Description of JOHN FINNIGAN, native of Clones, who stands charged with having^ on the 13th January, 1891, in the barony of Clankee, parish of Enniskeen, stolen out of the dwelling- house of Dr. Dempsey, Kingscourt, one rug, two umbrellas, one walking stick, one woollen muffler, and a child's dress :— Tattoo mark of harp on breast, woman on left side, man on right side, shamrock on one side of harp, stool on other side, Erin painted underneath, a woman an each arm, near elbow, star and shamrock on left hand, shamrock and anchor on right hand, gray eyes, large nosa, red complexion, long thin faoe, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 years of age ; wore a brown tweed frock ooat, brown tweed trowsers, and vest. Description of MICHAEL GILLICK ( mother's surname Reilly), native of Bracklin, who stands charged with having, on the 10th December, 1890, in the barony of Clankee, parish of Enniskeen, stolen two heifers, since recovered, from John Kelly, of Loiter:— Brown eyes, regular noee, sallow complexion, thin faoe, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a soft black hat, short gray tweed ooat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of JOHN M'DAID, native of Meena- willigan, who stands charged with having, on the 31st December, 1890, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Conwal, assaulted Michael M'Ginley, by stabbing him with a knife:— Blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark hair; wore a low soft hat, dark jacket aad vest, striped tweed trowsers, and a nickel- placed watch guard; is a labourer. Lately returned from Scotland where his parents Aside at present; he is likely 4o return there. A Warrant for his arrest is in tne hands of the Churchhill Police. Letterkenny, 2nd Jan., 1891. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stsnds charged with having, on the 31st January, 1891, in the barony of Upper Castle- reagh, parish of Saintfield, broken into the house of Thomas Graham, aad stolen therefrom a Waterbury watch, value 12*.:— Very full red faoe, blue eyes, florid complexion, very stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a low hard hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, all much worn is a tramp. V; WILLIAM M'GREGORY ( burglary), described in issue of 7th November, not arrested. 24th September, 1890. ( 4966 c 81457.) Dublin. Description of MAN unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 27th day of Nov- ember, 1890, in the barony of Coolock, parish of Clontarf, attempted to obtain money by falsely representing, at the public- house of John Clinton, Clontarf, that he had, about a fortnight previously, purchased some drink there, and had not time to wait for change:— Speaks quickly and has good address, brown eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, oval faoe, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; wore a dark brown jerry hat, navy blue necktie with white spots, black short ooat, light tweed trowsers, and black vest; states he wss a tram conductor, is a porter at a library in Dublin. Description of JOSEPH BRYAN, native of Layerthrope, North York, England, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd February, 1891, in the barony of Ballybritt, parish of Birr, stolen the som of £ 3 13*. 2d. from the Canteen of the York and Lancaster Regiment, Birr BarracksKnock- kneed, gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, re- gular face, medium make, 5 feet Clinches high, about 26 years of age, brown hair; deserted in uniform, is now in plain clothes— description not known; is Lvice- Corporal, York and Lancaster Regiment. Parsonstown, 5th Feb., 1891. ( 7360 c— 85895. Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 4th February, 1891, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's Cavity t— PATRICK WILLIAMS, No. 1.244,19 years of age, about S feet 8 inches high, slight make, pale com- plexion, brown hair, blue eyes, short neee, wide mouth, long visage, formerly belonged to Dublin, parents reside at 1, Bolton- court, Dublin, fish dealers; dog bite'on left leg very slight mark on left cheek. The dress consists of— moleskin trowstrs and vest, shabby black jacket, Glengarry cap, and Blucher boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of hii conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and wil reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 6th February, 1891. Description of the undernamed Young Offender who, on the 4th Febmary, 1891, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County :— MARTIN CROWLEY, No. 1,310,18 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, stout make, sallow com- plexion, brown hair, gray eves, regular nose, wide month, round visage, formerly belonged to Kihnsh, mother, Catherine Crowley, resides at Crossfield, Ennis; father dead; little finger off left hand. The dress consists of— corduroy trowsers and vest, shabby black jacket, Glengarry cap, and Blucher boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his oonveyauoe. if arretted, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 6th February, 