But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the deliverr of the Huo- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the oovers, or give the number it bears, aa without this i filiation the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, Ao., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Antrim. n Description of THOMAS WALLACE, mother's surname M'Neilly, native of Taylorstown, and ROBERT GAULT, mother's surname Thompson, native of Gillestown, who stand charged with having, on the 31st January, 1891, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Ballyscullion, Grange, unlawfully atsaulted one, William Lynn, thereby endangering his life:— 1. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, black hair; wore a hard hat, Hack coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a weaver. 2. Rather good- looking; dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, rather stout make, 5 foet 5 or 6 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard hat, black coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's s> n. Description of JOHN FINNIGAN, native of Clones, who stands charged with having, on the 13th January, 1891, in the barony of Clankee, parish of Enniskeen, stolen out of the dwelling- house of Dr. Dempsey, Kingscourt, one rug, two umbrellas, one walking stick, one woollen muffler, and a child's dress :— Tattoo mark of harp on breast, woman on left side, man on right side, shamrock on one side of harp, stool on other side, Erin painted underneath, a woman on each arm, near elbow, star and shamrock on loft hand, shamrock and anchor on right hand, gray eyes, large nose, red complexion, long thin face, medium make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age; wore a brown tweed frock coat, brown tweed tiowsers, " tiud vest. This man is at present on remand in Bailieboro' Bridewell, and may have committed crimca elsewhere. Information sworn. Bailieboro', 15th January, 1891. ( 6989 c.— 85227.) Description of MICHAEL GILLICK ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Bracklin, who stands charged with having, on tho 10th December, 1890, in the barony of Clankee, parish of Enniskeen, stolen two heifers, since recovered, from John Kelly, of Leiter:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a soft black hat, short gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest j is a labourer. Donegal, Description of JOHN M'DAID, native of Meena- willigan, who stands charged with having, on the 31st December, 1890, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Conwal, assaulted Michael M'Ginley, by stabbing him with a knife:— Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 yenrs of age, dark hair; wore a low soft hat, dark jacket and vest, striped tweed trowsers, and a nickel- plated watch guard; is a labourer. Lately returned from Scotland where his parents reside at present; he is likely to return there. A Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Churchhill Police. Letterkenny, 2nd Jan., 1891. Description of AGNES WOODS, native of Tasmania, but who has for some years past resided in Glasgow, who stands charged with having, on the 6th February, 1891, in the barony of Lower Castlereagh, parish of Knockbreda, stolen out of the dwelling- house of William Morrow, Tullycarnet, 11 silver tea spoons marked " J. M.," 12 white- handled breakfast knives, 6 electro- plated table spoons, a pair of electro- plated sugar tongs, a pa: r of lady's boots, a horse rug, a gray checked knee rug, and a white knitted shawl:— Mole on each cheek, speaks with a Scotch or north cf England accent, has the appearance of a foreigner, dark eyes, cocked nose, dark swarthy complexion, thin face, slender make, 5" feet 3 or 4 inches high, about 24 years of age, very dark hair; is a domestic servant. Newtownards, 9th Feb., 189 . ( 7403 85974). Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 31st January, 1891, in the barony of Upper Castle- reagh, parish of Saintfield, broken into the house of Thomas Graham, and stolon therefrom a Waterbury watch, value 12J.:— Very full red face, blue eyes, florid complexion, very stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a low hard hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, all much worn ; is a tramp. Downpatrick, 2nd Feb., 1891. ( 7299 c.- 85773.) SAMUEL MATHEWS ( burglary), Hue- and- Cry, 19th December, not arrested. Banbridge, 25th Nov., 1890. ( 6238 c— 83726.) WILLIAM M'GREGORY ( burglary), described in issue of 7th November, not arrested. 