Particulars concerning persont whote apprehension it sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICB GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 5. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, ij sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all eases where a reward it offered the name and address of tome person responsible for the payment mutt be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offencet, and engravingt of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 16t. per portrait, and of Is, 6d. per photograph or iketch 01 a ttclen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. t. Every announcement, if for the apprehention of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not lest rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of tuch person be required to it inserted, and no warrant it in force against him, the requisition mutt be signed by the chief officer of police, or hit immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, at the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning ttolen property mutt be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. TIONS. 8. Announcements of all persont to be apprehended or of ttolen property bear a number, and are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehention or recovery, at once transmit to the Edittt notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will K, wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so at to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They mutt be clearly written on one tide oj the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payment! mutt be in advance, either at the office, Great Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond f Co.," Pott Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. The resignation is announced of Mr. John Norris, Chief Constable of Coventry, a veteran and able officer, whose came is a household word amongst policemen everywhere. Mr. Norris has been in bad health since June of last year, the consequence of which, and his advanced age, has induced him to sever a connection that has existed for half a century. Mr. Norris joined the Service in 1842 at Bath, and was appointed Chief Constable of Coventry in 1862. While at Coventry his reputation has been enhanced by his constant efforts to further the good of the Ser- vice in every possible way. He has worked assidu- ously, though unfortunately without avail up to the present time, to secure such an amendment of the Police Superannuation Act as should destroy its optional character, and make it a legislative enactment that, on retirement at the end of the proper term of service an officer shall receive a pension at the rate of two- thirds of his pay. His efforts to establish a Police Orphanage will be well within the memory of those associated with him in that important movement, and his services in the way of securing " rational dress " for the Police, and of promoting amongst them mutual assurance on the highest and broadest principles, are well known. The offices he has held have included those of Trea- surer of the Police Superannuation Committee, Vice- President of the Police Mutual Assurance Association, Chairman of the Borough Police Association, etc. Mr. Norris's work on behalf of the Service has been energetic and never- ending; his watchfulness in its interest has been keen and vigilant; there has scarcely ever been an important departure taken in police work in which his advice has not been first sought. His perfect knowledge and ripe experience made his counsel of the utmost value, and he was never chary about giving it when the welfare of the Service was affected. Would it not be graceful if the Police were now to pay him some compliment, in the shape of a testi- monial to be subscribed by the members of the different forces in the United Kingdom 1 Subscriptions to be forwarded to Charles Stretten, Esq., C.