1891. Description of the undermentioned juvenile offender, who absconded from the Reformatory School at Philipstown, on January 10th:— JAMES GINN, No. 1,103, scar on left brow, forefinger of left hand crooked, cut- scar on ball of lett thumb, 19J years of age, 5 feet 8^ inches high, heavy and stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, broad nose, regular mouth, full visage. Formerly belonged to Londonderry. He broke into a house at Clonegown, and dressed himself in clothing foand therein, with the exception of his own strong Blucher boots. He took away from the house about £ 11. He may have made for England and is likely to enlist or emigrate. The Manager will defray the expense to be incurred, and reward the officer who si all take him before a Justice with the sum of £ 1. ( 372 H. C.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, FEBRUARY 10, 1891. Londonderry. Description of JAMES HAUGHEY, native of Knockaneal, who stinds charged with having, on the 28th October, 1890, in the barony of Longhinsholin, parish of Maghera, with two others, seriously assaulted one William Bradley, and having been bailed to appear at Maghera Petty Sessions on 29th November, 1890, to take his trial tor said offence, failed to do so:— He is an Irish- American, and has a small cut- mark on back of head ; dark eye » , regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed coat, dark trowsers, dark vest; is a farmer's eon. The District In- spector at Magherafelt holds a Warrant for this man's Magherafelt, 15 Dec., 1890. ( 5770 84359.) GEORGE WALKER ( released convict), des- cribed in issue of 12th Sept., not arrested. ( 329 H. C.", Longford. Description of DENIS M'CARTHY ( mother's sur- name Harvey), native of Longford, who stands charged with having, on the night of the 13th Januiry, 1891, in the barony of Ardagh, parish of Templemichael, accompanied by three others ( in custody), stolen from the premises of Thomas Shanley, publican, Main- street, Longford, a quarter barrel of porter and three currant cakes:— Wild nhkemfct looking- appewance, dark eyes, rather long nose, pale sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair, small dark moustache; usually dressed in cap and ragged grav tweed suit; is a labourer. May be accompanied by his wife, who is of the following description:— Large flat feet usually bare, regular nose, sallow complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hiur; usually lives by beggifcfc. Description of MICHAEL SULLIVAN, native of Smarmore, who stands changed with having, On the 4th February, 1891, in the barony of Ardee, parish of Smarmore, stolen the sum of £ 3 14s., the property of Peter Fitzsimons, of Smarmore .— Stooped shoulders, bluii eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, abont 35 years of age, fair hair; wore a hard hat, brown frieze cort, cord trowsers, frieze vest; is a labourer. Warrant in hands of the Ardee Police. Ardee, 7th February, 1691. ( 7£ 90 c.— 85950.) Tipperary, Description of JOHN BERGIN. native of Banna- drum, who stands chargod with havinc, on the 31st January, 1891, in the barony of Ikerrin, parish of Bourney, seriously assaulted Denis Delaney, of Banna- drum, by striking him on the head with * stone:— Walks with a slovenly gait, has a dirty appearance, no peculiar marks on persoa, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 53 years of ago, brown hair; wore a slouch hat, frieze coat, corduroy tro , vsors, tweed vest; is a fariner. Description of ISAAC FLOYD ( farmer), native if Lacknavea, who Is missing from his home at Lacknavea, in the barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Kilmas tulla; was seen in town of Nenagh on T3th November l. « pt, Mid has not ETNCO been lie . id dP. It ite feared that he has met with foul phy : About 57 years of age, 6 feet 2 inches high, Valks with a storm, short neck, fniddle finder of cach hand contracted, dark brown hair, bald on frfo& t of hftad; wort all his be4rd which is turning gray, monitabhe clipped short; were gray frieze coat, tweed trowsers, and vest, soft hat. Newport, 19th Dec., 1890. ( 6593 c.— 84507.) Description of THOMAS STAPLETON ( mother's surname Hayes), native of Piperhill, who stands charged with having, on the 1st of December, 18S0, in the barony of Kilnemanagh Upper, pariah of Toem, seriously assaulted Clement Horan, of Glenough Upper, by striking him on the head with some instrument, thereby placing his lite in danger :— Has old cut- mark on back of head and on forehead, brown full eyes, thiok nose, sallow complexion, rather square face, stout square make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 38 years of age, dark brown £ air; wore a black hat, dark frook- copt, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Description of PATRICK HOGAN, native of Ballykeveen, who stands charged with having, on the 15 th August, 1890, at Toem, in the barony of Kil- namanagh Upper, parish of Toem, unlawfully stabbed one Edmond Noonan in the breast with a knife, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, rather cocked nose, pale complexion, thin face, smart make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray suit of clothes; is a labourer. Dundrum, 16th August, 1890. ( 4170 80115.