CT^" All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted tinder cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description cat> l> n inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as ure of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons - whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of - , um nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession wLon making the arrest. %* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to bo good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, « fcc., and of any circumstauces rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. Description of SAMUEL BRITTEN, native of London, JOHN STEVEN, native of Birmingham, and ALFRED WELSH, native of Newcastle, Eng- land, who stand charged with having, on the 29th November, 1889, in the barony of Lower Belfast, parish of St. Nicholas, unlawfully stolen, taken, and carried away a sum of money in coin, amounting to about £ 20, the property of Captain T. G. Perie, Gordon Highlanders:— 1. M ole on back of left arm, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet inches higb, about 23 years of age, brown hair; wore uniform of Gordon Highlanders; is a waiter. Went to Belfast; description sent there. 2. Two blue dots on face of left thumb figure of a female on one arm, hazel eyes, sharp nose, fresh com- plexion, long face, slight make, 5 feet inohes high, about 20 years of age, dark brown hair; wore uniform of Gordon Highlanders; is a tailor. Went to Belfast; description sent there. 3. Scar 1$ inch long under scapula, stoppage in speech, brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6£ inches high, about 24 years of age, light hair; wore uniform ot Gordon Highlanders; is a gunsmith. ( 99909 71670.) ^ V Description of THOMAS M'CURLEY, native of Ligoniel, who stands charged with having, on the 16th day of November, 1889, in the batony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, assaulted Constable Francis O'Brien while in the execution of his duty: Brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round full face/ very stout make, 5 feet 9 inohes high, about 25 years of age, sandy hair; wore a black cap, dark eoat, trowsers, and vest. Is a labourer, and served in the army. Lisburn, 19th November, 1889. ( 99674 71243.) Description of ROBERT MITCHELL, native of Strabane, county Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 8th November, 1889, in the barony of Upper Toome, parish of Drummaul, stolen from his employer, Edmond M'Manus, a glazier's diamond, value 15 « . Tattooed on back of both hands, American flag with stars and stripes on left, and a fern leaf on right, gray eyes, slightly cocked nose, fair complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches higb, about 22 years of age fair hair; ware a black peaked cap, gray coat and trowsers, and black vest, low shoes, nearly new; is a painter. Has a good address, and speaks with a slight American accent. A Warrant has been issued for his arrest. Antrim, 14th November, 1889. ( 99583 c.— 71055.) Description ot JOHN GRANT, native of Lisburn, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd day of October, 1889, in the barony of Upper Massareene, parish of Blaris, seriously assaulted Robert Hull, of Lisbum, thereby fracturing his skull and placing his life in danger;— Large mark of an evil on right side of neck and jaw, with pieces of flesh, now healed, projecting, blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, tbin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 28 years of age, sandy hair; wore a dark coat, white moleskin trowsers, and dark vest; is a labourer. Lisburn, 26th October, 1889. ( 99259 c.— 70461.) Armagh* Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 21st October, 1889, in the barony of Upper Orier, parish of Killeevy, stolen a gold watch and chain, and gold brooch and ear- rings, value £ 20, from the dwell- ing- house of James Carragher ; watch and chain have been recovered:— Wants some upper front teeth, mark or small hole behind one of the jaws, one of the fingers contracted or joint off; dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 32 years of age, dark brown hair, recently clipped: wore an old small hat much indented, old dark long- skirted coat, brownish trowsers, and bad shoes ; is a ballad singer, and plays three balled trick ; very shabby appearance. He has a northern accent, and knows all about Cavan and Sligo ; sings at fairs and markets ; may be accompanied by others. Infor- mation sworn. Newry, 25th October, 1889. ( 99275 70462.) Cavan. Description of PATRICK MONAGHAN, ( believed fictitious), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 7th November, 1889, in the barony of Tullygarvey, parish of Kildrumsheridan, stolen a bullock, the property of Thomas Hamilton, and sold it on same day to Geo. M'Cabe: Very slight make, black moustache, hooked nose, thin features, rather good looking, smart appearance, carried a stick, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 19 years of age; wore a soft black felt hat, dark clothes, red and black woollen gloves, purple muffler round his neck. Bailieboro', 12th Nov.. 1889. ( 99556c.