RHOXTLATIONS. ear All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. * » * Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < fec., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. M'ILROY, 16 years of age, brown hair, gray weak oyes, gray eyebrows, straight nose, ordinary mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high; is a farm boy, born at Belfast; his parents reside at 195, Urney- street; Samuel Cross, 135, Argyle- street, is his uncle. Cut- mark on right eyebrow, cut- mark on left side of fore- head, dots < n both hands, also dot on back of left forearm. Gle and Irised in a moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, cap, blue and white striped shirt, and red kcheck tie. BALIE, 17 years of age, black hair, dark fowu eyes?"\ brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular ' nxouth, ires'i complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet high j is a farm boy, born at Bangor; his - parents reside at 1, Church- street, Bangor. Scar on r top of head, chicken- chested, scar above right eyebrow. . Dressed in a moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, and red and black check tie. Both likely to hire with farmers. M'llroy has iends in Cookscown. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of their conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest , Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who kmay capture them with £ 1 for each boy. 332 H. Cork Description of TIMOTHY M'CARTHY, native of Coolboy, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 2nd August, 1890, in the barony of West Division West Carbery, parish of Cahera^ h, and townland of Ballyourane, stolen three bullocks ( sinci recovered), the property of Thomas Crowley, of Bally- ourane :— Down- looking, slightly bow- legged; gray or blue eyes, broad nose, fair complexion, broad tare, low- set stout make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, abont 20 years of age; wore a very old black Jerry hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, old patched boots; is a labourer. Particulars relative to Convict JAMES BYRNE, c. 9, convicted at Dublin City Sessions, on 1st October, 1885, for larceny from person, an<^ sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 27 years of age on con- viction, single; is a shoemaker; born at Kingstown, resided in Dublin before conviction:— Black hair, blue eyes, dark eyebrows, long thin nose, small month, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 fe « . t 1- J inches high, brown flesh mark on left elbow, cut scar over right eyebrow. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 25th September, 1889, and went to reside in dublin. He left the North Dublin Union without reporting himself to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. He was seen selling racing cards at the Curragh en 24th ult. In the event of bis arrest he should be dealt with undor sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 331 H. C.) galway. Description of JOHN THORNTON Martin) ( mother's surname Halloran), THOMAS THORN- TON ( Stephen) ( mother's surname Naughton), JAMES CASHEN ( mother's surname Marmion), and WILLIAM CASHEN ( mother's surname Marmion), natives of Kilbricken, who stand charged with having, on the 4th August, 1890, in the barony of Moycullen, parish of Kilcummin, seriously assaulted John Grealish, of Kilbricken, so as to endanger his life:— 1. Mark of old cut on forehead, rather long teeth, slightly stooped shoulders, walks smartly, gray eyes, rather short thin nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cap with tassel, flann « l bawneen coat, and white flannel trowsers; is a labourer and boatman. 2. Large month, tender eyes slight cast, long nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7£ inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; wore a soft black hat, flannel bawneen coat, and white flannel trowsers; is a labourer and boatman. 3. Mark of old cut on nose, heavy gait, brown eyes, thick straight nose, sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 29 years of age, black hair; wore a soft slouching black hat, gray coat, much worn gray trowsers and vest i is a labourer and boat nan. 4. Regu'ar mouth, blue eyes, long thin nose, fresh complexion, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years ot age, lair hair; wore a soft black hat, flannel bawneen coat, and white flannel trowsers; is a labourer and boatman. Warrants for the arrest of these four men are in the hands of Sergeant Smyth, Rosmuck Station. Oughterard, 9th August, 1890. ( 3980 c 79820.) Description of JOHN HEAPHY, native of Fermoy, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 26th June, 1890, in the barony ot Kiltartan, parish of Kilmacduagh, absconded, em- bezzling the sum of 1 - is. Id. from his