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, c 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, county Tipperary, on 19th July, 1888, for the larceny of a pair of blanket?, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 36 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at j Clonmel, where he resided before conviction, and where j his friends reside:— Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, medium month, sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 5A inches high, cut marie left side of head and betwaen tact thumb and forefinger, burn mark on left knee and shin. This man waa released from Mountjoy Prison on 20th December, 1889, and went to reside at Clon- mel. He failed tiO report himself to the R. I. C. there on the 2nd inst,, he is suspected of having committed larceny, and his present thereabouts is unknown. In the event of hfei arrest he should be dealt with under section 6 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 11%. ( 331 h. c.) JOHN LYNCH ( sheep stealing), described in issue of 3rd October, not arrested. THOMAS HAMILTON, alias DONNELLY, native of Armagh, ALEXANDER SAWTHORNE, alias SAMUEL JAMES NEAL, native of Cookstown, WILLIAM M'KNIGHT, alias CURRY, alias M'WILLIAMS, native of Armagh, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 28th October, 1890. ( 4213 c.— 80384.) PATRICK SHARKEY ( rape), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 517 c.— 73739.) Waterford. Description of a man who stated his name was DAVID LIVINGSTONE, and that he was a native of Ayr, Scotland, who stands charged with having, on the : 4th January, 1891, in the barony of Decies- without- Drum, pariah of Dungarvan, obtained under false pretences, from George F. Power, watchmaker, Dungarvan, two watches described elsewhere:— Wore a moustache hnd imperial, brown eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, thin face, slight make, 6 feet 6 or 7 inches high, abont 54 years of age, sandy- gray hair; wore a black felt hat, black overcoat, and gray trowsers. He stated he was agent for Wilson and Jenner, London, to coUeot debts. A Warrant for his arrest Dungarvan, 2nd Feb., 1891. ( 7814 c.— 85799.) Wexford. Description of PATRICK KELLY, alias MOFFAT, who stands charged with having, on the 10th January, in the barony of Goray, parish of Inch, committed an indecent assault and attempted rape on Frances JohnstOn:— Wants sotoe front teeth, dark eyes, rather long nose, dark complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feei; 11 inches high, atfoat 156 or 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard hat, pilot coat, brown check troweei- s and vest, bellows- tOngued boots with iron plates across the toes; is a tramp labourer. This man is not like a labourer, and he possesses some education. Warrant fw his arrest. Gorey, 17th January, 1891. ( 7017c 85272.) Description of EdWARD GRANNELLS, native of Enniscorthy, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd January, 1891, in & « barony of Scarawalsh , parish of St. Mary's, indecently ftssaulted Mary Anne Sullivan:— Slightly bow- l- g » ed, square should- v . sandy moustache, fue* * havad, light gray e regatar now," finish completion, round lace, Woi't make, 5 feet inches high, about 24 yews of BK*, looks ofde> vsandy hair; Wore a dark blue sack coat, dark blue trowsers find vest; is a . cot man. Description of HENRY JOHNSTON, native of county Wexford ( supposed New Ross), who stands charged with having, on the 8nd day of December, 1890, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilcommon, stolen five bags Of oats, the property of Margaret Jones, of Bohana :— Wants an upper front ttfoth, mark of boil on left cheek near ear, dark eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 27 years of age; wore an old gray tweed coat, troWsers, and vest, fill much worn; is a tramping labourer. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of District Inspector at Wicklow. Wicklow, 4th December, 1890. ( 6391 c « — 84062.) Description of PATRICK KERRIGAN, alias CONNOR or COMBER, native of Dumana^ cousjj Gal way, who stands charged with having, on th< 14th Jaly, 1890, in the barony of Upper Talbotstown, parish of Baltinglaas, committed perjury:— Gray eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, black Lair turning gray; wore a dark hard hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a horse and cattle dealer. Speaks with * Galway accent; deals in Connemara ponies; is known to the Police in Kildare, Carlow, Meath, Tyrone, Wexford, and Roscommon, where he has prosecuted parties for larceny from the person. Description of a juvenile offender who absconded from Glencree Reformatory School, on 14th December, at abont 8 o'clock:— PATRICK BYRNE, 2312, about 17 or 18 years of s » ge, 5 feet 3 or 4 in h" S high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, bl « e eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to Roundtown, Dublin. His mother, Mary Byrne, was servant in police station, Roundtown, some years ago. " P " and other tattoo marks on right sm, crosses, & o., on left. His uncle, Thomas Byrne, resides at 39, Doyle's- court, eff New- street, and his uncles Ned and Andy Byrne ore firemen on board a boat that plies between tbe North Wall and other ports. Tha School dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Cloth cap, ( Scotch make), coi uroy jacket, trowsers, and vest, elastic belt, strong nailed boots, No. 2312. A reward of £ 1 will be given for lis apprehension, and all expenses paid. December 15th, 1890. 