All Notioee intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to tho Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn ; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be neoessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities aro particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Caatl « , of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, & c., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. mmmm DUBLIN, TUESDAY, AUGUST 5, 1890. sss NOTICE. Antrim, v Description of the undernamed young offenders, who, en the 29th July, 1890, absconded from the Malone Reformatory School at Belfast. WILLIAM J. M'ILROY, 16 years of age, brown hair, gray weak oyes, gray eyebrows, straight note, ordinary mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high; is a farm boy, born at Belfast t his parents reside at 195, Urcey- street; Samuel Cross, 135, Argyle- street, is his uncle. Cut- mark on right eyebrow, cnt- mark on left side of fore- head, dots cn both hands, also dot on back of left forearm. Dressed in a moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, and red and black check tie. JOHN BALIE, 17 years of age, black hair, dark brown eyos, brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet high; is a farm boy, born at Bangor; his parents reside at 1, Church- street, Bangor. Scar on top of head, chicken- chested, soar above right eyebiow. Dressed in a moleskin jacket, trowsers, and vest, Glengarry cap, blue and white striped shirt, and red and black check tie. Both likely to hire with farmers. M'Ilroy has friends in Cooksiown. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of their conveyance, if arrested, to the noarest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture them with £ 1 for each boy. 332 H. Description of JAMES STERLING ( mother's surname Campell), native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, on the 10th of July 1890, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, forged a cheque for £ 6 8s„ and receiving amount of same :— Wore all his beard, which is dark, tinged with gray, dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair tinged with gray ; wore a low hard hat, dark coat, gray trowsers, and dark vest; is a dealer in empty casks and barrels. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Belfast North. Belfast North, 22nd July, 1890 (— 0, 79110.) JOHN BAILIE or BELL and WILLIAM J. M'ILROY ( young offenders), described in Hue- and- Cry of 3rd June last, not arrested. ( 317 H. C.) Armagh Description of PATRICK COONEY, native of Ballintemple, who left his home in the barony of Upper Fews, parish of Newtownhamilton, on 3rd July, 1890. He is of weak mind, and may have met with foul play:— Innocent looking, red wart on fore- head, blue eyes, thick nose, fair complexion, round fat freckled face, stout make, 5 feet 7 itches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair j wore a cap, gray tweed coat and vest. Armagh, 30th July, 1890. 3759 c.— 79427. Description of PATRICK CUMISKY, native of Crossmaglen, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of July, 1890, in the barony of Upper Fews, parish of Creggan, attempted to rape a servant girl named Elizabeth Linden, at Carnally:— Scar OH one of his temples, high cheek bones, shaves all his face except moustache which is dark, gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin facc, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark hair; wore a cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a tramp, fiddler, and scutcher. Information sworn, and War- rant in tho hands of District Inspector at Newry. Newry, 12th July, 1890. ( 3360 c.— 73780.) Cork Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 14th Jfily, 1890, in tie barony of Imokilly, parish of Midleton, fraudulently received the sum of £ 6 1 l. v. from Michael O'Dwyer, of Glenbarahane, county Limer- ick, by representing himself to be the agent of the owner of some pigs which O'Dwyer had bought from Philip Hegarty, Ballinvoher, Cloyne:— Sallow complexion, thin short face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair, black moustache cut straight across with long ends, black whiskers ; wore a slightly laded hard low hat, mouse- coloured coat, trowsors and vest. Warrant for arrest in hands of District Inspector, Midleton. Midleton, 18th July, 1890. ( 3512 c.—. 7901"). Description of DANIEL CARTY ( mother's sur- name Leary), native of Clounties, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the night of 26th Jane, 1890, in the barony of W. D. E. Carbery, parish of Fanlobbus, unlawfully assaulted, beaten, and inflicted grievous bodily harm on Michael Walsh, of Clounties, in county of Cork:— Small dark moustache, 3ark eyes, regular nose, dark swarthy complexion, roond face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 23 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft flat cap, black coat, and frieie trowsers; is a labourer. Warrant in hands of th e District- Inspector, R. I. C., Dunmanway. Dunmanway, 1st July, 1890." ( 3171 c.— 78415.) Description of JOHN SHEEHAN ( mother's sur- name Sheehan), and JOHN BUCKLEY ( mother's surname M'Namara), natives of Killeen, who stand charged with having, on the 22nd day of May, 1890, in the barony of East Muskerry, parish of Matohy, been concerned, with others now in custody, in stealing seven sheep and five lambs, the property of Hanorah Murphy, of Killeen:— 1. Gray eyes, short nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cap, brown twead coat, brown trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. 