Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 24th January, 1889, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Ballymena, obtained money by false pretences and forgery:— Full ( white yellowish) eyes, straight nose, very swarthy complexion, full face, stout make, 6 feet 10 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair, tinged with gray ; wore a round hard hat, gray tweed Norfolk jacket, trowsers and vest, to match; has been in America; is a good talker; pretends he is a military man named Major Rhodes, and has served on the Staff in Egypt; is a swindler. Description of GEORGE CALWELL, native of Connor, county Antrim, who stands oharged with having, on the 3rd day of January, 1889, in the barony of Shankhill, parish of Shankhill, embezzled a sum of £ 12 9*. and divers other sums of money, the property of Robert M'Mullan:— Leans his head lightly to the right when walking, slightly stooped houlders, blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 34 years of age, fair hair j wore a brown dust coat, striped trowsers, black vest; is a commercial traveller. Carlow. f Description of JOHN FISHER, native of Germany, who stands charged with having, on the- 8th March, 1889, at Carlow, in the barony of Carlow, parish of Carlow, stolen a silver lever watch ( the watch has been recovered), the property of William Vass, of Carlow :— Has boils or sores on back of neck, flushed face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 4Q years" of age; wore a two- peaked cap of gray tweed, dark coiat, trowsers and vest; the face is shaved, except moustache, which is dark. Generally carries a re- volver. Fisher is a tramping German, who states he if an ^ pert at watchmaking; alsQ calls on clergymen , . Description of FRANCIS QUINN, ( mother's surname, Doogan), native of Smear, county Longford, who stands charged $ rith having, on the 25th January, 1889, in the barony of Tullyhunco, parish of Killa- shandra, dangerously assaulted Patrick Reilly, of Drumbaldry, county Longford, and who escaped from the Police Escort on the 5th February, 1889, at Cornea, county Cavan, while being conveyed to Petty Sessions;— Brown eyes, long nose, dark complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a round hat, check tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Killeshandra, 7th Feb., 1889.. ( 94247 c— 61429.) Cork. Description of a TINKER, WIFE, and DAUGHTER, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 7th March, 1889, in the barony of West Muskerry, parish of Inchigeela, stolen £ 14 10s. from the house of one John Ring, where they lodged the previous night:— 1. Slightly lame of left leg, cocked nose, dark complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark curly hair; wore an old brown overcoat, plaid trowsers; is a tinker. 2. Brown eyes, sallow complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 50 years of age, black hair; wore a navy blue dress, old hooded cloak ; is wife of above. 3. Rather cocked nose, fair complexion, ronnd face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; wore a brown dress and brown striped shawl; is daughter of above. Description of JAMES MEADE, native of Bally- longane, who Sfands charged with having, on the 23rd January, 1889, in the barony of Imokilly, parish of Cloyne, indecently assaulted a girl named Ellen Quirk, aged 10 years:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair com- plexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 17 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farm labourer. Description of ANTHONY M'CLAFFERTY ( mother's surname Coyle), native of Glenerragh, who stands . charged with having, on the 14th January, 1889; Glenerragh, in the barony of Kilmacrenan, parish of Meevagh, forcibly rescued a prisoner from lawful custody who was arrested for being drunk and disorderly:— Upper front teeth prominent, no whiskers, beard, or moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, pale sallow complexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark hair; wore a dark tweed cap, tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers tweed vest; is a labourer. Description of JOHN SLEVIN, native of Donegal Town, who stands charged with having, on the 9th December, 1888, in the barony of Tyrhugh, parish of Donegal, assaulted Constable William H. Carton, when in the execution of his duty, and escaped from custody:— Broad square shoulders, thick heavy black eyebrows, and moustache, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 30 years of age, black hair; wore a black cap, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a navvy, looks like a coal- porter. Description of JOHN MONAGHAN, native of Dromore, county Tyrone, who stands charged with having, on the 21st February, 1889, in the barony of Lurg, parish of Magheraculmoney, attempted to commit a rape on Anna Wamsby, a married woman, 55 years of age:— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, stoat make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 27 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers and vest; is a shoemaker. Has resided for the last two years near Ederney, county Fermanagh. Has been living a considerable time in England and Scotland ; to either country it is believed he has absconded. ( 94429 c— 61508.) tr Description of THOMAS DONOHOE ( mother's surname Connor), native of Callinafercy, who stands charged with having, on the 18th December, 1888, in the barony of Trughenackmy, parish of Killorglin, stolen six head of cattle, and sold them at fair o4# Blennerville, on 19th December, 1888:— Smart active" nit, Ex- Policeman, served about 4 years in county limerick, and was recently discharged, no whiskers, moustache very small, gray or blue eyes, aquiline nose, • allow complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 26 years of age, brown hair; wore a peaked cap, tweed sack coat, tweed trowsers and vest The cattle have since been recovered and restored to the owner. ANDREW WALSH, grievous assault, not arrested ; Hue- and- Cry, 6th November, 1888. ( 90661 c.