No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary fforward the Informations to the Inspector- General. ' •-^ M& t****^- Notices respecting all Felonies and suoh Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted; ' . All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, j and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. I %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY. Antrim; Description of the undernamed young offenders, who, on tho 29th July, 1890, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast :— WILLIAM J. M'ILROY, 16 years of age, brown hair, gray weak oyes, gray eyebrows, straight note, ordinary month, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high; is a farm boy, born at Belfast; his parents reside at 195, Urney- street; Samuel Cross, 135, Argyle- street, ii his uncle. Cut- mark on right eyebrow, out- mark on left side of fore- head, dots on both hands, also dot on back of left forearm. Dressed in a moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, and red black " and ; check tie. JOHN BALIE, 17 years of age, black hair, dark brown eyes, brown eyebrows, regular noie, regnlar mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 6 feet high; is a farm boy, born at Bangor; his parents reside at 1, Church- street, Bangor. Scar on top of head, chicken- chested, scar above right eyebrow. Dressed in a moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, and red and black check tie. Both likely to hire with farmers. M'llroy has friends in Cookstown. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of their conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Juitice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture them with £ 1 for each boy. 882 H. C. % Description of JAMES STERLING ( mother's surname Campell), native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 10th of July 1890, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, forged a cheque for £ 6 8a., and receiving amount of same;—- Wore all his beard, which is dark, tinged with gray, dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regnlar face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair tinged with gray ; wore a low hard hat, dark coat, gray trowsers, ana dark vest; is a dealer in empty casks and barrels. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Belfast North. Belfast North, 22nd July, 1890. ( c, 79110.) JOHN BAILIE or BELL and WILLIAM J. M'ILROY ( young offenders), described in Hue- and- Cry of 3rd June last, not arrested. ( 317 H. C.) Armagh Description of PATRICK COONEY, native of Ballintemple, who left his home in the barony of Upper Fews, parish of Newtownhamilton, on 3rd July, 1890. He is of weak mind, and may have met with foul play:— Innocent looking, red wart on fore- head, blue eyes, thick nose, fair complexion, round fat freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; wore a cap, gray tweed coat and vest. Armagh, 30th July, 1890. 3759 c.— 79427. Description of PATRICK CUMISKY, native of Crossmaglen, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of July, 1890, in the barony of Upper Fews, parish of Creggan, attempted to rape a servant girl named Elizabeth Linden, at Carnally:— Scar on one of his temples, high cheek bones, shaves all his face except moustache which is dark, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a tramp, fiddler, and scutcher. Information sworn, and War- rant in the hands of District Inspector at Newry. Newry, 12th July, 1890. ( 3360 c.— 73780.) Cork Description of TIMOTHY M'CARTHY, native of Coolboy, who stands charged with having, on the morning of 2nd August, 1890, in the barony of West Division West Carbery, parish of Caheragh, and townlaud of Ballyourane, stolen three bullocks ( sines recovered), the property of Thomas Crowley, of Bally- ourane:— Down looking, slightly bow- legged; gray or blue eyes, broad nose, fair complexion, broad face, low- set stout make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a very old blaok Jerry hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, old patched boots; is a labourer. Warrant in the hands of the police. Bantry, 6th August, 1890. ( 3897 c 79669.) Description of a MAN, name and native place nnknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th July, 1890, in the barony of Imokilly, parish of Midleton, fraudulently received the sum of £ 6 11*. from Michael O'Dwyer, of Glenbarahane, county Limer- ick, by representing himself to be the agent of the owner of some pigs which O'Dwyer had bought from Philip Hegarty, Ballinvoher, Cloyne:— Sallow complexion, thin short face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair, black moustache cut straight across with long ends, black whiskers ; wore a slightly faded hard low hat, mouse- coloured coat, trowsers. and vest. Warrant for arrest in hands of District Inspector, Midleton. Midleton, 18th July, 1890. ( 3512 c.