department. — Woodcut portrait and description of Expiree WILLIAM BAKER, alias GEORGE BRADFORD, WM. BRADFORD, and GEO. SAUNDERS, Office No. 40633, whose apprehension is sought for larceny ( lodger), age 37, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( thin), eyes blue, proportionate build, oval face, scar right side of chest, on left buttock, and left side of back. Sentenced at Central Crimi- nal Court, 14th December, 1885, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny ( lodger), at which time a great number of cases were traced to him in the S. W. of London, where he has again commenced operations. He generally uses the name of Bradford, and repre- sents himself to be a carpenW. Information to the Assistant Commissioner, Con- vict Supervision Department, New Scotland Yard, S. W. 3. — Criminal Investigation Depart- ment.— For forgery and uttering a cheque for £ 70 on Coutts' Bank— GEORGE RADEMACKER, a waiter, age 23, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, sickly- looking, hair and moustache ( slight) dark, nose slightly aquiline, high shoulders, small teeth; dress, black overcoat with velvet collar, and black felt hat; carries a stick or umbrella with ivory knob. A German. Warrant issued. 4.— E Division.— For stealing a silver lever watch, No. 94101, and a gold albert chain— GEORGE BUXTON, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes blue, impediment in speech, very short thick neck, one tooth left side upper jaw much worn by smoking a pipe; dress, black diagonal overcoat, brown plaid jacket and vest, corduroy trousers, stamped " Strand Union Receiving Workhouse." A native of Hull. Wan- ant issued. 5-— G Division. — For embezzling £ 8 10*. on 21st ult.— ARTHUR JOHN FAIR WEATHER, a traveller, late of 340, Commercial- road, Old Kent- road, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light; dress, brown overcoat, dark undercoat and trousers, hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 6.— K Division.— For fraudulently obtaining money by advertising goods, & c., in the " Exchange and Mart," and not forwarding same— EDWARD GARDNER, alias JOHN HARRIS, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, mole both arms ; dress, brown overcoat, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. Gentlemanly appearance. Native of Tunbridge Wells. Warrant issued. 7.— M Division.— For embezzling £ 5 13s. lOd. — WILLIAM A. PRYOR, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair, beard, whiskers, and mous- tache dark brown, eyes hazel, one or two teeth deficient in upper jaw, slightly bow- legged, and round- shouldered; dress, blue melton overcoat, light mixture trousers, high black hat. Lately in the employ of a printer and wholesale stationer. Has been in the Army. Warrant issued. 8.— Y Division.— For stealing £ 20 17s. 4d — MICHAEL TOB1N, age 19, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion fair, hair light, eyes blue; dress, dark brown overcoat, dark grey tweed suit, lace boots, and black hard felt hat. Has been communicating with a woman named Maggie McCarthy, who is smpposed to be residing [ at an hotel^ at Fermoy. 9.— R Division.— Woodcut portrait and description of JAMES LAWRENCE, late post- master at Eltham, whose apprehension is sought for embezzlement since October, 1887, age 73, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and whiskers grey, stout build, dress, dark coat and trousers, black felt hat. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 10.— For embezzlement — WALTER SCOTT, a solicitor's clerk, late of 71, Vincent- square, West- minster, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair and small moustache dark brown; dress, black jacket and vest, brown felt hat. An athlete, well known at Camden Town Swimming Baths. Absconded 12th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McWilliam, 26, Old Jewry E. C. AYRSHIRE. 11.— Ayr ( Burgh).— For assault with intent to ravish, 8th inst.— HUGH McCAMELLY, age 60, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair ( bald on top) and whiskers all round face, grey, shaved on chin and top lip, sharp nose, which is supposed to be pockmarked, stiff rocking gait; dress, grey tweed jacket, moleskin trousers, small check tweed peak cap, boots or shoes with sparrables and heel plates. Was employed as a carter on a railway in course of construction between Annbank and Troon, and has worked as such with various contractors in Glasgow, Greenock, Paisley, & c. Supposed to have two brothers working at Coltness Furnaces. May seek employment at public works. Absconded 10th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McKay, Ayr. BEDFORDSHIRE. 12.— Luton ( Borough).