— 70999.) Description of MICHAEL GALLIGAN, native of Cullis, county Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 9th August, 1889, in the barony of Tullyhunco, parish of Drumlane, stolen a watch the property of Thomas M'Caffrey. The offence has not previously been inserted in the Hue- and- Cry :— Prominent teeth, has lost two teeth in upper jaw, hazel eyes, fair com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches fcigfc, about 18 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat, plaid trowsers and vest; is a farm servant. Information sworn and Warrant in hands of R. I. Constabulary at Killeshandra. Killeshandra, 13th August, 1889. ' 978770 — 67979). Cork. Description of PETER REGAN ( mother's sur- name Canty), native of Tullyglass, who stands charged with having, on the 28ti day of September, 1889, in the barony of Kinalmeaky, parish of Murragh, inde- cently assaulted Hannah O'Brien, at Farnthomas, and having been bailed to appear at Ballineen Petty Sessions on 14th instant, failed to do so :— No beard, very slight moustache, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft hat, dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer, Warrant issued for his arrest in hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary, Mountpleasant. Donegal, Description of JAMES COYLE, native of Claggan near Carrigart, who stands charged with having, on the 25th day of August, 1889, in the barony of Innishowen, parish of Desertegney, stolen one five- pound note and one sovereign from his master, Denis M'Laughlin:— Blue eyes, long nose, fresh complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 17 years of age, light brown hair; wore a tweed coat, moleskin trowsers and vest; is a labourer. ELIZA SHEPPHERD ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th Sept., 1889. ( 98417 c.— 68958.) Kildare. Description of MICHAEL M'GUIRE, native of Portarlington, who stands charged with having, on the 25th November, 1889, in the barony of West Offally, parish of Monasterevan, stolen 23 calves from Jeremiah Sexton, of Cork Recent cut on nose, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft light coloured tennis hat, brown sack coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest. Is a cattle drover. The calves have been found. Kildare, 28th November, 1889. ( 99840 c 71538.) Kilkenny. Description of JAMES WHELAN, native of Bagenalstown, who stands charged with having, on the tSth September, 1889, in the barony of Fassidinnen, parish of Castlecomer, on being arrested on a charge of drunkenness, assaulted Constable Wm. J. Campbell, by kicking him and obstructing him in the execution of his duty, and subsequently making his escape from the THE POLICE GAZETTE, OK HUE- AND- CRY. DECEMBER 17, 1889. barrack yard:— Scar on right cheek under the eye and extending to side of nose, has fresh cut marks on right heel, believed to have scurvy on arms and legs, keeps hi? hands in his pockets when walking, blue eyes, rather long thin nose, pale complexion long thin face, slight active, make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a brown tweed cap, black sack coat, black corduroy trowser>, and dark vest, old militia boots; is a labourer. Description of THOMAS WALSH, native of Ferns, county Wexford, who stands charged with having, on the night of 7th or morning of 8th No- vember, 1889, in the barony of Geashill, parish of Geaahill, stolen £ 4 15s. 6d. from the dwelling- house of John Kelly, of Killinmore Long no3e, re I com- plexioo, long face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 45 years of age, fair hair, sandy whiskers cut short and turning gray ; wore a tweed coat, corduroy trowsars, and tweed vest; is an itinerant labourer: Informations sworn and Warrant issued. Description of JOHN CONNOR, native of Athlone, who stands charged wit h having, on the 26th day of O. tober, 1889, in the barony of Ballycowan, parish of Kilbride, stolen £ 3 from the house of John Molloy, of Ballydaly, where he was enployed as a servant:— Slight halt, scarcely perceptible, in left foot; gray eyes, short thin nose, reddish complexion, small