emplover, Mr. Michael M'Carthy, of Gort:— Right eye bloodshot, full brown beard, small eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown hair; wore a round brown hat, much worn, faded brown coat, blue trowsers; is a profes- sional tramp. Description of Sapper JOHN EGLESTON, 22,802, 17th Battalion, Field Company, Royal Engineers, wbo absented himself without leave from the Curragh Camp, on 7th Jnne, 1890:— Vaccination mark on left arm, scar on right side ot head, blue eyes, light brown hair, fresh complexion, 5 feet 6J inches high, 22 years of age; dressed in regimentals; is a carpenter; born in the parish of St. Peter's, Dublin, and enlisted at Birr. Description of JOHN LACY, who hns stated that he is a native of Little Patrick- street, Waterford city, and again of Lacystown, county Kilkenny, who is in custody here, charged with having, on the 5th An ,- ust, 1890, in the barony of Kilcoursey, parish o< Kilbride, stolen the sum of 15s. fd. from the dwelling- house of Elizabeth Dunican, of Clara:— Blue eyen, regular nose, sandy freckled complexion, regular fac*\ medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 21 years of age, red hair ; wore a black peak cap, navy blue jacket, and gray tweed trowsers; says that he belonged to the Kilkenny Militia, and trained in Clonmel in 1889; joined the 18th Royal Irish Regi- ment at Tralee on 4sh July, 1889, and discharged therefrom on 5th May, 1890, the cause of discharge he does not assign ; states also that he was in Philipstown Reformatory ; it is also believed that he has been con- victed of larceny in the Queen's County. He may be charged with similar offences elsewhere Tullamore, 6th August, 1890. ( 3896 c.— 79668.) Description of th* undernamed young offender, who, on Sonday, the 6th July, 1890, absconded from the Philip- tc- vn Reformatory School at King's County:— THOMAS SHERLOCK, No. 1,073, 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight make, pale complexion, dark brown hair, weak brown eyes, long nose, small mouth, oval visage, two middle toes of right foot stuck together; dressed in a soft felt hat, blue serge jacket, corduroy trowsers and vest, Blucher boots. Formerly belonged to 56, Beresford- street, Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if aricsted, to the nearest Justicc, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 330 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 30th June, 1890, absconded trom the Philipstown Reformatory School, at King's County: MARTIN CROWLEY, No. 1,810, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, strong make but not stout, fre « h complexion, brown hair, gray eyes; formerly belonged to Kilrush, county Clare, where his fathor resides; little finger off left hand. The school dress consists of m< leskin trowsers, black moleskin vest, corduroy jacket, leather leggings ( at time of leaving), Glengarry cap, Blucher boots. The boy is believed to be now tramping in country parts barelooted. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if ai rested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 328 H. C. BRIDGET SHEEHY ( arson), described in Hue- and- Cry of 6th May; not arrested. ( 594 73615.) Longford, Description of JOHN GALLIGAN ( mother's surname Mulstay), native of Granard, who stands charged with having, on the 10th day of August, 1860, in tie barony of Granard, parish ot Granard, entered the dwelling- bouse of Bridget Sheridan, of Creevy, and stolen therefrom ten sovereigns and two woollen plaid shirts:— Walks erect, active appearance, gray eyes, regular nose, rather fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 35 years of age, brown hair turning gray, light brown beard clipped short; wore an old brown tweed coat, tweed tiowsers and vest; is a tramp labourer and cattle drover. Granard, 11th August, 1890. ( 4035 c 78892.) Londonderry. Particulars relative to Convict GEORGE WALKER, C 62, convicted at Londonderry Quarter Sessions, on the 4th June, 1886, for burglary, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 52 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction; bis friends reside at Rosemount, Londonderry:— Brown hair, blue eyes, sandy eyebrows, large nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches higb, bald on top of head, cut mark on right temple. This man was released irom Maryboro' Prison on 31st May, 1890, and went to Londonderry. He failed to make his usual monthly report on 30th nit., to the R. I. C. at Rosemount, Londonderry, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with nnder sea. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 329 H. C.) Louth, Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd instant, in th « barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Haggardstowi-, stolen the following articles from the Roman Catholic. Chapel of Haggardstown:— A silver chalice, ciborium, silver spoon, and collecting plate'— 1. Stooped shoulders, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, dark hair turning gray $ wore a black frock coat, light trowsers, and vest. 2. Full face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of aee, ' air hair, sandy moustache; wore a short black coat, white moleskin trowsers, light vest. Dundalk, 26th May, 1890. Monaghan, Description of MARGARET FITZPATRICK, native place unknown, who Hands charged with having, on the 4th day of August, 1890, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, in her possession six £ 5 notes on the Ulster bank, Limited, numbered as follows— ( 1.) 25438 ( 2.) 46197 ( 3 ) 90252 ( 4.) A370 ( 5.) 8383 ( 6.) 13404, No 1 marked on back " Richard Higgins, Haas, 22nd Feb., ' 90. Hide and Skin Importer" No. 3 has" " No 7* " in blue pencil on back, which it is believed she has stolen:— Bald on top of head, gray eyes, large nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 55 or 60 years of age, gray hair; wore a plaid shawl, which appears to have been recently purchased ; is a tramping vagrant. This woman WAS arrested in Monaghan for drunkenness on evening of 4th inst, and has been remanded to Armagh Gaol for eight day, to enable the police to make inqairy as to how she became possessed of the money. She frequents tba several towns ia Armagh, Cavan, Monaghan, and Tyrone. She only came to Monaghan the day of her arrest from the direction of Armagh. Monaghan, 6th August, 1890. ( 3895 c — 79 667). Description of EDWARD M'CAFFREY ( mother's surname Boyle), native of Tatty- gormican, county Fermanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 13th Jaly, 1890, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of Clones, assaulted Miss Madden, of Aghafin House:— Dark ejes, large nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 22 years ot age, dark hair; wore a black hat, black frock coat, gray tweed trowsers, and black vest; is a labourer. Warrant in the hands of the Police. Clones, 25th July, 1890- ( 3605 c.— 79258). Queen's. Description of MICHAEL MURPHY, native of Mountmellick ( name and native place supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1890, at Jamestown, in the barony of Portnahinch, pariah of Lea, unlaw- fully and forcibly broken into the dwelling- house of Patrick Carroll, and did take, steal, and carry away a coat and trowsers ( since recovered), value for about ten shillings:— Left eye small or closed, red face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a hard dark hat, dark coat, light tweed trowsers; looks like a boatman. Maryboro', 28th July, 1890. 3725 c.— 79366. Roscommon. A Description of a MAN, name and Hplace unknown, who. stands charged with beq^^ K^ the 18th day of July, 1890, in the barony ^^ stlerea, parish of Baslick, stolen the sum of £ 6 13fc3<& from the dwelling- house of Patrick Walder, of Lisolway. He obtained admission to the house by stating h< j was a plan of campaign agent and that the police were in pursuit of him; it has since been learned that this man imposed on another farmer in the same manner a few weeks ago:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nosa, fresh complexion, round face, stout mate, 6 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a brown felt hat, blick cloth coat, trowaers and vest of same material; had a watch and chain, rather respectable looking. Informa- tion has been sworn. Castlerea, 20th July, 1890. ( 3545 c.--- 79069.) Sligo. Description of JOHN M'DERMOTT, native of Drumfad, who stands charged with having, on the 26th May, 1890, in tha barony of Carbury, parish of rosinver, stolen three head ui' cattle, the property of Mrs. Anne Dwyer, which have since been recovered:— Sallow complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years ot age, slightly bald ; wore a soft hat, black necktie, and gray frieze coat; is a small farmer. Warrant in the hands of the police. Sligo, 4th June, 1890. ( 2526 c.— 77304). Tipperary. Description of MARTIN MAHER native of Capparoe, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 21et, July, 1890 in the birony of Owney and Arra, parish of Burgesbeg, stolen 4 head ol l£- y ear- old cattle, which have been since recovered:— Small tender eyes, small cocked nose, sallow complexion, small face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, no beard ; wore a tweed cap, dark brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, laced boots; is a labourer. Likely to emigrate. Warrant in the hands of the Police. Nenagh, 25th July, 1890. ( 3657 c— 79259.