24th September, 1890. ( 4966 c— 81457.) Dublin. Description of MAN unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 27th day of Nov- ember, 1890, in the barony of Coolock, parish of Clontarf, attempted to obtain money by falsely representing, at the public- house of John Clinton, Clontarf, that he had, about a fortnight previously, purchased some drink there, and had not time to wait for change:— Speaks quickly and has good address, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, oval faco, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark brown jerry bat, navy blue necktie with white spots, black short coat, light tweed trowsers, and black vest; states he was a tram conductor, is a porter at a library in Dublin. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Clontarf. Clontarf, 29th November, 1890. ( 6304 c.— 83S71.) King's. Description of JOSEPH BRYAN, native of Layertbrope, North York, England, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd February, 1891, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, stolen tho sum of £ 3 13*. 2d. from the Canteen of the York and Lancaster Regiment, Birr Barracks : — Knock- kneed, gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, re- gular face, medium make, 5 feet finches high, about 26 years of age, brown hair; desertad in uniform, is now in plain clothes— description not known; is Lance- Corporal, York and Lancaster Regiment. Parsonstown, 5th Feb., 1891. ( 7360 c— 85895.) Description of the undermentioned juvenile offender, who absconded from the Reformatory School at Philipstown, on January 10th:— JAMES GINN, No. 1,103, scar on left brow, forefinger of left hand crooked, cut- scar on ball of left thumb, 19J years of age, 5 feet inches high, heavy and stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, broad nose, regular moutb, full visage. Formerly belonged to Londonderry. He broke into a house at Clonegown, and dressed himself in clothing found therein, with the exception of his own strong Blucher boots. He took away from the house about Jp. ll. He may have made for England and is likely to enlist or emigrate. The Manager will defray the expense to be incurred, and reward the officer who shall take him before a Justice with the sum of £ 1. ( 372 H. C.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OB HUE- AND- CRY, FEBBUABY 13, 1891. Londonderry. Description of JAMES HAUGHEY, native ol Knockaneal, who stands charged with having, on the 28th October, 1890, in the barony of Loughinsholin, parish of Maghera, with two others, seriously assaulted one William Bradley, and having been bailed to appear at Maghera Petty Sessions on 29th November, 1890, to take his trial lor said offence, failed to do so:— He is an Irish- American, and has a small cut- mark on back of head ; dark eye*, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 28 years of ege, dark hair ; wore a dark tweed coat, dark trowsers, dark vest; is a farmer's son. The District In- spector at Magherafelt holds a Warrant for this man's arrest. Magherafelt, 15 Dec., 1& 90. ( 5770 c.— 84359.) GEORGE WALKER ( released convict), des- cribed in issue of 12th Sept., not arrested. ( 329 H. C.) Longford, Description of DENIS M'CARTHY ( mother's sur- name Harvey), native of Longford, who stands charged with 1 living, on the night of the 13th January, 1891, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, accompanied by three others ( in custody), stolen from the premises of Thomas Shanley, publican, Main street, Longford, a quarter barrel of porter and three currant cakes:— Wild unkempt looking- nppearance, dark eyes, rather long nose, pale sallow completion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair, small dark moustache; usually dressed in cap and ragged fray tweed emit; is a labourer. may be accompanied by his wife, who is of the following description:— Large flat feet usually bare, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; usually lives by begging. Longford, 29th January, 1891. ( 6984 c.— 85717.) Louth. Description of MICHAEL SULLIVAN, native of Smarmore, who stands charged with having, on the 4th February, 1891, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Smarmore, stolen the sum of £ 3 14.?., the property of Peter Fitzsimons, of Smarmore — Stooped shoulders, bine eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years cf age, fair hair; were a hard hat, brown frieze colt, cord trowrers, frieze vest; is a labourer. Warrant in hands of the Ardee Police. Ardee, 7th February, 1891. ( 7390 c.