— 55298.) Limerick. Description if PATRICK HYNES ( mother's surname Moroney), native of Limerick City, who stands charged with having, on the morning of the 22nd February, 1889, in the borough of Limerick, parish of St. Mary's, unlawfully and burglariously entered the dwelling house and store of Stephen Tubridy, of Athlunkard- street, in this city, and stolen therefrom the sum of about 15*.:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 32 years of age, brown hair; wore a round hard hat, brown tweed coat and vest, much worn, old navy blue trowsers, bad old highlow boots. Description of PATRICK DALY, native of Bally- currane, who stands charged with having, on the 11th February, 1889, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Emly, county Tipperary, unlawfully in his posses- sion three bullocks, the property of R. C. Dobbs, which were stolen from his farms at Knockgreau and Knocknacrohy, county Limerick, on 4th September and 26th November, 1888 :— Ill- looking, speaks rather loud and partly through hh nose ; rather long nose, fair complexion, oval faco, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 35 yeari of age, brown hair; wore a bluish coat, gray tweel trowsers and vest; is a farmer. Description of WILLIAM FARRELL, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 10th instant, in the borough of Limerick, parish of st. Michael's, stolen from the house of Walter Baxendale a colt the property of tiis son, William H. S. Baxendale, which has since been found in a pawn office :•— Gray eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, broad face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 3S years of age, fair bair, cut short; word a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest all of which are faded ; is H pedlar and army reserve man. Description of DAVID BROWN, JUNIOR, native ol Tullanee, who stands charged with having, on the 6th day ot March, 1889, in the . Half- barony of Tirkeeran, parish of Faughanvale, committed a rape on Matilda M'Ginnis, a girl of about 13 years * of uge ;— Shuffling gait, wonts first joint of middle fiager of right hand, gray eyes, long nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet high, about 16 years of age, fair hair; wore ap old navy blue coat, navy blue trowsers and vest; is a cattle drover. Description of BERNARD ROGERS, native of Magheramore, arid MARY ANNE ROGERS ( mother's surname M'Daid), native of Magheramore, who stand charged with having, on the 4th March, 1889, in the barony of Coleraine, parish of Desertghill, assaulted John M'Donald, a special bailiff, in the execution of his duty, and did, by force and violence, rescue t\ fo cows and a terse he h| Ld seized under a Civil Bill Decree:— " , 1. Gray eyes, regular nose, dark complexion^ thin sharp face, slight make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of' age, dark hair; wore a black hat; is wife to No. 1. Description ol RALPH MANLY alias GORE, native of England, who stands charged with having, on the llth day February, 1889, in the barony of Dundalk, parish of Dundalk, committed forgery and fraud by presenting a forged cheque to a trader in Dundalk, and obtaining the sum of £ 28 10*. thereon:— Tattooed cross swords and O. M. C. or G. on left fore- arm, hazel eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9^ inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; wore regimentals, but will probably dress in plain clothes; is a private in Royal Scots Greys. Description of a MAN, name unknown, and native place supposed to be Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 17th January, 1889, in the barony of Lower Duleek, parish of Knockcommon, stolen four head of cattle, the property of Mary Sampson, of Rathdrina:— Shaves all the face and wore a fairish moustache, pale complexion, worn face, medium make, 6 feet 6J inches high, about 40 years of age. Description of EDWARD FOLEY, native of Ballyadams, who stands charred with having, on the 13th day of August, 1888, in the barony of Bally- adams, parish of Ballyadams, taken two ass- loads of hay from off the lands of Thomas Kemmis, Esquire, at Ballyadams, it being lands from which defendant had been evicted:— Brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 41 years of age, dark hair, very short, a wido- it; is Wk Description of ALEXANDER M'GREGOR ( mother's surname, Marrs), native of Coleraine, who stands charged with having, on the 4th day of February, 1889, in the barony of Coleraine, parish of Coleraine, unlawfully and indecently assaulted one Rebecca M'Fadden:— Walks with a swaggering gait, deep wrinkles in forehead, dark eyes, cocked nose, sallow complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet high, about 19 or 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft felt hat, which he left behind him, old gray tweed coat, dark tweed trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of JOHN MORRISON, native of Dundalk, who stands charged with having, on the 13th day of March, 1889, in the barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Dundalk, stolen It < horse; the" property of Michael Casley, since recovered:— Good looking, gray or blue eyes, long thin nose, fair complexion, long face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 22 years of age, light brown hair; wore a round hard