— 79017). Description of DANIEL CARTY ( mother's sur- name Leary), native of Clounties, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the night of 26th June, 1890, in the barony of W. D. E. Carbery, parish of Fanlobbus, unlawfully assaulted, beaten, and inflicted grievous bodily harm on Michael Walsh, of Clounties, in county of Cork:— Small dark moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, dark swarthy complexion, roand face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft flat cap, black coat, and frieze trowsers; is a labourer. Warrant in hands of the District- Inspector, R. I. C., Dunmanway. Dunmanway, 1st July, 1890. ( 3171 c.— 78415.) Description of JOHN SHEEHAN ( mother's sur- name Sheehan), and JOHN BUCKLEY ( mother's surname M'Namara), natives of Killeen, who stand charged with having, on the 22nd day of May, 1890, in the barony of East Muskerry, parish of Matehy, been concerned, with others now in custody, in stealing seven sheep and five lambs, the property of Hanorah Murphy, of Killeen :— 1. Gray eyes, short nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cap, brown tweed coat, brown trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 2. Dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, smart make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore a black cap, black coat, trowsers, and vest; was in America, and speaks with American accent; is a labourer. Description of JOHN LANE, native of Carrig, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1890, in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Ardnageehy, committed a rape on one Hannah O'Brien, a girl of 15 years of age:— Down- looking, shaves all his face, gray eyes, long thin nose, fair com- plexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair, has a fresh cut on the back of the head caused by a blow of a stone; wore a hard black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son, and jobs in sheep and cattle. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- ASTD- CBY, AUGUST 8, 1890. l nattlSf Donegal. Description of JOHN M'CANN, native of Cork who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of June, 1890, in the barony of Banagh, parish of Inver, fired at and wounded one Bridget Gallagher, at Meen tucahan, in said county :— One front tooth out in upper left jaw, brown ejes, cocked nose, swarthy com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high about 38 ye rs of age, dark brown hair turning gray ; wore a £ f » y tweed two pe< ik cap, old light- coloured tweed coat, tWeed trowsers, and old worn shoes, no stockings; is a tramp, no occupation. This man is in custody, and may have committed other offences. Ballyshannon, 11th June, 1890. ( 2656 c.— 77550.) D. TUMNEY ( assault), described in Hue- and- Cry of 6ih May ; not arrested. ( 99681 73238). Dublin. Particular relative to Convict JAMES BYRNE, c. 9, convicted at Dublin City Sessions, op 1st October, 1 Hi- 5, for latceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 27 years of age on cot viction, single; is a shoemaker; born at Kingstown, resided in Dublin before conviction:— Black hair, blue eyes, dark eyebrows, long tbin nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 feet 1 f inches high, brown flesh mark on left elbow, cut star over right eyebrow. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on 25th September, 1889, and went to reside in Dublin. He left the North Dublin Union without reporting himself to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. He was seen selling racing cards at the Curragh on 24th ult. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 331 H. C.) Galway. Description of JOHN HEAPHY, native of Fermoy, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 26th June, 1890, in the barony of Kiltartan, parish of Kilmacduagh, absconded, em- bezzling the sum of 14$. Id. from his emplover, Mr. Michael M'Carthy, ot Gort:— Right eye bloodshot, full brown beard, small eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of age, brown 1 air; wore a round brown hat, much worn, faded brown coat, bine trowsers; is a profes- sional tramp. Warrant in the hands of the District Inspector at Gort for his arrest. Gort, 28th June, 1890. ( 3076 78254.) Kerry. Description of ELLEN HURLEY, native of Clahane, who stands charged with having, on tbe 7th July, 1890, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Tralee, stolen a female donkey ( described under head- ing " Animals Stolen,') the property of Thomas Spring, Esq., Coroner of Tralee:— Middle aged and speaks with a strong Kerry accent, gray eyes, cooked nose, pale c< mplexion, foil face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; sells sugarstick iqd sweets at fairs and markets. Warrant for her arrest I'B in tho hands of the police at Tralee. Tralee, 10th July, 1890. ( 3337 c.— 78744). RODGER SPILLANE ( serious assault), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 1808 75957.) MATHEW LEARY ( juvenile absconder), des- cribed in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 1292 c.