Description of MATHEW M'DONNELL ( mother's surname Rudden), native of Drumavrack, who stands charged with having, on the 29th of June, 1889, in the barony of Tullygarvey, parish of Annagh, in- decently assaulted Catherine Hegarty :— Small fair moustache, blue or gray eye's, regular nose, fair com- plexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair; wore a tweed cap, black ( jacket- make) coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; is a farm servant. A warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Redhills Constabulary. Cavan, 7th July, 1889. - ( 97089 c.— 66567.) Cork. Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the night of 9th or morning of 10th June, 1889, in tho barony of Cendons and Clangibbon, parish of Templemolaga, stolen three bullock calves, the property of John Hennessy, from off his lands at Kilclooney:— 1. Dark complexion, thin face, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 50 years of age; wore old black clothe3; looked like a low butcher or jobber. 2. Dark complexion, thin face, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 24 years of age ; wore a white straw hat with black band, old dark sack coat, old dark trowsers, dark vest; looked like a low butcher or jobber. These men were seen in, locality on 9th June about 6 A. M. They had a small t> ay horse with red painted cart and rail. About 11 A. M. on 10th June they were met near town of Midleton having three calves in cart answering description of stolen ones. Description of MICHAEL CONNOR, native of Berrings, who stands charged. with having, on the 10th June, 1889, in che barooy of East Muskerry, parish of Ahabullogue, tmk ivfully stolen £ 20, composed of £ 10 in notes, £ 4 in silver, £ A in silver, and a cheque for £ 2, the property of his master, John O'Keeffe, Miller, living at Brinny:~ Awkward gait, brown eyas, cocked nose, reddish complexion, short rouTjd face, stout make, 5 feet J inches high, about 28 years of age, dark curly hair, and dark Me- whiskers; he wore dirty brown tweed clothes, which ' e is supposed to have got rid of, and got a new suit S and new soft hat; is a driver of a dray. Particulars M'GRATH, relative to Convict MICHAEL A 646, convicted at Cork Winter Assizes, on the 15th December, 1882, for burglary, and sentenced to 8 years' penal servitude; 43 years ef age ou conviction, single, is a labourer, born at Kilmedan, county Waterford :— Black and gray hair, hazel eyes, black eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, salldw complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, large- scss m left side. ^ his man was released ficm Mountjoy Prison on licence, 12th March, 1889, and went to reside at 27, Barrack- street, Dublin. He recently left his re^'. ence, 45, Benburb- street, without notifying change to Metro- politan Police and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the - event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Tic., cap. 112. ( 249 H. e.) r. • w Description of MICHAEL DENNEHY ( mother's surname, Brien), native of Carrigdownane, who stands charged with having, cn the- night of the 28th April, 1889, in the barony of Fermoy, parish of Bridgetown, criminally assaulted one Margaret Roche, and attempted to commit a rape on her, at Kilquane, in said county:— Nose much deformed as if broken, blue or gray eyes, thin nose, sandy complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, sandy hair; wore an old black jerry hat, old dark patched coat, dark tweed trowsers, dark vest; is a farm labourer. This man's father is in Fermoy Union Workhouse. He generally works with farmers as an ordinary labourer. The Sergeant at Castletown- roche holds a warrant for his arrest. • » . • m - ( j.. 10 > W A.) Despription of WILLIAM ROCHE ( mother's surname Donoghoe), native of Gurtarahilly, who . stands charged with having, on the 7th day of J^ arcli, 1889, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Ballyvourney, assaulted Edmund Sweeney, of Gurtarahilly, so as to endanger his life:— Slightly lame in rigft, leg, it having been broken above ankle, brown eyes, ( oeked nose, fresh complexion, full and, fat face, stoat make, 5 feet 7 inches high, abaut 22 years of age, black hair ; wore a black hat, dark brown tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's eon. Description of TWO MEN, namee and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 28th April, 