face, boyish looking, sto it make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 24 years of age, brown hair, face all shaved except slight brown moustache; wore a two- peakel cap, brown tweed jacket, tweed trowsars with whitish stripes, and light tweed vest ; is employed as a ploughman and labourer by mull farmers, and is in Roscommon Militia Iaformation sworn and Warrant in h inds of District Inspector at Tullamore. ND native of Brackna, who stands charged with having, on or about 7th October, 1889, at Brackna, sin the barony of Coolestown, parish ot Clonsast, stolen a heifer, the property of Edward Campion, of Brackna:— Walks with a stoop; gray eye-, thick nose, pale sallow com plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 60 years of age; wore a hard rouul hat, frieze coat, corduroy trowsers. Description of JOHN WAIDE, native of Cappa- more, who stands charged with having, on the 1st September, 188Q, in the bwrony of Owneybeg, parish of Tuogh, seriously assaulted John Burke, of Killuragh, thereby fracturing his skull and placing his life in danger:— Gray eyes, short thick nose, sallow com- plexion, round face, stout ' make, 5 teet 4 or 5 inches nigh, about 24 years of age ; wore a black hard bat, brown tweed coat, corduroy irowsers, and brown tweed Vest, is n labourer. Description of THOMAS M'MANUS ( mother's surname Griffin), native of Drumlish, who stands charged with having, on the 15th day of October, 1889, in the barony of Longford, parish of Killoe, stolen a cow, the property of James M'Nally, of Drumlish ( cow value for £ 11) :— Gray eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 42 years of age, fair hair; wore a round black hat, whit3 frieze coat, brown tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer and cattle dealer. ( 99297 c.— 70500.) description of JAMES CULLUM, native of Larkfield, who stands charged with having, on the 28th day of October, 1889, in the barony of Granard, parish of Columbkill, stabbed Francis Brady, of Lark- field, in the back, from tho effects of which his life is now in danger:— Dark heavy eyebrows, slovenly gait, leans forward when walking, down- looking appearance, small dark moustache, gray eyes, long thin nose, dark sallow complexion, long thin faje, medium make, 6 feet 1 inch high, about 28 or 30 years of age, dark hair slightly tinged with gray; wore a hard hat, brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest, Wellington boots; is a farmer's son. Description ol FREDERICK MULLIGAN, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 17th duy of November, 1889, at Drogheda, in the barony of Upper Duleek, parish of St. Mary's, by falsj pretences obtained a number of carpenter's tools, viz.:— 4 planes, 5 saws, 9 chisels. 3 gimlets, 2 hammers, and I hatchet, all marked " S. Martin," value £ 3 10*., the property of one Stephen Martin:— Tattooed on right arm, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 32 years of age, * rown hair, fair moustache; wore a round hard hat, dark coat, while plaid trowsers, and tweed vest. 1- a tramping carpenter. Description of TERENCE M'CONNELL, native of Rathdrina, who stands charged with having, on tl e 25th day of November, 1889, in the barony ot Lower Duleek, parish of Knockcommon, stolen a cow, the property of Isabella Carpenter, which he is supposed to have sold at Collon fair, county Louth, on same date:— Slovenly gait, dark eyes, slightly cocked nose, dark sallow complexion, oval face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 23 years of age, black hair ; wore a gray dust- coat, gray tweed trowsers, and tweed vest. Is a stable boy. Navan, 1st December. 1889. ( 99871 c— 71607.) Description of JOHN KELLY ( name supposed to be fictitious), native ol Ballymote, county Sligo, who stands charged with having, on the 15th November, 1889, in the barony of Lower Moyfeuragh, parish of Rathcore, stolen about £ 1 ( one pound) in copper, the property of James Carolan, from a lodging- house at Enfield :— Pretends to be dumb, but speaks with slight stoppage; slouching gait, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 33 years of age, dark hair, dark beard and whiskers, whieh it is likely he will shave off; wore a hard black hat, black torn coat, moleskin trowsers, and new high- low boots. Roscommon. JOHN LENNON ( assault), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th September, 1889. ( 98463 c— 69036.) Sligo. Description of ANDREW BREHENY ( mother's surname Kelly), native of Ballymote, who stands charged with having, on the 18th September, 1889, in the barony of Corran, parish of Emlaghfad, stolen nine heifers, five bullocks, and seven sheep, value