— 85950.) Tipperary. Description of ISAAC FLOYD ( farmer), native of Lacknavea, who is missing from his home at Lacknavea, in the barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Kilmas tulla; was seen in town of Nenagh on 13th November last, and has not since been heard of. It is feared that he fcais met with foul play :— Abcut 57 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, walks with a stoop, short neck, middle finger of each hand contracted, dark brown hair, bald on front of head, wore all his beard which is turning gray, moustache clipped short; were gray frieze coat, tweed trowsers, and vest, salt hat. Newport, 19th Dec., 189(\ ( 6593 c.—? 4507.) Description of THOMAS STAPLETON ( mother's surname Hayes), native of Piperhill, who stands charged with having, on tbe lst of December, 1890, in the barony of Kilnemanagh Upper, parish of Toem, seriously assaulted Clement Horan, of Glenough Upper, by striking him on the head with some instrument, thereby placing his life in danger:— Has old cut- mark on back of head and on forehead, brown full eyes, thick nose, sallow complexion, rather square face, stout square make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 38 years of age,. dark brown hair; wore a black hat, dark frock- coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Dundrum, 21st Dee., 1890. ( 6614 c.— 84550.) Description of PATRICK HOGAN, native of Ballykeveen, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1890, at Toem, in the barony of Kil- namanagh Upper, parish of Toem, unlawfully stabbed one Edmond Noonan in tho breast with a knife, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, rather cocked nose, pale complexion, thin face, smart make, 6 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray suit of clothes; is a labourer. Dundrum, 16th August, 1890. ( 4170 80115.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, c 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, county Tipperary, on 19th July, 1888, for the larceny of a pair of blankets, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 26 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Clonmel, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 5A inches high, cut mark left side of head and between leu thumb and forefinger, burn mark on left knee and shin. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 20th December, 1889, and went to reside at Clon- mel. He failed to report himself to the R. I. C. there on the 2nd inst., he is suspected of having committed larceny and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under section 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 331 H. C.) JOHN LYNCH ( sheep stealing), described in issue of 3rd Octo or, not arrested. ( 4456 c.— 80589). Tyrone. THOMAS HAMILTON, alias DONNELLY, native of Armagh, ALEXANDER HAWTHORNE, alias SAMUEL JAMES NEAL, native of Cookstown, WILLIAM M'KNIGHT, alias CURRY, alias M'WILLIAMS, native of Armagh, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 28th October, 1890. ( 4213 c.— 80384.) PATRICK SHARKEY ( rape), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 517 a— 73739.) Waterford. Description of a man who stated his " name was DAVID LIVINGSTONE, and that he was a native of Ayr, Scotland, who stands charged with having, on the 2^ th January, 1891, in the barony of Decies- without- Drum, parish of Dnngarvan, obtained under false pretences, from George F. Power, watchmaker, Dungarvan, two watches described elsewhere:—- Wore a moustache and imperial, brown eyes, regular Lose, sandy complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 54 years of age, sandy- gray hair; wore a black felt hat, black overcoat, and gray trowuers. He stated he was agent for Wilson and Jeoner, London, to collect debts. A Warrant for his arrest has been issued. Dnngarvan, 2nd Feb., 1891. ( 7314 0.