366 h. O. Particulars relative to convict JOHN WILLIAM- SON, c. 35, convicted at Hilary Sessions, Dublin, on 11th January, 1886, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 26 years of age on coavic- tion, single; is a labourer; bom at Swords, r fitted in Dublin before conviction, where his friends reside. Description :— Black hair, hazel eyes, black eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, fresh complexion round visage, stout mafc'e, 5 feet 8 inches high j burn mark under right breast. This man ' as released from Maryboro' prison on licence, 17th December, 1889, and went to reside in Dublin. He recently left his lodgings, 6, Moore's- cottages, Upper Rutland- street, without notifying change of residence to the police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he shotiM be dealt with under sec. 6 of the Act 34 and 85 Vic., cap. H2. 15th December, 1890. ( 364 H. C.) ENGLISH POliCe. norfolkshire. Sussex, Description of SYDNEY BROOK, wanted on Warrant, for stealing moneys at Hove, the property of his m « 5ter*;— A c> er&, birthplace Brighton, about 19 years of age, about S feet 8 inches high, fair hair, gray eyes, fair complaxion, medium figure, no whiskers, very slight fair moustache, no be rd ; dressed in black aoat, vest, and trowsera, laie- up boots sup- posed to he new, bin ok hard felt hat; relations live at Brighton; may possibly enlist. Wanted here, charged with forging and uttering a bank cheque for £ 46 on the Commercial Bank JOHN BLAIR, a seedsman's clerk, 32 year's of age, 6 feet high, dark hair inclined to curl, dark moustache, no whiskers, brown eyes, long full face, fresh com- plexion proportionate build, walks erect, smart respectable appearance, and good looking; is a Scotch- man ; dressed in a dark round felt hat, and dark tweed jacket suit, stay have drab- coloured dost coat, or may change his clothing. His father is said to reside in Rothesay. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant granted. FORGERY OF BILLS OF EXCHANGE. J. W. PATTERSON ( forgery), Hue- and- Cry of 6th February, not arrested. ( 369 H. C.) JOHN BROWN ( embezzlement), described n issue of 6th February, net arrested. ( 370 H. O.) Lanarkshire. Description of two men who stand chirged with having, on the 16th of November, 1890, absconded from Chapelhall, in the county of Lanark, taking with them a dogoart, the description of which is annexed :— A two- wheeled dogcart, dark brown painted body, the lower panel divided into three parts and the upper one sparred, wheels and trams lined with red, dark blue cushions, both seat* shift with a spring from the front, and the footboard behind is wrought by a spring in the centre of it. and a half- moon- shapcd silverized handle on each side in front. 1. JOSEPH SMITH, abont 45 years of age, i feet 7 or 8 inches high, fair hair, whiskers, and moustache, beard cut to a point on chin, fair complexion, thin features, pretty large nose, and very small eyes, slender build, and English spoken; dressed in a felt hat, navy blue serge jacket suit, and dark blue waterproof coat. 2. His son, 90 or 21 years of age, fair hair and clean shaved," end about the same height as the father; dressed in a bl- ck felt hat, brown jacket suit, and dark blue waterproof coat. These men were canvassing for a firm of photo- graphers in Glasgow, and had the dogcart hired by the week, which was paid regularly for a time. The pony was their own. They will have sold both, and it is requested that tvery effort be made to trace thorn and machine. Airdrie Police Office, 20th Dec., 1890. ( 369 H. C.) Roxburghshire. FRAUD. Wanted here on a Magistrate's Warrant for having, between 4th and 7th instant, fraudulently obtained food and lodgings, also attempt to obtain money on false pretences, 1 WILLIAM KIDD, a tramp, gardener or sawmiller, native of Kirkden, Forfarshire, 38 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches in height, stoat build, fair hair, sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers, very red cheeks, wants part of thumb left hand, aad part of third finger right band; dress, dark tweed checked suit, heavy short dark overcoat, lined with light checked tweed, strong Watertight lacing boots, black hard felt hat, and carried a walking- stick, smart appearance and good address. This man tramps the country and calls on gardeners and asks for work. If successful he may work for a few days and then leaves without paying his lodgings. Has been convicted of fraud in the county of Forfar, and in the burgh of Kirkcaldy.