1889, in the barony of Dnhallow, parish of Clonfert, entered the house of William Larkin, of Milleenduff- Rockchapel, and fired 2 shots therein, one of which took effect in the right thigh of his wife and wounded her seriously :— 1. Nose turned down a little at top, has impediment in his speech ; small nose, thin face, slender make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 24 years of age, no beard or whiskers, very slight fair moustache; wore a gray two- peaked cap, blue sack coat, dark trowsers and vest. 2. Gray eyes, dark complexion, pale face, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 20 years of age, no beard, whiskers, or moustache; wore a low soft hat with broad leaf. Kanturk, 1st May, 1889. ( 95818 c— 64201.) Description of THOMAS CONNORS, native of Gurtroo ( mother's surname Daly), who stands charged with having, on the night of the 14th April, 1889, in the barony of Imokilly, parish of Clonpriest, attacked a dwellinghouse, and threatened to murder:— No beard or whiskers, gray eyes, regular nose, yellow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore a two- peaked cap, dark tweed coat, trowsers, aud vest j is a labourer. Description of THOMAS FAHERTY, native of , Sheenboulard, who stands charged with hiving, on tho 4tl\ lay of June, 1889, in tlie barony of Ballinahinch, parish of Ballinakill, counselled, aided, and abetted one Martin Faherty, his nephew, of Letterfrack, to commit an indecent' assault on one Mary Nelly, of Lettertrack';— Full brown beard tinged with gray, bald on top of head, gray eyes, long thin nose, fiesh complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 40 years of age, broWn hair; wore ' a hard brown hat, gray tweed fnock coat, gray trowsers, and tweed vest. Is caretaker of Shamboulard House, dismissod policeman from Dublin Metropolitan Police. Sergeant M'Hale, Cleggan, holds Warrant tor his arrest. Clifden, 27th Jume, 1889. ( 96714 c.— 66187). Description of JOHN MITCHELL ( mother's sur- name Donelan), native of Cloonlara South, who stands charged " with having, on the 2nd of May, 1889, at Glenamaddy, in tho barony of Ballymoe, parish of Beyounagh, seriously assaulted Michael M'Guire, of Ballyhard:— Slight hump on back, short neck, wears a small dark moustache; gray eyes, drooped nose, pale complexion, broad full face, very stout make, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 24 years of age, dark hair; wore a low hard black hat, gray frieze coat, corduroy trowsers; is a labourer; son to a small farmer ; may probably endeavour to go to England as a harvestman. Description of PATRICK MOYNIHAN, mother's surname M'Carthy, native of Knockdoora, who stands charged with having, on the V6th May, 1888, in the barony of Magunihy, parish of Kilcummin, been one of a party who murdered Patrick M'Carthy, of Meentogues: — Large black glaring watery oy;: s, cocked nose, fresh complexionthin faco, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 21 yews of age, dark hair; wore a round hard hat, dark tweed coat. trowsers, and vc t; is a farmer's son, limerick. Description of THOMAS H. NOLAN, alias THOMAS PAUL CULLEN, alias Mr. HARRING- TON, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on sundry dates in July, 1869, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Michael's, obtained money and goods by means of forged cheques, and is now on remand in Limerick Male Prison, and may have com- mitted similar offence* elsewhere:— Brown eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, round face, shaved, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair; wore a blt^ c serge dress* coat; is a professional swindler, so Limerick, 11th July, 66810.) Description of JOSEPH HAYES native of county Limerick, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of May, in the barony of Coshma, parish of Croom, being an articled apprentice to James Feely, tailor, absconded and stolen his indentures :— Hollow back, brown eyes, long nose, sallow complexion, long thin face, medium male, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 19 years ot age, dark hair; wore a brown tweed coat and trowsers, light vest. Description of DAVID BROWN, JUNIOR, native of Tullanee, who stands charged with having, on th; 6th day of March, 1889, in the Half- barony of Tirkeeran, parish of Faughanvale, committed a rape on Matilda M'Ginnis, a girl of about 13 years of age:— Shuffling gait, wants first joint