— 85799.) Wexford. Description of PATRICK KELLY, alias MOFFAT, who stands charged with having, on the 10th Janaary, in the barony of Gorey, parish of Inch, committed an indecent assault and attempted rape on Frances Johnston:— Wants some front teeth, dark eyes, rather long nose, dark complexion, Ions; face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 36 or 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard hat, pilot coat, brown check trowsers and vest, bellows- tongued boots with iron plates across the toes; is a tramp labourer. This man is not like a labourer, and he possesses soma education. Warrant for his arrest. Gorey, 17th January, 1891. ( 7017c— 85272.) Description of EDWARD GRANNELLS, native of Enniscorthy, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd January, 1891, in the barony of Scarawalsb, parish of St. Mary's, indecently assaulted Mary Anne Sullivan:— Slightly bow- legged, squate shoulders, sandy moustache, face shaved, light gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round lace, stout make, 5 feet 7£ inches high, about 24 years of age, looks older, sandy hair; wore a dark blue sack coat, dark blue trowsers and vost; is a cot man. Warrant issued. Enniscorthy, 10th January, 1891. ( 6878 c— 85056.) Wicklow. Description of HENRY JOHNSTON, native of county Wexford ( supposed New R03S), who stands charged with having, on the 2nd day of December, 1890, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilcommon, stolen five bags of oats, the property of Margaret Jones, of Bohana:— Wants an npper front tooth, mark of boil on left cheek near ear, dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 27 years of age; wore an old gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, all much worn; is a tramping labourer. Warrant for his ariost in the hands of District Inspector at Wicklow. Wicklow, 4th December, 1890. ( 6391 84062.) Description of PATRICK KERRIGAN, alias CONNOR or COMBER, native of Dumana, county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 14th July, 1890, in the barony of Upper Talbotstown, parish of Baltinglass, committed perjury:— Qray eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 hair turning gray; wore a dark hard hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a horse and cattle denier. Speaks with a Galway accent; deals in Connemara ponies; is known to thi Police in Kildare, Carlow, Meath, Tyrone, Wexford, and Roscommon, wherj he has prosecuted parties for larceny from the person. Warrant for his arrest. Dunlavin, fith November, 1890. ( 5848. c— 82977). DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. C Division. Description of a juvenile offender who absconded from Glencree Reformatory School, on 14th December, at about 8 o'clock:— PATRICK BYRNE, 2312, about 17 or 18 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown bair, bine eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage ; formerly belonged to Roundtown, Dublin. His mother, Mary Byrne, was servant in police station, Roundtown, some years ago. " P " and other tattoo marks on right arm, crosses, & c., on left. His uncle, Thomas Byrne, resides at 39, Doyle's- court, off New- strset, and his uncles Ned and Andy Byrne are firemen on board a boat that plies between the North Wall and other ports. The School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap, ( Scotch make), corcuroy jacket, trowsers, and vest, elastic belt, strong railed boots, No. 2312. A reward of £\ will be given for his apprehension, and all expenses paid. December 15tb, 1890. 366 n o. Particulars relative to convict JOHN WILLIAM- SON, c. 35, convicted at Hilary Sessions, Dublin, on 11th January, 1886, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 26 years of age on convic- tion, single; is a labourer; born at Swords; reside! in Dublin before conviction, where his friends reside. Description :— Black hsir, hazel eyes, black eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, round visage, stoat make, 5 feet 8 inches high; burn mark under right breast. This man was released from Maryb? ro' priso- t on licence, 17th December, 1889, and went to reside in Dublin. He recently left his lodgings, 6, Moore's- cottages, Upper Rutland- street, without notifying change of residence to the police, and his presant whereabouts is unknown. In tbe event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 6 of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. 