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, c 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, countr Tipperary, on 19th July, 1888, for the larceny of a pai: of blankets, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 26 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Clonmel, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside :— Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, medium roecth sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate rpa » e, 5 feet 5^ inches high, cut mark left side of head and between left thumb and forefinger, burn mark on Mt knee and shin. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 20th December, 1889, and went to ret, ide at Clon- mel. He failed to report himself to the R. I. C. there on the 2nd inst., he is suspected of having committed larceny, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of bis : rrest he should be dealt with under section 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 311 H. C.) Tyrone. PATRICK SHARKEY ( rape), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 517 c.— 73739.) r~ Waterford. Description of a tramping WOMAN, native place unknown, who stands charged < with having, on the night of the 8th or modfag; of the 9th Auguit, 1890, at Glenpatrick, in the barony of Upperthird, parish of Rathgormac, burglariously stolen from the dwelling- house of Johanna Brazil the follow- ing articles of clothing, the property of Johanna Brazil and Ellen Whelan, viz.:— 1 brown shawl with gray stripes, 1 black knitted shawl, 1 red plaid shawl, 1 red Cashmere dress, and 1 blue flannel petticoat; all value for about £ 2 :— Large tat face appeared to be swollen, meoium make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 50 years of age, gray hair; wore a white cap, gray shawl, and laced boots; is a tramp. Information sworn and Warrant issued. Portlaw, 12th August, 1890. ( 4043 c.— 799IA.) i^ jg) Description of MICHAEL POWER, of residence, who stands charged with having morning of the 16th May, 1890, in the" Upperthird, parish of Dysert, feloniously broken the dwelling- house of Ellen Mara, at Kildraughtane THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 1 5 , 1890. ? nd indecently assaulted her therein :— Gray eyes, -^ ilar nose, fresh complexion, oval face, medium flu'eet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age. fair ht^^^ Bng gray, and sandy whiskers and moustache turnuHgray, chin shaved; wore a hard felt hat much worn, orfl gray tweed coat much too large, old tweed trowsers lighter color than coat, no vest; is a labourer. Information sworn and Warrant issued and in the hands of the Police at Carrickbeg. Portlaw, 18th May, 1890. ( 2243c._ 76764.) Westmeath. Description of TWO MEN, names unknown, who stand charged with hating, in company with Thomas Bracken ( arrested), on the 25th June, 1890, in the barony of Corkaree, parish of Rathconnell, assaulted one Patrick Commer, and robbed him of the sum of £ 1 15 « ., consisting of one pound note with " Parsons" written on back of it, also a bit out of one corner, a half sovereign, and five shillings in silver:— 1. Sallow complexion, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, no beard or whiskers; wore a black soft hat, tweed coat and trowsers; is a cattle drover. 2. Native of Longford, thiu nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or '> inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair, wore all his beard, which is black, with moustache much heavier than beard, dirty- looking face; wore a black torn coat and brown tweed trowsers. Mullingar, 26th June, 1890. ( 3055 c 78223.) Wexford. Russ and Company, Farriers, 50, 52, and 54, Buchar an- street, here, was entered by going along the roof, breaking a pane of glass in the workshop window opposite the snib, and the following articles stolen, viz.:— A sealskin jacket, tight fitting, 45 inches deep, trimmed witt) skunk fur of a dark brown odour on neck, front, sleeves, and skirt, fastens with hooks and eyes, down front, stamped in five places R/ 3 in ink, and the name Blair in at least two places, licitg wanting, almost new, value £ 20; a sealskin jacket, tight fitting, 38 inches deep, the name Salmond in one place, lining wanting, value £ 20; a short tight fitting seal- skin jacket, 22 inches deep, lined with brown quilted satin, one pocket in lining, has a small square tab at back of neck with " F. H. Russ, Manufacturing Furrier, 50, 52, and 54, Buchanan- street, Glasgow," on it, value £ 15 ; seven pieces of sealskin, cut ready for making a jacket, 42 inches deep, B/ 5 stamped on each piece, and " Allison " on son. e of tbe pieces, valne £ 15 ; and two jacket fronts, a top and under sleeve, and two side gores of a sealskin jacket, B/ 4 on each piece and the name " Hewitt" on some of ttiem. The above Reward is offered to any percon who will give such information as will lead to the appre- hension and conviction of the thieves, and the recovery of the property, or in proportion to the amount of pro- perty recovered.