for about £ 200, the property of his father, Michael Breheny, which he sold at Collooney Fair on 18th September, 1889, and decamped with the money :— Smart active make, full gr* y eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 27 years of age; wore a soft hat, dark blue coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son; served in Marines. Warrant for his arrest in hands of the Police at Ballymote. Ballymote, 26th Sept., 1889. ( 98701 c— 69427.) Tipperary. Description of JOHN HOPKINS, native of Thurles, who stands charged with having, on the 10th February, 1888, in the town of Cappoquin, got married to a woman named Judith Cormack, his lawful wife being alive at the time:— Blind of an eye, one foot flat result of an injury, was in the army, dark complexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 incbes high, about 50 years of age, dark hair, reddish whiskers; is a tramp and gathers rags in south and west of Ireland. Is accompanied by Judith Cormack, who is also blind of an eye and of small stature. If observed, informa- tion should be at once sent to the D. I. at Nenagh. Nenagh, 23rd November, 1889. ( 99752 c.— 71382.) Description of MICHAEL MOLONEY, alias MICHAEL M'MAHON, alias JOHN BYRNE, alias MICHAEL WHITE, native of Feakle, county Clare, who stands charged on suspicion, with having, on the night of 20th October, 1889, at Gurtlassobrien, in the barony of owney and Arra, parish of Temple- chally, stolen three head of cattle, the property of Hugh Garahee :— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 46 years of age, brown hair, turning gray ; is a stonecutter, but latterly acts as a cattle drover, and attends fains. This man has been several times convicted for cattle stealing, and is a returned convict on ticket- of- leave, who has failed to report himself. Newport, 31st Oct., 1889 ( 99277 c.— 70464.) Description of EDMOND CROWE, native of Cutteen, who stands charged with having, on the night of 22nd or morning of 23rd October, 18b9, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Sologheadbeg, stolen four calves ( since recovered), the property of Thomas Crowe, which he sold in fair of Newport, county Tipperary, on 23rd October, 1889:— Smart active appearance, respectable looking, dresses very tastily, gray eyes, straight nose, fresh complexion, oval face, smart make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a light- coloured overcoat, light tweed trowsers, and vest; has the appearance of a jockey; is a farmer's son. Dundrum, 29th October, 1889. ( 99273 70522.) Description of JOHN COFFEY, native of Gurt- mullen, who stands charged with having, on the 5th July, 1889, at Gurtmullen, in the barony of Ikerrin, parish of Roscrea, indecently assaulted one Maggie Coonars, and having been admitted to bail failed to appear at Nenagh Quarter Sessions, on 2nd October, 1889:— Gray eyes, regular nose, swarthy complexion, thin face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age; wore a dark tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. A Warrant has been issued for his arrest. Roscrea, 13th October, 1889 ( 97338 c— 69941.) Description of PATRICK GLEESON, native of Mohir, who stands charged with having, on the 29th June, 1889, in the barony of Kilmanagh Upper, parish of Upperchurch, seriously assaulted James Corbitt and Michael Quinn, from the effects of which Corbitt's life is now in danger. He was bailed for trial and has absconded:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, soft round face, stoat make, 6 feet high, about 22 years of age, brown hair; wore a large soft hat, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. This man may endeavour to emigrate. Warrant for his arrest in hands of police at Shehsvrie. Thurles, 20th Sept, 1889. ( 97414 c.— 69219.) Waterford. Description of LAURENCE O'DONNELL, native of Lyre East, who stands charged with having, on the 27th September, 1889, in the barony of Coshmore and Coshbride. parish of Lismore, grievously assaulted one James O'Donnell:— Gray eyes, cocked nose, sandy complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7^ inches high, about 23 years of age, light brown hair, small sandy moustache, no beard or whiskers; wore a tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Warrant in hands of Royal Irish Constabulary, Cappoquin. 4 Cappoquin, 30th Sept, 1889. ( 98764 c.