of middle finger of right hand, gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, fair hair; wore an old navy blue coat, navy blue trowsers and vest; is a cattle drover. Description of JAMES HESTER, native of Mayo, it is believed, who stands charged with having, on the 16th Jnly, 1889, at Edgeworthstown, in the barony of Ardugh, parish of Mostrim, stolen the sum of £ 8, belonging to John Kearney, of Kilsallagh:— Hoarse voice when speaking, sandy whiskers and moustache, shaves his chin, gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, fair face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 40 years of age, yellow hair; wore a black hat, tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description ol RALPH MANLY alias GORE, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the llth day February, 1889, in the barony of Dundalk, parish of Dundalk, committed forgery and fraud by presenting a forged cheque to a trader in Dundalk, and obtaining the sum of £ 28 10j. thereon:— Tattooed cross swords and O. M. C. or G. on left fore- arm, hazel eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9^ inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; wore regimentals, but will probably dress in plain clothes; is a private in Royal Scots Greys. He will endeavour to emigrate. Warrant issued. Dundalk, 13th Feb., 1889. ( 94486 c— 61604). Mayo. Description of a MAN, name, residence, and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on tbe night of the 19th June, 1889, at Ballintain, in the barony of Tyrawly, parish of Ballysakeery, stolen four head of cattle the property of Patrick and Michael Monnelly, which he subsequently sold at Ardnaree Fair on 20th June, 1889. The cattle have since been recovered :— Irregular prominent front teeth, stammers slightly in speaking if frightened or excited, brown eyes, regular ncse, fair complexion, round iace, medium make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 23 years of age, small light moustache, brown hair; wore a black Boft hat, dark cut- away coat, dark trowsers, brown vest, and brown tie. Ballina, 22nd June, 1889. ( 96813 c.— 65997.) Description of MARGARET REILLY, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on or about the 30th May, 1889, in the barony of Gallen, parish of Kilconduff, murdered her infant female child, about 1J years old, y drowning it in a brook near Swineford:— Space between upper front teeth, fi - h complexion, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair, very bnshy in front; wore a dark hat with red feather, woollen plaid dress rather dark, strong boot", is a tramp ; this woman left Balla by a harvest train on 2let inst, and took a ticket fbr Liverpool: swineford, 22nd June, lfe89. JOHN, native A Priestown Demesne, who stands charged with • .- j g, on the 16th May, 1889, in the barony Middlethird, parish of Drangan, assaulted and beaten Edmund Burke, of Capponagranagh, thereby causing his death, on 25th May, 1889:— Keeps his hands in trowsers pockets when walking, peculiar small brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 24 years ol age, dark hair, no beard or whiskers : wore a wide- awake hat, dark sack- made coat, light trowsers and vest; is^ a labonrer. Killinaule, 30th May, 1889. ( 96S28 c.—- 65188,) - A Description of JOHN NOLAN, native of Birdhill, Tipperary, who stands charged with having, 011 the 7th day of March, 1889, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, unlawfully and feloniously em- bezzled and converted to his own use the sum of £ 3 11*. 6d., the property of the Waterford and Limerick Railway Company, while acting in Hhis capacity of clerk in the Company's goods store, Tip- perary :— Ill- looking, knock- kneed, and high cheek- bones, hazel eyes, long nose, pale complexion, thin face slight make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard round hat, black serge coat, brown striped trowsers, black serge vest; wore a white necktie, and dark waterproof coat with cape: is a clerk in goods store. Warrant in hands of the District In- spector, at Tipperary. Tipperary, 2nd April, 1889. ( 95376 63265.) Tyrone. Description of ANDREW M'GIRR ( mother's surname M'Nally), native of Tullyglush, who stands charged with having, on the 16th June, 1889," at Balfymackelroy, in the barony of Clogher, parish of Erriglekeerogue, violently assaulted one Alice M'Veigh, and violently and against her will attempted to have carnal knowledge of the said Alice M'Veigh. This man was bound by recognizance to appear at Ballygawley Petty Sessions on the 16th July, 1889, but failed to do so:— Full mouth, no whiskers or moustache, gray or blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, thin freckled face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 19 years of age, sandy or red hair; wore a round hard hat, faded gray coat, trowsers, and vest; is a servant. Will likely endeavour to emigrate to America. Warrant for his arrest is in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Ballygawley, county Tyrone. Aughnacloy, 18th July, 1^ 9. ( 96786 c.