BBOTTLATIOWH. ffT All Notions intended for insertion in the Huei- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated, by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn ; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respooting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a " Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Wan- ant in their possession when making the arrest. Should irregularitios arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to he g<? od . enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castl « *, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fcc., and of any circumstanoes rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry" no longer necessary. Description of JOHN LACY, who has stated that he is a native of Little Patrick- street, Waterford city, and again of Lacystown, county Kilkenny, who ia in custody here, charged with having, on die 5th August, 1890, in the barony of Kilcoursey, parish of Kilbride, stolen the sum of 15J. 6d. from the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Dunican, of Clara:— Blue eyes, regular nose, sandy freckled complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 21 years of age, red hair 5 wore a black peak cap, navy blue jacket, and gray tweed trowsers; says that he belonged to the Kilkenny Mihtia, and trained in Clonmel ir. 1889; joined the 18th Royal Irish Regi- ment at Tralee on 4th July, 1889, and discharged therefrom on 5th May, 1890, the cause of discharge he does not assign ; states also that he was in Philipstown Reformatory; it is also believed that he has been con- victed of larceny in the Queen's County. He may be charged with similar offences elsewhere. Tullamore, 6th August, 1890. ( 3896 0.— 79668.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on Sunday, the 6th July, 1890, absconded from the Philipsto wn Reformatory School at King's County:— THOMAS SHERLOCK, No. 1,073, 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight make, pale complexion, dark brown hair, weak brown eyes, long nose, small mouth, oval visage, two middle toes of right foot stuck together; dressed in a soft felt hat, blue serge jacket, corduroy trowsers and vest, Blucher boots. Formerly belonged to 56, Beresford- street, Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justioe, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 330 H. C.) BRIDGET SHEEHY ( arson), described in Hue- and- Cry of 6th May; not arrested. ( 594 c.— 73615.) Londonderry. Particulars relative to Convict GEORGE WALKER, c 62, convicted at Londonderry Quarter Sessions, on the 4th June, 1886, for burglary, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 52 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction; his friends reside at Rosemount, Londonderry:— Brown hair, blue eyes, sandy eyebrows, large nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, bald on top of head, cut mark on right temple. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on 31st May, 1890, and went to Londonderry. He failed to make his usual monthly report on 30th ult,, to the R. I. C. at Rosemount, Londonderry, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 329 H. C.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, AUGUST 378, 1890. Louth. Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd instant, in the barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Haggardstown, stolen the following articles from the Roman Catholic Chapel of Haggardstown:— A silver chalice, ciborium, silver spoon, and collecting plate 1. Stooped shoulders, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a black frock coat, light trowsers, and vest. 2. Full face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about SO years of age, fair hair, sandy moustache; wore a short black coat, white moleskin trowsers, light vest. Dundalk, 26th May, 1890. Description of MARGARET FITZPATRICK, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th day of August, 1890, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, in her possession six £ 5 notes on the Ulster Bank, Limited, numbered m follows—( 1.) 25438 ( 2.) 46197 ( 3 ) 90252 ( 4 ) A370 ( 5.) 8383 ( 6.) 13404, No. 1 marked on back " Richard Higgins, Naas, 22nd Feb., ' 90, Hide and Skin Importer" No. 3 has " No. 78" in blue pencil on back, which it is believed she has stolenBald on top of head, gray eyes, large nose, fresh complexion, fail face, very stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 55 or 60 years of age, gray hair wore a plaid . shawl, which appears to have been recently purchased; is a tramping vagrant. This woman was arrested in Monaghan for drunkenness on evening of 4th inst., and has been remanded to Armagh Gaol for eight days, to enable the police to make inquiry as to how she became possessed of the money. She frequents the several towns iu Armagh, Cavan, Monaghan, and Tyrone. She only came to Monaghan the day of her arrest from the direction of Armagh. Monaghan, 6th August, 1890. ( 3895 c.