— For obtaining 2 pigs by false pretences— ERNEST POLTON, age 26 to 30, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, mous- tache, defect in one of his eyes. A bricklayer, but has recently been working as a jobbing butcher. Native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable J& quest, Luton. BERKSHIRE. 13.— Clewer ( County).— For stealing a pair of boots ( recovered) and one gentleman's shooting boot and one lady's button boot— JAMES COL- LINGWrOOD, a rag and bone collector, age about 32, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion, hair, and dirty moustache dark, blind ono eye, supposed left; dress, long dirty blue monkey jacket, dirty cord trousers, dark hard felt hat, or may be wearing a cap. Is known as " Boss," and is sometimes in company of a man called " Gipsy Jack." Information to Supt. Blake, Clewer. BRECONSHIRE. 14.— Brecon ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee ARTHUR WM. DAVIES, alias WM. DAVIES, Office No. 31184 ( see Case 76, 6th inst.) Information to Supt. Joseph, Brecon. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 15.— Buckingham ( County).— For bigamy — WALTER CLARK PERKINS, age 28, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar on forehead, cut mark on left little finger ; dress, dark overcoat, brown- striped suit, light log- gings, black tie and horseshoe pin, plain or brown cap. A groom ; native of Luton, Bedfordshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Shepherd, Buckingham. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 16.— Bottisham ( County). — For attempted rape, 5th inst., at Cherryhinton— EDWARD HATLEY, age 33, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion sallow, bloated face, hair dnrk, moustache brown, eyes hazel, slightly knock- kneed ; dress, brown cloth jacket, worsted guernsey, check cord trousers ( tight fitting), black round felt hat, with broad brim and elastic guard and bar. A labourer, native of Cherry- hinton. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Redhouse, Bottisliant. and is now believed to have enlisted in the Army. It is requested that enquiry he made at recruiting stations, barracks, & c. Photograph can be seen on application. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. FLINTSHIRE.. 22.— Mold ( County).— For stealing a blue cloth Inverness coat and cape— JOSEPH EVANS, alias " DODGER," age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, cut mark down centre of forehead, left arm broken; dress, dark plaid suit, light brown felt hat; may be wearing the stolen coat. Stated he had recently been training horses for Lord Combermere. Supposed native of near Ruthin, Denbighshire. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Bolton, Mold. CHESHIRE. 17.— Stockport ( Borough). — For failing to report — License Holder JAMES JONES, alias JOHN LEONARD, Office No. 40835, age 61, height 5 ft. J in., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes grey, scars top of head, back of right thumb, outside right knee, and front of left shin, second joint of third left finger stiff. Sentenced at Liverpool, 28th October, 1884, to 7 years penal servitude, and 3 years police supervision, for fraud. Licensed 16th January, 1891. Every search is requested for this man, who is an expert burglar, and will no doubt be commit- ting offences. Supervisee ELIZA PACKWOOD, Office No. 40780, age 21, height 4 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair red, eyes grey, face much freckled, moles top of nose, left cheek, left of top lip, each side jaw, and left of neck. Sentenced at Salford, 7th July, 1890, to 6 months hard labour, and 2 years police supervision, for larceny. Information to the Chief Constable, Stockport. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 23.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For stealing a photo- graphic lens, j- plate, " Delemere " patent, maker's name, " Dalymaris, London," on brass- plate on side — GEORGE WILLIAMSON, a photographer, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, moustache sandy; dress, dark small- plaid suit, blue necktie with white spots, and horse- shoe pin, black bowler hat. May endeavour to obtain employment, as an " all- round hand," with photographer in small way of business. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. DURHAM. 18.— Durham ( City).— For embezzling £ 34 ( total defalcations being upwards of £ 500), FREDERICK DAVID BUCKHAM, a clothier's assistant, age 32, height 5 ft. 10 in., hair inclined to ginger and bald on top, fair, moustache and slight side whiskers ginger, eyes brown, smart appearance, usually wears dark tweed jacket and vest, light tweed trousers, brown felt hat. This man served his apprenticeship with Mr. Ward, Clothier, Newcastle- on- Tyne, and has been manager for Hepworth & Co , at their branch shop, Durham, for the last 6 years. Well known to most managers for that firm in the North of England. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Smith, Durham. ESSEX. 19.— Chelmsford ( County).— For neglecting to pay a fine of 15s. and costs, for cruelty to a horse— ERNEST PORTER, age 18, height 5 ft. 5 in., hair dark brown, whiskers and moustache very slight, eyes dark ; dress, dark pilot coat, dark cloth trousers, and hard felt hat. A native of Writtle. Commitment warrant issued. 20.— C h e I m sfO rd County).— For d eserting his children, leaving them chargeable to the Chelmsford Poor Law Union— CHARLES TRUSSELL, alias WARREN and " BOSS," age 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache and side whiskers sandy, has rather a roman nose, is fond of drink, has been a soldier; dress, black coat, cord trousers, hard hat or double peak cap. A native of Great Baddow. Usually works with threshing machines. Warrant issued. 21. — Chelmsford ( County). — ALFRED HENDERSON BFMNETT, alius BURRIDGE, Case No. 11, 30th ult., has not yet been apprehended, GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 2k— Cheltenham ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— R. HILTON, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair grey, moustache brown, tinged with grey, eyes sap- posed grey ; dress, light dust or covert coat, dark suit, and brown bowler hat. Is accompanied by his three sons, age 10, 8 and 6 years respectively, dressed in sailor suits and caps. Stays at hotels and coffee taverns. He represented himself as an advertising agent, and gave receipts printed by Messrs. Davis and Son, Gloucester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McRae, Cheltenham. 25. — Fishponds ( County). — For larceny ( lodger), stealing a watch ( recovered) and clothing, which he is now supposed to be wearing— EDWARD HAINES, age 29, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar front and two top of head, 2 blue marks right side of forehead, scar right buttock and inside left upper arm, " A. C." tattooed left forearm; dress, dark cloth overcoat, dark cloth tronsers and vest, white woollen scarf, army boots, and black hard felt hat. A native of Bitton, Gloucestershire. May probably enlist. Warrant issued. 26. — Fishponds ( County). — For laroeny ( bailee) — WILLIAM GREEN alias WILLIAM KODGERS, a labourer, age 23, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion dark, hair and small moustache dark brown, eyes ( small) very dark ; dress, old dark clothes, long blue butcher's jacket old bine serge oap. Native of St. George's, near Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Fishponds. HEREFORDSHIRE. 27.— Hereford ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences— CHARLES RICHARDSON, alias ALFREY TAYLOR, a travelling watch and clock cleaner, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion pale, thin features, hair brown, thin light moustache, red marks about nose from the effects of drink; dress, black and brown overcoat with cape, light plaid trousers ( rather short), hard bowler hat. Generally carries a paper parcel containing his tools, Ac. Warrant issued. 28.— Hereford ( Citi/).— For embezzlement— THOMAS MORRIS, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache orown, generally shaves chin, walks rather stiff about the knees; generally dressed as a labourer. A carter or labourer; native of Hereford. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Richardson, Hereford. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1891. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 3 HERTFORDSHIRE. 29.— Bishop's Stortford ( County). — For stealing, 4th inst., 3 white ducks and 1 fowl— JOHN ONIONS, a tramp, age 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache ginger, eyes hazel; dress, two black coats, black yeBt, light trousers, dark cloth peak cap, old lace shoes. Travelled with a woman named Emma Baldrey, of Bury St. Edmund's, who is now in the Three Counties Asylum. Well known at low lodging- houses at Bury St. Edmund's, Buntingford, Royston, and Cambridge. Warrant issued. Apprehended.— See Case No. 92 u nder Apprehensions. 30.— Hertford ( County).— For embezzlement— CHARLES ROBERT FLITTON, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 10J in., complexion dark, hair ( parted in centre and thin on top) dark brown, rather slight side whiskers, dark, moustache inclined to sandy, chin shaved, walks erect, very fond of smoking and talking when in company, can speak French and German, pleasant and gentlemanly appearance; dress, black diagonal morning coat and vest, dark stripe trousers, black hard felt hat, spring- side boots, generally wears a gold watch and chain. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Parish, Hertford. KENT. 31.— Folkestone ( Borough). — For stealing from a Temperance Hotel, 21st inst., £ 1 12s. 6d , and 24 penny stamps— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, side whiskers and monstacho brown, large nose; dress, black overcoat, black suit with silk facings on coat, black hard felt hat; carried a small black hand- bag, containing brush, comb, collars, and shirt. Is supposed known at Baker's Hotel, St. George's- street, Canterbury. Information to Supt. Taylor, Folkestone. KING'S COUNTY. 32.— Parsonstown ( County). — For stealing £ 13 5s., from Birr Barracks, 21st inst.— JAMES MULLIGAN, an officer's servant, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7| in,, very stout, complexion dark florid, hair dark, eyes grey, regular nose, scar over right eyebrow, small tumour over right eyelid, two bald spots back of head caused by cut marks, slightly bow- legged ; dress, dark tweed coat and vest, with yellow check lines, dark hard hat. A native of Omagh. Enlisted at Warrington, and has worked as labourer in ironworks at Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to District Inspector, Royal Irish Constabulary, Parsonstown. LANCASHIRE. 33.— Blackburn ( County). — For failing to report — Supervisee DOROTHY HANNAH BRINDLE, Office No. 40810, age 19, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, lost sight of right eye. Sentenced at Preston, 15tli October, 1890, to 3 months hard labour and 2 years police supervision for larceuy. 580- 6. Information to Supt. Myers, Blackburn. 34.— Kirkham ( County). — For obtaining by false pretences, 16th inst., a silver English lever watch, plain cases, plain gold balance, gold hinges and hands, maker D. W. Dickinson on dial and works, No. 10608, and a gold double albert, open curb pattern, gold locket to hold six photographs, and small gold engine attached— A man who gave the name of THOMAS DOLLERY, age 32 or 33, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache light, cut mark about an inch long right of neck, ring tattooed right third finger, smart appearance; dress, light brown overcoat, light tweed undercoat, black velvet vest, plain light brown beaver cloth trousers, black billycock hat, light cloth leggings, wore a plaid shawl round the shoulders. The appearance of a jockey. Has with him a brown leather portmanteau, containing two overcoats, 1 pair trousers, and 1 pair new brown leather shoes. He stated he was a detective on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, and stayed one night at 20, Wyre- street, Fleetwood. Has left a velvet jacket and vest behind. Information to Supt. Stafford, Kirkliam. 35.— Ormskirk ( County). — For stealing a shirt and a pair of boots— A YOUTH, age 15, height 4 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blme, lost third and fourth fingers right hand, six bine dots left arm. His mother resides at 19, Mill- street, Kirkham. He has been convicted for stealing timber, sleeping out, and stealing a watch and chain, on 16th February, 1887, and sent from Preston Sessions to Reformatory at Birkdale, from which place he absconded on 17th ulto. ; dressed in the uniform of that institution. Said to be making his way to Bolton. Information to Supt. Arnold, Kent and Sussex Trades Directory for 1891 : 241, Mayhall- road, Brixton " ( no such person ever known at this address), and signs it " S. Nicholls." He also uses a memo, form for receipt, printed " South Coast, Sussex, and Kent Hotels, and Trades Directory: Publisher, J. Allum, 24, Wilton road, Pimlioo, S. W." States he is a native of Bayswater, London, and was a butler up to a few years ago; since then has kept an eating- house, in the season of 1888, at Montigue- street, Worthing. Last residence, 34, Cleveland- street, Bayswater; and formerly resided with his wife at 24, or 42, Mansfield- street, Oxford- street, London. Description of two men suspected— lst, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., full red face, very long sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers, bald patch about the size of palm of a man's hand on top of head ; dress, short dark blue melton overcoat, black clothes, lace boots, with broad soles, and black hard felt hat; when at Norton, had on false whiskers and beard ( trimmed), about inches long.— 2nd, age 22 to 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion pale and sallow, moustache ( slight) dark; dress, dark overcoat, low shoes, with thin soles and narrow toes, hard felt hat. Both are of gentlemanly appearance, and are no doubt expert professional thieves. After the robbery they went by train from Norton to Frodsham, Cheshire, and thence to Liverpool.