— 670£ 6 ) Description of HUGH PARKER, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd of April, 1889, in the barony of Middle Dun- gannon, parish of Clonfeacle, stolen from the dwelling- house of James Belshaw one gray tweed vest, one pair of woollen drawers, and one pair of socks, value for twelve shillings, at Benburb, county Tyrone:— Smart active appearanoe ; shaves all the face, except moustache, which is dark- brown; blue eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 years of age, looks younger, dark- brown hair; wore a black one- peaked cap, blue tweed coat, gray tweed trowsers and vest; employed in a linen factory. This man is a tramp; will likely be found in linen or flax mills. Warrant for his arrest is in hands of Royal Irish Constabulary at Benburb. Aughnacloy, 26th April, 1889. ( 95790 64056.) i | tit Westmeath. t Description of JAMES COUGHLAN, native of Athlone, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd ^ April, 1889, in the barony of Brawney, parish of Saint Mary's, indecently assaulted Margaret Reilly, of Ballymahon, county Longford, with the intent to' commit a rape upon her;— Military bearing, smart active appearance, shaves all his face except a small fair moustache; blue eyes, regular nose, fresh com- plexion, round face, medium r ake, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, about 28 or 30 years of age, fair hair inclined to yellow ; were a round hard black hat, grey tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a journeyman carpenter. LYNAM, of the firm of Balman, Bros., New York, wanted here on Warrant, for obtaining on the 12th inst., by false pretences, the sum of £ 150, from an office in this city:— He is about 40 yearsurf ago. 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, stout make, bro| d shoulders, thick neck, dark hair, face shaved j^ cepfc monstache, which is slightly gray, sallow co> gentlemanly appearance; dressed in black dress coat, clerical pattern, and hard block jerry 1 it. Convict WILLIAM GRIFFIN, c 133, not arrested; Huo- and- Cry, 12th March, 1889. ( 233 H. C.) Convict PATRICK NOLAN, A 899, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 12th March, 1889. ( 230 H. C.) eNGlisH POLIcE Lancashire. MURDER. On Monday morning, the 22nd July, between H 55 and 9 5 o'clock, Walter Davies, an Assistant Pawnbroker, was murdered by being stabbed in several places at his master's shop at Atherton. Stolen from the shop about the same time:— A large- size massive silver English lever watch, capped, heavy cases, engraved rim, No. 4,1^ 8, new, crystal gloss. A silver English lever watch, capped, crystal glass, No. 6,295, now; maker, " A. Crook, Patricroft." A silver English lever watch, capped ( second hand); maker, " Rudd, Atherton aud Farnworth." Also several ladies' small silver watches, numbers and descriptions unknown. Description of Murderer s— Age 26 years, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, fresh looking ( tanned), slight dark moustache; dressed in a hard felt hat, dark coat and vest, blue cotton shirt, collar, " and supposed no tie. The silver English lever watch, capped ( second- hand), maker, " Rudd, Atherton and Farnworth," has been recovered. This watch is No. 54,410, and was pledged at Percy's, Deansgate, Manchester, about 1 p. m.. on the date of the murder, by a man who gave the namo of Fred Smith, 16, Clarence- street, Man- chester ( found to bo false), and is of the same description as the man who pledged the watch at Liverpool, on Monday evening. He was convicted nt Belfast Borough Sessions, 3rd June, 1884, of larceny after previous conviction, and sentonced to 5 years' penal servitude and 5 years' supervision. Wanted on Warrant, for stealing £ 30, the monies of the Nottingham Order of