— 74969.) Kildare. Description of CHARLES DOHERTY, native of Kingsbog, who stands charged with naving, on the night of 26th June, 1890, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Kildare. attacked the dwelling- house of John Hanbridge, of Brallistown, with intent to do the owner bodily harm:— Gray eyes, regular nose, sallow com- plexion, sunken face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft black hat, dark coat, dark tweed frowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. Kildare, 28th June, 1890. ( 3077 c.— 78255.) Description of Sapper JOHN EGLESTON, 22,802, 17th Battalion, Field Company, Royal Engineers, who absented himself without leave from the Curragh Camp, on 7th June, 1890:— Vaccination mark on left arm, scar on right side of head, blue eyes, light brown hair, fresh complexion, 5 feet 61 inches high, 22 years of age; dressed in regimentals; is a carpenter; born in the parish of St. Peter's, Dublin, and enlisted at Birr. Under 3 years' service. Curragh Camp, 12th June, 1890. ( 124 H. C.) Kilkenny. PATRICK MULROONEY ( stealing), Hue- and- Cry, 4th July, 1890, not arrested. ( 2503 77257.) JAMES MAHER ( cattle stealing), Hue- and- Cry, 4th July, not arrested. ( 1997 c 76334.) PATRICK BURKE ( arson), described in Hue- and Cry of 13th May, not arrested, ( 579 73574.) King's. Description of JOHN LACY, who has stated that he is a native of Little Patrick- street, Waterford city, and again of Lacystown, county Kilkenny, who is in custody here, charged with having, on the 5th An gust, 1890, in the barony of Kilcoursey, parish of Kilbride, stolen the sum of 15s. 6d. from the dwelling- bonse of Elizabeth Dunican, of Clara:— Blue eyes, regular nose, sandy freckled com pier ion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, about 21 years of age, red hair; wore a black peak cap, navy bine jacket, and grav tweed trowsers; ssys that he belorged to the Kilkenny Militia, and trained in Clonmel in 1889; joinel the 18th Royal Irish Regi- ment at Tralee on 4th July. 18S9, and discharged therefrom on oth May, 1890, the cause of discharge he does not assign ; states also that he was in Philipstawn Reformatory ; it is also believed that he has been con- victed ot larceny in the Queen's County. He may be charged with similar offences elsewhere. Tullamore, 6th August, 1 « 90. ( 3896 c.— 7S668.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on Sunday, the 6th July, 1890, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County:— THOMAS SHERLOCK, No. ljQ73, 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, slight make, pale complexion, dark brown hair, weak brown eyes, long nose, small mouth, oval visage, two middle toes of right foot stuck together; dressed in a soft felt hat, blue serge jacket, corduroy trowsers and vest, Blucher boots. Formerly belonged to 56, Beresford- street, Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arreBted, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 330 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 30th June, 1890, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, at King's County :— MARTIN CROWLEY, No. 1,310, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, strong make but not stout, frosh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes; formerly belonged to Kilrush, county Clare, where his father resides; little finger off left hand. The school dress consists of moleskin trowsers, black moleskin vest, cordnroy jacket, leather leggings ( at time of leaving), Glengarry cap, Blucher boots. The boy is believed to bo now trapping in country parts barefooted. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if airested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 328 H. C. BRIDGET SHEEHY ( arson), described in Hue- and- Cry of 6th May; not arrested. ( 594 c— 73615.) Londonderry. Particulars relative to Convict GEORGE WALKER, c 62, convicted at Londonderry Quarter Sessions, on the 4th June, 1886, for burglary, and sentenced to 5 years' oenal servitude :— 52 jeais of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction; his friends reside at Rosemount, Londonderry:— Brown hair, blue eyes, sandy eyebrows, large nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, bald on top of head, cut mark on right temple. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on 31st May, 1890, and went to Londonderry. He failed to make his usual monthly report on 30th ult., to the R. I. C. at Rosemount, Londonderry, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under see. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 329 H. C.) Louth. Description of TWO MEN, names and places unknown, who stand charged with having,^ p the night of 21st or morning of 22nd instant, in the barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Haggardstown stolen the following articles from the Roman CaC Chapel of Haggardstown:— A silver chalice, ciborium, silver spoon, and collecting plate :— 1. Stooped shoulders, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, dark hair turning gray wore a black frock coat, light trowsers, and vest. 2. Full face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches h about 30 years of age, fair hair, sandy mousta wore a short black coat, white moleskin trowsers, vest. Dundalk, 26th May, 1890. PATRICK CASSIDY ( intimidation), described in issue of 24th June, not arrested. Ballaghaderreen, April 13,1890. ( 99755 c.