— 79667). Description of EDWARD M'CAFFREY ( mother's surname Boyle), native of Tatty- gormican, county Fermanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 13th July, 1890, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of Clones, assaulted Miss Madden, of Aghafin House:— Dark eyes, large nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black hat, black frock coat, gray tweed trowssrs, and black vest; is a labourer. Warrant in tho hands of the Polioe. Clones, 25th July, 1890. ( 3605 c.— 79258). Queen'g. Description of MICHAEL MURPHY, native of Mountmellick ( name and native place supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1890, at Jamestown, in the barony of Portnahinch, parish of Lea, unlaw- fully and forcibly broken into the dwelling- house of Patrick Carroll, and did take, steal, and carry away a coat and trowsers ( since recovered), value for about ten shillings:— Left eye small or closed, red face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a hard dark hat, dark coat, light tweed trowsers; looks like a boatman. Maryboro', 28th July, 1890. 3725 C.— 79366. Sligo. JOHN M'DERMOTT ( stealing cattle), described in issue of 15th August, not arrested. Sligo, 4th June, 1890. ( 2526 77304). Tipperary. Description of PATRICK HOGAN, native of Ballykeveen, who stands charged with having, on the 15th August, 1890, at Toem, in the barony of Kil- namanagh Upper, parish of Toem, unlawfully stabbed one Edmond Noonan in the breast with a knife, thereby placing his lifo in danger:— Gray eyes, rather cocked nose, pa'o complexion, thin face, smart make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, fair hair ; wore a gray suit of clothes; is a labourer. Dundrum, 16th August, 1890. ( 4170 a— 80115.) Description of MARTIN MAHER, native of Capparoe, county Tipperary, who stands charged w't'i having, on the 21st July, 1890, in the barony of Owney and Arra, parish of Burgesbeg, stolen 4 head of 11- year- old cattle, which have been since recovered:— Small tender eyes, small cocked nose, sallow complexion, small face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, no beard ; wore a tweed cap, dark brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, laced boots; is a labourer. Likely to emigrate. Warrant in the hands of the Police. Nenagh, 25th July, 1890. ( 3657 a— 79259.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, c 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, county Tipperary, on 19th July, 1888, for the larceny of a pair of blankets, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 26 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Clonmel, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside:— Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, modium mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet inches high, cut mark left side of head and between left thumb and forefinger, burn mark on left knee and shin. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 20th December, 1889, and went to reside at Clon- mel. He failed to report himself to the R. LC. there on the 2nd inst, he is suspected of having committed larceny and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under section 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 331 H. C.) Tyrone. Description of THOMAS HAMILTON, alias DONNELLY, native of Armagh, ALEXANDER HAWTHORNE, alias SAMUEL JAMES NEAL, native of Cookstown, WILLIAM M'KNIGHT, alias CURRY, alias M'WILLIAMS, native of Armagh, who stand charged with having, on the night of 17th or morning of 18th August, 1890, in the baroay of Lower Strabane, parish of Urney, broken into the Roman Catholic Chapel, Melmount, and stolen there- from 1 silver chalice and 1 silver cross ( Sae Hue- and- Cry, dated 22nd August, 1890) s— 1. Large scar of burn on right shoulder and armpit, marks of Kiog's evil under left ear and under chin 5 gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, rounl face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 20 years of age, brown hair 5 wore a gray cap, gray coat, gray trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. 2. Scar on left temple; dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, stoat make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cap, long dark coat, dark trowsers and vest ; is a tailor. 