THE i • Police Gazette, OR HUE- AND- CRY. Published for Ireland on every Tuesday and Friday. REOULATIOKTS. All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. r %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this > Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castl « , of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, ( to., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Description of WILLIAM M'CALLION, alias WILSON ( mother's surname M'Cullough;, native of Craigmore, county Antrim, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd September, 1890, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Drummaul, stolen from the dwellinghonse of William Stewart, a suit of clothes and a shawl ( which have since teen found pawned in Ballj mena):— Has a stoppage in his speech and is short- sighted, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 26 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cloth cap, gray tweed coat, and (' ark tweed trowsers, all old. Description of JOHN LOONEY, native of Bandon, who stands charged with having, on the 7th April, 1890, in tie barony of Kinalmeaky, parish of Bally- mcden, deserted his foor children, so that they became destitute, and are since the £ 3rd April, 1890, relieved in the Workhouse of the Bandon Union :— Dark eyes, regular note, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 40 veura of age, black hair; wore a dark tweed coat, brown tweecf trowsers and vest s is a labourer. Description of WILLIAM M'GREGORY, native of Scotland, who stands charged with having, on the 2? rd day of September, 1890, in the barony of fveagh Lower, lower half, parish of Seapatrick, entered the dwellinghouse of William Dale, of Dromnsgally, and stolen therefrom the sum of £ 2, consisting of two notes, numbers unknown:—£ car on right side of neck, speaks with a Scotch accent, ajray or blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin • ace, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 yetrs of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed cap, dark coat, checked trowsers, dark vest, and military boots ; is a discharged soldier, a shoemaker, and also works as a farm labour. Description of PATRICK HARRIS ( mother's sur- name Joyce), JOHN HARRIS ( mother's turaame Joyce), and JOHN POWER ( mother's surname Spittle), natives of Athy, who stand charged with having, on the 24th August, 1890, in. the barony of Narragh and Reban West, parish of St. John's, taken part in a riot, and assaulted the police:— 1. May have wounds on head and face caused by blows of policeman's baton, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round shaved faie, stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 24 years of age; wore a brown fur cap, thort black coat, moleskin trowsers, and dark vest; is a ( anal boatman. 2. Wants some teeth in front of mouth, may have wounds on head and face caused by batons, gray eyes, short nose, sallow complexion, short face, medium make, 5 feet 6 mches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair, shaves all face except brown moustache; wore a bhek cap, gray frock coat, moleskin, trowsers, and dark vest; is a canal boatman. 3. King's. ^ * Description of TWO MEN, names unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 19th Sep- tember, 1890, about 9| p. m., in the barony of Bally- cowan, parish of Durrow, entered the hou » e of Peter GeoghoKfin, of Ballinamona, and robbed him of the sum of £ 25, consisting of. one ten pound and three five pound notes, numbers unknown:— 1. Shaved face, sandy moustache, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches hi ; h, about 24 years of age; wore a black hat and short datk coat 2. Fair complexion, fhaved face, 5 feat 8 or 9 inches high, about 24 yeara of age; wore a black hat and dark tweed suit. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5 th September, 1890, absconded from the Philipstown. Reformatory School, at King's County :— JAMES JONES, No. 1309, about 17 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray oycs, ordinary nose, regular mouth, oval visage.; formerly belonged to Tipper< iry, and his parents reside at Bansha- road, Tipperary. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of Glengarry cap, black cloth tunic, moleskin vest, corduroy trowsers, and Blucher boots, Tho Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of ms conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may captnre him with XI. 8th September, 1890. 343 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 5th September, 1890, absconded from the Philipstown Retormatory School, at King's County :— JOSEPH DOYLE, No. 1270, 17 years of age, 5 feet 4 inchos high, mediam make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, regular nose, ordinary mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to Carlow, parents dead; seven dote, cross, and letter " J " on left arm, scar on right temple. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of Glengarry cap, ' corduroy tunic, moleskin vest, corduroy irowsers, and Blijcher boots. • The- Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conve> anca, if arretted, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward" the person who mqy capture him with £ 1. 8th September, 1893. ( 343 H. C.) THOMAS SHERLOCK ( young offender), des- cribed in issue of 2nd September, not arrest- id. ( 330 H. C.) Leitrim. Description of THOMAS TRAVERS ( mother's surname M'Loughlin), native of Gorvagh Glebe, who stands chargcd with having, on the 28th day of August, 1890, in the barony of Drumahaire, parish of Killinummery, assaulted Catherine Hannon, thereby causing her life to be in danger, and for whose arrest a Warrant is in the lands of the District Inspector at Drumahaire:— Small fair moustache, shaves rest of face ; hooked nose, fresh complexion, oval face, rather stout mbke, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, brown hair, cut short behind, but long on top of head; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; i) a farmer's son, and a labourer. Descriptkn of JOSEPH HUGHES, native of Mont y ore, who is a person of weak mind, and separated from his mother and brother at Cookstown Junction on 2ad instant, and has not since been heard of. It is feared that he may have met with foul play:— Dark eyes, short nose, dark complexion, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, wants two front teeth upper jaw: wore a dark tweed coat, blue striped tro wsers, dark brown vest. Description of JOHN LYNCH ( mother's surname Brien), native of Rea Roe, who stands charged with having, on the night. of 18th or morning of 19th August, 1890, in the barony of Iffa and Offa West, parish of Shanrahan, stolen one aheap and two lambs value for £ 3 10s., the property of his stepfather, Thomas Byrne, said sheep and lambs have been discovered:— Tattooed on one of bis wrists, slightly bow- legged, brown eye3, slightly cocked nose, fresh complexion, TO and face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair; wore a slouched soft hat, gray tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, gray tweed vest, sandy monstache, shaves all his face, slight scrofula on face. Will endeavour to cross to England or Scotland whertf he had previously spent some time. Information sworn and Warrant in hand of Clogheen Constabulary. . Cahir, 29th August, 1890. Description of PATRICK HOGAN, native of Ballykeveen, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1890, at Toem, in the barony of Kil- namansgh Upper, parish of Toem, unlawfully stabbed one Edmond Noonan in the breast with a knife, thereby placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, rather cocked nose, pa'e complexion, thin face, smart make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray suit of clothes; is a labourer. Dundrum, 16th August, 1890- ( 4170 80115.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, c 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, county Tipperary, on 19th July, 1888, for the larceny of a pair of blankets, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 26 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Clonmel, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside:— Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, m « dium mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 5^ inches high, cut mark left side of head and between left thumb and forefinger, burn mark on left knee and shin. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 20th December, 1889, and went to reside at Clon- mel. He failed to report himself to the R. I. C. there on the 2nd inst, he is suspected of having committed larceny, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his nrrest he should be dealt with under section 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 331 H. C.) MARTIN MAHER ( cattle stealing), described in issue of 9th September, not arrested. Description of THOMAS HAMILTON, alias DONNELLY, native of Armagh, ALEXANDER HAWTHORNE, alias SAMUEL JAMES NEAL, native ot Cookstown, WILLIAM M'KNIGHT, alias CURRY, alias M'WILLIAMS, native of Armagh, who stand charged with having, on the night of 17th or morning of 18th August, 1890, in the barony of Lower Strabane, parish of Urney, broken into the Roman Catholic Chapel, Melmount, and stolen there- from 1 silver chalice and 1 silver cross ( See Hue- and- Cry, dated 22nd August, 1890) ;— J. Large scar of burn on right shoulder and armpit, marks of King's evil under left ear and Uader chin • gray eyes, regular nose, fresh compl xion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 2) years of age, brown hair; wore a gray cap, gray coat, gray trowssrs. and black vest; is a labourer. TWO MEN ( assault and robbery), described in issue of 9th September, not arrested. Mullingar, 26th June, 1890. ( 3055 c.