hat, brown tweed coat, cord trowsers, tweed vest. This man is a horse trainer, and frequents horse fairs. Warrant issued. Dundalk, 17th March, 1889. Description of PATRICK DOCKERY, native of Ardkeena, who stands clfi^ ed with having, on various dates in December, 1888, and January, 1889, in the barony of Roscommon, parish of Ogulla, feloniously stolen certain letters and packages, the property of the Postmaster- General Has high, rather round, shoulders, gray eyes, long nose, pale complexion, long* face, medium make, 5 feet 11 inches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; generally wears a tweed cap ; wore a bright tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a Post Office messenger. • Roscommon, 5th Feb., 1889. Sligo. | Description of JOHN M'CORMICK ( mother's surname, Sweeny, native of Toorlestraun, who stands charged with having, on the 13th February, 1889 » in the barony of Llyney, parish of Achonry, at Tubbercurry, assaulted Thomas Gallagher, so as te endanger his life :— Left leg appears stiff, when walking, drags it slightly, got a black eye in fight, small mark still remains; gray eyes, regular nose, fair rather pale complexion, rather long face, medium make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 22 years of age, dark fair hair; wore a black hard hat, dark sack coat, dark tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. Tubbercurry, 27th Feb., 1889. ( 94792 c.— 62192.) Tipperary. Description of MICHAEL TOBIN, native of Shrough, near Tipperary, who stands charged with having, on the night of 17th or morning of 18th January, 1889, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Ballybrood, feloniously stolen and taken away six bullocks, the property of Mrs. S. E. Gabbett, from her farm at Mountminnett, county Limerick, and that he had the same unlawfully in his possession :— Dark eyebrows and moustache, dark beard and whiskers cut short, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a soft dark hat, dark clothes; is a cattle jobber, He deals in ponies and Kerry cattle, ' and frequents fairs in the west of Ireland. Dundrum, 1st March, 1889. ( 94064 62250.) Description of WILLIAM BYRNE, native of Duncummin, who stands charged with having, on the 12th of February, 1889, in the barony of Clanwilliam, parish of Tipperary, had three stolen calves in his possession, knowing them to be stolen. The calves are the property of Mrs. E. Gabbett, Mountminnitt, county Limerick:— Freckled face, small eyes, swarthy complexion, thin face, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 17 or 18 years of age, dark hair; wore a bright tweed coat, corduroy trowsers; is a labourer. Description of ROBERT M'KEOWN alias " CLOGGY," native of Cookstowu, who stands charged with having, on the 19th February, 1889, in the barony of Middle Dungannon, parish of Killyman, stolen from the person of Thomas Keenan, of Cullen- rammer, tbe sum of £ 7 13*.' 6d., viz.;— One five ponnd note, two one pound notes, numbers unknown, remainder in silver:— Wants some fingers on the right hand, which is always wrapped up in a stocking or dirty rag; walks with a stoop, down- looking appearance, dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long wrinkled face, medium make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 50 years of age, dark hair, turning gray; wore a round hard hat, sometimes a two- peaked cap, dark brown short coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a ragman and cattle drover. Description of JEREMIAH O'NEILL, native of Mallow, county Cork, who stands charged with having, on the 1st day of Maroh, 1889, in the barony of Coeh- more and Coshbride, parish of Lismore, stolen a mare, the property of Francis Taaffe, esq., out of his stable- Sard at Fortwilliam, county Waterford:— Very slight mp, and a very marked lisp when speaking; blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, clean- shaved face, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 25 or 26 years of age; is a groom. Warrant in hands of the police. 3rd March, 1889. ( 94813 c.— 62251.) Westmeath. JOHN HEFFERNAN, escaped lunatic, apprehended; Hue- and- Cry, 26th October, 1888. ( 9292— 57692.) not THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 2 2 , 1889. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE, G Division. Particulars relative to Convict JOHN M'KENNA, A 908, convicted at Dublin City Sessions, on 26th August, 1884, for falsa pretences and housebreaking, sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude; 25 years of age on conviction, single, is a painter, born in Drumcondra, resided before convictim at Dublin, where his friends reside :— Brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose, regular mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 7£ inches high; upper front teeth irregular. This man was released on licence, from Maryborough Prison, on 2nd August, 1888. He recently left his residence, 50, Lower Tyrone- street, Dublin, without reporting to the Metropolitan Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under seotion 5 of the Act 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 236 H. c.) Particulars relative to Convict HENRY IRE- LAND, A. 849, convicted at Ennis, county Clare, at Quarter Sessions, on 15th A^ ril, 1884, for subsequent felony, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude :— 27 years of age on conviction, single, is a nail maker ; his friends reside at Hacketstown, county Carlow:— Brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, small nose, medium mouth, pale complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence, 12th May, 1888. He reported to the R. I. C. at Ballinrobe, on the 9th ult., his intention of going to Castlebar, but he has not reported himself at the latter place, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 and 35 Vie., cap. 112. ( 234 H. c.) Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM GRIFFIN, c 133, convicted at Omagh Summer Assizes, on 12th July, 1887, for rape, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 32 years of age on con- viction, married, is a labourer, born at Fintona, county Tyrone, resided before conviction at Fintona, county Tyrone, where his Mends reside; black hair, brown eyes, dark eyebrows, large nose inclined to right, medium mouth, dark complexion, oval visage, pro- portionate make, 5 feet 10 inches high, several cat marks on head, large cut mark on palm of left hand, varicose veins in legs. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, on licence, 26th July, 1888, and went to Fintona. He failed to make his usual monthly report on the 1st instant, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under sec. 5 of 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112. ( 233 H. c.) Particulars relative to convict PATRICK NOLAN, A 899, convicted at Dublin Summer Assizes, on 7th August, 1884, for larceny, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— 49 years of age on conviction, single, is a labourer; born in Dublin, where he resided before conviction, and where his friends reside; brown hair, hazel eyes, light brown eyebrows, long and thick nose, large mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high; B. C. on right side, and D. on left, lost a front upper tooth, small brown mole on right shin. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison, 10th July, 1888, on licence, and went to reside at 118, Coombe. He has recently left his residence without reporting to the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Wanted on Warrant, charged with stealing three bollocks, value £ 35, from a field at Aston- on- Trent, in this county, at 7 30 a. m., 19th inst., the property of Mr. Joseph Turner. The bullocks have been recovered. By a farm labourer named Benjamin Hibbert; he is of the following description, viz.:— Twenty years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, fresh complexion, black hair, roundish face, no whiskers or moustache. Is rather round- shouldered, long neck, prominent throat ( Adam's apple), all his toes are contracted, and he walks heavily on his heels, leans forward and goes with a slouching gait, one leg slightly bowed. Was dressed, black hard felt hat, new blue- black overcoat, brown oheck mixture tweed suit, rather worn, light lace up boots. This man booked by the 3 20 p. m. train on 19th inst,| from Derby to Holyhead, and from Holyhead to Dublin, and on the 20th from Dublin to Queenstown. . It \ L thought he intends going to America, but he cannot be traced arriving at Queenstown, and it is now conjectured that he may have broken his journey en route to the latter place and commenced drinking. Please cause every possible enquiry to b « made, and if found, arrest, and wire to the Deputy Chief Constable, as below, when an officer will be sent for him and pay expenses. Information requested as to the wheftabouts of licence- holder THOMAS DELANY alias WILSON, released from Her Majesty's Convict Prison, Mountjoy, on the 13th instant, on licence to this city, for the purpose of emigrating to America, but who refused to proceed in the vessel, and his whereabouts are unknown since the 16th instant:— He is a shoemaker, native of Tig^ perary, 49 years of age, 5 feet inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, stout build, fresh complexion, oval features large cut scar on outside corner of right eye, cut on right wrist, wart near corner of right eye, some- what deaf, and lost an upper front tooth He was convicted at Birr, King's County, 8th October, 1879, of burglary, after previous conviction, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude. Wanted, for neglecting to notify leaving the district on or about the 1st instant, as required by the Preven- tion of Crimes Act, 1871 :— RICHARD DAVIES, a native of Hinstock, Shropshire, 51 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, dark hair, gray eyes, fresh com- plexion, mole on left cheek, and scar on left temple. Convicted at Liverpool Assizes, 8th May, 1884, of perjury ( committed at the Liverpool County Court), and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, but released on licence, 12th May last. Since that time he has carried on business as a furniture dealer, & c., at 208, Walton- road, in this city, and obtained quantities of goods from different firms in various parts of the country on credit, most of which were disposed of by auction soon after their receipt for what they would realize. He is likely to commence a similar business in some other town. Kindly cause careful inquiry to be made, and, if found, arrest and telegraph or com- municate any information you may be able to obtain as early as possible to the Chief Superintendent. Wanted, on Warrant, for embezzling between £ 200 and £ 300, the moneys of his employer, on the 18th instant:— JOHN MASON, 24 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, proportionate build, walks very erect, florid complexion, reddish nose, light yellow hair, and slight yellow moustache, fingers of left hand rather hard through constant playing of the violin. Dressed in black hard billycock hat, light brown dust coat, black coat and vest, and striped trowsers; carried a light- coloured strong leather cash- bag. He was em- ployed as a flour miller's traveller, and is a native of Market Drayton, Shropshire. Will no doubt attempt to get away to soma foreign country.