3. Large dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, tbin face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cap, black coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a labourer. These men are arrested and remanded. They may have committed other offences elsewhere. Strabane, 26th August, 1890. ( 4213 c.— 80384.) PATRICK SHARKEY ( rape), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 517 c.— 73739.) Waterford Description of a tramping WOMAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged on suspicion with having, on the night of the 8th or morning of the 9th August, 1890, at Glenpatrick, in the barony of Upperthird, parish of Rathgormac, burglariously stolen from the dwelling- house of Johanna Brazil the follow- ing articles of clothing, the property of Johanna Brazil and Ellen Whelan, viz.:— 1 brown shawl with gray stripes, 1 black knitted sbawl, 1 red plaid shawl, 1 red Cashmere dress, and 1 blue flannel petticoat; all value for about £ 2 :— Large fat face appeared to be swollen, medium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 50 years of age, gray hair; wore a white cap, gray shawl, and laced boots; is a tramp. Information sworn and Warrant issued. Portlaw, 12th August, 1890. ( 4043 c.— 79913.) MICHAEL POWER ( indecent assault, & c.), described in issue of 15th August, not arrested. Portlaw, 18th May, 1890. ( 2243c 76764.) Westmeath. Description of TWO MEN, names unknown, who stand charged with having, in company with Thomas Bracken ( arrested), on the 25th June, 1890, in the barony of Corkaree, parish of Rathconnell, assaulted one Patrick Commer, and robbed him of the sum of £ 1 15*., consisting of one pound note with " Parsons" written on back of it, also a bit out of one corner, a half sovereign, and five shillings in silver :— 1. Sallow complexion, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, no beard or whiskers; wore a black soft hat, tweed coat and trowsers 3 is a cattle drover. • 2. Native of Longford, thin nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair, wore all his beard, which is black, with moustache much heavier than beard, dirty- looking face; wore a black torn coat and brown tweed trowsers. THOMAS MORAN ( embezzling), Hue- and- Cry, 4th July, 1890, not arrested. ( 1951 c.— 76244.) DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. 6 Division. Particulars relative to Convict MARY MAcVICKER, B 165, convicted at Trinity Sessions, Castlebar, county Mayo, on loth June, 1886, for larceny and former conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 40 years of age on conviction, married, is a dealer, prison trade— knitting and laundry, born at Roscom- mon, resided before conviction at Swinford:— Gray hair, gray eyes, light eyebrows, medium nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 3 inches high, cut mark over right eye. This woman was released on liconce, from Golden Bridge Refuge, on 14th October, 1889; she notified to the R. I. C. at Londonderry, on the 6th instant, that she was going to Newtowncunningham, but she Las not reported herself there, and her present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of her arrest she should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. General Prisons Board, 21st August, J1890. 1( 339 H. C.) BENJAMIN JAMES and JOHN MORGAN ( wife desertion), described in Hue- and- Cry of 4th July, 1890, not arrested. ( 320 H. C.) Staffordshire. Wanted for stealing money and bed- clothes:— MINA JURY, alias ADA LEMPERIE, alias M. L. SMITH, alias AGNES CALLAGHAN or CLARE, a Convict on licence, Convict office No. 88887, 53 years of age, 5 feat 5 inches high, fresh complexion, gray bair, hazel eyes, lost several teeth, scars on left forearm, stays at common lodging- houses. She committed the theft at a common lodging- house in this borough. She is also wanted by the Metropolitan Police for failing to notify her change of residence. See p. 5. Description of GEORGE BRYANT, wanted on Warrant for indecently assaulting a girl:— Slightly knock- kneed, and carries his head forward when walking, dark brown eyes, fresh complexion, thin figure, about 5 feet ll| inches high, 35 years of age, dark brown hair and moustache; dressed in a black hard felt hat, grayish tweed jacket, light striped trowsers; is a carpenter, married aad has four children; resided in Hove. Edinburgh. p Wanted in this city on a Magistrate'^ Warrant, charged with embezzling several thousand pounds:— PETER COUPER, of the firm of Couper and Cook, accountants, George- street, Edinburgh, 43 jears^ f age ( looks older), 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build