Oddfellows, in this borough, on the 18t| instant, JAMES MAGUIRE, 50 years of age, 5 feet 6^ inches high, fresh complexion, bro , vn eyes, brown hair and moustache, no whiskers, pearl on one eye, supposed left, bald on front of head, flat nose, bruise marks on cheeks, of pugilistic appearance, and is by trade a joiner; dressed when last seen in brown tweed coat and Vest, brown cord trowsers, lace- up boots, pot hat, and white muffler. It is supposed that he will seek employment as yard man to a builder or timber merchant. Information to Superintendent Donohoe, Detective Department, Salford, who holds a Warrant for his arrest. Wanted on Warrant, for stealing £ 20 from the Military Barracks in this borough, on the 5th instant, LACHI CORRI, alias CHARLES WILLIAM BROWN, 27| years of age, 5 feet 5f inches high, fresh complexibn, brown hair, blue eyes. He is a native of Dublin, and when last seen was dressed in regimentals, be being a Paymaster's Sergeant in the Cheshire Regiment. He is said to have gone to Ireland where he has friends in the persons of P. Brady, Ballyconnell, and L. Corri, Forester to Lord Erne, at Loch Erne, county Cavan. Description of WILLIAM KEARNEY, alias KARNEY, wanted on Warrant, charged with stealing £ 45; a dark blue sack overcoat, with velvet collar, single- breasted, broad check lining, cloth buttons, pockets on hips and ticket- pocket with flaps, outside left breast- pocket without flap; a dark blue cloth jacket and vest, and a pair of light blue drab trowsers, " C. Dyke" on buttons; and may have the maker's full name " C. Dyke, 5, Princess- street, London," on buttons; several stand- up collars, size 15; several pairs of socks, and a number of linen handkerchiefs; some cambric handkerchiefs with borders, some may be marked " H. Stewart,", and a pair of heavy nailed shooting boots. A labourer, 28 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh complexion, brown hair and moustache, no whiskers, gray eyes, proportionate build, and supposed to be a native of Walsall, and has travelled about the country with a boxing booth. The above was servant to Lieutenant Hopton Stewart, and stole the above- named articles from Whittington Barracks some time between the 6th and 8th instant. Supposed dressed in stolen property. The person whose name and description are given below is wanted here on a charge of fraud, and also of theft of £ 1 18s. lid., committed at Muchalls, in this county:— GEORGE KENNINGHAM, 23 years of age, native of Hull, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark hair, small dark moustache and side whiskers, and black eyes ; is a seaman; wore a navy blue jacket, with gold lace cn sleeves and collar, dark tweed trowsers, blue cap, with narrow band of gold lacri and anchor in front. Accused represei ted himself as an officer on board a ship which he had left at Dundee, that he was short of cash, & c., and thus obtained money and lodgings. Cn the 21st June he was intrusted to cash a Post Office Order for £ 1 13s. 11 d., which he did, and immediately absconded, taking train at Stone- haven for Montrose, thence booking to Dundee. Was lately convicted in Inverness, Elginshire, and Aber- deenshire for a series, of frauds committed there. Wanted here, charged with theft by housebreaking by means of false keys, committed at Pollokshields, in this county, on 16th July, 1889, WILLIAM MONTEITH, a convict on licence, says he is a joiner, native of Glasgow, 26 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, ordinary made, dark brown hair, sandy- coloured moustache, otherwise clean shaved, round face, large forehead, straight nose, hazel eyes, dark complexion, has a smart appearance, and speaks with Scotch accent. Is peek- pitted between eyebrows and on right side of forehead, has a black mole on left cheek and three* on back of neck, and a scar from operation below throat. Dressed, when last seen, in brownish felt hat, light tweed jacket suit, and light shoes. Accused was convicted of theft by housebreaking before the Circuit Court, Glasgow, on 26th December, 1883, and sentenced to six years' penal servitude. He was liberated on licence on 15th January, 1889. He is a companion of Robert Stirling, presently in custody on same charge. Both were discovered in a house at Pollokshields on the 16th instant. Stirling was apprehended, but Monteith escaped by lowering himself 30 feet with a rope from a window on the third flat.