— 75711.) ANDREW DOOHAN ( assault), described in issue of 24th Jane, not arrested. Ballaghaderreen, 8th March, 1890. ( 825 C— 4080.) SAMUEL CANNING ( stealing), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. JANE M'MULLAN, described in issue of 28th March, 1890, not arrested. ( 550 0.— 73518.) Monaghan, Description of MARGARET FITZPATRICK, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 4th day of August, 1890, in the barony of Monaghan, parish of Monaghan, in her possession two £ 5 notes on the Ulster Bank, Limited, Nog. 25138 and 46197, respectively, which it is believed she has stolen :— Bald on top of head, gray eyes, large nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stoat make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 55 or 60 years of age, gray hair; wore a plaid shawl, which appears to have been recently purchased; is a tramping vagrant. This woman was arrested in Monaghan for drunkenness on evening of 4th inst., and has been remanded to Armagh Gaol for eight days, to enable the police to make inquiry as to hew she became possessed of the money. She frequents the several towns in Armagh, Cavan, Monaghan, and Tyrone. She only came to Monaghan the day of her arrest from the direction of Armagh. Monaghan, 6th August, 1890. ( 3896 c.— 79667). Description of EDWARD M'CAFFREY ( mother's surname Boyle), native of Tatty- gormican, county Fermanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 13th Jaly, 1890, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of Clones, assaulted Miss Madden, of Agbafin House:— Dark eyes, large nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black hat, black frock coat, gray tweed trowsers, and black vest; is a' labourer. Warrant in the hands of the Police. Clones, 25th July, 18S0. ( 3605 c.— 79258). Queen's. Description of MICHAEL MURPHY, native of Mountmellick ( name and native place supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1890, at Jamestown, in the barony of Portnabinch, parish of Lea, ULlaw- fully and forcibly broken into the dwelling- house of Patrick Carroll, and did take, steal, and carry away a coat and trowsers ( since recovered), value for about ten shillings:— Left eye small or closed, red face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore a hard dark hat, dark coat, light tweed trowsers; looks l: ke a boatman. Maryboro', 23th July, 1890. 3725 0.— 79366. Roscommon. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of July, 1890, in the barony cf Castlerea, parish of Baslick, stolen the sum of £ 6 13s. 3d. from the dwelling- bouse of Patrick Walder, of Lisolway. He obtained admission to the house by stating he was a plan of campaign agent, and that the police were in pursuit of him; it has since been learned that this man imposed on another farmer in the same manner a few weeks ago:— Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a brown felt hat, bltck cloth coat, trowsers, and vest of same material; had a watch and chain, rather respectable lcoking. Description of JOHN M'DERMOTT, native of Drumfad, who stands charged with having, on the 26th May, 1890, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Rosinver, stolen three head of cattle, the property of Mrs. Anne Dwyar, which have since been recovered:— Sallow complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, slightly bald; wore a soft hat, black necktie, and gray frieze coat; is a farmer. Warrant in the bands of the police. Sligo, 4th . tune, 1890. ( 2526 c.— 77304). MICHAEL WALSH ( assault, described in issue of 5th inst., not arrested. ( 2248 < J.— 76769). Tipperary. Description of MARTIN MAHER, native of Capparoe, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 21st July, 1890, in the barony of Ownev and Arra, parish of Burgesbeg, stolen 4 head of 1 ^ year- old cattle, which have been since recovered:— Small tender eyes, small cocked nose, sallow complexion, small face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 25 years of age, no beard; wore a tweed cap, dark brown tweed coat, trowsere, and vest, laced boots; is a labourer. Likely to emigrate. Warrant in the bands of the Police. Nenagh, 25th July; 1890. ( 3657 C.- 79259.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, o 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, county Tipperary, on 19th July, 1888, for the larceny of a pair of blankets, and « entenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 36 years of age on conviction, eingle; is a labourer; born at Clonmel, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside:— Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 5^ inches high, cut mark left side of head and between left thumb and forefinger, burn mark on left knee and shin. Native of Longford, thin nose, dark complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair, wore all his beard, which is black, with moustache much heavier than beard, dirty- looking face ; wore a black torn coat and brown tweed trowseri.