15th December, 1890. ( 361 H. C.) ENGLISH POLICE. Norfolkshire, Man, giving name of GRANT, described in issue of 21st November, not arrested. ( 344 H. C.) Sussex. Description of SYDNEY BROOK, wantel. on Warrant, for stealing moneys at Hove, the property of his masters A clerk, birthplace Brighton, about 19 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, lair hair, gray eyes, fair complexion, medium figure, no whiskers, very slight fair moustache, no bear!; drefsed in black coat, vest, and trowsers, laco- up boots sup- posed to be new, blsck hard felt hat; relations live at Brighton; may possibly enlist. Information to Major TEEVAN, Chief Constable cf Hove. Chief Constable's Office, Hove, 2nd February, 1891. ( 375 H. C ) SCOTCH POLICE. Ayrshire. JOHN M'DONALD, F. L. 1036, described in issue of 2nd December, not arrested. ( 354 H. C.) Dumfrieshire. Wanted here, charged with forging and uttering a bank cheque for £ 46 on the Commercial Bank:— JOHN BLAIR, a seedsman's cWk, 32 years of age, 6 feet high, dark hair inclined to curl, dark moustache, no whiskers, brown eyes, Ion? full face, fresh csm- plexion proportionate build, walks erect, smart respectable appearance, and good looking; is a Scotch- man ; dressed in a dark round felt hat, and dark tweed jacket suit, nay have drab- coloured dust coat, or may change his clothing. His father is said to reside it Rothesay. May endeavour to leave the co- intry. Warrant granted. Police officers are requested to make particalar search and enquiry for this mat, and if found, apprchentf, search person, & c., and wire to subscriber, JOHN MALCOLM, Supt. of Police. PETER COUPER ( embezzlement), described in previous issue, not arrested. ( 338 H. c.) Glasgow. FORGERY OF BILLS OF EXCHANGE. J. W. PATTERSON ( forgery), Hua- and- Cry or 6th February, not arrestea. ( 363 H. C ) JOHN BROWN ( emblement), described in isiue of 6th February, not arrested. ( 370 H. C.) . Lanarkshire. Description of two men who stand charged with having, on the 16th of November, 1890, absconded from Chapelhall, in the county of Lanark, taking witb them a dogcart, the description of which is annexed :— A two wheeled dogcart, dark brown painted body, the lower panel divided into three parts and the upper one sparred, wheels and trams lined with red, dark blue cushions, both seats shift with a spring from the front, and tho footboard behind is wrought by a spring in the centre of it, and a half- moon- shaped silverized handle on oach side in front 1. JOSEPH SMITH, about 45 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair hair, whiskers, and moustache, beard cut to a point on chin, fair complexion, thin features, pretty large nose, and very small eyes, slender build, and English spoken; dressed in a felt hat, navy blue serge jacket suit, and dark blue waterproof coat. 2. His son, 20 or 21 years of ago, fair hair at d clean shaved, and about the same height as the father; dressed in a black felt hat, brown jacket suit, and dark blue waterproof coat. These men were canvassing for a firm of photo- graphers in Glasgow, and had the dogcart hired by the week, which was paid regularly for a time. The pony was their own. They will have sold both, and it is requested that every eTort be made to trace them and machine. Airdrie Police Office, 20th Dec., 1890. ( 369 H. C.) Roxburghshire. FRAUD. Wanted here on a Magistrate's Warrant for having, betwoen 4th and 7th instant, fraudulently obtained food and lodgings, also attempt to obtain money on false protences, WILLIAM KIDD, a tramp, gardener or sawmiller, native of Kirkden, Forfarshire, 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 Inches in height, stout build, fair hair, sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers, very red cheeks, wants part of thumb left hand, and part of third finger right band; dress, dark tweed checked suit, heavy short dark overcoat, lined with light checked tweed, strong watertight lacing boots, black hard felt hat, and carried a walking- stick, smart appearance and good address. This man tramps the country and calls on gardeners and asks for work. If successful he may work for a few days and then leaves without paying his lodgings. Has been convicted of fraud in the county of Forfar, find in the burgh of Kirkcaldy. Wanted for theft of clothing from Stirling Combina- tion Poorhouse, on the 9th January, 1891, CHARLES M'LAUGHLIN, 68 years of oge, about 5 feet 7 inches high, florid complexion, gray hair, scar on upper lip, a vagrant, and a native of Ireland; also wanted on a similar charge, committed on 13th January, 1891, MAXWELL CUNNINGHAM, 38 years of age, about 6 feet 7 inchos high, dark hair, moustache and imperial, short neck, is a native of Campsie, is a tailor by trade, and formerly of the 78th Highlanders. Both dressed in Poorhouse clothing, consisting of jacket, vest, dark gray trowsers, Kirkcaldy striped shirt, white flannel shirt, white plaiding drawers, Rob Roy tartan scarf, pair of braces, pair of stockings, pair of shoes, and a dark gray cap.