— 78223.) Wexford. PATRICK LARDY ( embezzlement), described in issue of 15th August, not arrested. New Ross, 1890. ( 72109 c.— 76532.) THOMAS MORAN ( embezzling), Hue- and- Cry, 4th July, 1890, not arrested. ( 1951 c.— 76244.) Wicklow. Description of PETER M'KEON, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 29th September, 1890. in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Newcastle Upper, being found dressed in female's clothes, and refusing to give any account of himself, except that he was some time ago at Creagh, near Ballinasloe, as monitor of a school there, and went about as a poor scholar:— Old sore- marks on small of back and on right side of buttock, also on left temple, blue eyes, slightly cocked nose, sandy com- plexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, sandy hair cut short— military fashion. Bray, 30th September, 1890. ( 5077 81647.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. G Division. Particulars relative to Convict HUGH MUL- DOON, alias WILLIAM JOHN JACKSON, A 756, convicted at Trinity Sessions, Belfast, county Antrim, on the 10th July, 1833, for larceny and a previous conviction for felony, ana sentenced to 8 years' penal servitude, and 5 years' police supervision:— 35 years of age on conviction, single, dealer; born at Omagh, resided before conviction at Belfast; dark brown hair turning gray, hazel eyes, dark eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, mediam make, 5 feet 5\ inches high, lost right eve. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on Licence, on 16th August, 1890, and went to Belfast. He left his lodgings in that city on 22nd July, ultimo, without notifying same to the police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he thould ba dealth with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5. 15th September, 18S0. ( 345 H, C.) Particulars relative to Convict MARY MACVICKER, B 165, convicted at Trinity Sessions, Castlebar, county Mayo, on 15th June, 1886, for larceny and Jormer conviction, and sentenced to 5 years'penal servitude :— 40 years of age on conviction, married is a dealer, prison trade— knitting and laundry, born at Roscom- mon, resided before conviction at Swinford:— Gray hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, medium nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high, cut mark over right eye. This woman was released on licence, from Golden Bridge Refuge, on 14th October, 1889 ; she notified to the R. I. C. at Londonderry, on the 6th instant, that she was going to Newtowncunningham, but she has not reported herself there, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, 21st August, 1890. ( 339 H. C.) STANLEY MARTIN ( embezzlement), described in issue of 5th August, not arrested. ( 323 H. C.) Montgomeryshire. BENJAMIN JAMES and JOHN MORGAN ( wife desertion), described in Hue- and- Cry of 4tb July, 1890, not arrested. ( 320 H. C. Norfolkshire. Wanted at King's Lynn, a man of the following description, for stealing, on the 9th instant, from the platform of the railway station, a brown leather hand- bag ( recovered) from which he abstracted a cheque, dated 7th or 8th September, 1890, for £ 50, on Coutts and Co's., Bank, London, drawn by Francis Ridley in favour of R. O. Ridley, which was not endorsed, also about 20 blank cheques of Gurney and Go's Bank, all numbered ° 19318 :— He gave the name of GRANT, which may be fictitious, aged about 28 years, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, fresh complexion, brown or light brown hair, small ginger moustache, spare build; dressed in black coat, gray or mixed trowsers, black felt hat; gentlemanly appearance, and stated he was a commercial. Will probably utter Coutts and Co's. cheque, No. p/ 16 6034, and may issue forged cheques in the name of R. O. Ridley, on Gurney's Bank, to hotel or lodging house keepers. Please warn all bankers, hotel proprietors, and others, and if arrested wire to GEORGE WARE, Chief Constable. Police Office, King's Lynn, 13th September, 1890. ( 344 H. C.) Staffordshire. Wanted for stealing money and bed- clothes:— MINA JURY, alias ADA LEMPERIE, alias M. L. SMITH, alias AGNES CALLAGHAN or CLARE, a Convict on licence, Convict office No. 38887, 53 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, gray Lair, hazel eyes, lost several teeth, scars on left forearm, stays at common lodging- houses. She committed the theft at a common lodging- house in this borough. She is also wanted by the Metropolitan Police for failing to notify her change of residence.