— 69528.) PATRICK MORRISSY ( cattle stealing), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 27th Augast, 1889. ( 98051 68296.) Wicklow. Description of TIMOTHY KELLY, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 24th or morning of 25th September, 1889, in the barony of Newcastle, parish of Kilcoole, stolen a gray tweed coat and elastic side boots from John Maloney :— Old sores on upper lip and right cheek bone which he received in u fight lately, dark sunken watery eyes, regular nose, saliow complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 ieet 6 inches high, about 40 years ot age, brown hair; wore a light tweed coat, dark trowsers; is a tramp. ( 98744 c— 69497.1 DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE 0 Division Particulars relative to convict JOHN SULLIVAN, A 841, convicted at Cork Spring Assizes, on 20; h March, 1884, for wounding and grievous bodily harm, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age on conviction, married, is a labourer; born at Cork ; resided before conviction at Fox's- street, Bandon, where his friends reside; brown hair, getting bald, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, large nose, large mouth, dark complexion, oval visage, stout make; 6 feet ^ inch high ; crucifix on left arm; eagle, flag, anchor, and tomb of Napoleon on right arm; English coat of arms, lion, unicorn, and crown on breast. This man was released from Monntjoy Prison on licence, 27th September, 1889. He notified his arrival in Cork to the R. I. C. on the 3rd ult., and gave his address as Barrack- street, but he has not since reported himself, and his present whereabouts is unknown. He formerly lived at 7, Bennett - treet, Crumpsall; he was also at one time in busKess at Todmerden, Yorkshire, as a sizer and warper; a native of Preston ; about 48 yews of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high, very bushy light sandy hair, parted in the middle, had light coloured whiskers, moustache, and eyebrows, light coloured eyes, rather deep sunk; a lowish forehead. This man's defalca- tions are very heavy, a charge of forgery will also be preferred against him by the Manchester City Police. He will endeavour to leave the country. Stolon at 3 p. m., on Tuesday, the 12th November, 1889, from'a dwelling- house in this burgh, by means Of false keys, the following articles, viz.:— A lady's gold ring, with initials " I. S. W." on plate; a lady's gold turquoise ring, set with a cluster and diamond in oentre; a lady's halt'- hoop gold ring, set with several turquoise stones; a lady's gold ring with plate for initials, two pearla, and heart formed of diamonds, initials " LL. D. to H. H. H." inside of ring; a lady's gold ring, with one pearl and 5 or 6 rubies; a lady's gold ring, with red stones; a pair of small round amber earrings; a jubilee brooch, made of one shilling and two sixpences; a jubilee brooch, made of a two- shilling piece; a silver brooch, shape of a fiddle, with pebbles; a silver jubilee brooch, oval shape, with dates 1837 and 1887; two gold brooches, about ]£ inch long and half- an- iich broad, one with diamond in centre, and initials " I. S.," the other a spray of forget- me- not flowers and diamond in centre; a small round gold brooch, carved front, size of half- a- sovereign; a long gold chain, secret link ; a silver bracelet, raised flowers on back, name " I. Sutherland " on it; a gold sleeve stud, round shape and flowered front; a £ 1 note and £ 4 15 s. in gold and silver money. Tfce house from which the above articles were stolen is occupied by the barmaids at Stirling Railway Station, who are seldom in it during the day. On one of the girls going to said house about 3 15 p. m. on the above date she found the door open, and on entering, the person hereafter described came out of a bedroom, and on being questioned as to how he came to be in the house, stated that be was waiting on one of the girls, who had gone out of a message. He then bolted out at the door, and it has since been ascertained tbat a man answering his description took out a ticket at the Railway Station at 3 25 p. m. lor Edinburgh, and it is suspected that he left Stirling by the train leaving at this hour. A chisel or screw driver about half an inch broad has been used in forcing drawers and boxes. Similar thefts were committed in this burgh on the 2nd and 11th October last, and it is strongly suspected that said thefts have been committed by the same person. Description— A man about 23 or 24 years of age, about 5 ieet 3 or 4 inches in height, stout build, fresh complexion, fair hair, no whiskers, may have very small fair moustache, full eyes. Dressed in a light- coloured short overcoat, brown tweed trowsers and vest, brown felt hat ( the band of whish is of a lighter colour than the felt), linen collar and cuffs well shown. Wore a watch chain, and carried a light- coloured walking- stick. Spoke with Scotch accent. Can be identified.