proportionate, square shouldered, fresh com- plexion, pleasant looking, bright eyes, iron gray hair turning white, side whiskers and mouBtache, shaved on chin, generally, dressed well in dark suit and black THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, AUGUST 379, 1890. t hat, smart gentlemanly appearance, walks quickly, speaks Scotch accent. Will likely endeavour to leave the country. Folic i officers are requested to make special search and inquiry at all outward- bound vessels, railway stations, hotels, boarding- houses, and other likely places, with the view of tracing and securing the arrest of this man. Any information as to his where- abouts or likely to lead to trace of him, to be at once communicated to the Chief Constable, City Police Office, Edinburgh. W. M'EWAN, District Inspector. Criminal Investigation Department, Edinburgh, 13th August, 1890. ( 338 H. C ) Glasgow. EMBEZZLEMENT OF £ 223 17s. 9d. Wanted hero for embezzlement of the above sum, the property of Messrs. W. B. Dick and Co, Oil Merchants and Refiners, 22, Hope- street, of this city ARGYLE LITSTER, a clerk, 17 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, barefaced, face rather long, fair hair and complexion, rather slender made; dressed in a dark brown felt hat. and a brown check tweed j ackot suit. Resided with his mother ( a widow), at 240, Claythorn- street, Glasgow. Absconded on 30th ult, and will probably « ndeavour to leave the country, if he has not already left. Please cause particular search and enquiry to be made at hotels, shipping, shipping offices, and all other likely places, and if found, arrest and communicate with J. BOYD. Chief Constable, here. Central Polioe Chambers, Glasgow, lst August, 1890. ( 334 H. C.) Renfrewshire. Wanted here, on a SherifFs Warrant, charged with the theft of £ 19 2s. 7d., and a leather Gladstone bag, JOHN MARTIN, a rivetter, 83 years of age, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches in height, a native oi Dumbarton, sandy fair hair and moustache, shaved cheeks, ordinary make, scar on bridge of nose, stiff gait when walking, and speaks with Scotch accent. Dressed when he left his home at 38 White- street, Govan, on 22nd ult., in a black cord shooting coat and vest, light gray tweed trowsers, and round black felt hat. Accused will probably seek employment as a rivetter in a shipbuilding yard. Police officers are requested to make particular search and enquiry for the above- described person, and should he be traced or arrested, communicate with the subscriber. Murray, Lieutenant of 3rd Hussars, which was stolen from his room in Charles Fort Barracks, on 29th June, 1890, by some person at present unknown :— An old gold double- cased lever watch, made by Alexander Smart, of London, very large, number not known. Description of a silver cross, the property of the Committee of the Roman Catholic Chapel of Melmount, which was stolen from the Chapel of Melmount, near Strabane, parish of Urney, barony of Lower Strabane, on the night of 17th or morning of 18th August, 1890:— Silver cross, about 7 inches ling and 3 inches wide, used in connection with a remonstrance; value for about £ 2. Between the nights of Friday the 18th and Monday the 21st ult., the warehouse of Messrs. F. H. Russ and Company, Farriers, 50, 52, and 54, Buchanan- street, here, was entered by going along the roof, breakiag a pane of glass in the workshop window opposita the snib, and the following articles stolen, viz.:— A sealskin jacket, tight fitting, 45 iaches deep, trimmed with skunk fur of a dark brown colour oa neck, front, sleeves, and skirt, fastens with hooks and eyes, down front, stamped in five places R/ 3 iu ink, and the name Blair in at least two places, lining wanting, almost new, value £ 20; a sealskin jacket, tight fitting, 38 inches deep, the name Salmond iu one place, lining wanting, value £ 20; a short tight fitting seal- skin jacket, 22 inches deep, lined with brown quilted satin, one pocket in lining, has a small square tab at bick of neck with " F. H. Russ, Manufacturing Furrier, 50, 52, and 54, Bu. hsnin- street, Glasgow," on it, value £ 15 ; seven pieces of sealskin, cat ready for making a jacket, 42 inches deep, R/ 5 stamped on each piece, and " Allison " on some of the pieces, value £ 15 ; and two jacket fronts, a top and under sleeve, and two side gores of a sealskin jacket, R/ 4 on each piece and the name " Hewitt" on some of them. The above Reward is offered to any person who will give such information as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the thieves, and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of pro- perty recovered.