2. Dark eyes, regalar nose, dark complexion, thin face, smart make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore r. black cap, black coat, trowsers, and vest; was in America, and speaks with American accent; is a labourer. Description of JOHN LANE, native of Carrig, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd may, 1890, in the barony of Barrymore, parish of Ardnageehy, committed a rape on one Hannah . O'Brien, a girl of 1$ years of age:— Down- looking, shaves ail his face, gray eyes, long thin nose, fair com- plexion, thin face, stoat make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair, has a fresh cut on the back of the head caused by a blow of a stone; wore a hard black hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son, and jobs in sheep and cattle. Will endeavour to emigrate. Warrant issued. Fermoy, 1890. ( 2471 C.— 77209.) JAMES M'CARTHY ( stealing sheep), described in issue oiF 24th June, not arrested. , ( 2016 c.— 76368.) r I II Donegal, Description of JOHN M'CANN, native of Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 7th day of June, 1890, in the barony of Banagh, parish of Inver, fired at and wounded one Bridget Gallagher, at Meen- tucahan, in said county:— One front tooth ont in upper left jaw, brown eyes, cooked nose, swarthy com- plexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 38 years of ago, dark brown hair turning gray; wore a gray tweed two- peak cap, old light- coloured tweed coat, tweed trowsers, and old worn shoes, no stockings; is a tramp, no occupation. Thia man is in custody, and may have committed other offences. Ballyshannon, 11th June, 1890. ( 2656 c.— 77550.) THE POLICE GAZETTE, OE HUE- AND- CBY, AUGUST 5, 1890. D. TUMNEY ( assault), described in Hue- and- Cry of 6th May ; not arrested. ( 99681 73233). Dublin. Particulars relative to Convict JAMES BYRNE, r. 9, convicted at Dublin City Sessions, on 1st October, 1885, for larceny from person, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 27 years of age on cor - viction, single; is a shoemaker; born at Kingstown, resided in Dublin before conviction :— Black hair, blue « yes, dark eyebrows, long thin nose, small moutb, frcpn complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 feet If inches high, brown flesh mark on left elbow, cut scar over right eyebrow. This man was releated from Mountjoy Prison on 25th September, 1889, and went to reside in Dublin. He left the North Dublin Union without reporting himself to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. He was seen selling racing cards at the Curragh on 24th ult. In the event of his arre t he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 snd 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 331 H. C.) Galway. Description of JOHN HEAPHY, native of Fermoy, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 26th June, 1890, in the barony of Kiltartan, parish of Kilmacduagh, absconded, em- bezzling the sum of 14.$ Id. from his emplover, Mr. Michael M'Carthy, oi Gort:— Right eye bloodshot, full brown beard, small eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 40 years of a « e, brown hair; wore a round brown hat, much worr, faded brown coat, blue troweers; is a profes- sional tramp. Warrant in tho hands of the District Inspector at Gort for his arrest. Gort, 28th June, 1890. ( 3076 78254.) Kerry. Description of ELLEN HURLEY, native of Clahane, who stands charged with having, on the 7th July, 1890, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Tralee, stolen a female donkey ( described under head- ing " Animals Stolen,") the property of Thomas Spring, Esq., Coroner of Tralee :— Middle aged and speaks with a strong Kerry accent, gray eyes, cocked nose, pale complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; sells sugarstick end sweets at fairs and markets. Warrant tor her arrest is in the hands of the police at Tralee. Tralee, 10th July, 1890. ( 3337 c.— 78744). RODGER SPILLANE ( serious assault), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not airested. ( 1808 c.— 75957.) MATHEW LEARY ( juvenile absconder), des- cribed in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 1292 c.— 74969.) Kildare. Description of CHARLES DOHERTY, native of Kingsbog;, who stands charged with naving, on the night ot 26th June, 1890, in the barony of East Offaly, parish of Kildare, attacked the dwelling- house of John Hanbridge, of Brallistown, with intent to do the owner bodily harm:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fallow com- plexion, sunken face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft b'ack hat, dark coat, dark tweed trowsers, and dark vast; is a labourer. Kildare, 28th June, 1890. ( 3077 C 78255.) Description of Sapper JOHN EGLESTON, 22,802, 17th Battalion, Field Company, Royal Engineers, who absented himself without leave from the Curragh Camp, on 7th June, 1890:— Vaccination mark on left arm, scar on right side ol head, blue eyes, light brown hair, fresh complexion, 5 feet 6J inches high, 22 years of age j dressed in regimentals; is a carpenter; born in the parish of St. Peter's, Dublin, and enlisted at Birr. JAMES MAHER ( cattle stealing), Hue- and- Cry, 4th J uly, not arrested. ( 1997 76334.) PATRICK BURKE ( arson), described in Hue- and Cry of 13 th May, not arrested * ( 579 c,— 73574.) King's. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on Sunday, the 6th July, 1890, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County:— THOMAS SHERLOCK, No. 1,073, 19 or 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inchei high, slight make, pale complexion, dark brown hair, weak brown eye?, long nose, small mouth, oval visage, two middle toes of right foot stuck together; dressed in a soft felt hat, blue serge jacket, corduroy trowsers and vest, Blucher boots. Formerly belonged to 56, Beresford- street, Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 330 H. C.) Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 30th June, 1890, absconded Irom the Philipstown Reformatory Schoo1, at King's County:— MARTIN CROWLEY, No. 1,310,17 yearsofage, 5 feet 2 inches high, strong make but not stout, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes; formerly belonged to Kilrush, county Clare, where his father resides; little finger off left hand. The school dress consists of moleskin trowsers, black moleskin vest, corduroy jacket, leather leggings ( at time of leaving) Glengarry cap, Blucher boots. The boy is believed to be now tramping in country parts barefooted. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £\. ( 328 H. C. BRIDGET SHEEHY ( arson), described in Hue- end- Cry of 6th May; not arrested. ( 594 73615.) Londonderry. Particulars relative to Convict GEORGE WALKER, c 62, convicted at Londonderry Quarter Sessions, on the 4th June, 1886, for burglary, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 52 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Londonderry, where he resided before conviction ; his friends reside at Rosemount, Londonderry:— Brown hair, blue eyes, sandy eyebrows, large nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, bald on top of head, cut mark on right temple. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on 3lst May, 1890, and went to Londonderry. He failed to make his usual monthly report on 30th ult., to the R. I. C. at Rosemount, Londonderry, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sea. 5 of 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 329 H. C.) SAMUEL CANNING ( stealing), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. JANE M'MULLAN, described in issue of 28th March, 1890, not arrested. ( 550 a— 73518.) Louth. Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 21st or morning of 22nd instant, in the barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Haggardstown, stolen the following articles from the Roman Catholic Chapel of Haggardstown:— A silver chalice, ciborium, silver spoon, and collecting plate :— 1. Stooped shoulders, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age, dark hair turning gray; wore a black frock coat, light trowsers, and vest. 2. Full face, medium make, ! i feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, fair hair, sandy moustache; wore a short black coat, white moleskin trowsers, light Dundalk, 26th May, 1890. ( 2382— c. 77018.) Monaghan, Description of EDWARD M'CAFFREY ( mother's surname Boyle), native of Tatty- gormican, county Fermanagh, who stands charged with having, on the 13th July, 1890, in the barony of Dartrey, parish of Clones, assaulted Miss Madden, of Aghafin House:— Dark eyes, large nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 11, inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a black hat, black frock coat, pray tweel trowsars, and black vest; is a labourer. Description of MICHAEL MURPHY, native of Mountmellick ( name and native place supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1890), at Jamestown, in the barony of Portnahinch, parish of Lea, unl- tw- fully and forcibly broken into the dwelling- house of Patrick Carrol), ard did take, steal, and carry away a coat and trowsers ( since recovered), value for about ten shillings:— Left eye small or closed, red face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 50 years of age; woro a hard dark hat, dark coat, light tweed trowsers ; looks like a boatman. Maryboro', 2^ th July, 1890. 3725 c.— 79366. Roscommon. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of July, 1890, in the barony of Castlerea, parish of Baslick, stolen the sum of £ 6 13s. 3d. from the dwelling- house cf Patrick Walder, of Lisolway. He obtained admission to the house by stating hi was a plan of campaign agent and that the poli' e were in pursuit of him; it has since been learned that_ this man imposed on another farmer in tho same manner a few weeks ago Smart active appearance, brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 26 jea's < f age, dark bro^ n hair; wore a brown felt hat, bhek cloth coat, trowsers and vest. of same material; had a watch and chain, rather respectable looking. Description of JOHN M'DERMOTT, native of Drumfad, who stands charged with having, on the 26th May, 1890, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Rosinver, stolen three head ot cattle; the property of Mrs. Anne Dwyer, which have since been recovered i— Sallow complexion, thin' face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age, slightly < balid ; wore a soft hat, black necktie, and gray frieze coat; ia a small farmer. Description of MICHAEL WALSH ( mother's surname Casey), native of Cashelduff, county Mayo, who stands charged with having, on the 15th May, 1890, in the barony of Leyney, parish of Achonry, and townlaild of Curry, unlawfully assaulted . Tames Feely, thereby placing his life in danger:— Smart active appearar ce, gray eyes regular nose, pale com- plexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 18 years of ape, dark hair; wore a white tweed cap with peak, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourtr. Tubbercurry, 21st May, 1890; ( 2248c 76769.) Tipperary. Description of MARTIN MAHER, native of Capparoe, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 2! st July, 1890, in the b » rony of Ownev and Arra, parish of Burgesbeg, stolen 4 head of lj- year- old cattle, which have been since recovered:— Small tender eyes, small cocked nose, sallow complexion, small face, active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, a^ out 25 years of age, no beard ; wore a tweed cap, dark brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, laced boots; is a labourer. Likely to emigrate. Warrant in the hands ol the Police. Nenagh, 25th July, 1890. ( 3657 c— 79259.) Particulars relative to Convict PATRICK O'BRIEN, c 263, convicted at Clonmel Assizes, county Tipperary, on lftth July, 1888, for the larceny of a pair of blankets, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude 26 years of age on conviction, single; is a labourer; born at Clonmel, where he resided before convicticn, and where his friends reside:— Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, dark brown eyebrows, medium nose, medium mouth, sallow complexion, cval visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 5^ inches high, cut mark left side ol head and between left thumb and forefinger, burn mark on left knee and shin. 4 p THE POLICE GAZETTE, OE HUE- AND- CRY,, AUGUST 5, 1890. This roan was released from Mountjoy Prison on 20th December, 1889, and went to reside at Clon- roel. He failed to report himself to the R. I. C. there on the 2nd inst,, he is suspected of haying committed larceny, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his or rest he should be dealt with under section 5 of 24 and 35 Vic., cap. 11?. ( 3 51 H c.) Description of EDMOND FARRELL, native of Killenaule, county Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd March, 1890, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Kelick Murry, had in his possession, knowing tham to have been stolen, two asses, value £ 2 10 « . ( since recovered), and the property of John Hogan :— Gray or bine eyes, regular nose, very fresh complexion, thin hardy face, medium make, about 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair, face all shaven except small sandy moustache; wore a tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, tweed vest. This man generally wears a silver coloured watch chain, but has no watch attached. He belongs to the Army Reserve, and has a soldier- like appearance. Warrant in hands of the police. Dundrum, 11th April, 1890. (- D. 75599.) Tyrone. PATRICK SHARKEY ( rape), described in Hue- and- Cry of 13th May, not arrested. ( 517 c.— 73739.) Waterford. Description of MICHAEL POWER, of no fixed residence, who stands charged with having, on the morning of the 16th May, If90, in the barony of Upperthird, parish of Dysert, feloniously broken into the dwelling- house of Ellen Mara, at Kildraughtane, and iiidecently assaulted her therein :— Gray eye?, regular nose, fresh complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 years of age. fair hair turning gray, and sandy whiskers and moustache turning gray, chin shaved; wore a hard felt hat much worn, old gray tweed coat much too Urge, o'd tweed trowaers lighter color than coat, no vest; is a labourer. Information sworn and Warrant issued and in the hands of the Police at Carrickbeg. Portlaw, 18th May, 1890. ( 2243e._ 76764.) Westmeath. Description of TWO MEN, names unknown, who stand charged with having, in company with Thomas Bracken ( arrested), on the 25th June, 1890, in the barony of Corkaree, parish of Rathconnell, assaulted one Patrick Commer, and robbed him of the sum of' • w •> « £ 1 15*., cineii ting of one pound note with " Parsons" written on back of it, also a bit out of one corner, a half sovereign, and five shillings in silver:— 1. Sallow complexion, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 30 years of age, no beard or whiskers; wore a black soft hat, tweed coat and trowsers; is a cattle drover. 2. Native of Longford, thin nose, dark " oryiploxion, thin face, roelium make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 40 years of age, black hair, ' Wire alt his beard, which is black, with moustache much lipavier than beard, dirty- looking face; wore a black torn coat and brown tweed trowsor*. Absconded on the Pth June, 1890, charged with embezzling the sum of £ 500, the property of the Cumberland Union Bank ( Penrith Branch):— STANLEY MARTIN, bank cashier, Penrith, about 40 years of age, 5 fett 5 or 6 inches high, black hair, moustache and beard, sallow complexion, prominent eyes, small scar on on" check, placid expression of face, and proportionate fignre. It is supposed that he will endeavour to leavo the country for Spain or America. It is earnestly requested that immediate enquiries be made to trace and arrest him. Information to Supt. F., which were stolen from th8 lands of Ballynahalisk, parish of St. Nathlash, barony of Fermov, on the night of the 27th or morning of the 2 « th June, 1890:— 1. Two- year- old heifer, rod colour, white spot on forehead and belly, fignre 2 on right horn. 2. Two- year- old bullock, grayish colour, figure 4 on right horn. 3.
